Offset Path No Longer Works Ai 17.1.0 Windows)

I've just noticed--and had it confirmed by two others--that Effect > Path > Offset Path produces no effect in Illustrator CC (17.1.0) in Win7x64 and Win8.
Activating the Preview option in the Offset Path dialog shows no effect. Clicking OK to apply an Offset Path effect produces neither a result nor an effect entry in the Appearance panel.
I confirmed that it WAS working in Ai CS6, and recall using Offset Path previously in Ai CC, though I can't check a prior build of CC to find out when it last worked.
UPDATE: Offset Path does NOT work with default values, but DOES work if any of the values are changed by the user. The effect entry on the Appearance panel can then be edited to go back to the default 10px/4 values if needed. Preview in Offset Path never works.

Not with default values. Clicking OK to apply an Offset Path effect with default values produces neither a result nor an effect entry in the Appearance panel.
Also, I hope you won't minimize how important Preview is. It's what prevents guess at value, apply, evaluate, edit, guess at value, apply, evaluate cycles.

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried a number of different values. Usually when I do a negative offset they're very small values, like -.25 or -.5.
An Update- I took the art work into Ai CS 6 and It still did not work, which is really strange. And I've used it hundreds of times with success in the past. Also I tried it with live type and outlines, ungrouped, un-compounded still could not get it to negative offset.

Please check whether the issue happens when using the Outlook 2010 with Windows server 2003 SP2 to access other mailboxes, such as new created Exchange 2013 mailbox or other migration mailbox.
Since the issue doesn’t occur when using Outlook in other machine, the mailbox configuration in Exchange server side should be correct. Please
create a new Outlook profile
for the problematic user in Windows server 2003 with Outlook 2010 to have a try.

On Find the Alt-N to go to the next no longer works, if you become like windows which takes away good features at a whim then I will have to change browsers.

Wireless no longer working on HP Desktop P6610f (Windows 7)

Scenario:   Last year I bought a new Dual Band LINKSYS router that was connected to my Comcast Modem and brought wireless into the house - I also had my HP Pavillion desktop wirelessly connected and my Network would “see” the name of my router when you right click on the network.
It had been working just fine – no problems – then all of a sudden on Saturday I had no wireless. (we did have heavy rain/storms Thursday). I called Comcast and the modem is fine – and when I took the Ethernet cable of out the router and went direct into the back of the tower, it connected fine to the internet – but of course the house then had no wireless….
….So I assumed that something may be wrong with the router, so went out and got a new NETGEAR router (which I hope to return because I don’t think the problem is with the router) and still can not connect wirelessly to my main computer – but the house is not getting wireless and I will get the internet if I use an additional ethernet cable for the back of the computer into the NETGEAR ROUTER– But when I click on “connect to network” it can’t find the router. Like, no router is listed – it just says “NETWORK 4”.   When I tell the computer to look for the router it can’t find it – but when I logon to the NETGEAR Genie dashboard – everything looks fine.
Do you have any idea what could have happened to the computer/wireless capability to just make it stop recognizing the router?   Is there a quick fix?

So we are down to 2 options as I see it. This is either a software or hardware issue. If this becomes a hardware issue it will end up costing money to you if the computer is not under warranty so I would like to try the last software steps to see if we can fix it or rule out completely the potential for a software solution.
To do this we are going to backup your personal files and do a factory recovery on your computer. To ensure that your personal files are correctly backed up I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), which will ensure that all your personal files are properly backed up and secured. The next thing is to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7), which will walk you through the process of setting your computer back to factory settings. Once you are complete this you can use the first document to restore your personal files back onto your computer.
*** WARNING - The factory recovery WILL wipe your computer clean and you WILL lose ALL the files on it.

Logic crashed, key commands no longer work as well as certain windows/preferences/tools no longer exist, help!

While trying to record a guitar track direct through from a POD HD Pro (which I've done numerous times), Logic suddenly crashed. The screen went dark and my Macbook Pro rebooted. Once I opened Logic Pro X again, it looks like a more primitive and basic version of Logic. I no longer have the capability to open a separate mix/midi/score/etc window. When I select midi tracks they do not show up in the piano roll as to be able to edit. I've also lost all key command functions (i used just default Logic key commands). Is there any way to restore Logic Pro X or do I need to reinstall it? Thanks!

Sounds like Logic's prefs got deleted or corrupted so...
First, do this (Note you will lose any custom key commands you may have created ...)
Quit Logic pro X and then....
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.
Now after restarting Logic... go to Logic Preferences/Advanced and turn on all the advanced features...
Set other preferences back to how you like them (Not forgetting selecting your Audio device)
Things should be then back to normal again...

WiFi no longer works on my Pavilion after Windows 8.1 update...

My computer updated to the Windows 8.1 and I lost my WiFi and now the only network option is ethernet.... I got my lap top so I wouldn't have to sit in one location. How do I get my WiFi back????

Bootcamp no longer works after adding partition via Windows 7

I needed a D: drive in Windows and shrunk the system (C:) partition and added another partition intended to be a secondary drive in Windows. After rebooting Windows throws a BSOD and I can't even select OS X as a bootable option. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction on how to fix? Thank you!

How do I thin a font in CS6? I tried a negative number in offset path and it didn't work.

I tried this with outlining the font and also without. The negative number in offset path doesn't thin, however if I do a preview and put in a positive number it does add onto the width of the font.

I am going to share with you the secret to using type with appearance. After setting type change the fill to none(characheter level), then add a fill(type level). This way you do nto have 2 fills fighting with each other.
Below I did not follow my advice to better explain what is happening, but I chose a different color fill. Even though I only have one fill, there is a black stroke coming from the character level.
To salvage your existing type, double click so you select all the type with the |-Beam, your appearance palette will now say characters, and delete that fill.
When you oultined your fonts, most likley the same thing happened, but a battle battle between the path and group level.

Stroke Path - Simulate Pressure no longer working

In my retouching work I frequently use the Simulate Pressure function of Stroke Path.
This has stopped working.
Stroking path with Brush works, but the Simulate Pressure doesn't.
I've run Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner to run the Chron Scripts, Fix Permissions, Clear Caches, even Fix Prebindings.
I've restarted several times.
So now I'm out of ideas.
Suggestions as the what the problem is and, more importantly, a solution short of a complete reinstall of PS?

For instance to use simulate pressure for size, the control
needs to be set to pen pressure.

Offset Path in the effects menu acts totally different thean ofset Path in the Object menu WHY?
Because the command in the Object menu is a straightforward path-modifying command. You select something, apply the command, and the result is a new path.
Everything in the Effect menu is, in Illustrator parlance, rendered as a "live" effect. That is, the program creates the modified version sort of "behind the scenes." That lets you continue to modify the original path, and the Effects that you have applied automatically re-apply on-the-fly. So instead of Offset Path giving you an new path that you can no longer manipulate as if it is one stroked path, Effect>Path>Offset Path lets you continue to work with the single path without having to start over every time you want to change it.
An Effect can be "nailed down" to "literal" new objects by using an Expand command.

The offset path is "modifiable" in that you can change the attributes of the Effect any time you want. The offset path is also "modifiable" in that you can re-shape the path to which the effect is applied, and the offset path updates automatically. That's a good thing.

Yes. But it's frankly rather lame. That is, if you now need to bend the whole road in another direction, or alter one of its curves, how are you going to do that for both sides of the road at the same time? With Offset Path applied as a live effect, you can. With Offset Path already Expanded, or applied as the older...uh...dead...command, you can't.
So it's your choice. The interface is needlessly awkward and confused, because when Adobe adds new features it seldom does a good job of integrating them with the existing features. So you end upon with both the older and newer features which essentially do the same thing. That's the nature of Illustrator--it becomes increasingly inelegant, cluttered, and confused over time.
One example to the contrary: CS4 finally did away with the separate Filters menu, which was just the old, "literal" versions of most things in the later "live" Effects menu (all of which can be turned into "literal" versions by an Expand command). It was hideously confusing for newcomers to Illustrator to see the same things listed in two menus, one labeled "Filters" and the other labeled "Effects." On the face of it, what's the difference between a "filter" and an "effect" in most people's minds?
One case-in-point example: The Effects menu has a list of Pathfinder Effects that mirror the names of the command that reside in the Pathfinder Panel. But they do different things; they are meant to be applied to different kinds of objects.
Such is the nature of Illustrator. It's a hodge-podge, grab-bag collection of scattered features which are often redundant and often poorly integrated with each other.
It should have been easier if the different behavior was in an offset Path tool menu...NO! The last thing this program needs is more off-the-cuff, willy-nilly, ad-hoc palettes. It needs a thorough interface overhaul, with a dedicated and careful eye toward concise elegance and organizational efficiency. That would be a very ambitious undertaking because the program has been allowed to become such a rat's nest of disarray.

Me again, THANKS FOR HE TALENS well it kind of worked, but I had one chance and have not seen it since but all the root, or iCloud, basically all keychains might have been rest to defaults, but if I try a password, it hakes and says incorrect, the apple id worked though?!?
NIGHTMARE AND NEED THI FOR WORK, last backup (from apples time machine, not sure how old.

Forms HOST command no longer works after database upgrade from 10g to 11g

Hi,
After upgrading the database 10g to 11g the forms HOST command no longer works on Unix server. The form used to work fine prior the upgrade. I read all the threads I could find and did not see any solutions. Adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not work because it does not even run a basic shell script. (I saw this solution, adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, in many questions / threads).
1. I wouldn't expect the database upgrade to be an issue, but it is the only change we had.
2. Note, 11g is Oracle Fusion Middleware which is quite a bit different than 10g.
I even tried the most basic commands like "echo" which is a build-in Unix command and there is no directory for it (ie. no /usr/bin - so variable PATH is irrelvent). i.e HOST('echo hi'); and HOST('echo "hi" '); and even HOST ('echo hi > /my_file.txt'); all returns FORMS_FAILURE (actually the if is IF FORM_SUCCESS THEN ... else ... and the else part always runs now - whereas it didn't before.).
Or basic commands like /usr/bin/ls as in HOST(/usr/bin/ls). At that point I was just testing the Unix command would return FORM_SUCCESS even though I could not see the results (because they weren't writing to a log file). Notice that I'm using the direct path /usr/bin so no Unix environment variables were needed.
The form does use webutil but that part works. For example, we have webutil_file_transfer( ....) The file shows up on the application server and in the expected directory.
Here's the main goal. Upload a file from clients local PC to the datebase server. The form uploads the file to the Application server, then we have a Unix script to scp (secure copy) the file from the application server to the database server. IF webutil, or any other Oracle functions could put the file on the database server that would be better. But, I don't know of any procedures that do that - or would have done it cleanly (i.e. storing to database and write back to server and then using a blob etc. )
Anyway, I was hoping someone would help with either of these.
1) Get the HOST command to work. - If we can get that to work then I wouldn't need any more help. We can just call the already existing Unix script to copy the file from the application server to the database.
2) OR be able to upload directly to the database server - wanted to do that originally
Any help would be appreciated

Symptoms:
When trying to execute a Shell script or any OS command using the host() Built-in from Forms 11g, the host()command is not getting executed. The same functionality works on other operating systems and in previous versions like 10gR2.
Steps to be followed:
1) Take a backup and edit the $DOMAIN_HOME/config/fmwconfig/servers/WLS_FORMS/applications/formsapp_11.1.1/config/default.env or any custom environment file.
2) Locate the following environment variable:
LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
3) Comment out this variable. After the changes, it will look like the following:
#LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
3) a) Instead of LD_PRELOAD, kindly use LD_PRELOAD_64 as given below :
LD_PRELOAD_64=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
(This makes HOST AND RUN_REPORT_OBJECT work fine).
4) Save the file and execute your forms. The Host() built-in will work as expected
The LD_PRELOAD setting in default.env is only required for the working of signal chaining facility in JVM version 1.5 and later. If you are not using theSignal chaining facility, this variable is not required. For more information, refer to the following documentation
