Official Page: Why No 1 Year Contract??

I have contacted multiple sources even gone to a few verizon stores and nobody knows why this phone isnt availavle for a 1 year contract price? Will it become available after the 10th? This phone is not worth buying and locking yourself in for 2 years. If anyone gets any new information Post here.

I was hoping for a one year contract, but since it wasn't offered, I went with the full retail price.  I still have my upgrade available and my contract will soon be over.  This will leave me with some flexibility should a newer iPhone appear in the next 20 months.
Only thing I slightly regret is ordering from the Apple site.  Even though it was a little less expensive, they don't ship overnight like Verizon does.  I think this could have something to do with the higher price on the Verizon site.

  • Why is one year contracts so expensive anymore?  ETF's simply do not jive with upgrade prices.

Ok so I was looking at the LG Octane, but was shocked at the prices for a one year upgrade.  The retail price is listed at $249.99.  The ETF is $175.  So if I subtract the "subsidized" amount of $175 from the $250, I should be buying this thing for less than $75.  Why is it almost $220 with a $50 online discount, making it almost $170?
The carriers for years have been saying that the ETF's were to protect themselves from people quiting early, and them losing the retail price of the phone.  It seems to me that they are getting closer to $345 for the LG octane with all the upfront price of the phone and the ETF fees, if someone was to quit early.
I also was told by several dealers that I can get this phone for FREE with a 2 year contract, but I can not find any similar reasonable deals on a one year contract.  Currently, if I buy a LG OCTANE on a one year contract, I am paying at least $100 more than the phone should be.
I have heard the excuse a few times that "it is for the carrier to recoup lost service revenue also", but again, that is not what the ETF's have been used for, for over 20 years.  It is also contrary to the excuses that they have said to CONGRESS to justify the need for ETF's.
So, please explain to me why the ETF's are this high, or why the cost of the phones are this high, when they were never meant to be used like this???????

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Why is a Verizon contract 2 years when a phone won't even last that long?

I have owned 3 different Motorola Droid phones. With Each phone I have had multiple replacements during the 2 year contract due to malfunction. I get a replacement and it has the same problem as the phone it's replacing, this is ridiculous. My first was the Motorola Droid when they first came out. I replaced it 9 times in the first year....Verizon kept giving me certified used phones that had the same problem. Simply means, they didn't know what the problem was and couldn't fix it...Here you go, have another broken phone. My current phone is the Droid Maxx HD. Phone was right at the warranty expiration and started freezing up and shutting down on it's own. Went to a dealer and arranged for a replacement. I get the replacement, charge it, activate it and that same day took it to the dealer because it was doing the same thing. They replaced it. The phone I have now is doing the same thing. My contract expires in November, I'm going to a simple phone or to Sprint, T-Mobile or AT&T....$150 a month for service and I can't even get a phone that works. On top of that, I work in a hospital, I barely get a signal here and most of the time only get 2 or 3 bars...Think it's time to move on

I agree.  I did have better luck with my maxx razer.  About 7 months ago the screen died after I had had it less than a yr.  The Verizon store I went to was great about sending me a replacement at no cost.  Of course no new phones since Droid had moved on to newer models so I got the same model from the refurbished warehouse--the island of misfit toys.  It had more bloatware and useless apps than the original most of which I was able to remove or disable updates. I sacrificed my unlimited data plan to get a Droid phone.  Now the battery is weak, the screen times out randomly, apps drop.  I went to the Verizon store to see what options I had to upgrade early to a Galaxy.  The sales staff pushes the new Edge plan--switch and upgrade at no cost and be able to upgrade every 6 months with no contract.  Sounds great-except the FULL retail price of the phone you get is divided and tacked onto your monthly service plan bill and if you try to upgrade at 6months (or even a yr.) your phone is not "paid off".  They will not extend existing contracts only offer Edge, waiting until I'm due for upgrade in Nov., or pay full price for another phone.  I've had Verizon for almost 20 yrs. but I'm shopping other carriers that have comparable plans at lower prices and also shopping on line to just get the new phone now and switch---it would be cheaper even with verizon's ETF.

  • What are the terms of a two year contract?

I am trying to get information for my mother so she can start me on a plan, and I wanted to know a few things. When on a two year contract do you get charged fee's if you don't pay your bill right away? Or does your phone just turn off and stays off until you can pay your bill?
I also wanted to know how you pay a two year contract bill. Is it like $50 dollars a month? What are the rates?
Thank you for your help and time

The late fee is $5.  No your phone won't get cut off right away. If you do it too many times it might. Why are you already thinking about not paying a bill BEFORE you even have service?
HOW do you pay? You can mail the payment in, pay it online, pay it pay phone or go to a Verizon store.
$50 a month? HA! Your cost will depend on what you want.
If you wan to know the rates go the the home page of the site.

  • Unlocking a phone after 2 year contract?

Just finished 2 years on my latest contract, this is my 2nd 2 year contract with at&t and I am officially never going to use AT&T again..problem is now i'm stuck with an iphone that's the equivalent to an itouch just with an antenna. I've since switched over to another carrier but wanted to bring Iphone 4 along with me but since the phone is carrier locked i'm stuck and even through the usual unlocking channels (unauthorized) I can't due to the baseband update for 5.0.1 I know the phone is locked to AT&T  and all but should we as consumers not get an option to carrier unlock once our contracts are up? I mean seriously otherwise there's no point to even buying an iphone in the first place if you'll just continue to be stuck with at&t's inferior service. I'm in the U.S. and I know if I were in the uk I could pay to have it unlocked legally..why can't we get this here in the states? Had I purchased this phone unlocked in the first place I could justify the cost of the phone at it's unlocked price with the savings my new carrier offers, but with at&t my bill is twice as much and my phone is a slave to their service exclusively..it's like buying an xbox that once you xbox live contract is up you can't use anymore..apple got their money I don't understand the issue with allowing us to unrestrict our phones once we've served our jail sentence (that's how bad my service with at&t has been).

AT&T will not unlock your phone for any reason. There is no law or regulation requiring them to do so. If you're unhappy about it, call your congressman.
Sorry, that's just the way it is.

  • IPhone 6 trade-in scam now locked into 2 year contract

Does anyone know were I can file an official complaint with Verizon?  I can't believe the run around I'm getting with Verizon.  I spoke to a customer service rep back on October 18th about the iPhone6 trade-in program.  I was told that I qualify for the trade-in and that after signing up for a new 2-year contract they would initially charge me $200 for the new iPhone 6 but as long as I return my iPhone 6 by December 10th I would be given a Verizon credit of $200,  I even asked during the conversation with customer service to verify that I would definitely be getting the $200 back in credit and she'd confirmed that.
Couple of weeks later I receive my new iPhone 6 but no return instructions or pre-printed label to return my iPhone 4.  When I called customer service today they told me I missed the deadline by 3 days and that I don't qualify for the promo???  How can that be when I was guaranteed by the customer service rep that I did qualify and that there would be no issues.  When I asked to speak to a supervisor and told him to check the recording of the phone conversation I had with customer service back on the 18th he told me that what customer service tells it's customers isn't legal binding and she was wrong to tell me I qualify for the promo.  So because of her mis-information I know locked into a new 2-year contract that I can't get out of and I'm paying $200 for a phone that I thought would be free.  I can't believe Verizon would treat their customers this way.  Are they telling me that I can't trust anything a customer service rep tells me because it's not legally binding?  Well know I'm legally bound to a 2year contract.  Thanks a lot Verizon!
You better believe I will be telling all of my friends, family and co-workers about how Verizon treats their customers and I will be pushing them to switch to another carrier that actually treats their customers with respect and doesn't trick them into 2-year contracts like they did to me.

I understand you are upset about not getting your $200, but seriously they tricked you into signing a 2-year contract?! REALLY?! You made your own decision to buy the phone with Verizon, things can change the day after they tell you something it's how ALL CELL PHONE CARRIERS are!! So even if you do switch <<Comment removed >>  , the other carrier will most likely do the same thing. You aren't entitled as a person or customer to every little thing Verizon does, some things you just won't qualify for <<Comments removed >>  .There will be other promotions going on you could qualify for. Everybody makes mistakes, it shows we are human, so be mad at that rep all you want she made a mistake you don't know if she was new or not, what if you were her first call customer? Why do people not think about this?!  <<Comment removed >>

  • Employee Discount without 2 year Contract

I came to Verizon from ATT, where I had Costco Employee discount.I came to Verizon with my paid phones, signed up on Share plan and same employee discount to apply. After 2 months they removed employee discount because I'm not on 2 years contract. I wonder where does it say that on Verizon website?

If that's true it's new to me. You do realize 15 GB is $100 now not $110. I'd get that changed. You do get a $25 discount for each line off contract that's why they are $15 instead of $40. You still should be getting the work discount. Unless they've changed policy or something. Anyway I'd keep the off contract discount instead of being on contract and getting the work discount if you have to choose.

  • What happens after the 2 year contract ?

can we get the phone unlocked ?
if we can not get the phone un locked why 2 years contract then ?

This is a good question for AT&T.
A 2 year contract was required for the first generation iPhone even though the first generation iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T in the traditional way. Since the first generation iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T in the traditional way, this means you qualified for upgrade or subsidized pricing on any new phone at any time during the contract period, and you could have done so without a penalty for not fulfilling your existing contract for the first generation iPhone because it was not subsidized by AT&T.
The required contract term and if AT&T will unlock a carrier locked phone are not related to each other. AT&T has unlocked some carrier locked phones for subscribers when requested during the contract term, or when the contract expires, but AT&T is not obligated to do so by U.S. law.

  • 2 year contract.

I have contacted Comcast and gone to the service center on multiple occasions, with no results.I signed up for your 2 year price guarantee and was told that I would receive a 2 year contract via email.  What must one do? I have tried everything I can do to no avail. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with that.  I did the same thing only to find that they tried to raise my rate after one year.  Comcast claimed I agreed to a contract for 2 years of service but there was no rate guarantee for 2 years.  Of course I called and complained and was able to get my originally quoted rate extened for the 2nd year but why should I have had to do that to receive what I was told I would receive when I signed on?  Just an example of how they try and get you and a lesson to watch your bill carefully.

  • Unlocking after 2 year contract

Is this possible? After the 2 year contract ends will Apple or AT&T unlock the phone so it could be used on another carrier if you don't want to renew the contract?

This was a fairly recent change with O2 in the UK after Apple's exclusive with O2 in the UK expired late last fall and additional official carriers for the iPhone became available for the iPhone in the UK.
There is only one official carrier for the iPhone in the U.S. at the present time, and that is AT&T. The only other GSM carrier in the U.S. that comes anywhere close to AT&T in terms of network coverage and number of subscribers is T-Mobile, and T-Mobile's 3G network in the U.S. is not compatible with the iPhone, at least their 3G network is not compatible with the 3G and 3GS.

  • Buying a used iPhone 3G, is 2-year contract still required?

Can I get the AT&T plan without the 2-year commitment since the original owner took care of the subsidies?

    You're welcome.
A two year contract is not required because you MIGHT want to upgrade your phone - that has absolutely nothing to do with the two year contract requirement for the iPhone whatsoever.
The first generation iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T in the traditional way, but a two year contract was required. A two year contract is required with the iPhone 3G also regardless if an existing subscriber qualifies for upgrade or subsidized pricing with a new phone, and for new subscribers who purchased a used first generation iPhone or a used iPhone 3G.
Most first generation iPhone owners qualified for upgrade or subsidized pricing with the iPhone 3G a year or within a year of the two year contract. There was no penalty when doing so, and the new two year contract for the iPhone 3G replaced the existing contract that was not completed. This was because the first generation iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T in the traditional way.
If Apple releases the 3rd generation iPhone next summer, I won't qualify for upgrade pricing on a new phone at that time, including for the 3rd generation iPhone, but you would at that time if you activate a used iPhone 3G as a new subscriber since AT&T did not give you a subsidy for the iPhone 3G when becoming a subscriber.
That is why I threw that in there.
It is part of the exclusive contract between Apple and AT&T that a two year contract is required for the iPhone.

  • UPGRADE PARTY! ***TWO YEAR CONTRACTS ONLY***

Now we all know we are SUPER PSYCHED for this new iPhone 4. FINALLY, VERIZON. YOU SHOULDA HOPPED ON THAT BOAT WHEN IT WAS IN DOCK FOR YOU.(You know we had the opportunity to have the iPhone first, right?) Anywayssss, the ones that are happy are the ones that have upgrades. For those that have invested in Androids and phones that have released since last May, but would rather have an iPhone, you're in bad shape (like me). We have signed a two year contract, with no way of getting out of paying a full ridiculous price for another phone. Should Verizon give free upgrades? Anyone else agree? What do you think?
Note: I'm not a fan of haters.

Well what aggravates me is that they are being wishy washy on allowing annual upgrades...which is a legitimate upgrade that is currently on our account.  Other rumors are that the annual upgrade will magically disappear on the 16th.
So why all of a sudden can we not use an upgrade that we rightfully earned (if this is the case).  And if its not the case and we can use it, then please have your website reflect this when we check eligibility for the iPhone...especially when it shows us eligible for any other phone on the site at a discounted upgrade price.
Treat your loyal customers well....give us what we've rightfully earned.

  • Verizon website shows $599.99 for 2 year contract galaxy tab, but $499.99 for retail & no contract?

Shouldn't the cost be less with a contract than without?

I would like to know the correct 2 year contract price. I called VW but they used the website also and couldn't tell me.
I do not believe there is a discounted purchase price on tablet devices for signing a long term contract.  That is why on the website they are, by default listed with a month-to-month term.
In other words, you must purchase the device at full price and then can purchase the service to utilize it on the Verizon network.

  • Can I buy an Iphone 5s in-store discounted on a new 2 year contract?

I have my upgrade on September 30th, but I do not want to wait until October 28th for it to be shipped. Will I be able to walk into the apple store and buy an Iphone 5s on a new 2-year contract?
         Thanks, KLynn24

The Apple Store is really the best place to do your upgrade. If you're coming over from something other than an iPhone, they can transfer your contacts for you. You'll learn about the new phone, they'll help you understand iCloud and why it's a good idea to use it, and something about how it works. And you'll walk out, not just with a new phone, but a better understanding of how you want to use it.
