Hi,
I think the error is clear:
BR0253W errno 13: Permission denied
The user that is executing BRBACKUP does not have authorizations to read/write on the mentioned directory:
D:\oracle\MBS\102\database
1) are you running brbackup at the command line
2) what user is executing it
3) does this user have authorizations on the mentioned directory

How to Restore Full Offiline Backup using BRTOOLS from a Tape

Dear all,
I want to recover PRD Full Offline Backup using BRTOOLS from a tape in a new machine.
I have Install SAP in the new machine.
Now I want to restore the PRD Full Offiline Backup taken through BRTOOLs in tape in the new machine.
1. I have shutdown the SAP.
2. I have shutdown the database Oracle 10g.
3. I have inserted the backup tape
4. Through user ORASID I have executed BRTOOLS
I got the following options: -
BRTools main menu
1 = Instance management
2 - Space management
3 - Segment management
4 - Backup and database copy
5 - Restore and recovery
6 - Check and verification
7 - Database statistics
8 - Additional functions
9 - Exit program
I selected Option 5 Restore and recovery
And got the Following Options

1 = Complete database recovery
2 - Database point-in-time recovery
3 - Tablespace point-in-time recovery
4 - Whole database reset
5 - Restore of individual backup files
6 - Restore and application of archivelog files
7 - Disaster recovery
8 - Reset program status
1. Now which option do I need to select and then what all other options do I need to select.
2. Whether the database should be a mount state or shutdown ?

Oracle offline backup with brtools errors BR0278E BR0279E

Hi, all
I have problem with offline backup.
For backup i use mtx and scripts mount_tape.sh and dismount_tape.sh
script mount_tape.sh loading media tapes in robot head
script dismount_tape.sh unloading media tapes
All online backups working with this scripts and perform successfully
I can manually connect to server r2 using rsh. (rsh r2)
All online backups finished without errors.
What could be my problem? Help please.

Configure Offline Backup using db13

Hey Experts,
I am new to db2. Currently the database is running in nolog mode. So only offline backup can be taken. But Offline backup cannot be scheduled using db13 for db2.
I need help to change the parameters in db2.Currently the databse is in no log mode.I will have to change to a log mode to enable online backup. I would need a step by step guidance for that part.

As of SAP Netweaver 7.0 SP12 and SAP systems based on kernel 7.10, The DBA Planning Calendar backup job does no longer support offline backups. Any offline backup, which has already been scheduled, will automatically be converted into an online backup with the INCLUDE LOGS option.
It is always recommended to configure SAP Database to run in archive log mode.
When a log file is filled with records, the db2logmgr is called by the database to copy the log file into the directory of the db cfg parameter LOGARCHMETH1/2. The copied log file is the offline log. When all referenced pages have been written from the buffer pool(s) to disk, the online log file is ready for renaming in the log_dir directory. A copy remains as an offline log in the archive directory.
Log files that reside in the archive directory can be archived to storage with db2tapemgr.
The initial setting of the DB CFG parameters LOGARCHMETH1 (and, if necessary, LOGARCHMETH2) has to be changed after the installation to enable roll-forward recovery. To view the logging configuration of your database, call transaction ST04, choose Backup and Recovery → Logging Parameters or use
the following command:
db2 get db cfg for <dbsid>
To change the logging configuration to the productive logging mode you have to
issue the following command:
db2 .update db cfg for <dbsid> using LOGARCHMETH1 disk:<archive destination>.
After updating db2 database parameter for logarchiving , shutdown SAP and deactivate db2 to take offline backup.
If you do not enable archive log point in time recovery is not possible and you have to shutdown SAP and deactivate database everytime you take offline backup.

Offline backups using RMAN

Hi,
This is probably a dumb question, but I'm just starting off with RMAN (and RAC). Let me start with a bit of background to put things in context.
I have a 2 node cluster (11g)
We use bacula as our enterprise backup tool. A bacula agent runs on each machine to be backed up and copies files to be backed up to our backup server. From there, bacula writes the files to tape.
On our standalone database servers, the bacula agent runs a pre-backup job that executes a user-managed backup to write all the database files to an 'ok-to-backup' directory. The bacula agent then copies those files to the backup server.
The cluster is using ASM storage for datafiles (obviously), redo log files and archived redo logs.
With the move to RAC, a user-managed backup makes things a lot harder so I figured that using RMAN would both simplify the RAC backups and eventually give us the motivation to replace the user-managed backup scripts with RMAN on our standalone (non-clustered) database servers.
I expected RMAN to be 'cluster-aware', but when I issued the RMAN 'shutdown' command, it only shut down the instance on the local node. I assume 'startup' will only start the instance on the local node.
How do I configure RMAN to shutdown/startup all nodes of the cluster?

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with srvctl however I thought rman would be a bit more 'cluster aware'.
So, I presume you are saying that I should issue the srvctl command to shut down and then mount the database before I start rman and then use it again to bounce the database after rman is complete.

Offline Backup in SQL Database using DB13

Hi experts,
I am new to MSSQL database.
We are using ECC 6 with MSSQL 2005. In DB13 we get the following options.
Full Database backup
Diff DB backup
Transaction Log Backup
Check DB consistency
We do not have the option to take a offline backup from DB13.
My question is, weather it is possible to take a offline backup in MSSQL.
If yes could please give me the procedure for doing a offline backup using DB13.

Lol, No by definition SAP and SQL would need to be down to take that type of file backup.
Offline backups are not a supported recovery method.
Online backups will allow for PIT or full recovery.
Offline backups will not be report in SQL or SAP as you haven't backup the database - rather just the files.

Online backup via BRTOOLS

Hi there!
I am planning to implement an online backup using brtools. When I did the testing, I noticed an error that prevents me from completing the backup. Hope anybody can help me. It seems that there is an error with the compress command but I cant seem to understand why. Below is the entire log of my backup. Btw, Im using ECC6 and Oracle Database 10g.

Thank you for the quick reply. However, I have another thing to bring up. I created an exact replica of this instance to a separate server for my online backup testing. I used mksysb for my rootvg and created a backup of my datavg and restored it to the new server. To my surprise, my online backup worked. Im currently running it so that I can upload the log in this thread. I checked on the version of the brtools and they are both of the same level. Also, I forgot to mention that I've been using offline backup via brtools since last year. It was only now that Im trying to implement an online backup. Would this problem still be caused by brarchive patch 18?

RMAN backup uses more space than actual DB size

Yesterday, we have configured the RMAN backup for an RAC db in HP-UX. The total DB size is 82GB
but the RMAN took around 250G space for backup and the backup failed. The oracle db is 10.2.0.1.

Offline backup failing when scheduled using DB13

Hi,
We have done our backup schedule of our BI 7 system running on AIX 5.3 and Oracle 10.2 using DB13.The activities like online backup and datbase check is executing correctly but offline backup is failing with status unknown.
If i check in sm37 for the DBA job offline backup is showing status completed successfully but in brbackup logs there is no log for the offline backup activity.
Kindly provide your suggestion on how i can resolve this issue.

When I trigger the backup directly from brtools offline backup is happening successfully.The issue is happening only for the db13 scheduled offline backup.The same thing happened for Update statistics but check db is executed.
So what has to be checked in backint settings pls provide you suggestion.

Why should we use BRTOOLS for oracle data backup?

Any one of you have any idea on specific advantages with using BRTOOLS for backup over using only Oracle RMAN?
Are there any advantages using brbackup in databackups which we do not get with RMAN alone?

i seriously doubt you want to use wsdl4j unless you are doing really advanced webservice work. assuming you are developing this webservice from scratch, you basically want to use JAXWS: define an appropriate interface and your value classes, and let JAXWS do the rest. metro is the JAXWS implementation included in the oracle jdk and it has great tutorials and reference documentation online. i'd suggest you start here: http://metro.java.net/getting-started/

Brtools not shutting down automatically during offline backup

At our work place in Development system we are getting following issue.
Brtools not shutting down SAP after triggering the Offline backup.
In brtools it's howing database shutting down statement for long time.......... but i'ts not doing .
Keep on showing that ......please give me any solution for that.
It's happenning since last 2 sundays{ Offline backup}. Previously it was working fine.
And remaining systems working fine .
SAP version is ; ECC 6.0, AIX 5.3 & data base 10g.
We are usinfg Veritas netbackup tool.

I note that you indicate a Snow Leopard OS which if it is the case, it cannot be a 'new' MBP. I assume that this may be an older MBP that is new to you.

Error during offline backup thru DB13 on AIX.

Now since 3 weeks i am unable to fire a offline backup on my PRD server, i am able to take a successful online backup on the same server.
We are using Tivoli backup solution for backups, but the backups are fired using tx-code: DB13. When i check the detailed logs for the error i see the below lines.

And also i have checked with the permissions as suggested by Mishra, i dont see a great difference among the file permissions.
Can you be more precise about which files have the s-bit in the bin and lib directories.I see a lot of files and i did verify to an extent and saw that there are no changes in the file permissions, yet again i might have missed on few things.
I have also logged in as sid<adm> user and ran br stats which was completed successfully and i have also logged into SQL and ran few select queries, which fetch me the results.
I request all to kindly further help me on this.

Offline Backup from DB13 is not Working

Hello all,
When I take backup from Brtools from OS level then offline backup is
goes fine but from scheduling offline backup from DB its shows No
action log found for this job. in job log its gives following error:
Job started
Step 001 started (program RSDBAJOB, variant &0000000000420, user ID
BASIS)
Execute logical command BRBACKUP On host athomeprd
Parameters:-u / -jid ALLOF20071121233000 -c force -t offline_force -m
all -p initRT2.sap
Job finished
I change parameter backup-type as offline_force in init<SID>.sap file
But problem is same.
Pls help.

I got the solution from SAP. My patch are not updated I update the patches and now its working very fine.
