OfficeJet Pro 8600 - no FAX

I have about 10 OfficeJet Pro 8600's deployed for a small/medium business.  I will post my questions separately, as I presume this will keep things organized.
Is there a way to install the Software without "FAX-OfficeJet Pro 8600" showing up in the printers list?  I do a lot of installs where we don't use fax.  Sometimes it will not delete from the printers list.  Keeps re-appearing.  It confuses and frustrates my users.  Thanks.

Hi jaygriz,
Thanks for choosing HP. You can find command-line driver install guide here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03351547&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang...
You can look at the "Customize the installation" section to carry out a custom install that will not install the fax driver. Example, you can use the following to install the software without fax driver on a 32 bit platform:
msiexec.exe /i D:\OJ8600_Basicx86_1315\OJ860x86.msi FAX=NO

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Fax answering incoming calls instead of answering machine

I have set the fax up on my new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus & the fax test report at the end passed everything & yes I have used the right cord for the phone (the one which came with the fax) however when someone calls, the fax picks up the call instead of the answering machine.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

If you only get fax once in a while, I would suggest turn off auto answer on the 8600, and when you hear the fax tone,  *#123 to tell the fax machine to pick up. That way, you can leave your answering machine the way it is, and not miss the faxes either.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 fax from computer will not fax more than one page without canceling job

HP Officejet Pro 8600 MFP running on Windows 7 64 bit. I purchased this printer almost a month ago. The install was simple and straight forward with no apparent problems but when trying to fax from computer the program seems to be only able to fax one page faxes. Any multiple page faxes will show a message "spooling" for 10 to 15 seconds then it will cancel the entire fax. I have tried this in both wired and wireless modes with the same results. I have sent 30 page plus faxes from the printer without any problems, it is only the fax from computer that seems to have memory issues. Any solutions out there?

Have you tried updating the firmware on the printer?
If not, here is a link to the most recent firmware:

Try that and let me know if it helps to resolve your issue.
    Best of luck,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (All-in-One) - Incoming Fax but mistakenly answer phone

I have landline phone service.  On this line, I have multiple phones, an answering machine, internet service via wireless Uverse setup, and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus as a fax.  It's also a printer/scanner - but that uses the wireless Uverse service.
The unit works as a phone, if I answer in fewer than 4 rings.  The answer machine picks up after 4 rings.  If a fax, the fax connects after 6 rings.  (Auto answer function is turned on.)  This works.
If I mistakenly answer a fax call with the phone that the HP 8600 is connected through, I can press: 1,2,3 and the fax will answer.  This works.
Problem: If I mistakenly answer a fax call from one of the other phones in the house (same phone line is ringing as before - but the phone is NOT the one through which the HP 8600 is connected) - 1,2,3, does NOT work.  If I rush to the HP 8600: pressing the "fax" button on the unit does not connect the fax call; nor does the HP 8600 give me the option to "Accept" the call, when the phone as been answered.
Does anyone know what buttons to push to get the fax to connect when the phone line is answered at a phone?  Either at the answered phone OR if I can get to the HP 8600 when I hear the fax tone - buttons I can push on the HP 8600 to get it to respond to the fax tones coming in on the line?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I see that you have some concerns when it comes to answering a fax call by accident from another phone.  Pressing the 1.2.3 on the fax is the proper way to remedy the issue when you answer from the fax, however this feature will not work from another phone.
I do realize that this is an inconvenience.  The only resolution would be to contact the sender of the fax and have them resend.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Paper jams when being faxed on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

When I go to send a fax, the paper goes in until about half way then the right side begins to wrinkle the paper and jams up.  I have tried several things to fix it but no luck.

Welcome to the forums HerkDia  ,
I have some suggestions for you to try for the problem you're having with your Officejet 8600 Plus jamming the paper when you fax.
    Check out these guides:
Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One
A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer Series
The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Does Not Pick Up Paper
Update the firmware: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
If the steps do not help any, I would lastly recommend calling HP to inquire about a replacement or trade in.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus e All in One fax to e-mail help

I purchased this unit yesterday for my office and I would like to have incoming faxes get sent to my computer as an e-mail.  I have gone through the digital fax setup process but I am not receiving e-mails notifying me of a fax.  Here are some specifics:
HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus e All-in-one printer
Dell Inspiron 570 with Windows 7 64 bit OS
System is on a network but not through a server. Does anyone know how to set up the OfficeJet so it will send me e-mail notification when a fax is received?  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
You may set Fax to Email feature from the printer EWS page:
On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( ), and then touch Setup . The setup menu displays.
Touch the Down Arrow ( ), and then touch Reports .
Touch Network Configuration Page . The product prints a network configuration page.
Locate the printer IP Address / URL to access the EWS:
Type the printer IP Address on you browser to access the EWS page
    Click the Fax tab
Click Fax to E-mail / Network Folder under the left column
Click Start Wizard and follow the steps to enable the feature.
Select Forward the Faxes to an e-mail address and proceed.
Follow the steps and provide your email account SMTP settings, similar to those used for Outlook
NOTE: You may contact your ISP to obtain the settings of your email server.
Click Save and Test to verify any of the settings is correct.
If you use a public email server (e.g. Gmail) and cannot find the needed settings, please let me know and i will try helping you to locate the server settings.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600-a: Can't Fax after converting to Verizon Home Phone

Can anyone provide me with a solution?
My HP Officejet Pro 8600 All In One worked just perfectly prior to converting our home telephone from AT&T/Frontier to Verizon Home phone service.
Now, I can't send nor receive a fax.  What I've read on the "net", it appears I will need to junk my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and buy a new unit compatible with Verizon Home phone service. It would be a shame to junk a unit that is not even 1 year old.
My hope is someone here has come across a solution!
    Thank you for your help.

Thank you all for your input.
Please understand I did not rush into making this Home Phone change to Verizon. I met with the same Verizon "agent" 3 separate days at 3 separate times.  Together we went over point-by-point all of my requirements.  We did cover faxing capabilities. Still I was sold a product that didn't fit my basic needs.
Hopefully, I am still within my window to cancel.
I need to be able to fax, so I have a lot of work to do to straighten this mess out.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I set the fax prefix no. on HP officejet pro 8600

    Greeting.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I want to send FAX thru this.
In my office, we need to put '0' to call outside.
However, there is no prefix setting menu on this device.
I have another model HP 1213mf which has Prefix No. menu on it, but I couldn't find this menu on 8600.
    Please Help me

    Hi Wony,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I understand you're looking for a way to add a prefix on the Officejet 8600 for faxing, and I will do my best to explain what I found on this subject.
As far as I can tell, and I did check with a few colleagues, there is no Prefix No. menu on the OJ 8600 like there was on your LaserJet 1213mf. With that being said, that doesn't mean that you can't use this printer to fax in your office. Anytime you need to dial the fax you would hit the 0 first follow by ##, as that adds a pause to the dialing to then dial the rest of the number. You can also add that to speed dial numbers so that for numbers that are used all the time you don't have to dial the number each and every time.
So just as an example, if you were to fax HP's faxback server (1-888-473-2963) you would dial "0##1-888-473-2963" to get the fax to send.
This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but I hope this is an acceptable workaround Please let me know!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not send or receive fax

I have connected the fax machine to the phone outlet, the fax machine dials to another fax machine, the connection sounds like it is being made (the receiving fax machine sends out a noise signalling that it has received a phone call) and then the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says that is is "Connecting" but no fax is sent. Nor can I receive a fax, even though the phone rings on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.   The error code I get is Error 388 which is that a communication error occurred during fax transmission.  However, this message occurs regardless of the fax number that I send to, and I had the recipient check that the receiving fax machine was working fine for transmittals from others.
Is it possible that the proble is that  I cannot send or receive faxes through a digital phone line?  That seems odd to me given that almost all phone lines in the modern era are digital.  How do I send and receive faxes with the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus if the only phone lines available are digital?  Also, 4 months ago, I used the same phone line for the same machine, and the fax function worked, but my phone provider assures me that the only phone lines that they have ever provided are digital.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the fax functionality on your Officejet 8600 plus. I have found a document that has several troubleshooting steps you can try to narrow down the issue. I know some of these steps you have already done, but there might be a few that you haven't, like there is a HP test fax service you can use to test functionality.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Viewing Fax History Content

This is isn't an issue--on my old officejet (7310 xi) I could go to the fax history and view a .pdf file of each of the faxes that I had sent.  This came in handy because I had a record of exactly what was sent to a particular party.
The fax function works great on the 8600 but I can't seem to find where I can view what I actually faxed to someone.  Is this function available on the 8600 pro printer?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
You can see the fax log via the HP software as following:
From the desktop, click the HP Officejet Pro 8600 icon.
    Double click on Fax Actions.
    Enter Manage Fax Settings.
From the left pane click Fax History.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 fax confirmation time and date fields has all zeros

My fax confirmation sheet for the time and date of my HP Officejet Pro 8600 prints all zeros.  How do I reset the time and date for this function?

    Hello rschne,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the date and time being all zeros on the fax confirmation.
Is the time and date set on the front display of the printer?
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8600 FAX phone cord

I am trying to setup the fax capability on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 all in one printer.
I have digital phone service and my phone cord runs from my internet modem.
I did the setup and the test failed due to 'Phone Cord COnnected to Correct Port on Fax: FAIL'
Test Report advises to put active phone cord in in the '1-line' port and then run the printer supplied cord in the other port ('2-ext') and connect that to the phone base. When I do this I do not get a dial tone.
If I switch the cords (put the active phone cord in '2-ext' port and HP cord in '1-line' port and to the phone base) I get a dial tone but the printer fails my fax setup test saying 'port not connect to correct port'
    HELP ?

If you just need fax once in a while, and you already have a scanner to scan any document into digital form. You might want try a *free* internet fax service, like fax.com, they send your document to a fax machine, and even receiving faxes goes to your email.

I see you are having issues with your print drivers.  I would like to help.
Are you connected USB or wireless?
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps

  • Officejet Pro 8600. faxes being sent or received are being cut off.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8600. Most (8 out of 10) faxes being sent or received are being cut off.  I or they only receive half the sheet.  HELP!!!

Hello bonnie753, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having fax issues.  I would like to assist.  Are you using the fax line that come with the printer? Are you plugged direct into a telephone wall jack or are you running into a modem?  Do you have anything between the printer and the wall jack on the fax line?
I would suggest performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest changing a few settings under your fax menu on the front panel of the printer:
    -Go to your setup menu
    -Select Fax settings
    -Set fax speed to slow
    -Turn off Error Correction Mode
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
