Offline Files (Background) Sync makes File Explorer and other programs responding slow
Hi TechNet,
I have a problem with Offline Files and
especially with VPN users.
For VPN users, the slow-link
policy is activated with a background
sync interval of one hour. But, when Offline Files is syncing, their File Explorer is hanging (not responding) by creating new files/folders, deleting files/folder, or rename files/folders. This happens only in their (redirected)UserData
folder or with other DFS shares which are cached locally. In other programs (Outlook or Office 2010) when they save data in the UserData folder exactly the same things happens (not responding).
This problem occurs in both the
internal network and via VPN, so bandwidth is
not the problem. When the sync is finished, everything is working fine again.
I've tested:
- Offline mode with scheduled background sync: problem occurs
- Online mode with manual sync: problem occurs
- Rebuild offline cache database: no effect
- Tested with fresh Windows 8(.1) installations and user profiles: problem occurs
- Monitoring SMB traffic with WireShark: no result
- Montoring Windows 8(.1) clients with procmon: no result
- Tested with full DFS paths: problem occurs
- Disable IPv6: problem occurs
- Disable Windows Search: problem occurs
- Browsing in the Offline Files folder (Sync Center -> Manage Offline Files -> View Offline Files) is very slow (with +- 200 files). This occurs also when Offline Files is not syncing.
Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem?

First, sorry for the late response, I have tested a few things for you:
Offline mode with background sync over a VPN connection: During scheduled sync File Explorer hangs. When bypass the cache by using a UNC path (State: Online) there is also a delay, but this is caused by bandwidth.
Online Mode with Manual Sync over a LAN connection: During sync File Explorer hangs in (redirected)UserData Folders (They are always available offline, maybe this is a problem?). With UNC paths, there is no delay…
The first folder/file is created slowly, but the second is fast.

How to close Internet Explorer and other programs running on Windows?
In order for Flash Player to be installed or updated, any programs that use Flash Player must be closed. This includes Internet Explorer or other browsers, instant messengers, Skype, etc.
These programs may be running in the background, not as visible windows, but need to be closed anyway.
To close such programs use the Windows Task Manager. To start Task Manager, take any of the following actions:
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
Once the Task Manager is running, select the Processes tab. On older Windows version you may need to click on the Process Name or Image Name header to sort the process names.
Now right-click on every process that the Flash Player installer needs to close (e.g. iexplore.exe), then select End Process.
It would be desirable if the Flash Player installer could perform that action by itself; I have therefore created an enhancement request. When I download iTunes, it takes over programs such as Internet Explorer such that when I double-click on the icons for these programs, I'm taken to iTunes as opposed to the program I selected. Also, my other programs are now associated with the iTunes icon as opposed to their own. I've been told that this is a file association issue. When I uninstall iTunes, the problem appears to resolve. When I reinstall iTunes it returns. Please help.

Getting an error when trying to go to windows explorer and other programs.
I am having trouble when trying to go to several programs like for instance the Windows explorer, recycle bin, etc. and getting this error: And there is only one program running!!
"There is not free enough memory to run this program. Exit one or more programs,and then try again."
minus the quotes of course!
I called Microsoft and they wanted $100.00 up front and $50-75.00 there after per hour to try and resolve this!
I called TrendMicro, thinking it might be a virus and it was not. They spent 3 hours with me on the phone trying to help me solve this, but they came up with nothing. And they DID NOT charge me anything for all this time and help over the phone. That is one hell of a company that can do that, while a money hunger company called Microsoft would!
If anyone know how or what I need to do to solve this, it is greatly appreciative on my end.

Thanks for answering this and trying to help me with this. I have been dealing with this problem for over 2 weeks and my bald head is getting thinner by the minute!!
The computer is a refurbished one from Toshiba after the main one, kept crashing and they decided to give me a refurbished, step down model. Been having trouble with this also and I fixed the problems it had myself up until this one. I am about a total wreck because of this, but here is the information you wanted!

I am also ticked, because Toshiba has put my working drive to D and the backup files on Drive C. This does not make any sense and why they did it, I do not know!

What setting will make sync make my iPhone and MacBook Pro contact cards alike? I've been having to key in changes to both devices because sync doesn't sync.
If you really are running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and iOS 6.1.3, you should be able to sync through iTunes, but in current releases you need to use a central contact service like iCloud.
Did you have it working and then not working, or have you never had it working?
Are you trying to use iTunes, iCloud, or something else? -
Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?
This happens with maybe 1 out of 5 files. These are files that have either an ."aa" extention, or or are libraries that icloud can see, but finder can't.Files beginning with a period are invisible and library files are system files. Spotlight cannot find either unless configured to do so (btw, this is not a Finder issue but a Spotlight issue.)
Get Spotlight to search system files (and more)
Enter the search term in the Finder window's search field.
Click the [+] button in the search bar to add a search option.
In the first drop down menu choose Other.
Choose “System Files” from the list that pops up (and check the box to place in drop down menu to avoid this step later,) click on the OK button.
Now back in the Finder choose Include from the second drop down menu. -

You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue. -
Images (actually graphics) loaded fine in the previous version of firefox, but now do not open in firefox 5. It is our business' website. it opens and looks fine in explorer and other browsers. However, please goto www.trinitystone.biz (using Firefox 5)and look at how the top menu bar has a black box surrounding it and the bottom menu also has this black bar. troubleshooting Addons is somewhat complex.....as from this side we do not know which addon may be causing the problem, so the
only recourse is to disable the types of addons that commonly cause problems in IE (for security and usablility reasons some older addons that you may have used previously with IE8/XP are no longer compatible with newer versions of IE that you are now using)....
The following instructions will stop your Toolbar and Browser Helper addons from loading in IE.
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab,
uncheck "enable third-party browser extensions".
close any open IE windows and restart IE for the changes to take effect.

Alternatively, your problem with keyboard input is most likely being caused by a form filling addon or a finger print reader

This stuff was originally used by a PollingChannel to directly monitor subscribe/unsubscribe commands issued by higher-level components in order to drive a count of active subscriptions, and from that, whether or not the channel needed to issue poll requests.
However, DataService, and then Consumer ended up managing this directly because they had better insight into when they considered themselves subscribed and they notify the PollingChannel of their state changes directly (mx_internally). When this was added, the underlying poll-sync responder machinery didn't go away, and it generally doesn't cause problems except in the case of a client disconnect without a preceding explicit unsubscribe. In this case the higher level component moves to an unsubscribed state when it disconnects (and lets the PollingChannel know) but because no unsubscribe command is sent by a poll-sync responder, the extra count it added never decrements and the channel continues to poll incorrectly.
