Officejet6600 won't fax

Hi,
We recently purchased an HP 6600 Officejet.  However, we can't get it to fax.  I've already gone through the fax set up, restarted it, etc.  It keeps saying "Unable to send or receive faxes."  Please advise.
Thank you!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Won't Fax

    My printer and scanner works fine, but it will not send or receive a fax.  I went through all the troubleshooting steps on the hp website and it still won't fax.  I'm not sure what else to do.  The phone line is good.

    Hi Cathy_Orleans, welcome to the forums,
    I understand you are unable to send or receive faxes from your Officejet 8600 Plus. I would suggest trying all of the troubleshooting steps in the guide below for this problem.

  • HP LaserJet M1536dnf won't fax or copy from Automatic Document Feeder.

    HP LaserJet M1536dnf - Put a fax to send in the ADF.  Display shows "Document Loaded"  Enter Phone # to send fax. Press "Start Fax".  ADF feeds fax through the scanner and display shows "Storing Fax: Page 1".  After page is scanned display changes to "Fax Job Added".  Machine then returns to "Ready" condition without sending fax.  If Fax is placed on flatbed and phone # is dialed, then "Start Fax" button is pressed, display shows "Fax from glass? >Yes". press "OK".  Display then shows "Load page 1 Press [OK]".  Display shows "Storing fax: Page 1".  Display then changes to "Another page? >Yes".  Then i press an arow next to the "OK" button to change Yes to No and then press "OK".  Display then shows "Dialing & phone number".  When connection is made, it sends the fax.  It goes through a similar scenario when attempting to copy from the ADF.  Load original in ADF and press "Start Copy".  ADF feeds original through scanner & display shows "Copying Page 1".
    Machine then returns to "Ready" without feeding paper to print the copy.  If you copy from the glass it prints a copy.  This unit is used only as a stand alone fax & copier.  It is not connected to a PC.  PLEASE HELP!

    Dear X-23,
    I'm sorry to report that your reset didn't correct my problem.  I tried that fix earlier today.  I'll have to see if I can connect it to a PC and try the download fix that you suggested.  I'll let you know if I'm successful.  I do thank you for your reply.

  • Apple Laserwriter 4/600 Won't Print using Lion 10.7.4

    Yesterday I bought a new MacBook Pro running 10.7.4 and discovered I cannot print to my Laserwriter 4/600 using Asantetalk connected to ethernet (which is connected via a router to my AirPort Extreme (round, white circa 2005).
    If I use one of my older MacBooks to share the printer with my new one, then it prints fine, no problem at all. It's direct printing that's the problem.
    I also did NOT have a problem setting up my MBP (OS 10.5.8) to print from the LW when I got it in 2008.
    What I've done is:
    - Go to Sys. Prefs > Print & Scan > + printer in Printers list, select "IP". At that point I have tried ALL of the options, IPP, LPD and HP, which I detail below. With each one I have tried, I have had to manually Select Printer Software. When I select Apple Laserwriter 4/600, I have had to also manually give it a Name in order for me to Add the printer.
    At that point, here's what happens when I try IPP:
    - I get the message 'Unable to verify the printer on your network. Unable to connect to " due to an error. Would you like to create the queue?' I select Continue.
    - It then says it's setting up the printer, and "Make sure your printer's options are accurately shown here so you can take full advantage of them." Memory Configuration: I select 6 MB, then the OK button.
    - Then it says it's setting up the printer.
    - I then try to print.
    - I open up the printer monitor, it acts like it's going to print, but then Pauses. My document stays in the queue, and when I try to Resume Printer, it acts like it's going to print again, but then  get a message something like "The printer's URI is incorrect or no longer exists." The it pauses it again. I try again. Pause. and it will just keep doing this and never print.
    Keep in mind, after I try each method and it doesn't work, I delete both the print job and the printer from the list.
    So I delete the printer, try adding a new one with LPD:
    - It doesn't give me a message that it's unable to verify the printer on my network, which seems good, but then when I try to print, it says it's copying print data, it's connected to the printer, and then it pauses. I keep trying, but it keeps pausing it.
    When I try the HP, like the IPP it tells me it's unable to verify the printer on my network. I Continue anyway, it acts as if it's setting it up, but nothing happens, so I hit the "Configure" button. I then select my memory configuration. It seems to take, so I try to print. It acts like it's processing the job, but then says the printer is busy.
    I went to this page:
    I hope I have given enough information about my ystem and printer. I have scoured these forums and Google, and cannot find a solution to my problem that works. I am hoping I don't have to print only using a shared printer because that is a bit of a hassle since I don't plan on always having an older MBP running as a server.
    Thanks.

    The original hardware and cabling specification for AppleTalk was known as LocalTalk.

  • Canon mp 600 won't scan.

    I can not seem to scan in the Leopard OS on my Canon MP 600. I was able to scan in the Virtual xp os I'm using VM fusion. Printer is disconnected and is shutdown.
    Fusion is closed, I've rebooted, I can print but can't scan.

    Do you have the scanner driver installed? There are separate printer and scanner drivers; visit the canon website and check out the downloads for your printer (if it is not already installed)

  • TIFF generated with JAI won't fax

    I have tried to generate some simple black/white TIFF files with JAI, which I have then sent to a fax via a tool on an IBM AS/400. The TIFF files look fine on my computer, and the faxing tool also sends them without problems, but the result when the fax machine prints them is just some random pixels in the top of the page.
    I have tried all the fax compatible encodings - COMPRESSION_GROUP3_1D, COMPRESSION_GROUP3_2D and COMPRESSION_GROUP4, with the same result.
    The funny thing is, that if I open one of the generated TIFFs in IrfanView and save it again with the same encoding, the fax machine is able to print it perfectly. So there must be some settings that are changed, which also can be seen by inspecting it with a tool I found called AsTiffTagViewer.
    My original file:
    ImageWidth (1 Long): 300
    ImageLength (1 Long): 300
    BitsPerSample (1 Short): 1
    Compression (1 Short): Group 3 Fax (aka CCITT FAX3)
    Photometric (1 Short): MinIsBlack
    FillOrder (1 Short): Msb2Lsb
    StripOffsets (38 Long): 450, 490, 530, 570, 610, 650, 690, 730, 770,...
    SamplesPerPixel (1 Short): 1
    RowsPerStrip (1 Long): 8
    StripByteCounts (38 Long): 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40,...
    Group3Options (1 Long): 1
    After being through IrfanView:
    ImageWidth (1 Short): 300
    ImageLength (1 Short): 300
    BitsPerSample (1 Short): 1
    Compression (1 Short): Group 3 Fax (aka CCITT FAX3)
    Photometric (1 Short): MinIsWhite
    FillOrder (1 Short): Msb2Lsb
    StripOffsets (1 Long): 8
    Orientation (1 Short): TopLeft
    SamplesPerPixel (1 Short): 1
    RowsPerStrip (1 Short): 300
    StripByteCounts (1 Long): 1101
    XResolution (1 Rational): 0
    YResolution (1 Rational): 0
    PlanarConfig (1 Short): Contig
    ResolutionUnit (1 Short): Inch
    Software (10 ASCII): IrfanView
    So the question is, whether someone knows which of the tags that are relevant for making it fax-able, as well as how to set them with JAI, which I haven't figured out yet.
    My code:
    //Read PNG file, save as TIFF
    String sourceFile = "jaitest.png";
    PlanarImage image = JAI.create("fileload", sourceFile);
    BufferedImage bi = image.getAsBufferedImage();
    OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream("jaitest.tif");
    TIFFEncodeParam param = new TIFFEncodeParam();
    param.setCompression(TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_GROUP3_2D);
    ImageEncoder enc = ImageCodec.createImageEncoder("TIFF", os, param);
    enc.encode(bi);
    os.close();

    Problem solved by experimenting. Don't ask me why, but it works when I do this:
    param.setWriteTiled(false);
    param.setTileSize(IMG_WIDTH, IMG_HEIGHT);

  • HP Officejet 8610 won't Fax after Xfinity installed router?

    So, my printer has been working fine, up until Xfinity installed a new router.  Since this router was installed, I have not been able to Fax.  I have plugged phones into the phone lines, and they work from the wall.   I'm a technician and have checked the Windows 7 64 bit OS, virus's, etc. to isolate software from hardware issues.  I have unloaded and uninstalled all installed drivers, rebooted, and reinstalled again with latest drivers, that didn't designate 32 bit vs. 64 bit drivers.  Nothing has worked.  I will now describe the line setup from wall to Xfinity Router.  Not sure whether 2-wire phone cord from wall, to an in - out buffer.  A 2 in. piece of wire between next buffer. Another line from the out of the 2nd buffer into the Xfinity router.  That is the input.  The output from the router goes to the back of my All in One Printer.  I have troubleshot what I could check from the enclosed troubleshooting document, and no resolution.  I saw something on a forum, with Comcast routers, you need to run 2 wire phone lines, or there may be intermittent issues where the Fax could work, then not work?  It hasn't worked since the Xfinity router was installed.  This is a single line directly to the Router.   The Fax machine has it's own designated number, but there is phone and answering machine/voicemail upstairs.  I believe they are separate lines.  This All - in -One worked fine, until Comcast upgraded the Router.  This is my Uncle's PC, so have no idea if the phone lines are 2 wire or not.  Hate to go change everything with no resolution.  Is there a way to internally run a Fax test?  I ran diags through the hardware, and everything PASSED.  Also, running USB cable, not Wireless.  Please help.  Thank you!
    Steven_23

    More Info.  The Xfinity Router is an Xfinity Arris TG 862.  Reset Router, after unplugging and replugging in all input and output phone wires.  Did notice input had 4 wires, and output had 2 to Fax.   Additional weirdness, it receives Faxes, but can't send any out?   Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  • OS  10.3.9  won't fax

    About 8 hours, now, trying to send a fax using 0S 10.3.9 or Faxstf X. Apparently, the bundled Faxstf version does not work (Smith Micro has promised to send a download link for v. 10.5.3 but I have not rec'd it) and also conflicts with Panther. Either Panther does not work, either, or one must remove Fax stf (no instructions on how, no installer disks with me) before Panter will work. I have tried sending via Epson Scan "Copy to Fax" (which worked beautifully on OS9,2,1 with Global Fax software) and also scanning, saving, then faxing from the document. Others have described the same phenom.: Appears to read the fax to somewhere, places title in the jobs window with a "hold" designation and an expiration time of around 3 minutes or so, and just sits. Once, a message flashed by about a software error. Epson drivers were just updated. I tried disabling the receive fax function in the Print/Fax prefs (per Smith Micro) and using Faxstf to no avail. the apple internal modem is selected. The same phone line is functioning fine as I write for Internet access. Help. I need to get info to people who do not use email! Thank you.

  • Officejet6600 print perfect but I get error message when scanning and just idles when trying to copy

           Hello, I have an OfficeJet6600 printer and up until just yesterday this unit funtioned normally and had no trouble printing, scanning or copying from my computer.  Yesterday however I  found I could not scan and then worked with an HP support Rep on the phone regarding my HP OfficeJet6600 not scanning properly.  I am connecting to my printer wirelessly and have no issues printing.  However, I cannot scan and when I attempt to do so get a  scanner unreachable message.  The Rep deleted and reloaded every program and file associated with the printer and still the same result.  He advised me that the issue lies in my Windows 7 64bit OS and I might want to contact Microsoft support for a patch to fix the problem.  He also advised me to chat the forum as there may be a solution there that someone already optained from Microsoft.
            I starting looking through the forum this morning and came across some correspondence a Rep had with another customer and he advised the customer to check to see if the copy feature worked.  He stated that if it did not work either then more than likely it is a hardware problem and not a software problem.  At any rate, after reading that I tried to copy and sure enough the printer cannot complete that task either.  When you hit copy it say's copying on the printer screen but little icon beside copying  just spins forever and nothing happens.  You actually have power down the printer to get it to stop. Now I am confused.... Do I have a software or hardware issue?

    Hello,
    After reading the problem description, i see that its a printer hardware issue. Its the scanning module that seems have an issue.
    The solution to this issue is Servicing the printer unless you have tried the below mentioned steps...
    While the printer is ON, unplug the power cord from back of the printer.
    Wait for 60 seconds.
    Plug in the power cord directly to a wall outlet ( bypass the surge protector / power strip ).
    If printer does  not power ON, then press the ON button to do so.
    When the printer goes silent, then try making a COPY.
    If issue still exists, then its time to service the printer.
    Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • Hp 4630 windows 8, 64-bit - no time/date on fax confirm. sheet on dial-up AND No fax with wi-fi?

    Hi. I have a problem with faxing. When I fax using regular phone dial-up, the time/date is not stamped on the confirmation sheet printed out after a fax is completed.
    Also, when I switch to wi-fi on xfinity, the fax doesn't recognize it and won't fax.

    Hello @fuzzyfb , and welcome to the HP Forums!
    I hope you had a good weekend.  I understand you are experiencing issues with your fax setup.  I would like to assist with that!
    I would recommend performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
    I would also suggest this HP document on Setting up a New Fax for information on setting up date, time and general settings.

  • Won't boot OSX, how to open disc tray to put in repair or install disc?

    My iBook G3 600 won't boot to the desktop, it hangs on the startup/spinning wheel. Can someone suggest a variety of good common sense solutions?
    Also, how does one open the disc tray (to put in the original install and/or repair disc) if the tray won't open by pressing F12 during the failed startup?

    Hi Ronda.
    Thanks for the target mode article. An earlier attempt to run the iBook G3/10.4 as a target disc resulted in the MacBook Pro not being able to recognize/see the G3's drive, which seems to confirm my suspicion that there is major corruption or disc failure on the iBook.
    My needs now seem to center around data recovery (if possible) and then attempting to replace the iBook HD.
    As regards data recovery/disc repair, have you used or had success with TechTool Pro 4? I have TechTool Deluxe as part of my MacBook AppleCare program and may decide to upgrade to the Pro version, if merited. The app should work with my G3, which runs OS 10.4 (but not 10.5).
    Also, have you attempted a HD replacement on a G3? iFixit.com offers detailed instructions. While it seems do-able for a layperson like myself, it does involve a near complete disassembly of the case, shield, housing, etc.
    Finally, and apropos of nothing, have you attempted to put 10.5 on your G3? My understanding is that 10.5 exceeds the G3 specs.

  • Faxing a two sided document

    I purchased an OfficeJet Pro 8610 and apparently it won't fax a two sided document.  Any suggestions besides printing the back sides and then faxing?

    Hi,
    You may manually scan the two sided focument to your computer and thne initiate the fax job from the computer:
    Open the HP Officejet Pro 8610 software and click on Scan a Document or Photo.
    Select PDF, ensure the Show Scan Preview option is checked and the resolution is not longer then 300 PPI.
    Once the page scans, place the otehr side on the scanner glass and click the plus sign below the scan preview, once you are done click on Save.
    Finally, open the PDF and clcik on File > Print, then select the Fax copy of the printer and send the scanned document from the PC.

  • How do I determine if the memory problems are with my imac and not the RAM?

    I've heard of some vague problems with intel imacs and their memory slots. I'm about to replace (for the 3rd time) RAM, and think I need to test further to see if the problem is with my imac and not the RAM. Right now I put back in the original 2-512 sticks that came with the imac, and the rember test is only showing 594mb (odd amt!) testing OK. But, in "about my mac" it will show as 1gb.
    Problems I've had with each set of RAM: occasional KP's, excessive spinning beachballs, sudden closing of apps (esp. if I have several apps running), won't fax usually (will hear a fax tone instead of a dial tone at the onset), disappearing documents section under my username.
    I bought this imac refurbed thru the apple store last fall: 2.16 C2D 20" imac
    Any ideas before I have to separate myself from my imac to send it in??

    Hi Toodles
    The pin strips on the new modules maybe a little thicker than your original modules, and it's going to take more force to seat them properly. If the new Memory Specifications are correct I would try them again. Slide them in untill they stop, then push real hard untill you feel them seat into place.
    I've never seen a report about an odd amount of ram shown. If reinstalling the ram modules does not solve your issue, and may be a indication that there is something wrong with one of the slots.

  • Printing big Image throws OutOfMemoryError

    Hello,
    I am new to "Java Printing", this is my first attempt to print somthing in Java, I am trying to print several JTextPanes and a big PNG image as a background for them. Sometimes everything work fine, but sometimes it throws java.lang.OutOfMemoryError, full message is: Exception in thread "Image Fetcher 0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space. I use JDK 1.5_06.
    I use the following code to print Image and JTextPanes:
    PrinterJob printerJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
    printerJob.setPrintService(servicesName);
    PrintRequestAttributeSet pras = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
    pras.add(new PrinterResolution(200, 200, ResolutionSyntax.DPI));
    PageFormat pf = printerJob.defaultPage();
    Paper paper = pf.getPaper();
    paper.setSize(1654D,2339D);//A4 page size with 200 DPI
    paper.setImageableArea(0D,0D,1654D,2339D);
    pf.setPaper(paper);
    printerJob.setPrintable(documentPanel, pf);
    printerJob.print(pras);documentPanel is instance of class DocumentPanel:
    /*Panel that contains my JTextPanes */
    public class DocumentPanel extends JPanel implements Printable{
    /*overriden method print*/
    public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int index) throws PrinterException {
            if (index > 0) { /* We have only one page, and 'page' is zero-based */
                    return NO_SUCH_PAGE;
                Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
                g2d.translate(leftMargin, topMargin);
                //draw the background image
                g2d.drawImage(iipmt().getImage(),0,0,null);
                g2d.scale(1.667D, 1.667D); /*this is to make children  JTextPanes bigger.
                As I see after printing  this line doesnt affect size of image, which is set above.*/
                /* Now print all children - JTextPanes without parent*/
                this.printChildren(g2d);
                /* tell the caller that this page is part of the printed document */
                return PAGE_EXISTS;
    static ImageIcon iipmt(){
             return  new ImageIcon("image.png");
    } If I change image to another one with smaller size and use 72 DPI instead of 200 my program always work fine. Also it seams that extending java heap space with -Xmx256 can solve this problem (I don't know exactly because error doesn't repeat always and I cant determine some special conditions for this error).
    I dont want to extend heap space and I think it is not necessary for printing images, so I would like to know, is there better way to print Images mixed with Swing components? Or what mistakes did I make?

    A printer setting of 600 dpi doesn't mean 600 pixels per inch. It's a relative quantity of how much ink you want the printer to use to faithfully reproduce the pixels on the page. So for example, you start to achieve photo quality around 250 pixels per inch, but would need to set the printer to 1200+ dpi if you ever hope for it to print out correctly. Trying to achieve 600 pixels per inch would be suicide for your printer.
    That being said, you're not actually doing anything with this dpi or ppi stuff. In your code you're ultimately just drawing the image, scaled to the page's size using nearest neighbor interpolation, and printing it at 72 pixels per inch. In the code you commented out, you have the interpolation fine but miss the mark on the scaling. Specifically, you scale the graphics correctly, but then two lines later you set the transform to something else.
    Try this:
    double scale = 72/...;  //be reasonable, 600 won't work, 72 pixels-per-inch may be just fine
    Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) printerGraphics;
    g2d.scale(scale,scale);
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION,
                         RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BICUBIC);
    g2d.drawImage(image,xMargin,yMargin,
            (int) Math.floor(pageFormat.getWidth()/scale),
            (int) Math.floor(pageFormat.getHeight()/scale),null); This should (in theory) scale the image to the page's size using bicubic interpolation, and print it at what ever pixels-per-inch you specify. The crappy output you were getting could of been the nearest neighbor interpolation, the 72 ppi, or some combination of both.

  • Image is garbled when scanning with image capture

    I have a strange problem scanning using Image Capture and an Epson Workforce 600 printer/scanner/fax.
    The preview scan looks like this. When opened in Pixelmator, it looks similar.
    After a reboot, the preview images from the scanner are okay, images scan fine but only for a short time. Then it goes back to something like the image above.
