Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Setup -Printing shows in Queue and then disappears. Not Printing

I just received the Officejet Pro 8600 as a gift and loaded the set up software and  it on my wireless network.  When I try to print an email or a coupon, the command goes to the printer and shows in the queue. Then after several seconds, the printing queue (job) disappears without printing the document.  Does this command go through the HP ePrint function or the Network Officejet Pro 8600?  It shows the HP ePrint as being on USB.
I've run all of the diagnostics, downloaded all of the new software, firmware and updates.  I've spend many hours trying to get the printer to print.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi @bksechols
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that when you send a print job to your Officejet 8600 printer that it goes to the print queue and then disappears without the print job printing.
To better assist you, would you please provide some additional information?
How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
What operating system are you using?
Are all print jobs failing? If yes and you are using a Windows operating system, please Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.  The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues.
When you send a print job are emailing the printer’s ePrint email address? If so please review The HP ePrint Print Job Did Not Print If you are sending the print job by using the print command, please review the Print Jobs from Your HP Printer are Stuck in the Print Queue document.
I look forward to hearing from you.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless - Where are the printing shortcuts?????

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Printer
    Windows 7
    Where are the printing shortcuts?????
I just replaced a canon printer that died that had the concept of PROFILES, so that I could setup a PROFILE for each type of printing, i.e. 4X6 photos/documents/5X7 photos.  So it was easy for our family to print, they would pick each setting.
Now with latest driver for 8600 there are NO way to save a set of settings for a printer.   I have seen some old discussions on this but I just can't believe HP doesn't have this type of functionality in their drivers.  I don't need the ePrint and all the other bogus stuff installed with the 8600 driver, but I DO NEED the ability to save different sets of printing options so I don't have to remember, borderless or not, landscape or not, etc and keep wasting photo paper/ink/regular paper with incorrect options.
Here is another posting with similar points -> Customers are NOT getting full print functionality.  We don't care about the extra software, it is minimal.  Full functionality includes the ability to create profiles for different printing situations so that the user can easily choose that profile (and therefore all the myriad settings for that profile).  What HP has done is give us ONE profile, essentially, and every time you want to do something different, you have to change that ONE profile.  How is that helping?
As I said, if I want to switch from a normal printing job (e-mail, web page, etc.) which uses my ONE setting, and then want to print a 4x6 photo, I have to remember to change at least 6 different settings.  With the shortcut, I would select my "borderless photo" shortcut, and it would automatically switch paper trays, size, color, quality, you name it.  Now you force me to change that each and every time.
If someone can explain why this is considered full functionality I would be extremely grateful.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are having trouble with your print experience.
I am going to make some assumptions here, which could be wrong in your case, but might help others.  Since you mention printing from Windows7 and ePrint in the same thread, can I assume you are trying to print using the HP ePrint driver for windows (www.hp.com/go/eprintsoftware) ?  The ePrint driver also comes preinstalled on all HP laptops and pcs now, so maybe you made a recent pc purchase and therefore have the ePrint driver installed?
The goal of the ePrint windows driver currently has a lot less to do with providing the hundreds of print features and settings that the full featured, product specific print drivers provide.  The goal is to enable customers to be able to print to any recent or new HP printer through a number of different connection paths from a single installed print driver / print queue.  Once the ePrint driver is installed, printing with that driver will dynamically find direct network printers, cloud enabled printers, public print locations, direct wireless printers, etc., and create the correct print format depending on the print path taken.  If the printer is ePrint cloud enabled and has a good internet connection, the printer and the pc do not have to be in the same location.  For example, you can print from home to your printer at work.  You can send photos of the kids to your mom's printer in another state, etc.  The ePrint solution is also good for the traveling worker who just wants to send the occasional print job to the nearest network or wireless direct printer without having to find and install another print driver for each new printer.  One driver, one queue and you can print to any recent or new HP printer.
The ePrint driver has a few important print settings that customers may want to use (copies, duplex, grayscale, etc).  More may be added over time depending on demand.
BTW, because the ePrint driver does not have a ton of print settings to handle, the rendering of print jobs is as simple and efficient as possible and should not bog down your pc.
If you want all the bells and whistles in the print driver experience and just want to print to a single printer you can download and install the product specific print driver from hp.com
I hope that helps out a few people who may be wondering what the purpose of ePrint is!!
    Good luck.

  • Problem with Officejet Pro 8600 wireless printing

HP Officejet Pro 8600 will no longer print wirelessly from laptop, but will from IPad and Android phone using Samsung and Google Print. Used to work fine. Unaware of any changes to settings in either printer or computer setup. Have gone thru all trouble shooting steps including rebooting computer, router, and printer. Computer is connected to internet and bluetooth is on and working. Computer finds the printer but says it's offline.  Printer settings say printer wireless is on and is connected to network but wireless light will not illuminate.
As you can tell, I'm no expert. Experienced user, but not in wireless issues. Computer is Windows 8.1. I've read all the support info on this problem on the HP website and taken as many steps as looked appropriate (or I understood). Everything so far looks nominal except for the wireless light on the printer.
    Any thoughts?

Well, I finally got it to work by resetting and rebooting everything, starting with the modem/router, then laptop, I-Pad, and Android phone. Wireless light on the printer doesn't seem to be an issue. My Att DSL line is spotty at best, giving the modem not much to work with. The interaction of all the elements is complex given the demands I put on them. I'm 75 and have owned so many computers and peripherals since 1982 that I've lost count of them. But they haven't gotten easier to work with. I should have taken training as a network administrator rather than real estate!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 wireless print option with Mac OSX Snow Leopard?

Hi My 'old' 8600 printer died and I purchased a new one. I did not set up wireless communication with the old printer but am interested in doing so with this new one, or at least having that option.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8  Snow Leopard. The installation CD that came with the new printer says it's for OS X v10.6, Lion or Mountain Lion. Is it compatible with my system?

Hello KelliMK, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are looking into compatibility information.  The Officejet Pro 8600 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.  The software disc should allow the full install without issue.

  • Windows 8.1 incompatability with Officejet Pro 8600 wireless printer

HP pavillion g-7 laptop running Windows 8.1. Trying to wirelessly print to HP Officejet Pro 8600. Spent and hour and a half with Al uninstalling, reinstalling updated driver (3/9/14). Also ran scan doctor from HP. Multiple resets, restarts and yada.......At the end he thanked me for my time and told me to complain to Microsoft because 8.1 would not communicate with the printer properly. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

I saw your post about the issues you are having with your Officejet 8600 and Windows 8.1. Although I noticed you have done the majority of troubleshooting, I would like to recommend a Level 3 or Level 4 uninstall and then an install. See below for the details.
The OJ 8600 is compatible with Windows 8.1: Windows Compatibility Center
    1. Type %temp% in the run field and click OK.
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356) (if there is more than one 7z folder, try the most recent one)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the uninstall_ L4.bat for a non-HP PC or run the Uninstall_L3.bat for a HP PC (important)
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Install the printer: HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
    I hope this helps!

  • Can't get officeJet Pro 8600 wireless to connect

This is so frustrating. I just bought a HP Officejet Pro 8600 and am trying to set up the wireless connection to my ATT-supplied Netgear 7550 router.  I keep getting a message that "MAC address filtering is enabled on your wireless router" even though I have checked in the router setup and I am certain that it is not (it clearly says MAC is "not enabled").  I talked to the ATT tech support and they agreed--we even hard-rebooted the router and re-installed it and it seems to be working as intended.   I have unplugged and re-plugged the printer.  I have spent over 2 hours and keep getting the same message.
    Help?
Oh, I have also tried the HP Dr. software taht has been recommended to others, but it does not find my printer.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I already tried that once. I added the printer MAC address and selected "allow this address" or something like that. It did not seem to help, so I went back and disabled the MAC filtering completely. But, I can try that again. Certainly won't hurt.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 wireless network wizard only allows 25 characters of 26 character WEP encryption

    HP OfficeJet Pro 8600
    OS = Windows Vista
    Router = Linksys Wireless G 2.4 Ghz
I am replacing wireless 8500 home network printer with a new 8600 wireless printer
When using the 8600 wireless setup wizard I cannot get any further than attempting to enter my Router's 26 character encryption code because it only allows 25 characters to be entered. I seem to recall having the same setup problem with the 8500 three years ago, but I do not recall what the solution was.

HP Total Care reply was that new all-in-one printers now support 25 characters. Router tech support says the router's wireless security settings can be changed into a 10 digit key. For an out of warrantee router like mine I would have to access it by using its internet address and user password which is long forgotten and fails me from accessing. So, I am considering upgrading to a newer 5 Ghz router and will use a smaller WPA2 key.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Scanner setup

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Scanner that I cannot setup in my system.  I can webscan, but I cannot scan directly from the scanner.  It prints and copies just fine, but I cannot scan from the glass or ADF.  I don't use the fax option.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 e. Problem scanning from Scan and Capture App in Win 8.1

    Officejet Pro 8600 e.  New.
Installed on HP Envy 23 Touch. Running Windows 8.1.
Wireless set up. Prints fine.  Problem is scanning from the HP Scan and Capture Software App in Win 8.1
Using Scan and Capture App I can scan photos fine.  They come out clear.  Scanning documents in GRAY has multiple bands/lines in gray over the entire page running vertically.  Scanning documents in COLOR are fine.
Also, if I scan from the printer directly using the touch screen on the printer, the scan output is fine.
I did the Scan utilty to discover any errors and it did not show any.  I think it's a software error.  I am going to uninstall the HP Scan App and then reinstall.  So, I will do the uninstall/reinstall and report back.
Also, I would like to know if there is a desktop program for scanning?  I would prefer to use that instead of the Modern HP Scan and Capture App.
    Thanks....

    Hi artrum,
I understand you've been experiencing issues scanning from your Officejet 8600 using the Windows Scan and Capture program. I will certainly do my best to help you with this!
From what you've explained, I believe you're correct, it does seem like it's an issue just with the Windows Scan and Capture program and as you've been able to scan from the front panel of the printer you definitely have the HP software installed. What I'd like to do is have you use the HP Scan software, where you should no longer run into issues.
To access the HP Scan software and be able to access it easily from your desktop I'd like you to follow the steps below:
    1. Go to your start screen and just start typing File Explorer. You should be able to then open it to access your computer's files.
    2. Then open Local Disk (C: ), followed by Program Files (x86), followed by HP, then HP Officejet Pro 8600, followed finally by bin.
    3. In the bin folder you should see HPScan. You will want to right click on HPScan and go to Send To and then select Desktop.
Now you should see HP Scan on your desktop and be able to open it and scan through that application.
Hope this helps, have a great day!

I have a fabulous HP Officejet 8600 series wireless printer that is connected to my home network.  It works beautifully and efficiently!  So far, I've had no issues or problems with it, except for one little tweak that I would prefer to adjust if it is at all possible.  Can I set the print preferences so that when my Apps are printed (either as a scheduled app, or printed directly from the screen on the printer itself) so that they will print on BOTH SIDES OF THE PAPER???  And/or in DRAFT setting, with print on both sides, and with multiple pages per sheet??  I like to use these settings as often as possible to save on paper and ink and the like.   I usually only use the optimal print preferences when its time to produce an essay for school or a flyer or something like that.  If anyone can assist me, I would really appreciate it!!  And... Hello @ckilburg , welcome to the community
I read about the troubles you are having with setting up your Officejet 8600 on your wireless network, and I have some ideas that may help you.
    1. Restore the Network Defaults (On the printer select Setup, Network Menu, Restore Network Defaults, Yes, Restart the printer).
    2. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the front of the printer again from the same Network Menu.
    3. Once the printer is connected back to the network, assign a static IP to stabilize the wireless communication. This guide has the instructions on how to do that: Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection

I see that you are having an issue with staying connected on the wireless network.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
