OfflineRT Media Naming bug

We've had a real problem since upgrading from FCP4 where Media Manager now names files differently- For example, If we use media manager to make an offlineRT version of a project, it renames files IF THEY HAVE A period (".") in the file name. For example "myclip.004" becomes "myclip.004.004" whereas "myclip004" would simply be "myclip004" This is very irritating because it means that projects do not link back correctly.
Can anyone offer any hints os to how to get FCP to stop doing this!
Thanks-
Adam

You can drop Apple a line using the Feedback link at the top of the main page of the FCP forum.
Otherwise, just use an underscore "_" instead of a period "." You get the same effect with no problems.

  • 5.4 Adjustment brus bug + File export naming bug

There appear to be two bugs in 5.4
    1. I just finished editing an intense adjustment brush edit. I went to tweek it when I opened the brush there are no pins to activate even though the edits are there.
    2. Export file naming not working correctly. I always use export "Title plus file number" or "Custom name - original file number" Neither of these exports include the file number.
    3. Did 5.4 change somthing in the configuration settings. If not, is there a way to restore 5.3 until these bugs are fixed.
    Jim

Regarding item 1, the pins can be visible or not visible or conditionally visible.  The option to do this is at the lower left of the tool-options bar available when you press the T key to toggle it on and off.  If you feel your pin-visibility options are set properly, please show a print-screen with the pins not there and the pin-visibility options set to Always.
Not sure about item 2 as I don’t use it.

  • N86 - media player Bug ?

    Hi,
while my media player is on pause, after receiving a call and closing it, then media player start playing.
Is it a bug or it can be solve with settings?

Normally the media player will pause when you receive a call and the duration depends on how long the call would be, and technically it's not a bug. It automatically plays and resumes after you end the call to where were you watching or listening with a fade in effect to the sound.

  • Media Sync Bug workaround?

There seems to be a bug with using Media Sync with a Sound
Icon. If the events synced with the sound last longer than the
audio, the flow of Authorware freezes. The navigation buttons still
function, but you can not proceed beyond the audio. (This was
discovered when slower computers were running the application.) It
has been confirmed that this is a bug.
So, now I'm working on a way around this. After the last icon
synced with the audio, I had originally placed icons that waited
for the audio to complete and then would jump to the next icon
after the audio. This works the first time through the page, but it
creates another problem once you replay the page by either using a
    replay or back button.
This new problem seems to treat the Navigation or the Goto
function (I have tried both) as if they were jumping to a new page
and erases everything on the page that appeared before the jump.
Everything after the jump seems to be placed on a "limbo" page and
does not get erased even if going to the next page on the
framework. The puzzling part is that this does not happen the first
    time through the page.
Is there a way around these problems other than breaking
everything out of the media sync and placing it directly onto the
    flowline using concurrent audio?

  • Adobe Media Encoder bug with Cineform .avi

I encoded an HDV m2t file to Cineform intermediate in Sony Vegas. I added that file to Adobe Media Encoder's render cue. No matter what export format I choose, AME fails to recognize the source file's pixel aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and produces a horizontally squashed image.
Even the source window incorrectly shows the file as having a PAR of 1:1. Premiere Pro CS4 won't load the source file properly. I can import it into AE CS4. From there, I exported it to the same Cineform intermediate, and then it works fine in AME.
Why can't AME and Premiere Pro recognize the proper PAR in the Vegas-encoded Cineform file?

I'm not even sure if this qualifies as a "bug". The only thing at issue (if I understand correctly) is that AME is failing to recognize the PAR of the file. AFAIK, there is no "standard" for flagging PAR in AVI files (aside from DV footage, which can have simple boolean 16x9 flag).
Adobe has their RIFF headers -- but this is by no means a standard across the entire industry. There is no indication that your file contains any PAR information whatsoever.
If you open the file in Premiere, you should be able to right-click on the clip in the Project window, go to Interpret Footage and select the correct PAR of 1.333.
The problem is that the standalone version of AME does not have an "Interpret Footage" option to override PAR assumptions for AVI files, etc. that are added to queue. This is a good idea for a feature request for future versions of AME.

  • Zen bug reports... where to submit? Firmware & Media Explorer bugs

There seem to be two rather annoying bugs (actually, three, but the firmware ones are closely related) - there should be a separate forum for bug submission...
The firmware bugs are related to the embedded graphics and are present in the updated firmware, too.
The first bug: embedding a graphic in an MP3 properly, with tested tools such as ID3Tagger, works fine in any player supporting the image display - but Zen will *not* display the graphic unless the header's "Album" field is filled, too. If the "Album" field is empty in ID3v2 (or v), Zen will never display the graphic.
The second bug seems related to this: if the "Album" field has the same value in more than one file in the same directory (or playlist), Zen will only use the first indexed graphic for all those files. As a result, right now I have 0 various Star Wars themes in my Zen, each file with a different graphic embedded in it - and yet Zen shows the same graphics in all of them.
The third bug is in the Media Explorer: every time the player is plugged, CTPlyLsU.exe loads. But very often, it will load as a new process each time - and it will NOT be terminated after the player is disconnected, but it will stay in the memory! When that happens, every time the player is detected again, a new instance of the process will be started and used. I plugged the player in 0 times yesterday, and I had 0 instances of that process devouring the resources.

Strange, CTPlyLsU.exe is on my system but based on the task manager it doesn't load at all when the player is connected and everything works fine.Message Edited by jpalm on 0-30-200709:6 AM

  • Media Kind bug

There is a bug in iTunes.
I have several videos I downloaded. the default media type is "movie". I was changing them one at a time to "music video". Then I selected several movies (a bulk change) right clicked GET INFO. The warning came up I clicked YES, selected the options tab, clicked the MEDIA KIND check box and selected "music video" from the drop down. clicked OK
nothing happened. I selected one of the movies I had just tried to do a bulk change on and the MEDIA KIND was not changed it was still MOVIE instead of MUSIC VIDEO.

Same problem, I posted a different thread but was directed here.  Just for completeness here is my full post:
Each day I record a local radio program manually and then add it to iTunes to listen to at work the next day.  When I add it to iTunes I fix up the Artist and Album info and then change the media type to Podcast.  Prior to version 11 this worked great, the show would show up as a podcast, where it would be easy to find and I could see at a glance if I have listened to it or not (the little blue dot next to it).  Now that I've updated to 11 this doesn't work.  I can go through the same motions, however after choosing Media Kind = Podcast and clicking "OK", nothing happens.  All the other info updates properly, album/artist, but it will not show up as a podcast. When I Get info on the song again it still shows the Media Kind = Music.  It will not take the change.

  • Adobe Media Player bug, 2 years on.

I note on the Adobe Develop site for Flex tutorials, the company states:
Want to view Flex in a Week videos in offline mode? Follow these steps:
    Install Adobe Media Player.
Click the My Favorites menu at the top.
Click Add RSS Feed at the bottom.
Copy and paste this URL: http://sessions.adobe.com/FlexInAWeek/feed.xml
I complete the above steps, then download a selection of the videos to view offline.
I go have a coffee and come back.  The videos have disappeared.
I repeat the download process, after 30 minutes the videos disappear.
I repeat the download process, after 1 hour, all but two of the videos disappear. The last two disappear 30 minutes later.
I repeat the download process but this time do a copy of the cache folder in
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Media Player\Local Store\cache
When the application has deleted the files, I can open my copy of the cache folder and double click to watch the original flv.
I now realise that this problem has been reported since 2007 but Adobe continues to re-issue versions of this player with the same stupid behaviour and they do not comment on this behaviour. They also  continue to offer the player for viewing their published videos offline despite the fact that half way through viewing one video the next episodes may disappear in the interim?
    Why?
I now use a third party product to download and save the above videos for VIEWING OFFLINE as Adobe state. Howeve I cannot use the Adobe Media Player to view ANY of their own content, while this issue remains.

IMHO, Adobe Media Player is one app that nobody in adobe responds to and at the moment is pretty useless. Whenever I install my adobe apps, I just uncheck Adobe Media Player. It's as useful and a mosquito.

  • Edit Naming Bug

Just tried to edit a file name after editing in PS.
God it's painful to do, even after you work out how on earth to do something that is normally so trivially easy.
LR imports and displays a file called say
    "2007-03-15 Betty 004 Provia+Lomo-ed.psd"
no problem, yet when I try to edit it to read
    "2007-03-15 Betty 004 Provia + Lomo-ed.psd",
    LR changes it to
    "2007-03-15 Betty 004 Provia @ Lomo-ed a [email protected]",
Edit name again and I get
    "2007-03-15 Betty 004 Provia @ Lomo-ed a bit@[email protected]"
where the @ symbol is actually a crossed out box in LR. ??????!!!!
Now after a bit of playing around, I discover that if you edit an name, LR adds extention automatically, even if it's aready there. Duh! So, if you edit a filename to correct a typo you also have to remember to delete the extension as LR adds it automatically. Not only that, undo doesn't correct the extention bug even though it corrects the name edit.
I assume it was thought by the designers, if you are going to edit a name, you replace all the name and do not have to worry about the extention. Obviously, nobody ever changed their mind or spotted a typo when designing this feature. Bridge allows single file reanming/editing simply and elegently. LR + Bridge are made by the same company aren't they?
Yet again LR takes a normally very simple thing, overcomplicates and breaks it and not only that, does it differently from other Adobe apps which weren't broken.
Plus - why can't I have a '+' sign in my file names or a ',' for that matter, they've worked until now with no problems. Are vowels going to be forbidden next?

Thanks for your reply Justin. I know how to name "audio objects" I've done it many times... but now with this new feature, where logic does it automatically, it does not seem to work properly. When I type in the name I want to be displayed, it does not change in the arrange window, as it used to, and should still. Anyway thx for your response.

  • More than 1000 photos - iPhone naming bug???

I have more than 1000 pictures on my iPhone. When I tried to import them onto my Mac using iPhoto I realised that for some reason iPhone names the pictures incorrectly.
Instead of going from 0999 to 1000 Phone goes from 0999 back to 0000. It appends the file name with "_2".
    Is this a bug?
I keep all my iPhone pictures organised in a separate folder rather than use iPhoto.
This means that I have to rename all the new photos above 0999. Very annoying.

It doesn't make sense to provide 4 digits and then jump back to zero after using up three of them.
I don't see the problem in keeping 1000+ photos on the iPhone - however, I do back them up very regularly.

  • Windows Media Player Bug - Sort Of

To make a long story short, I could not figure out why my external hard drives were thrashing each time I played a video file from one on my external drives. This would last about five or six minutes each time I played a new file. As my computer is setup
to multi-boot, I soon discovered this problem was only happening in Windows 10. Checking it out further, I discovered Windows Media Player is the culprit. As it turns out, Windows Media Player automatically goes out and syncs external drives and
devices whenever the program starts-up. Unfortunately, this happens each and every single time on program start. As I have lots of audio and video files on my drives, it would take a fair bit of time for Windows Media Player to check all my files to see what
needed to be synced. I did find another article about this on another thread:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/4c6edb49-f335-44e1-9339-9d86ae0dea25/windows-media-player-auto-sync-to-external-storage
There is a procedure in there that tells you how to disable the automatic sync, but it did not seem to work for me under Windows 10.
What is needed is an easy way to disable the automatic sync.

I've found a procedure on another forum that works to disable the sync. You either have to remember to stop the service or reboot your computer before the changes can take effect.
Currently, we may still use the workaround to disable sync settings.
Meanwhile, Media player cannot differentiate between a media player and any other portable device so the only viable method I have found to deal with this issue is to disable the auto sync
    entirely.
This will also stop Win7 from auto-syncing images and everything else but you will still be able to manually transfer files to and from your media players and cameras and no important Win7
    function is impaired.
Click Start and then Run... (Or the shortcut is Windows key + R).
    Type "Services.msc" and press Enter.
Scroll down to "Portable Device Enumerator Service".
Double click and change "Startup Type" to "Disabled".
To return your system to normal simply change "Startup Type" back to "Automatic".

  • Media Export Bug: Red flashes in F55 media

    Hi all,
I have been having endless trouble with exporting media via Premiere Pro.
    The issue:
I am exporting animation codec via quicktime for use in After Effects. Each and every time (at different points - not consistent) red wash flashes will appear through throughout the export.
This is happening with native Sony F55 files (it is cut with Sony F5 files which do not experience this problem) when the 3 Way Color Corrector is applied. I have gone through countless blogs & videos trying to lock this down, however none with a definitive fix that has worked for me.
Rendering at maximum quality & depth. Sequence settings also at maximum bit depth & quality (yet when I turn any of these features on/off the problem remains).
    Bottom line:
I created a work around for my preliminary deliverables. This was sufficient but definitely a step down from my optimal color correction preferences. I am happy to export to any high-quality, AE friendly codec but none have fixed this problem thus far. I need to deliver ASAP and after so much wasted time sourcing the fix myself, I hope someone with similar troubles may be able to point me in the right direction.
See sequence settings screenshot & reference shots to my issue.
    Cheers in advance.
    Dan

Thanks for getting back to me folks - Yes, I have a problem with Sound every time I try to import my Sony MPEG2 into Premier Pro CS3 - again, not an issue, as I'm recording off a mike to Soundbooth anyway.
I spent some time on the internet, and experimented with a trial 'video cleaner' (on a separate machine so I didn't mess up my production PC. At first they couldn't recognize the Sony MPEG2, and I received a message to download the GPL MPEG-2 decoder - I did, and product worked fine, converting to AVI.
However, simultaneously, I started looking at my video's within Premier- and realized that not every video has this red frame. It's in fact intermittent. (Actually, I see it only on export from Premier - in the sequence preview, the red frame does not present itself).
I don't find that it's always at the end - or the beginning, but shows up randomly somewhere in the video - in every 2nd or third video.
Bottom line Is - I'm sure my issue is related to the MPEG-2 my Sony DCR-DVD505 is producing, because I don't see this when working with original AVI's in premier (negating my PC as a cause).
Other than this Red frame popping up in every 2nd or third video - the results are pristine for my purposes (640X480 or smaller green screens using Ultra) - so for now, I'll just shoot the scene twice (I can use the practice), take the one without the red frame and save my money for new camera in the future.
    Thanks!

  • Media import bug

My media import window hangs whenever I try to play one of the files. Any thoughts?

Humour me and run disk utilities over your system, repair preferences and disk.

Let us know how you go.

  • MEDIA ENCODER BUG??

whenever I encode individual clips the timecode is carried across as per the original source file, but when I export then queue a number of files they are all encoded with 00:00:00:00 timecode.

I meant to open the Export Settings dialog in AME after queuing from Premiere Pro.
So steps would be like following (the additional steps in step 5 and 6).
    (1) highlight all the source clips in the project window
    (2) press Ctrl +M - which opens up the export window
    (3) select the format to export, in this case it was XAVC source converted to DNxHD
    (4) press queue which opens up the Media Encoder with all the clips to be encoded with  their new names and destination folder
    (5) In AME, click the queued job.  This opens up the Export Settings dialog.  Do you see the correct timecode here?
    (6) Close the Export Settings dialog.
    (7) press the green button to batch encode.

  • Media Modified Bug

I recently started a project in FCPX.  I imported all my files, made some compound clips, then quit.  I then went into AfterEffects and used some of the video files to create some titles.  Nothing major there.  When I went back into FCPX, it had a hissy fit and said the clips had been "modified".  I don't understand why it is doing this.  1.  The clips weren't modified by AFX, simply read into it.  2.  I am not using any kind of FCPX converted files either as I chose to keep them in their original locations and not copy them.
FCPX also seems to be lacking any easy way to reconnect/reload clips.  Has anyone else run into this?  I am trying to give FCPX the old college try, but so far, I am deeply underwhelmed.

Actually, the manual says that certain alert icons are given in the events browser when a media file has been modified outside of FCP X after it has been imported.  I understand that, in your case, nothing was modified.  But perhaps the file modification date and time had been "touched", or updated by the other application.  There is a way that I use to reconnect the clips.  Go to the clip in the timeline.  I assume it is red.  Control Click on it and choose Reveal in Event Browser.
The event containing the clip, and the clip itself will appear in the event browser.  If you have selected only a section of that clip, the range of your in and out point will be represented in the clip as a yellow border.  Carefully navigate around that clip in the event browser so you don't change the yellow boundaries.  Go up to the File/Import File menu selection and select the file from where you have it stored on your drive.  Import it.  With the clip selected in the timeline and its section selected in the event browser, FCP X will reimport the clip and fill in the timeline and the event browser clip.
If you have put effects on the clip on the timeline, they will still be there and may be confirmed by clicking on the timeline clip and looking at the Video tab of the Inspector window. I know it's a pain ... perhaps it will get better   Best wishes.
