Offline clips question

I have a project that I am working on and I have two scratch disks I am working with. I have taken the clips from the one external drive, that I no longer want to use as a scratch disk, and transferred the capture scratch folder into the capture scratch folder on the one scratch disk I want to primarily use. My question is, how do I reconnect all the now offline clips in the time line?

Use te File>Reconnect function and point the clips at the correct piece of media.

  • Using You Tube video clips question:

After importing several clips from You Tube (of varying quality) to incorporate into an editing project, the clips look okay and play  full screen, in the "source" window, but when I put them in the timeline and play them in the "program" window, they are thumbnail size.  Why does this happen? I tried converting...but still no luck.

The short answer here is, don't.  (Assuming that if it was yours in the first place, you'd have the original and not have to use the upload.)
And Bill, you should know better than to help someone violate copyright law.
yeah, i beg to differ on this. i have 100s of videos on youtube i did back when it first started before i saved my finished projects... (from 2005-2008 i would just record, edit, post, delete, because it was just random junk of me hanging out with friends, or just v-logging about stuff i needed to blow steam about) so one of these days i'll have to go through and download them and burn them for archives. Never say never

  • Copying Metadata to Offline Clips

    Hi,
I thought I was going to edit my project using my ProRes footage, so logged - with extensive notes - information right into the bin with the media. I've got lots of information in the description coloumn, Angle, Shot/Take, Scene/ Comment A, etc.
Now I've created offline media to edit with (instead of the ProRes) and none of my notes are available on the offline versions.
How can I copy all that metadata from the ProRes clips to my offline clips?
    Please,
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Shane,
    Thanks for writing.
    >> How did you log right into a bin with media?
As I watched the footage (my ProRes footage) I logged - meaning took extensive notes - right into all the useful columns for information to the right of each video file; in the media bin / browser. Maybe my terminology is incorrect. I hope you understand.
    >> What media?
My ProRes media; that I was going to edit with. It's the first project where I took notes in the software and not on paper. So, all my logging info is connected to the ProRes clips - in the browser.
    >> Did you have the full res media and you were logging with that.?
    Yes.
    >> And then you say you " created offline media..."  HOW?
In MPEG Streamclip - which is why I've got this problem with no clear solution; I guess!
    >> You must have done it outside of FCP.       You can't just transfer metadata.  If you logged footage inside FCP, and you want that metadata to carry over to offline media, you need to make that offline media INSIDE of FCP...using the MEDIA MANAGER and the RECOMPRESS option.
So, if I had converted my ProRes to PAL in MEDIA MANAGER, using the RECOMPRESS option, all my metadata would carry across to my offline copies? Is that correct? Maybe it's worth the few hours to do it that way, then.
    Best,
    Matt

  • Reconnect offline clips

I used the tagging of PSE5 to tag my video clips (same as photos). I also used the move/copy method to store the material (avi files) offline on to DVD's. Due to a glitch in the PSE6 ability to recognize offline files from PSE5 I am bringing all my material back online to external hard drives. Everything has gone fine. I've just about filled up my first 750GB hard drive from the offline material.
My issue at this point is I have hit some DVD's that the Move option under File dropdown in PSE5 doesn't recognize the DVD's I put in. This may be a DVD cataloging issue. My computer can see the files in the DVD, so there is no problem for the computer to deal with the files. It is just that PSE5 can't see the files for restoring them to an online location. I'm looking for suggestions on alternatives to bring this material on line and still retain the tags I have for them and have PSE5 recognize they are online.
    TIA,

    Apple Discussion- reconnecting offline clips
    Hi Tom
I have all the media connected except the voiceover. I even find the voiceover clips and I drag them into the browser then I try to reconnect them without luck. I can manually drag one at a time from the browser to the time line to replace those off lines, so I just have to work around it. The reason why I move them around at the first place? Because I need the space in my internal drives for a new project, therefore I want to save the project (including the medias) in my external drive for future editing. Apparently, I am not smart enough to handle it.
    Thank you

  • Red offline clips

i'm working inside color and for some reason some of the clips have the 'offline' red mark. I know they aren't and they actually do show up in the viewer, but i wonder if this is some other type of warning?
    thanks
while i'm here i'll ask another.. is it possible to attach a 'custom shape' mask to a motion path? The 'use tracker' feature won't highlight when you create your own mask even though i've already tracked the path.
    double thanks
    aa

I don't have an answer for your offline clip problem.
But to attach a user shape to a motion tracker, you need to first attach the shape to your secondary, then use the secondary to assign the motion tracker.
More information can be found in the Color Users Manual, starting on page 225.

  • Syncing offline clips

I am working on a project where i created two offline clips and used these dummy tracks to offline a show. I am now trying to connect these offline clips to the real clips. FCP will not let me do it. It says I have the wrong reel number and the clip has the wrong length.
I am using pro res and it will not even allow a small edit reconnect to the real clip. I physically edited the clips on v2 into the show. You would think it would at least let me connect these clips to the original pro res clips at the time code laid down in the clip which is well within these boundaries.
Any love out there for this problem?

OK, I think you are going to need to find someone else to help with this because I am totally lost:

The original clips are being recorded with an Aja Kipro on to their own removable drives using apple prores 422LT.
    OK
I ingested the V1& G2clips into FCP by importing them an then overwriting the offline clip dummy V1 > & V2 tracks. Both my Kipros have the same TC and 422 LT format.
OK, this is where you lose me. It is not clear to me what you mean by this. Do you mean overwriting in the sense of overwriting media on the drives, or overwriting in the sense of using the overwrite command to place a clip on the timeline? If you have imported the media, and are placing it in the timeline, what are you trying to reconnect?
I have tried to reconnect the media but to no avail because of the errors above.
Sorry, this is not clear to me what this means. I am not sure that you can use "offline clips" in the way you are attempting to use them, but as I say, this is new territory for me.
My mac is a 10.64 2.53GHz intel, FCP is #7, Quicktime is 10.0.
    Useful, helpful information.
I am on a new Mac laptop and am using automator to set the in's, the outs and perform the actual edits on the offline clips I created by using the "create a new offline clip" under the "new-create new offline clip" in the file menu.
Ok, does this mean you have set up an automator function to set dummy clips into a timeline so that when the actual media is acquired, you hope to reconnect to these dummy clips? Are you creating the timeline in advance of acquiring the actual media?
The weird thing is FCP 7 does not see the footage on the KiPro drives as video files even they are Apple 422LT. What is up with that?
    1) Check the files at the finder level on the KiPro drives. Do they have file extensions?
    2) If you drag a file from the drive to Quicktime 7 (which should be in your Utilities folder) does the video open? What does the Quicktime Movie Inspector Window say?
    3) You said earlier that you imported the clips into FCP. Do they show up in a bin? Can you click on one and type Command + 9 to the item properties and report what the window says (or if it is easier, post a screen shot)?
Sorry that I can't be of more help to you, I have never worked this way so am at a loss as to how to proceed.
Hopefully one of the experts that look at these post can help.

  • Color 1.5.3 offline clips

    Hi
This might be a really dumb question, but after I have rendered my graded clips in color and then create an XML (which I then opened in After Effects) Why is it when I go back to my color project file...
    1) doesn't even exist anymore? I had to find an archive copy and open that
    2) the archive copy when I open it, everything is offline.  All the clips are red and there is no preview of anything.
I've tried reconforming but when I do that, Color comes up with a message saying that only FCP XML and EDLs can be reconformed.  However when I first sent the file to Color it was definitely from FCP.
Is there some thing with Color that once I've rendered and exported out an EDL that everything becomes offline and I can't make anymore changes to it?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
    cheers
    Rach

OK...you are leaving out details.  HOW did you get the footage into Color in the first place?
The proper workflow for Color is as follows:
    - Edit in FCP
    - SEND TO Color
    - Grade and render
    - SEND TO FCP
    Another option...
    - Export self contained QT file in the ProRes format from your NLE
    - Export an EDL as well, so Color can chop up the single QT file into individual shots
    - Import EDL into Color...point to referenced QT file
    - Grade the footage...render.
    - Send to FCP.
Color is meant to work with FCP.

  • Offline Backup Question

    Hello Everyone,
I''m looking for some confirmation on what would happen in a certain situation regarding running an Offline (consistent) backup which is this:-
I'm running Oracle 10G on Windows 2003. The database holds 2 schemas used by a 3rd party application which runs on 3 client machines, connected to the DB server machine in a simple network. Every Sunday morning (2AM) we run an Offline backup of the whole database that is scheduled via OEM, obviously this stops the instance whilst the backup is run and then restarts it afterwards.
My question relates to what would happen with the initiation of the Offline backup if any of the client machines left a session/connection to the database open ??
Would the backup be delayed until all sessions/connections had timed out, or would it try to run as normal and then fail as it could not stop the instance due to the active sessions ??
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shaun.

If the backup runs shutdown immediate statement, all existing transactions are rolled back, and all existing sessions are closed. You can check the database alert.log for the exact shutdown statement that has been used.

  • Using Media Manager to Decompose offline clips only (Like Avid)

OK... Here's the scenario. I have a Timeline sequence lasting 10 mins. This timeline has been edited direclty from 20 x 1 hour clips from 20 x 1 hour tapes with timecode. I have stored the media on 2 external FW800 drives but one of the drives has failed leaving me with a timeline with half of the clips missing iy's media. The edit is at a pretty final stage and we need to re-dig the media but want to only re-dig that which is missing.
Using Media manager or any other software element is there a way of batch capturing only the short offline (decomposed) clips from the timeline without re-digising the whole of the 10 hours which is missing from the drives. Also., to make things more complicated, this has to be done automatically i.e. without re-editing the clips from the browser back into the timeline.
I would be most grateful for any help on this matter as this is the only thing that seperates Avid Media Composer from FCP as a proper media manager tool.
    Thanks!!!

haven't tried this but it may be worth some investigation.
try exporting an XML of your sequence and passing that to the director
on the director's FCP setup, import the xml, and in the Import XML... window uncheck the "Override with setting from XML" checkbox, and choose the approriate offline res that matches the directors media.
see if the resulting sequence will reconnect

  • Help Please! Offline Clips!

Ok here's my problem. I am using a clip of green screen footage that I have keyed out with two different backgrounds that I want to eventually layer on top of each other. Basically, it is the same clip on top of itself but with two different backgrounds. I can't keep them as is in the timeline because of the green screen effect. I got the clip with background 1 and exported it as a quicktime movie to my external hardrive. I then got the same clip, removed background 1 and inserted background 2 then did the same export process. I then imported the files back into fcp and they're fine for about ten minutes and then they turn white, as if they are offline. When I try to reconnect the media it says that they are online. Not only that, but they are unrenderable. I've tried this process many times and every time it's the same result.
Does anyone know what may be causing this problem and how to fix it?
    G5

Because it is a green screen clip, once I key it out anything I put under it will show up. It's basically a clip with a still image behind it. I want the same clip with two separate images behind it. If there is an easier way to do this then please let me know. I'm not really that advanced with the software.
I also get this error message when re-booting"
The movie file "help please-FIN-00000001" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly
The name of my sequence that I exported the files on is labeled "help please"
    Make any sense?

  • Working with offline clips

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSd79b3ca3b623cac9-5dacca1512743f7a833-80 00.html

    *****BUG*****
I'd like to re-linking to MTS files with CS6 Premier using MAC Mountain Lion. This becomes an issue when you are opening a project file sent to you by a collaborator and both of you have the same footage each computer but located on different drives. This requires re-linking the media to match the location on your drive.
    1. With the latest update of Mountain Lion, MAC now packages the AVCHD file structure into a single file called AVCHD (with a QuickTime logo).
    2. In a standard MAC finder, you can now open this file to reveal all your MTS clips as thumbnails viewable in QuickTime - nice for a quick look at your footage withou having to open it a separate app.
    3. You can also right click on the AVCHD file and "Show package contents". This gives you acces to the complete AVCHD file structure down to individual MTS files in the Stream folder.
    4. However, when you are within CS6 Premier and need to re-link a file on the timeline or media browser you are stymied by the AVCHD file.
    5. When you try to re-link using the Premier finder window (which looks a lot like a MAC finder window but with extra buttons) you see the AVCHD file. If you try to open it, you get a file type not supported. If you try to open the package (as described above) the only option you get is "Quick Look".
    6. Currently, the only work-around I'm aware of is to rename the AVCHD file in the MAC finder window to anything else. This breaks the connection to QuickTime and allows you access to the full directory structure (you also need to rename the BDMV file to anything else).
    7. Now you can re-link files from the Premier timeline since you can drill down to individual MTS files. However, because the AVCHD naming convention starts file names with 00000.MTS for every directory, you need some hint as to WHICH directory the file on the timeline comes from.
    8. Also, with this work-around, you have to manually re-link each file. Premier will not pickup other files in the path.
    9. I also experimented with renaming the directory back to AVCHD. This does restore the QuickTime icon but not the functionality. Apparently initial renaming breaks a fork that naming it back to AVCHD does not automatically restore. There is probably away to get the fork back, but I haven't found it yet.
    10. We updated from Snow Lepeord to latest Mountain Lion as part of our transition from Final Cut Studio 2 and FCP7. We liked the ability to view MTS clips natively in MAC finder. It wasn't until the re-linking requirement that we discovered this flaw.
I've reported this to Adobe support and they have confirmed the problem. They are researching it.
In my opinion, the programmers need to add file drill down capability to the Premier link window as the solution.
This problem has probably arisen due to Mountain Liion's latest update that packages the AVCHD directory. Premier hasn't caught up to that update.

  • Make offline clips problem with xsan

    Hi,
I have a problem with Final cut pro and Xsan.
    Mac Pro with Leopard
    Final cut pro 6
    Xsan 2
We have 7 Mac pro and Xsan 2. When we make offline the clips in final cut pro and select delete from disk, sometimes the QT files are deleted from Xsan volume but in FCP in the browser does not shows the clips as offline (with the red line in the clips). Sometimes, when we leave FCP and click on the desktop and
come back to FCP, makes the clips offline, but this annoying
    trick, does not always work.
    Thank you.

Were the clips imported from a camera? Try connecting the card and opening the camera import function?
