OfficeJet Pro K8600 looses communication -will not print

This is our main printer in the design area at work and I really need this to work!!  Any help appreciated.
Vista SP2 Dell Pavilion Intel Quad 2.33ghz 64bit OS 8gb RAM OfficeJet Pro K8600 on USB cable to main ports
I loose the connection and have to reboot the computer to get it to print again.
It prints fine for several hours or a day or so, then suddenly will freeze part way through printing, or simply will not print at all. In Printer preferences I click on services - Ink levels tab - "computer unable to establish 2 way communication"
Removing the USB and reattaching does not help, nor does changing the USB port used.
Disconnected unit, rebooted, deleted printer icon, uninstalled printer drivers, rebooted, did full install using the HP CD and I still have the same problem after printing for awhile.
HP Diagnostic utility does not detect any problems when printer is not working or when it is working.

Did you install the two HP updates slp_dd_hati_110_107.exe and ConvergedIO_HPCOM_V3.exe?

Blue ink will not print (It prints the color pink instead.).
    Actions taken:
    1.  Cleaned ink heads.
    2.  Replaced ink cartrige.
    3.  Reinstalled software.

Purchase a new printer: Because the issue is software related - not reading the blue ink cartrige.
Any suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated.

The cyan portion of the printhead may be clogged.  I would suggest running the diagnostics shown here.  If three levels of cleaning of the printheads does not resolve the issue you may need a new printhead.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless (Vista x64) Will not print after Sleep Mode

    Hello,
As the title says the printer does not print after coming back from sleep mode. Before entering sleep mode the printer works fine and is responsive. After coming back from sleep mode the printer is still responsive (buttons on the touch screen can be pressed) but unfortunately does not accept any print jobs. Currently, I restart the printer to get it to print. It is connected wirelessly through WRT610N Linksys Router. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    -Artem Durytskyy

I have been having the same problem all during my warranty period. But no one ever told me it was a firmware problem until two days ago connected to the sleep mode for the wireless one. Supposedly, they have downloads for wire ones now online which I found for 909a and 909b, but not 909g which is wireless. Now I am out of warranty and they won't replace it. I have a long history with tech support since early 2010. Right now, they are sending me a power adapter to try, said to turn off sleep mode (which I dont' know how). Then I told them I found online a firmware download, Apr 2010 to update firmware. My current version is different that the one listed for the download. So, I'm going back to TS to have them fool with it. Has anything worked for you?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (UK purchase) will not connect to wired ethernet network

    Hi
We have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (purchase here in UK approx 9-12 months ago) which has sort of worked OK wirelessly but finance industry compliance requirements now require me to connect to it by normal ethernet cable.
When I disable wireless and plug in a (tested and working) ethernet cable it does nothing.  I have done a factory reset (via the screen menu) to remove any previous settings.  Turned off, turned on, still nothing.
I have restored Network defaults also using the menu command within settings - network; no difference.
In Network - wired summary the screen says:
    IP: Not applicable
MAC: xxxxxxxxxxx (not for sharing here)
Hostname: xxxxxxxxx (not for sharing here)
    Wireless Direct: Off
I have tried it with IP settings turned to Automatic (DHCP) - no joy.
I have tried it with IP settings turned to Manual(Static) - when i then type in the static IP address that is within the router range (but outside the DHCP reserved range) as soon as I press Done, the settings are lost i.e. 192.168.0.102 - push 'Done' and the IP goes back to 000.000.000.000
The same when entering the default gateway and subnet masks.
I have restored to defaults several times, tried manual and DHCP several times, no joy.
Please let me have some serious suggestions at the earliest opportunity.  Just to reiterate I have tested the network connection and cables with other ethernet equipment and they are working.  My questions include:
    1.   Anyone know how to make this printer actually store the manually entered IP addresses etc?
    2.  What am I missing about the wired setup?
    3.  Is this a known issue?  Is it an issue with the hardware ethernet socket or something?
    4.  Also in this forum there are references to a Hard Factory reset that is apparently different to the menu 'Reset to Factory Defaults' but links to an article about it just give a 404 error, not found.  [Does HP actually have two different levels of Factory Default and if so, God knows why!  Does anyone know a working link to this information please?

Hello Qw8, welcome to the forums!
I read your post about not being able to successfully install your Officejet 8600 Plus to your wired network. I will do my best to find suggestions for you to try. I would first like to know which Operating System you are installing the printer on to help me with my research.
If you haven't already, run the installation (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g Drivers) with your security and firewalls disabled to see if the proper connection can be made.
I do see you ask about other resets and there are others however, at this stage they may not be needed. If they are, I can send you a private message at that time with that information.
Please let me know your OS and we will go from there!

  • HP Officejet Pro K8600: change static IP address using printer control buttons

Our network was changed this morning and I am working with a different addressing scheme.  I need to change the static address for our HP Officejet Pro K8600 which has no control panel on the printer.  I had to do this once before and found instructions which (believe it or not) included something like pressing the paper feed button 23 times.  It worked but now I can't find the instructions!!!! It's not something I can recreate because it was very specific.  Does anyone have these instructions? I need them desperately.
    Thanks.

Still not what I needed but I did finally find what I was looking for.  Clearly not found in any manual.  Here it is for anyone else that is looking for the same info.
    ‎From a post on 11-25-2008 03:46 PM from KFMiles:
I really hope this helps you. Believe it or not there really is a reset for this printer.
I had put in a manual IP address and forgot one piece of data. Then I couldn't print to it or access it. Basically I was out of luck. I scoured the internet, I read the manual, I used the HP online help. No luck. Finally I broke down and called HP directly. Took us about 10 minutes of dialog and redoing everything I did before (patience here on my part). The tech disappeared for awhile and came back with a new step from the printer guru god for K8600. Seems if you enter the code number 230, the printer defaults are reset to the factory values.
Ahhh, you say what? There are only 3 buttons to press and no keypad. The X and the page button mean something besides print configuration (hold X) or print page demo (hold Page). Seems if you press and HOLD the power button, the X changes to a unit code factor of 10, and the page button changes to a code factor of one. DO NOT do this code with the network cable plugged in I am told by HP .. so read on...To enter 230, press and hold the power button (light goes off but unit stays on), then press the X button 23 times, Let them both loose. Wait about 20 seconds, and print yourself out a configuration page (by holding X until printer starts working to print). You should see that your net numbers are blank. This will be normal with the network cable unplugged. Plug the network cable back in and wait about 30 seconds, by this time the router will have assigned a new IP. Print out your configuration again. Whatever you got is your new number until you reassign it by using the webserver. This new IP address is your ticket to this server.
This makes you wonder what other codes are there that we don't know about.

  • Macbook pro OS 10.7.5 will not print

My MB 10.7.5 will not print to with either one of my Epson printers, inkjet photo printer 4800, and all in one Workforce 545.
After I send it to the printer the printer window just idles saying that its "sending data to the printer", does the same with both printers. Ive let them idle for plenty of time.
I followed  all  the advise I read by reseting the printer drives, uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted everything many times and still getting the same results.
I don't think it has anything to do with Epson. Should I upgrade to OS 8?
    Any suggestions are much appreciated.
    thank you
    L

I don't know the answer to your problem, but until you resolve it do not upgrade OS X.
I would suggest you try a reinstall:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 fax from computer will not fax more than one page without canceling job

HP Officejet Pro 8600 MFP running on Windows 7 64 bit. I purchased this printer almost a month ago. The install was simple and straight forward with no apparent problems but when trying to fax from computer the program seems to be only able to fax one page faxes. Any multiple page faxes will show a message "spooling" for 10 to 15 seconds then it will cancel the entire fax. I have tried this in both wired and wireless modes with the same results. I have sent 30 page plus faxes from the printer without any problems, it is only the fax from computer that seems to have memory issues. Any solutions out there?

Have you tried updating the firmware on the printer?
If not, here is a link to the most recent firmware:

    Best of luck,

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911g new firmware will not install.

My printer: Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
    Current Firmware: CLP1CN1416AR
My problem: Downloaded the latest firmware update (Version CLP1CN1322CR). When I go to install it, my printer shows as listed, but in the STATUS cloumn, it is listed as "Not applicable".
    I turned my printer on/off.
I tried updating via network, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
    I tried updating via USB.
I tried updating via the LCD panel on the printer, and when it checks for an update, it states there are no updates avaiable.
Is there something wrong as to why this current firmware will not install?
    Thanks for any help.

New Firmware (CLP1CN1416R) was installed automatically (Printer was set for "Auto Update").  Prior to new firmware install,  printer has performed flawlessly...no problems.  Immediately after printer updated it's firmware automatically I began to have multiple problems.
First, it kept asking me to perform an "Alignment" which I dutifully performed only to have message come back that 'Alignment Failed".  Printed sheet looked fine, and printer printed fine but now before any page will print the "Alignment Recommended" message comes up which I have to then override (Click 'Do Not Align' button at bottome of 'Alignment Recommended' message box.  This is getting really OLD!!  Simply unacceptable for a business class printer!!
Also, the printer randomly has started giving other messages such as "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" AND "Cartridges are Missing" ("when I've just recently put in new catridges and levels are OK!!) AND "Paper Jam" (when there is no jam!!)
None of these problems have occurred prior to the automatic firmware update.  I believe the reason HP hasn't posted the new firmware update to their Customer Service website is that they know there are bugs in it and don't want to compound the problems the new version has already created.  I seriously question why an automatic updating of firmware was done with equipment set to "Auto Update" and yet that same new firmware is not available to those who might have had their printers set for "Manual Update".
HP Customer Service - You need to issue a statement from the company as to what has happened with this firmware update.  If there are problems, take responsibility for it and make it right.  HP knows who it sent out auto updates to.  These printer owners should be immediately notified and the situation made right.  It is not real assuring to have your front line staff not know why the new firmware is not on the website.  I do not like the idea of having to pay for a Support Call when the problems with my out of warranty printer are directly tied to the Auto Updating of said printer with apparently defective firmware.
I'd really appreciate a response back from someone in HP Customer Service.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus paper tray will not go all the way in so cannot print

Have loved this printer for almost two years but suddenly the drawer which holds the paper will not go all the way in so cannot print.  Took it to a so-called tech at Office Depot who said that because you cannot open/remove the tray, there is no way to see what is jamming it.  Any thoughts?  My first call for tech support was answered by a tech here in the US who said they had experience with it and it could be fixed and asked dme to call again when I was back in the office and at the printer.  The next four calls were answered overseas and they all had had no experience with this problem.

Sorry to hear that you are having some issues when it comes to printing anything in green.  I see that you have also attempted some steps in cleaning the printer.  I am going to give you a document that gives great detail in troubleshooting Print quality / Defective printouts.  This link has different documents that deal with print quality issues.
One other thing that could be affecting the Ink Delivery System is how you have the power cable connected. If you have it connected to a power bar/strip, please remove it and connect it directly to a wall outlet.  Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for all HP products in general.  Please click the link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

I had the same issue - and it is discussed in several posts around the net without providing a solution.
Here is my solution on a Windows 8 system:
I reinstalled Windows 8 to identify the problem and installed stepwise all programmes I had
The problem occurred after I installed Corel Draw X6 with Ghostscript and the Shell Extension.
Once I went back to the last restore point BEFORE the Corel Draw installation, Adobe worked perfectly fine. I reinstalled Corel WITHOUT Ghostscript and the Shell Extension (didn't want to verify which one caused the problem) everything was fine again.
Yet, deinstalling Ghostscript and the Shell Extension did not solve the problem.
I also did not try to repair Adobe after the deinstall of Ghostscript and Shell Extension
Hope that helps some otheres here

Thanks for trying to help.  I am happy to report my experiments and results. Microsoft Word:I open a blank document.  Type something in.  Select the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to some fonts (those listed on my DOES print) the document shows up in the print queue and prints.  When I change to the other fonts (those listed as DOES NOT print) nothing happens.  It just sits there.  No messages.  No crash.  Nothing in the print queue.  I can walk away for hours (as I have done) and come back and nothing has happened.  When I change back to a DOES print font it prints.  Change it back to a DOES NOT print font and it doesn't.  Repeatable.  Consistent.  No configuration changes or installs have changed it. Microsoft Excel:I open a black spreadsheet.  Type something in.  Highlight the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to a DOES print font it prints.  When I change to a DOES NOT print font I get this: "Microsoft Office Excel    Your file could not be printed due to an error on HP Officejet Pro 861   on 0.  There are several possible reasons:. General problems: The printer may be unavailable, the network may be down, the communication port to the printer may be corrupt or unavailable, a hardware error at the computer may have occurred (out of paper, paper jam, out of ink, out of toner, etc), and a language setting may need to be reset from the Regional Options control panel.
Local problems: There are several reasons for a local printer (a printer that is attached directly to your computer) to fail:
Check to make sure the printer has paper, ink, and/or toner and check the cables.
If the printer appears to be functional and a printer test by the printer itself indicates the printer is working properly, then check the cables, printer port from the computer, and configuration of the printer at the computer.
Occasionally, an application can develop a conflict with the printer driver and cause a memory leak which corrupts the printer port. If all else fails, restart the computer, recycle the power to the printer, and try printing again.
Occasionally it is even necessary to delete the printer driver and reinstall the latest version of the printer driver.
Network problems: There are various reasons for a network printer to be inaccessible: the name may have changed, it may be out of paper, out of ink, out of toner, down for maintenance, the network could be down, or a printer job previous to yours has stalled due to incorrect settings on the user's computer who last submitted a print job, or even your printer driver cannot communicate correctly with the printer. Network related printer failures are usually best handled by your local technical support.
Memory problemsn occasion, large print jobs with complex graphics or consisting of several hundred pages, which can consume large quantities of memory on the printer, may cause a problem (especially if there was an over run of memory at the printer). You may want to try reducing the amount of complex graphics in your print job, or break the print job up into smaller segments and see if that corrects your problem. It is not uncommon for a very complex graphic to have a defect or error which prevents it from printing on any printer. It may be necessary to load new or revised graphic converters or drivers in order to alleviate a problem of this type.
For more information about fixing problems related to printing, see Microsoft Windows Help and Support. • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:
