Offline Files Error
I have a project with media files that sometimes change length. Is there a way to disable the Offline Files error so that it just imports the new media files regardless of length, without reporting that error?
I'm asking because I'm trying to create an automated system where edits are automatically updated periodically throughout the day with the most current media available, but sometimes that media is a few frames longer or shorter, and I just want it to bring in the newest media keeping the current edit points in the project.
I don't think so. This would be an extremely dangerous feature. Think about how you could screw things up big time. As it is, it's amazing how people can really screw up their work with the tools that are already available.

After a fresh installation of Oracle Calendar 10.11 on a system running OS 10.4, trying to log into an account yields the following error message:
The folder "Oracle Calendar User Data" cannot be used to store your offline files (error: -35). Please specify a new folder.
The permissions for the folder in question are correct, and specifying an alternate folder yields the error again. This same problem happened on my old Powerbook as well. I am, however, able to connect using the web client, but there are times that I need the functionality of the full client.
I did a quick search for this on these forums but did not see any existing threads on the subject. Has anyone else experienced this before? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?Do you have norton anti-virus install on your system ?

Using Windows 8.1 Pro on Toshiba Satellite i7 Laptop with 8Gb Ram
After upgrade from Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 Pro, the Offline Files/CSC service refuses to start and gives the error message:
"Windows could not start the offline files service on local computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified"
Before the upgrade, offline files worked fine... how do I re-enable offline files?I had a similar issue - couldn't make any files available offline.
I found that the offline folder service would not start
This was because the CSC permission were totally screwed. I had to take ownership of each folder and file, one by one, then grant everyone full access.
then delete the full contents of the CSC folder
format the CSC database using the registry fix then reboot
in control panel, disable the offline files, reboot, then re-enable. and now its working :)
2hrs to resolve this, with grateful thanks to this thread and some others.

Win7 Offline Files sync error after upgrade to Lion Server 10.7.2
Symptom: client is a Win7 laptop, the server is Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion Server with SMB and AFP shares. Win7 Offline Files stopped working after I upgraded Snow Leopard (non-server version) to Lion Server 10.7.2. After updating to 10.7.3, the problem persists. When syncing, it gives thounsands of error like this: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. WinXP clients are fine with the Offline Files function though.
I Googled and studied online for several days now and it might be related to the "Oppurtunistic Locking", or "Oplocks" for short, in the SMB protocol. Since Apple has re-written Samba, there's no "smb.conf" anymore to change the Oplocks setting. Maybe it's possible to change the setting in "com.apple.smb.server.plist"?
From the Internet:
1. Oplocks should be DISABLED on the server if there is any other file sharing protocol (AFP, etc.) other than SMB.
2. Offline Files will NOT work properly if Oplocks is disabled on the server side.
3. It was possible to config oplocks setting in smb.conf in Mac OS X versions prior to Lion but now there's no such config file.
My Question:
1. Does anyone else have similar problems?
2. Is it related to the Oppurtunistic Locking thing?
3. Is Oppurtunistic Locking enabled or disabled in Lion Server by default?
4. If it's related to Oplocks, how can I change the setting on the server?
5. I've noticed that the authentication from Windows PCs to the SMB share on the Lion Server is much slower then in SL. Could this somehow be related to my problem?
Thanks for your time! :-DAny luck getting the info on SMBX parameters like OPLOCKS ? This is apparently causing an issue with Autodesk Revit. I am resorting to installing SMBUP.
There is an article that describes this method for altering the Lion smbd configuration parameters for honoring ACLs:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server AclsEnabled -bool NO
from this article

Offline Files Do Not Sync Correctly or Show Error
I have a problem with files not syncing correctly and not showing errors. The client station is running Windows 7 Professional Version 6.1 Build 7601: Service Pack 1). A clear example of the problem is listed below:
On January 9 the laptop was connected to the server with the shared folder. Three files in that folder were open (in Notepad) on another computer running Windows XP. That computer does not have offline access setup for any folders.
After the files were closed on the Windows XP computer, the Windows 7 computer was shut down and physically disconnected from the network.
On January 10 I was working offline with the Windows 7 computer and noticed that the files did not include the changes made on January 9. Since the changes were minor, I was not concerned and continued working offline for several days.
When I returned to the office on January 20, I reconnected to the network and opened the Sync Center expecting to see sync errors for the files in question, instead the conflict Window showed "There are currently no sync conflicts."
When I attempted to open the files, I found they were the version saved from the Windows XP computer on January 9. I quickly disconnected the Windows 7 computer from the network and was able to find the offline version of the files in the \Windows\CSC
directory and copied them to another location.
What causes this error and what steps can I take to ensure all sync problems are displayed, instead of having the system revert to out of date files without warning me?
Thanks for your helpHi,
I noticed that when the files finished on Windows XP PC, Windows 7 PC is not connected to the network, and Windows 7 PC was stayed offline(No connection to the network folder) until January 20,
right?
If I understand correctly, the files on Windows 7 PC have no connections to perform a sync. On Windows 7,
Background Sync runs at regular intervals as a background task to automatically synchronize and reconcile changes between the client computer and the server. IT administrators can configure synchronization intervals and block out times. With
this feature, users no longer must worry about manually synchronizing their data with the server when working offline.
More details, please check the below MS articles:
What's New in Offline Files
How the synchronization in Windows 7 Offline Files works
How to schedule Synchronizations in Windows 7

Cannot use Offline Files with DFS share: "Access denied" error for DfsrPrivate in Sync Center
Hello,
I have an infrastructure that uses DFS to move files to different sites and we are using a GPO to define Offline Files for users at those sites. Whenever we try to initiate a manual sync, an error stating "Access
denied" is generated for all DfsrPrivate directories and the Sync Center reports it as a failed sync. We have tried giving Domain Users, Everyone, and invidiual accounts Write, Modify and even Full Control permissions to the DfsrPrivate directories and
as it seems, only users with administrative access and allowed to sync properly. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?
-GirardHi,
I cannot help test on this moment but we should not create offline files on DfsrPrivate folders which will cause issue. Try to exclude those folders as Offline Files and it should work in Sync Center.

File Error: Unknown File, Cannot Save
I hope this is only a matter of healthy file management, but I'm quite confused and hope someone can clear this up into something of a simple science. On the otherhand, could this be a LIMITATION of FCP?
-Have been editing a sequence from a larger film on a second computer. That sequence has been worked on over several days and saved (of course). However, upon saving last night, was an error message: "File error: Unknown File" and the project could not be saved.
-This is quite possibly due to the fact that both the media and project files have been copied over the network to the first computer where the master project is being assembled.
-HOWEVER, no media files claimed to be offline, everything was editable AND the FILE WOULD NOT SAVE through multiple attempts
-ALSO, the other open project WOULD NOT SAVE either (its files where never moved or otherwise tampered with. It was a small and entirely local operation).
-SAVING was finally accomplished ONLY by saving the project file to the LOCAL HD rather than the EXTERNAL DRIVE where the MEDIA and PROJECT FILES originated and had been previously saved to.
-All other attempts to save to the EXTERNAL were met with the message "FILE ERROR: UNKNOWN FILE" This compromised saving process resulted in the loss of all work, edits, etc. on the LESSER and EXCLUSIVELY local project.
-AFTER saving to the LOCAL HD, the project COULD BE once again saved to the EXTERNAL HD. This flow seemed very strange to me.
-Has anyone else encountered this problem, and what can I correct in my processes to avoid this.
--*Also, the First computer encountered the same problems at the same time, after both EDITING & SAVING had taken place since the last FILE COPYING. Again, work was lost.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Excel 2010 changes relative link paths to absolute in files synced with Offline Files in Windows 7
Hello! I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem: I have a large number of Excel 2010 and 2003 files in a folder on my file server. This whole folder is also synced to my computer using Offline Files in Windows 7. I have a lot of references between
cells in different Excel files, and all referenced workbooks are physically in the same folder. This all works nicely when I create these files at work - all file paths referenced in the cells are created as relative paths and the documents open correctly.
This is, I understand, the expected and default behavior when Excel creates links. When I edit these files at home, nothing seems odd until I get back to work and sync these files back to the file server. At this point, I discovered that Excel 2010 has, when
I saved the files while away from the corporate network, changed /all/ the cell references in any offline-edited Excel files to point at absolute paths, and that these absolute paths point to somewhere in my %APPDATA% structure. So whenever I come to work
and I try to open an Excel file that I have recently worked with offline, I get a bunch of error messages about referenced files that are missing, although clearly they exist in the same folder as the file I've opened, and I must edit all the file references
again, whereupon they are again created correctly as relative paths (since all files exist in the same folder), which are promptly mangled into absolute C:\....\Offline Files\.....\..... paths whenever I save them at home (and since that works too, I don't
notice it again until I come back to work and the offline files are synced back to the real network location). This seems to be a case of Windows 7's Offline Files not being able to fool Excel 2010 into believing it is working on a file server - apparently
Excel 2010 can see through the fakery and decides on it's own to "fix" the problem (which obviously isn't a problem since the paths are relative to begin with) by saving the paths as absolute paths instead. Yes, really clever, Excel. The exepected behavior
according to MSKB is that links are created as relative paths, so why does it change to absolute whenever Offline Files are involved? I know Offline Files only syncs, it doesn't actually change the files, so I can conclude that Excel is the program at fault
here. Is there a fix for this, or a known workaround? Because frankly, this bug makes it impossible for me to work in any advanced manner with linked Excel files. The sad thing is that this worked perfectly fine with Office 2003 and Windows XP. Is there a
patch for this problem that I might have missed (I am running the latest Service Pack and I get Office updates from Microsoft Update). If not, is there a workaround I can use to prevent Excel from corrupting my links when I edit the files offline?Hello danceswithwindows,
Thank you for your post.
This is a quick note to let you know that we are performing research on this issue.

Offline Files sync gives Access Denied on Windows 8.1 Enterprise
A small number of our staff have now been issued with Windows 8.1 Enterprise hybrid tablet computers, however there is a problem with using Offline Files on them - when synchronising, it responds "Access Denied".
The tablets have Windows 8.1 Enterprise with all the latest updates on them. Staff users have a home folder on the network under \\server\staff\homes\departmentname\username which gets mapped to U: and their My Documents is redirected there. The server is currently
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.
We have tried:
Resetting the Offline Files cache using the FormatDatabase registry key
Using Group Policy Objects to force Offline Files synchronisation at logon and logoff
Clearing the local cached copy of the user's profile from the machine and getting them to log back on to recreate it
Setting up Offline Files event logging to the event viewer - this provides no useful information as it only logs disconnect/reconnect and logoff/logon events
Forcing Group Policy update using gpupdate /force
Forcing synchronisation using PowerShell and https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb309189%28v=vs.85%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
As suggested by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275461 we gave the All Staff security group Read permissions on F:\Staff (which is the one that is shared as \\server\staff) and then blocked inheritance for folders below that
We also checked the following:
The CSC cache has not been relocated
No error 7023 or event 7023 errors relating to Offline Files are present in the event logs
The Offline Files service is running
The OS is already Windows 8.1 Enterprise, so installing the Pro Pack is not applicable
In HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UserState\UserStateTechnologies\ConfigurationControls all the values are set to 0 and not 1
We do not use System Center Configuration Manager
No errors were found in the Folder Redirection event logs
None of these solved the problem, does anyone have any suggestions?
Here is the error we are seeing:

Cambridge, UKHi,
Generally speaking, this problem is most probably occurs at File Server Client.
Firstly, please check the sharing file Sync Settings.
Shared file properties\Sharing\Advanced Sharing\Caching
Also check shared file user list, make sure these problematic user account have full permission.
On the other hand, could you able to access to the shared file directly in Windows Explorer?
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help, and unmark the answers if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]
Yes, the user can access the shared folder in Windows Explorer. The user has the following permissions:
Traverse Folder/Execute File
List Folder/Read Data
Read Attributes
Read Extended Attributes
Create Files/Write Data
Create Folders/Append Data
Write Attributes
Write Extended Attributes
Delete
Read Permissions
Here is a screenshot of how the Caching settings are set up on the top-level Staff share. -
Download and Upload Status/other utilities in one offline file
Hi,
Is it possible to download or upload the GUI statuses?
Also, I am curious if there is any utility by which I can find all the related technical objects for one report/utility?
e.g. when i try to copy objects from one system to another(which are not connected), I often forget to copy few objects which i have to find out through code inspector errors. (eg. message classes, search helps etc).
also, i repeatedly have to copy the screens and statuses to other systems. Is it possible to download all of the related objects in an offline file? so that i can upload the same to other system.
our sandbox system is not connect to the real time system and we need to copy objects from dev/quality to sandbox if we want to try out few things.Hello Chinmaya,
I know of a program REPTRAN which can download all your code and the related things in multiple offline files.
But dont know if it will be of any help to you or not.
Please check the same.
Hope it helps.

Windows 7 and Offline Files - Sync at logoff
All,
I have set up folder redirection in my organisation (testing purposes) The problem I am facing is Windows 7 will not automatically sync offline files back to the share.
There is a gpo for Windows XP to do this when a user is either is logging off on on. I am trying to accomplish the same when a user logs off and a script can be run to initiate a sync.
Please help.
This is the VBS script I am using, but does nothing when I run it. IS there something missing? A better solution?

*This code was pulled from: http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2007/04/26/cscsyncall-vbs-sync-the-entire-offline-files-cache.aspxHi,
Please know that Offline Files in Windows 7 uses Bitmap Differential Transfer. Bitmap Differential Transfer tracks which blocks of a file in the local cache are modified while you are working offline and then sends only those blocks to the server. In Windows
XP, Offline Files copies the entire file from the local cache to the server, even if only a small part of the file was modified while offline.

How to Move Offline Files Cache in Windows 7?
I'm using the offline files feature in Win7 (much better implementation, btw - kudos!) and I've run into a problem: the CSC is using up all the drive space on C:\. I'd like to move the CSC to D:\, however I've been unable to do so.
I've seen this posted here previously (2/2009), however the response was to follow the instructions from Vista (using migwiz.exe). When I launch migwiz.exe, I have no option of selecting the offline files as outlined in the Vista instructions (http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/archive/2006/12/12/moving-the-offline-files-cache-in-windows-vista.aspx).
Are there any other ways of doing this?
Thanks!Hi everyone,
I have found a way to move the offline cache in W7, but it means you have to reset your existing offline files, give the new location, and resync the folders in the new location.
Here is what to do (if you haven't synchronised any offline files yet, for exemple after a clean install, you can start directly in step 3):
0) Make sure your existing offline files are synchronised with the server, as you are going to lose ALL the offline copies and you don't want to lose any new/modified files. Make a backup if you're not sure and if the files are important.
1) reset the content of the old cache by adding the following command in a batch file and running it (of course you can add the parameter in the registry manually, but it's quite handy to have the batch ready whenever you need to reset the cache):
REG ADD "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\Parameters" /v FormatDatabase /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
2) Reboot, the added key will be detected, all the content of the cache will be deleted, as well as the key itself (it only resets once)
3) Add the following registry key in the same HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\Parameters section of the registry:
Type: REG SZ (string)
Name: CacheLocation
Value: the new location in NT format, ie \??\d:\csc if you want to create the new cache in d:\csc
4) Create the folder in the new location
5) Reboot (not sure if it's necessary, but better safe than sorry)
6) Reselect the files/folders you want to sync offline, and they should sync in the new location.
7) If you want to, you can delete the old cache location in c:\windows\csc by following the end of the vista procedure linked in the first post (using takeown etc)
It worked for me (Win7 RTM x86), let us know if it works for you...
Obviously it won't help if you don't want to / can't resynchronise, but if you're starting from scratch or don't mind resyncing from scratch, it's a good workaround.
EDIT: if you sync a lot of files and get a lot of errors, try to reset your offline files again following the above procedure (steps 1-2), disable offline files, reboot, enable offline files, reboot, and resync your files. Again, it worked for me... -
"File Error" and "Out of Memory" when rendering FCE
Dear all,
I imported a 2 hour holiday video into FCE.
When rendering the video, a message appears that the rendering process will last about 15 minutes to complete.
However, frequently I am warned by the following message:
"File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application"
When activating Rendering again, the render time is now increased to about 45 minutes.
I now either receive a couple of times the message: "File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application" >>or even worse: "Out of memory"<<.
Today I purchased an addition 2GB of memory to increase my memory form 750 MB to 2.5GB !!!
Can anyone please tell me what could be the cause of these messages and how to solve them?
BTW, no other programs are running while I use FCE.
Thanks in advance,
Hans E.<br>

PowerMac G5-Dual 1.8GHz, Memory 2.5GB, iMac G3-600MHz, Airport, Airport Express Mac OS X (10.3.9)Is it happening when you're rendering, or exporting?
The error message means FCE is trying to rewrite a file that it is currently using. It could be mistakenly trying to save a render file, if you're only rendering, or if you're trying to re-export a file, you'll get that message.
Try dumping all your render files, restarting FCE and trying again.
The Out of Memory error almost always points toward a corrupt file. Could be a source file, could be a render file. Again, dump your render files and try again.
If these don't work, you need to close FCE, take all your source media offline, then open FCE. Now, reconnect each clip one by one until you find the corrupt clip. Keep going, there may be more than one. Re-capture the corrupt clips and you should be good to go. -
Hello,
1 create tablespace TS1
2 create restore point RP1;
3 drop tablespace TS1 (datafile '/c:/ts1.dbf') including files
4 restore database to RP1
5 alter database open resetlogs failed with this error :
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01245: offline file 7 will be lost if RESETLOGS is done
ORA-01110: data file 7: '/c:/ts1.dbf'
Can you help me please to fix this issue and to understand why it's occured.Hi,
If you check the alert log you will get message similar to
Recovery deleting file #7:'<Oracle_Home>/db/dbs/UNNAMED00007' from controlfile.
Now you have 2 option
1. If you have backup of that tablespace TS1 then you can restore and recover it
If you don't need that tablespace then you offline drop that datafile 7 . Open the database in resetlogs mode and then drop tablespace TS1
Thank you
