Officejet Pro 8600 won't connect to wireless with Wireless extender connected

I am trying to get an Officejet Pro 8600 to connect to a wireless network, but it will not connect when my wireless network extender is connected. Once I disconnect the extender, it connects fine. Here is the setup. I have a Netgear wireless cable gateway CG3000D with a Amped Wireless Dual Band Router (R20000G) connected to the Netgear via ethernet cable. The Amped router is setup as a wireless extender, the Netgear and Amped share the same SSID. All my other devices work just fine connecting, laptops, cell phones, and IPads. When the Officejet 8600 tries to connect with the Amped connected, it tells me invalid password. Once I disconnect the Amped, the Officejet connects just fine. Any ideas how to get the Officejet to connect to the wireless with the Amped extender connected? Thanks

Are you using the same passkey on the extended network? (It is best to)
If so I would try using different SSIDs.  The printer will try to connect to the network with the better signal which might change depending on wireless interference.  There is no way to force the printer to connect to one network over another if the SSIDs are the same.
One other possibility.  Is the passkey the same for both 2.4 and 5ghz on the Amped Dual Band router?  Most routers can be set up to have different passkeys for each band.  The printer is a 2.5ghz device and will need that password the same on both the Amped and Netgear routers.
Please let me know your results.  Extending networks is becomming more common.  Understanding how to work with them will help everyone.

    Hi @Southglen,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer will not recognize your wireless router password. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this guide, How to Find the WEP or WPA Key or Password for Your Wireless Network, just to double-check your wireless password, in case it might have changed.
I would also suggest a hard reset, by going to this post How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.
After those two steps, I would suggest a firmware update, Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 P....
Let's start with these steps, and we will go from there!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was
unable to save the file to the specified location'.  It will save a regular PDF file
or a  JPG file with no problem, but trying to save an searchable PDF or .rtf file
results in the above mentioned system error.
This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.
The computer is running Windows XP and the I.R.I.S. OCR software is
    loaded.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't connect to my wireless router

This is bizarre.  I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 for about 6 months.  It has generally worked fine, and we have used it wirelessly only.  But now it refuses to connect to the router.  It can FIND the router, and it can find other networks in the area, but it won't connect to the router.  I ran the Wireless Network Test, and the results say:
Wireless On - Pass // Wireless Working - Pass //
Network Name (SSID) found - Pass //  Wireless Networks Detected - 9
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings - Pass / No Filtering - FAIL //
So it recommends solution as follows: "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled, and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."
Except, guess what, I don't have MAC Address filtering enabled.  I wouldn't know how to do that, much less check for it.
Also, before today, this was never a problem.  HELP!
    Thanks....
If you are interested, here's more detail and background.
Before today, the only problem we have had is that frequently our Apple laptop (OS X 10.6) has trouble connecting to the printer.  This has been odd because the printer is connected to the network, and so is the laptop, but the laptop can't find the printer - it thinks the printer is "offline" (even though it's not).  Usually, if I wait a while, it will find the printer, and it will resolve itself work fine.  If not, we sometimes have found that it can fix itself if you restart the laptop -- restarting the printer does not make a difference.   In fact, I did exactly that today, and it resolved itself.  And I printed.  Fine, right?
But then I wanted to do more printing, and the problem of the laptop not finding the printer came up again, so I decided to really "get to the bottom of this."  I don't remember exactly what I did, but somehow I was persuaded by the online help, that the correct solution would be to go into my System Preferences / Print and Fax, and click on the "-", which de-installs the printer, with the idea of re-installing the printer.  But then when I tried to re-install the printer, it could not find the printer.  Ugh!  Wierdly, it found an 8600 Scanner, but not an 8600 printers.  After installing and de-installing the 8600 scanner a few times, I eventually deinstalled everything, and I decided to start from scratch.  I got my HP disk, and installed all the software again from the beginning (even though it was already there), and then it looked for my printer, but couldn't find it.  So then I got a USB cord, and plugged that in.
So, now I have a situation where I do have a working printer via the USB cord, but no wireless connection at all.  In particular, since the Office Jet Pro 8600 won't connect to the router, I don't know what else to do.  My Apple MacBook pro is 2 feet away from the printer, and it is connected to the router just fine (as is my blackberry), and I have never before had a problem connecting to the wireless router by the printer.
    Any suggestions?

There are two things that can trip the mac filtering test to fail:  actual MAC address filtering setup (sounds like this is not the case) and using wireless channel 6 or automatic for wireless channel in the wireless network settings (in the router).  Since it does show failed for MAC filtering and you do not use this option, try changing the wireless channel in the router to 1 or 11.  Those two channels provide the best compatibility with printers due to less interference.  Almost everything defaults to auto or 6 for the channel and this causes a lot of interference.  This change should not affect anything at all.  To do this, you may need to contact the router manufacturer as the process differs from router to router.
What brand and model is the router?
Has anything in the network settings changed at all?
What version is the Mac OS X?  There may be additional steps to take as it sounds like there are two separate issues involved and this could be revisited later.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't remain available on network

I only recently started TRYING to use my Officejet Pro 8600 via my home network to no avail; I previously had it directly wired via USB to my computer.
The printer is accessible on my home network for a while, then becomes unavailable. This problem occurs when the printer is conneced via Wi-Fi or directly via ethernet to my router; I have to turn the printer off then on for it to be accessible again.
I have tried using a static IP address, with both wireless and wired connections, without success; I even tried setting the SYSTEM MODE TIMEOUT to zero via the ENGINEERING MENU, again without sustained success.
Problem is present when accessing the printer with my Windows, Mac, and iOS devices; the printer firmware is up-to-date.
I have had NO similar problems with my plain Officejet 8600 (NOT the Pro variant) at my office; it is connected by Wi-Fi via the same brand and model router.

    Hi @FineTuningDan
It sounds like when the printer goes into sleep mode it loses connection to the network.
This document contains information about the possible causes of a lost wireless connection, tips for avoiding the issue, tips for maintaining a connection, and troubleshooting steps to help you restore the wireless connection on your printer; Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
In addition to the solutions offered in the document and what you have probably already tried, please ensure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and not into a surge protector/ power bar. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see,
    ISSUE:
Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
Also, use the steps below to disable UPnP in the printers EWS,
    1. Typing the printers assigned IP address into the address bar of Internet Explorer. (you can get this from the report you would have printed while following the steps in the document I posted above)
    2. Click on the Network Tab at the top
    3. Select the Networking option on the left
    4. Click on UPnP option on the left
    5. Select the 'Disable UPnP' radio button
    6. Click 'Apply'
    I hope this helps.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print OS 10.7.5

I'm attempting to use an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911a wirelessly with OS 10.7.5
I had some issues with my Mac that required me to install a new hard drive and re-install the OS from scratch. But, instead of re-installing OS 10.6.8 I decided to upgrade to OS 10.7.5. But, now I can't print from my Mac. The Print Queue just shows the image below, but the page never comes out.
The Printer is seen by the computer and everything appears normal:
I can successfully use other features of the printer such as, Scan to Computer, so I know the network is setup correctly.
I should note that I could only use Scan to Computer after I modified the Computer Name. I had originally setup the Scan to Computer features when I was on OS 10.6.8 and the computer name was "MacPro", after installing OS 10.7.5 I discovered the computer name was "[User]'s MacPro" and the Scan menu on the printer only saw MacPro. After modifying the computer name I was able to enable and use Scan to Computer, so I know there is a connection between the two.
I have tried (in no particular order):
    Resetting Print Preferences
    Reparing Disk Permissions
Ensuring all software is up to date
    Rebooting Mac/Printer/Router
    I have not tried:
Reconfiguring the Wireless Setup on the printer (I'd like to avoid this because the printer is working for all other computers on the network.
Is there something I'm missing? Any advice is appreciated.

    Ok, this is weird.
Almost immediately after posting the problem, the printer came to life and started printing. To my surprise it was the print job that was in the Queue!
I don't know what happened or changed, but it seems that it did manage to print.
I just sent another test page to the printer and it cleared itself in the Queue, but I have not seen the document come out of the printer yet.
    What is going on?

  • Officejet pro 8600 won't scan through tray

    Good morning,
My printer won't scan anything through the the tray on top. I currently have an "HP Officejet Pro 8600" that I use for my mac. When I first set it up over 6 months ago I had no problem scanning anything through the tray on top but now after upgrading to Yosemite I have had nothing but problems. When I first installed Yosemite I wasn't able to print or scan but after fixing it with some updates I'm still not able to scan any documents through the tray only through the glass scanner I can scan things.
    Any Ideas?
Also when I choose HP scan it wont let change the presets from pictures to documents until after I have scanned something through.

  • Officejet pro 8600 won't print

    Hi,
I have an Officejet pro 8600 wireless with a Mac OSx 10.6. All has worked fine up to now - I have owned for a few months. Today it stopped printing for me. No error messages, just any print job stuck in the queue - Printer just says 'Idle' or 'Ready'. I have worked through HP's troubleshooting - and have tried all their suggestions - restart, unplug, delete and re-add printer, check wireless, to no avail.
    Any other suggestions?
And why can't there be a direct link to HP Support? I don't mind trying to solve the problem myself at first but when that doesn't work it would be nice to be able to call or IM someone at HP.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't print PDF's

Just bought a new OJP 8600 (3rd HP printer in a year, starting to get VERY frustrated). I've searched through all of the forums, all over the internet and cannot find a solution.  I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.3. I can't print any PDF files either through Acrobat 10.1.10 or Preview.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi thelmacotton, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are having issues printing PDF's.  I would like to try and help.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Driver- OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Hp officejet pro 8600 : doesn't scan to computer with new OS

When I purchased my new computer (HP envy 700) I thought I was happy with it.  THen it stopped working with my old HP printer because the software didn't match up due to "age" according to help desk.  So I bought a new HP printer, the jet pro 8600.  And low and behold this also does not work with my computer because of the operating system.  They (help desk)  set me up to use the online HP WEbScan.  But today I am working at home, and now that site doesn't work.  HOW can I use the scan option on the new printer if nothing is compatible? HELP i want to use my products they way the box says they are supposed to be able to be used!
More info it is the latest 8.1 operating system for windows, and I tried using the HP print and scan doctor 4.5 and the message it gives me looks like this:
well I guess it wont copy and paste the error message, it says calltodrivepackageinstallreturned error then a bunch of numbers and a webaddress.
    Very frstrated PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi @teacherbethany,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I am sorry for the frustration you are having, with not being able to scan, on your HP Officejet pro 8600. But I am happy to help you get scanning again!
For further assistance, I will need to know the following:
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try the solutions within this scanning guide, A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning.
Hope this guide will help, and hope to hear from you soon!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't recognize secure home network

Hi, just got an HP Officejet Pro. Setup went great, except for a snafu with our home network: it won't recognize it, even when I manually enter the name and password. It will however recognize our unsecured guest network. I temporarily set it up on that, but I'd rather be using the secured home network. I've run the wizard several times, reset to factory settings, all with the same result. Help?

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print wirelessly

    Hi All
I purchased a new 8600 (N911a) 2 days ago and can't get it to print wirelessly and am tearing my hair out (what's left of it anyway!).
I've read all the threads on the forum and tried several of them but with no joy.
The pinter is connected to my network. and all is showing as ok.  I can print the network test results page from the printer and all is ok. I can access the printer EWS and print a test page and all is ok. This is the only printer I have connected and it's set up as the defailt printer. I have run the HP Print & Scan doctor and it prints the internal test page but not the 'normal' one and basically tells me to uninstall and reload the software.
I've done this twice now, once from the CD and the second time from the HP website to make sure I have the lastest version. I've rebooted the router, printer and laptop (Acer running Vista Home Basic) and still nothing works. I've done the 'power reset' suggested by someone by pulling out the cable whilst the printer is on and that didn't work either.
I can scan from the printer to my laptop wirelessly so I know it's all connected and seeing each other.....just can't get the **bleep** thing to print and need to print out an urgent document for tomorrow!
Can't call the HP Printer tech support team in the UK as they only work Mon-Fri (typical large corporate that thinks the world sleeps outside of these hours!) so am stuffed.
    Anyone any other suggestions?
    Kind regards
    Brian

Forgot to add that I can ePrint via the web services. Ended up having to send the document as an email to the printer and it printed fine!!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't send fax

My previous HP printer faxed fine.  This one will not always connect even though it hears the fax tone.  I'll get an error 322, and then I try it again and it connects.  But now it sends 2 pages (I'm trying to send 3) then gives error 322.  I have a phone with answering machine on this line - the same configuration has worked fine with past HP printers.  I tried slowing down the fax speed - that has not helped.  I ran the fax test and got all passes, and I sent a test fax to 1-888-hpfaxme and that worked fine (I got a response back).  Could the problem be with the fax at the other end?  (except that I have been faxing to this same fax monthly for years) Or with my phone and answering machine (I have Vonage which also includes voicemail and caller id, which *32 does not turn off).  I've never experienced faxing being this hard.

    Hi anthony2,
I see by your post that you are having issues sending faxes and have been getting a 322 error.
I can help you with this issue.
Keep in mind that you are using a VoIP line and voicemail which can cause issues.
A Analogue line is your best bet for using a fax.
Make sure you are using the 2 wire fax cable.
I have provided a document to go through the steps to see if it will help resolve this issue.
Fax Sending Fails Intermittently or Fails for Only One Recipient.
This information was provided from this document for Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports.
There was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.
Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed
If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
If you need further assistance, let me know.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print cardstock

Ok I read through all of the tried and true solutions on the board and the kicker for me was turning off the Tray 2.  Once I did that - it printed the cardstock.  When you think about it - it just doesn't make sense and stupid.  I was almost ready to take this printer back.  I spent some good money on this printer and I am upset that I have to change the settings to use it.  REALLY HP?  Fix the driver and send out the disk or download to all who have a registered printer.  This is ridiculous and if someone is going to pay this amount of money for a printer, don't you think your customers deserve better?  And yes we do deserve better.  I'll keep this one for now but in the future I will probably go another manufacturer.

This would be a firmware issue, and since this is an issue that I have seen before and has been present on the forums there is a good chance that it will be addressed in a firmware update or in a printer update If and when that happens I will be sure that the information gets posted as soon as possible.
