Offline MobileMe account on Mail application

Hi
I have been a MobileMe customer and mac user for several years. I use my Mail app for multiple email accounts. Yesterday my MobileMe account within Mail app went offline, and seems adamant that it will not return online.
I have tried deleting the MobileMe account in Mail app, restarting and re-creating ... but did not work ... error message appeared at first screen (with name, email, password).
I have a substantial number of folders/emails on the MobileMe server, and have lost access to these too.
My MobileMe account continues to be successfully accessed through me.com and also via my wife's laptop and my ipod touch. Therefore problem seems local to mail app on my imac rather than mobileme account or isp.
Any guidance most welcomed.
Ross
Error message
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “[email protected]” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “mail.me.com” refused to allow a connection on port 993."

I don't think you can access Netscape via an email client, only through their web-based pages. Possible someone knows a plugin to bypass this, similar to the way Hotmail is accessed from Mail.

  • How Can I Change Default Mail Account in Mail Application?

I have 2 Gmail accounts. Gmail1 and Gmail2. When I changed the password of my Gmail1 account - which used to be my default mail account - it changed in the Mail application so that now Gmail2 is my default mail account.
I know that usually you can go
Preferences -> Accounts -> And on the list on the left you can just drag the mail account you want to be the default account to the top of the list. But it doesn't work. It's just not possible to move them around on the list, they are all stuck.
Can anyone help me understand why I can't reorder my mail accounts, or if there is another way to which I can change my default mail account?
    Thanks.

    Hey wilhel10002,
Thanks for the question. My answer to your question relies on what you determine to be the default account. If it is simply which account is at the top of the list, yes you can re-order the accounts in the sidebar as needed (not from Mail > Preferences > Accounts).
However, I personally perceive the default account as the account that I send new messages from. This behavior can be adjusted in Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send new messages from
    Mail (Mountain Lion): Composing preferences

  • HT2500 Adding me mobileme account to mail will not work because it does not accept the password but works on iphone and ipad?

I am attempting to add my mobile me account to mail on my iMac. The first step is to give the email address and the password. For some reason it does not recognize the password. It is the some password used on iphone and ipad and logging on to me.com

    Hello,
The problem isn't really the Password, but the default Servers if you choose MobileMe for account type.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • MobileMe account in Mail stopped working, iPhone fine.

Can anyone help shed any light on this? My MobileMe mailbox within the Mail app appears to have stopped working, but on my iPhone, MobileMe is working just fine. I've restarted my Mac, rebuilt the mailbox, reinstalled the password. Nothing. I just get a spinning wheel, and my messages are not being picked up. Any suggestions?
BTW, I never had this in Leopard- which worked effortlessly (I just recently upgraded to SL, and both Mail and Safari just don't work as well/ fast as they used to- or as it seems anyway).

  • IPhone MobileMe account push mail

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble getting my push mail (.mac address) to work on the IPhone. I know that there have been certain issues with MobileMe and the whole push stuff... are these issues still going on?
Also deleted mails on the IPhone don't get deleted on the cloud, but I've learnt from the forum that this is a known bug.
    Any help, please?

You might get a better response if you ask in the dedicated *MobileMe on iPhone and iPod Touch > MobileMe Mail* forum, as that is where people who are using MobileMe are most likely to see posts relating to it.

  • Mail server "destroy" MobileMe account

    Hi,
What a mess I did! Like 99% of mail population I started a thing without reading "the manual" first and...
So, I have MacMini (Intel, 6 month old) which is not in use and I tough to try SL Server.
While installing I "checked" all services like mail, file, Chat... I write server name (e.g. server) and entered my domain (e.g. somedomain.info) and server created server.somedomain.info. Further on I created users ...
The great thing of this OS is that as Administrator, you can send invitations with automatic set up for clients (you guys know that)... and I sent this invitation to my MobileMe mail, which I entered while creating users (user and admin on server is Jon Doe). I received this invitation mail on my MBP and clicked "automatic set up" and since then I cant send any mail from my Mail application via MobileMe account. While trying to send new mail from Mail app, I have option to send it via (or from) my other mail account (IPS account and server, like AOL) and second option is via server.somedomain.info (which is not working) ... my MobileMe account just disapered!
I tried to delete this account from Mail preferences, but in a instance is automatically recreated, I disable mail service for me as an user on server, but nothing ... I tried do disable this account in Mail application, but in an instance two more accounts are automatically created (these two I can delete)...
So, I think that clicking on "automatic set up" in this invitation mail some code is saved or installed somewhere on clients computer or something! How can I delete this action or delete this "automatic set up" thing?
Oh yes, at the moment I don't want to use mail service on my MacMini server (but I want my MobileMe account back ... it is very important), so configure it is not a solution.
Shutting down and reinstalling the server is not an option as well, because I'm currently running a web project and on this server I have a site development preview for my customer.
    Many thanks for any help,
    Matej

Finally an answer.... I'll try it tomorrow on clients' computers.
Now I will look for an answer on the next question: why I sometimes can and sometimes cannot make working mailaccounts.
    Same (new) server, same settings.
Then also: since trying and changing this, my iMac and laptop do not send mails anymore from home. Spending hours and hours, then suddenly some accounts will work. No sending though. Will look further on this site hoping to find an answer.

  • MobileMe and iCloud accounts in Mail on my iPhone

In Oct 2011 a user wrote:
"I updated to iCloud and now I have both MobileMe and iCloud accounts in Mail on my iPhone 4s. I don't have the option to delete the MobileMe account so now I have two of the same account under different names. How do I delete the MobileMe and keep the iCloud?"
The following response solved that users issue:
"Open the MobileMe preferences in System Preferences, sign out. Open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preferences and either turn off the MM account or delete it. The MM account will disappear at the end of June 2012.  You can delete any MM account you have currently turned on in your iPhone's settings."
I have the same issue, and that helpful response does not apply in my situation.  On my Mac, I am signed out of my MobileMe account; the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preference does not show a MobileMe account, just iCloud.
On my iPhone, Mailboxes in Mail shows my MobileMe address and iCloud entries - both mailboxes/accounts show the same folders and messages. Also, in Settings' Mail, Contacts, Calendars the Accounts does not have a MobileMe entry, just iCloud.
Mailboxes in Mail on my iPad 2, on the other hand, does not show the MobileMe address; it only shows the iCloud entry.
Any recommendations on how to remove the MobileMe entry on my iPhone?

Don't count on it!  Both my iPad and iPhone4S are on 5.1 and both are having problems right now!

  • Cannot send email vial MAIL application in Tiger

    1. When sending email using .mac account in MAIL application, my password is not accepted. The email is deposited in the outbox and is not sent (no whooshing sound). And no reflection of the email is in the sent box.
    2. When sending email using an alternative earthlink account, my password is accepted and the email is sent with whooshing sound, and reflection of sent email is found in the sent box.
    3. Within MAIL, I notice that my .mac address is "Cristino Vicerra Jr Cristino Vicerra Jr <[email protected]>" (name is repeated twice); and that my .mac account is "[email protected]@mac.com" . Is this a significant to my problem of not being able to send email? How can I correct this?

    Cristino,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Please read the following Knowledge base article, and try changing to Port 587, or if that fails change to use the SMTP provided by your ISP as the Outgoing server in the .mac account. See:

  • How to work seperately with 2 MobileMe addresses in Mail?

    Hello!
I have several MobileMe addresses I'd like to add to Mail. I'm already working with one (private), but would like to add a second one (business). I don't want the mails to show up together, but keep both adresses seperate in Mail.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks!

Just create another MobileMe account in Mail. Go to Mail -> Preferences, click the Accounts icon and click the + button at the bottom left corner of the window. Enter the requested info.

  • Multiple MobileMe accounts – Set the one used for publishing Photos & Video

I'm running OS 3.0 on an iPhone 3G S. I've configured two MobileMe accounts, both Mail only (no Calendar, no Contacts). MobileMe account 1 is also the default email account as of Settings.
However: When I use one of the sharing features in the Photos app, it wants to publish to Galleries of MobileMe account 2 (though, as stated above, account 1 is set to be the default email account).
Any idea how to change this?
In the list of configured email accounts MobileMe account 2 is listed below MobileMe account 1. However, alphatically MobileMe account 2 ranges before MobileMe account 1. Is Photos simply picking the first MobileMe account it finds in alphabetical order?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Macworld has a workaround for this that seems to work ok:
    http://tr.im/MMAccount
On getting the deleted mail accounts to sync back from iTunes, I had to de-select them first, and then re-select to get them to show up afterwards, but at least I can upload to the correct account now.

  • Can't get/send mail from MobileMe account

Suddenly, my mail app does not download mail to my MobileMe account, or send from it. All my other accounts from different suppliers work normally. I can see the mail sitting on my MobileMe page (via Safari) but the spinning cog wheel just goes round and round - on both inbox and Sent.
I've restarted, repaired permissions, removed the account from preferences and re-installed it, but it makes no difference. Any ideas?

Well, I wouldn't jump into that just yet. Others may have suggestions for you to try.
Select the moble me account in the inbox and try rebuilding the mailbox under the mailbox menu. See if that does anything.
Also, check server and port setting and compare to the one still working on your laptop.
At some point in time, I assume MMe will not be configurable under a regular account, but will all be intergrated fully into iCloud. Have you considered just signing into iCloud and using it that way? When doing so, it will create the account in your Mail application as long as you're signed in.
One word of caution: when signing into iCloud, be careful what you select to use. If you select calendars, it will upload your calendar info into iCloud and delete the information locally from the computer. Your calendar information won't be available on your computer when you sign out. Address book gives you the option to keep local contacts on your computer when signing out.
I also tried to add a mobile me account outside of iCloud to test, but it keeps setting me up to the iCloud IMAP account. The account disappears from mail when you log out. So, it won't let me set it up as a POP account. I've tried to set it up in the past using the older settings before iCloud, but wasn't successful. Maybe I had the wrong settings. Not sure what MMe was using last.

  • MobileMe Family Pack- Setting up old sub-account in Mail

This past spring we had a MobileMe Family Pack with one email account unassigned. Before MobileMe closed, i created an email address for my son, so that when he was ready to have one he would. Now i am trying to set that up for him, and am having quite a difficult time. I'm not sure if i'm setting it up wrong, or if it's even possible to do, since the account was never actually utilized before we migrated to iCloud.
I logged into his name on our iMac and tried to use System Preferences>iCloud to set it up. After asking for his name and DOB, it told me he was too young to have an iCloud account (or maybe it was an AppleID; he's 8 BTW). So, i opened Mail (which for some reason is hanging mecilessly at evey click, beachballs nonstop) and went through the setup assistant. I thought i set up an iCloud email account successfully, using the me.com email i had created back in MobileMe. I don't remember setting a password up at that time, but i put in the one i most likely would have used and it seemed to take it. But when i tried to send him a message from my Mail, it would not send because it rejected his address.
So, i went back into his Mail program and added an IMAP account using the same email address, using the incoming/outgoing server info from my account (p01-imap.mail.me.com & smtp.me.com:hisemailprefix). The incoming server for his iCloud IMAP account is not editable, BTW, and says mail.example.com in grey. Still no luck, both accounts cannot connect. When i try to check the iCloud account it says it can't connect to the iCloud server and asks for the password, and when i put in the one i used to set up the Mail account it doesn't accept it. this kind of makes sense since he doesn't seem to have a full-fledged iCloud account. When i try to check the IMAP account it says it's offline, and when i try to take it online it asks for password but won't connect. mail Connection Doctor says Mail is connecting to the internet.
Should i try to do this from my login and Mail, see if that works? Is there a way to reset the password i may have used when i originally assigned the MobileMe account? Does his Mail program constantly freezing mean something (all his other programs work fine)? Any advice is appreciated; thanks!
    Rob
    [email protected]

As you did not migrate his sub-account to iCloud when this was possible (it would have become a separate iCloud account) you cannot retrieve the contents of his account. However unmigrated MobileMe addresses (other than aliases) can be reactivated by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with them and enabling Mail in the checklist there. Until you do this the account is not an iCloud account.
As you have found there is an age limit. If you had given them an age greater than 12 you would have been able to set this up. As it is, it's not set up and no amount of setting it up manually in Mail or sending messages to it is going to work.
The iCloud Terms of Service say:
'The Service is available to individuals aged 13 years or older. If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority in your country of residence, you must review this Agreement with your parent or guardian to make sure that you and your parent or guardian understand it. Parents or guardians should also remind any minors that conversing with strangers on the Internet can be dangerous and take appropriate precautions to protect children, including monitoring their use of the Service.'
Given this, it would not be proper to advise you to apply again mis-stating his age, even if the fact that you've already told them he is 8 does not technically bar you from doing this.

  • Mail won't work unless I use my MobileMe account which is dead

I've been trying to use my Apple Mail app in 10.6.8, but whenever I try to it asks for my MobileMe password. It then tries to set up a MobileMe mail account. I don't want nor need any account except my work account. I try to delete the MobileMe account in the Mail preferences window, but it keeps coming back. This is a dead application, so I'm not sure what is happening. When I try to create my work account it tells me it can't verify the password. Very strange. The words "MobileMe IMAP" appear after Account Type in the Accounts window and it cannot be deleated! It then tries to guide me to set up an additional account and it automatically puts in my five years defunct mac.com account! What is going on! I have to go through the motions of this bogus account before it lets me go any further to set up a functional email account. How do I get rid of this ghost account? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Michael,
If Mail won't allow you to change the settings when setting up a new account, you may want to make sure that "Automatically set up account" isn't enabled. You may find the following article helpful:
