Offline apps
I'm just looking to purchase an ipad for the family. I don't really want the expense of a 3G as it will mainly be used in the home. However, I would like download apps that the kids could use on the go/on holiday etc, are there many available that can be used offline? Where could i find out which apps would work offline?
thanks
If you ask a question in a civilized way, you'll get a civilized answer. Your original post, however, was mostly attitude.
Also note that many apps that list Internet connection requirement, will work perfectly well without an Internet, only some functionality that you may not even care for, may be missing.
Anyway, enjoy.

HTML 5 Offline App Creation for Product walkwalkthrough Demo
Hi,
Can we create offline App by using HTML 5, CSS, Java Scipt. But this app should be offline controll key.
Please see this link: http://vmwarewalkthroughs.com/VDS/
The folder structure of this page is
config, theme, www and offline index file and preview index.html file.
any content and images related changes has been done in config folder, theme ralated changes has been done in theme folder, www folder is the main template.
Can you please let me know, how it will be built initially, i mean what knowledge should be for this. I have not finding a proper way to built this but this app folder contain html, css, js files.

Out of curiosity. What is it you can do with JS that cannot be done with an applet and an active server (e.g. something that can run PHP, JSP, ASP..)?We require the app to run completely offline (or rather, the client does) (i.e.) no Internet connection. We have tried giving them an install with a portable apache and PHP, which has worked in the past but not for this client. So we were attempting to use HTML 5 for storing data offline, but the lack of support for offline caching in the Java Plug-in is the only thing holding us back, I guess we'll just have to wait for Sun to catch up :) -
Hi all
I've been tasked to find a way to create a strictly offline
app, that still tracks a user's progress through the app, even
after they turn it off and back on again.
There's 2 issues that I can see already, and I'm not sure
what's the best solution for either.
1) Interacting with a local, offline database, which I
suppose is doable, but I can see issues here with Flash's security
pop ups. Is there a way around these? Particularly if you're
offline?
2) Flash doesn't allow you to write data to file at all,
correct? It never did in the past, but I'm not sure if it does in
CS3 (Even if it does, I can still see security issues with this as
well).
What about Adobe Air, does this require online content, or
can you track things locally with it offline?
Any help is always appreciated.
Thanks again
ChrisYou in theory are able to use old versions of flash and
actionscript to publish to AIR, but I have yet to see an actual
example of someone doing it. Plus, I believe, if you publish to AIR
using Flash CS3, you only have the option of using AS3 (it doesn't
give you an option) -
Wikipedia Offline App with in-page search
The title pretty much says it all. I've carefully searched the "App Store" for an iPhone App that would allow access the entire database of Wikipedia in offline mode. I've found three apps that meet those requirements: Encyclopedia, AllofWiki and Wikipedia Offline.
The thing is I'm an inveterate "in-page search" junkie and, although this does seem to be an ubiquitous functionality among "online" Wikipedia apps (like WikiLookup), I haven't been able to confirm if any of the three "offline" apps mentioned above support "in-page search". Would very much appreciate if someone could shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance.Find Option
When you use Find, you can now choose whether to search for text that either contains or starts with the word or phrase you type in the search field. Click the magnifying glass in the Find search field to switch between the two options.

when the android phone is turned off, and then back on again, any desk top icon or bookmark of an web page with a manifest will not work when in airplane mode. You must at least make an attempt to turn on wifi, even an unsuccessful attempt to find a wifi connection will do. Then when you use the book mark or the desktop icon, it will work. I have a series of phones which only have internect connection - no phone company tower connection SAMSUNG-SGH-1997 firmware version 2.2.1 kernel verions 2.6.32.9 FROYO.UCKH1. Looking for a chat app to use offline in the same network
Hi
I want an offline app for my customers to download and use in our wireless network.
This app shouldn't go online.
Simply customers device will choose a nickname.
With this nickname he/she will be chatting with people in same network.
Preferably it will be a simple chatroom for everyone.
There are so many chat apps. All talking to world. I want it just inside the hotel complex.
Probably there should be a server side of this app (guessing)
All your help is much appreciated.
You might just let me know a paid, chat server, customisable, running on both android or ios.
Probably a browser adress will be given to customers, than they log in and chat from there?Flex has a history manager (Flex 2) and deep linking feature

I am looking for offline apps for the iPad mini that will let me access my information when I am out shopping.
I want to organize my recipes and home decor information in a very portable way so when I unexpectedly come across interesting items I can
- in the case of food, see what other ingredients I need to make a recipe
- in the case of home decor, have measurements and colours to evaluate the fit
I downloaded springpad but my recipes are on their server.
I downloaded Home Design I cannot see how I can add photos and ha curate colour swatches.
Does anyone know of a good app?
ThanksI did as much research as I could before downloading Springpad and Home Design but was not able to adequately assess these apps to see that they do not meet my needs.
I would like to hear if someone has successfully found and used an offline app.
I may just end up using Pages. -
HI, I am new to all of this, just purchased an IPhone4 and I want to download some paid apps for solitaire type games but I want to play these games offline not online. I downloaded solitaire game but it can only be played online. Are there offline apps a person can play without racking up the G's on our connection. Thanks
Any game that would require Game Center, yes, though with most of those you can just opt out of using Game Center and then the game won't need a connection. Some games may require an Internet connection directly, not for Game Center, but paid or free, in and of itself, won't matter. If in doubt, check with the game developer about the need for a network connection.

Server and client version for configuring/developing offline kapsel apps
Hi all.
I am planning to develop an offline Kapsel app.
I have two questions.
Q1.I have installed SP05 version for SMP server and SP06 version as SMP client. Is this configuration sufficient to begin with?
Q2. Is a delta token enabled SAP ABAP service mandatory for developing an offline app?
Need your help on this.
Thanks.Hi Daniel Van Leeuwen ,Jitendra Kansal
I am using SAP Netweaver Gateway services instead of Integration Gateway.
I am now able to read the data when online, but get an error when I try to open the Offline store.
Does this have to do anything with the Netweaver Gateway?
The server log is as below.

New OS Needs ALL Updates, Must Install Offline
I'm new to working in this field and I have just been assigned the task of collecting all updates for Windows 7/2008 R2 into a singular file so that every time we install a fresh OS, we can apply these updates offline. As you can imagine, for security
purposes the new OS is to remain offline indefinitely and no third party apps are allowed. I've found a WSUS Offline app, but since it's not from Microsoft or DISA it's no good. I have easy access to all 300+ updates via the DISA/DoD Repository, but
surely there is a faster way than: click link, find correct file, download file, repeat until eyes roll back into head and drool collects on the floor. I'm sure I'm not the first person in the world who has had to do this, any suggestions for getting about
half a decade of updates in a less mind-numbing way?The idea is that we have hypothetically lost all of our backup images and have nothing from which to make an image. If you-know-what hit the fan and we had to rebuild a system from scratch, we would have yet another form of redundancy. Others are working
on finding things like Java and Adobe Flash, as well as our more unique programs for the same purpose, but since Microsoft updates require you have everything from the past to work I can't just find the newest installer and call it a day. Everything listed
under "Installed Updates" I need to find. -
I'm using Adobe Air 3 for IOS offline app, and I want to implement a download updates (html files + js,css) feature from within the application. The files would be displayed in a StageWebView component.
Since Apple doesn't allow saving files inside the installation directory, I must use ApplicationStorageDirectory instead to download files into.
I want those download html files to link to .js / .css files already installed within the main application directory (e.g. at myApp.app).
The reason for that is I want to minimize the number of the downloaded (shared) files as much as possible. Is this possible?
Thank you.I think this doesn't work in StageWebView:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WSfffb011ac560372f7e64a7f12cd2dd1867-8000.html#WS901 d38e593cd1bac354f4f7b12e260e3e67-8000
"Note: Links in a StageWebView instance cannot open URLs that use a custom URI scheme."
So I can't for example do this:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="app:/CSS/Templates.css" type="text/css" media="screen, mobile" title="main" charset="utf-8">
What I need is something like the following:
Inside ApplicationStoarageDirectory (/Library/Application Support/):
test.html
I need it to link to a css file located inside ApplicationDirectory (installation directory), something like:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../../MyApp.app/CSS/Templates.css" type="text/css" media="screen, mobile" title="main" charset="utf-8"> -

I'd like to create a quiz using FormsCentral. At the end of the multiple choice quiz I'd like the user to be given a score out of 10. Once this is prepared I'd like to add this into an offline app being created for iPad using InDesign and DPS. 10 iPads will be used at an exhibition for kids to learn about Civil Engineering. They wil be offline so all content will need to be sourced locally on the iPad. Is this possible and a viable and appropriate way to achieve this?
Hi,
FormsCentral doesn't seem like a good fit for use in an offline app. I would suggest posting your question to the DPS forum to see if anyone else has tried to publish something with similar behavior.

Offline applications for balckberry
Hi
Can the offline apps be developed for blackberry. As MI Client can process requests and produce the HTML for HTTP requets through PDA's or Desktop browsers. Will the MI Client(in offline mode) on blacberry be able to run an application..
as such WAP Gateway that generates WML/compressed WML is only relevant in case of Online apps.
Thanks
Harsh ChauhanHi Harsh,
AFAIK, You can't install MI on Bleckbary device, hance you can't develop AWT , at least MI AWT application there.
You can talk about MI as a Tomcat 3.2 HTTM server, and then of course it can make all sort of content, but pay attention that MI should be installed localy on device.
Best Regards,
Victor.
