Ogg files

If I Have a bunch of songs encoded as ogg files, how can I get them to work in iTunes?
Thanks
AB

You need to download and install some third party plug-ins:
Xiph QuickTime Components (XiphQT)
Playing ogg vorbis files using iTunes
Alternatively download VLC Media player, it will play Ogg, FLAC and a whole variety of other audio and video files:
VLC Media Player

  • ITunes refuses to play shared .ogg files

    I have the xiph codec thing installed for playing ogg files. Ogg files play fine if the files are stored locally on the mac. However, if I try to play the same files when they are stored on another computer on the network, it refuses to play them. Why?
    Nearly all my music files are ogg vorbis. I have only one imac running OS X 10.4.
    All my other computers are linux based and share their music through Rhythmbox's DAAP music sharing function.
    itunes has no problem playing regular mp3 files from shared sources. Only has a problem playing shared ogg files.

    I have ogg files stored locally (on a PC) and iTunes won't play them, no idea why.

  • Although iTunes works with XiphQT and hence ogg files, front Row will not

    Hello,
    front Row displays "front Row cannot play the current song" although the underlying QT infrastructure/iTunes plays ogg files just fine. Does anybody have a suggestion other than re-encoding them as mp3s?
    Thanks.
    PS. I have the the latest 10.5.2 updates installed through system update.

    But the QuickTime player can indeed play ogg files just fine like iTunes. I have the latest version of XiphQT (http://xiph.org/quicktime/), which is installed under what seems to be the QT component directory. If you are still surprised, you could readily test this and get rid of this fairly self-contained component afterward, assuming you don't have tons of ogg files like me.
    Thanks.

  • Tell Windows that 6680 supports Ogg files

    Hi!
    This is a bit complicated, but I will try my best:
    When I install PC Suite my Phone(6680) get's detected as a Phone via "Nokia Phone Browser". When I now install Windows Media Player 11 it get's detected as a Camera and as a Mobile directly in "My Computer" too.
    Now, in Winamp it shows up in the Media Library and you could do rightclick --> send to --> Nokia 6680 Memory Card.
    In the Winamp Preferences you could set up Winamp to automatically encode files to a specified format befor transfering them to the device.
    I Installed http://symbianoggplay.sf.net on my phone, which contains a player and an ogg codec. So the ogg player, nokia's internal player (gallery) and the ringtone feature support ogg files (which are way better quality and lower size than AAC, MP3 and that stuff).
    But Winamp, Windows and the Windows Media Player - Mobile Phone Driver don't know that the phone now supports ogg.
    So when I tell wianmp to encode files in ogg format I get a Format not supported by device error.
    Additionally when I try to copy ogg filed to the mobile device in "My Computer" windows tells me that my phone doesn't support the format and i could only use it to transfer this file to another location.
    So, from my point of view I see a few possibilities:
    1. Tell SymbianOggPlay to tell the phone to report to the computer that it supports ogg.
    2. Tell the phone directly to report to the computer that it supports ogg.
    3. Tell Nokia PC suite that my phone supports ogg (i think the "Windows Media Player"-Driver internally uses the PC-Suite or it's drivers.
    4. Tell the "Windows Media Player"-Driver that the phone supports ogg (if the phone doesn't report anything about what formats it supports and the driver just has a list of which device supports which formats.
    5. Tell Winamp that my phone could handle ogg files.
    I tried 1. by asking the author of symbianoggplay but he told me i'm at a dead end here.
    I also tried 5. but unlike with an usb stick, winamp doesn't offer the ability to specify supported file formats...
    So, what do you suggest?
    thx in Advance
    Cheers,
    nomike aka Michael Postmann

    Hi,
    For your issue, please add the SharePoint 2010 site to the compatibility view in the Internet Explorer:
    1. Turn on the compatibility view, go to Tools > Compatibility View settings.
    2. Add your SharePoint website to the compatibility view. Or check the box "display all websites in compatibility view".
    The Windows 10 Technical Preview is here today, but it’s a long way from done. We’re going to make it faster,
    better. So I don’t suggest you using Windows 10 Technical Preview for business.

  • How can I turn off the native support for .ogg files in Firefox 6?

    Duplicate of [/questions/877892]
    I want to install an external application to play this kind of file but I don't see any clear way to do it. Firefox does not ask me how I want to treat the .ogg file so I have no way to install a helper until I have turned off the native support.

    did you check the suggestions mentioned in the article i posted in my previous post ??

  • Amarok can't copy ogg files to media player

    I just recently thought I could as well use Amarok to copy my music files to my Samsung YP-U1.
    Well it did work great for my mp3 files, it did not work for my ogg files, complaining my Samsung YP-U1 not able to play them (well, sure it can). So I ended up copying with manual tools.
    Now my question is, does anybody else experiences this ? Anyone knows a solution ? Is this Amarok's fault or hal ?
    Well if it's Amarok's fault I may better ask for a solution on their mailinglist

    Maybe I yuo not understood, but I recommendate use command media-beep-player (pacman -S bmp) or XMMS player (command xmms).

  • Free download to listen ogg file

    Please let me know a free download to listen to a ogg file on my macbook pro.  Thx!

    Since I have Flip4Mac, I have not used the EasyWMV thing, but basically it is very limited in comparison to F4M. With F4M you get all the output formats available thru Quicktime.
    You'd need the Studio version HERE. All depends on whether you want a super capable encoder, or just the easy thing that will do 1 type of export with limited control. If you don't plan on doing this sort of stuff often, then that may be the way to go, but I'd want to try it out first.

  • Importing OGG files

    I have OGG files that I am not able to add to iTunes for some reason. Does anyone know how to transfer this format in order to be able to add them to iTunes.
    Thanks,
    James

    iTunes and iPod do not support OGG. You can get a third party plug-in as Niel suggested, which will make them playable in iTunes but will not help the iPod. If iPod is a consideration, you can use a program like Switch to convert them to MP3.

  • Burning playlists with ogg files

    For some reason, when I try to burn ogg files in my iTunes library (using xiph plugin they play fine from iTunes) the burning process simply skips them. I looked at the info of one of the files and it seems that iTunes thinks that ogg files are quicktime movies.
    Seems like a bug to me. Is there a way to fix this other than re-converting the ogg files to another format?

    If you wish to use iTunes, then convert your OGG files to one of the formats that iTunes supports. Use the converted ones for iTunes and save the OGGs for future players that can handle them.
    Ok dude. So you know, there are a number of reasons why I phrased my original question thusly, emphasis added:
    glarbl_blarbl wrote:

    I had already rejected that option before you kindly suggested it. To reiterate:
    *ogg files play in iTunes after installing xiph;
    *I am financially invested in my iTunes library, which I use to play break music at gigs -- it's excellent for this purpose;
    *I think ogg files are quantitatively better than the other alternative codecs;
    *it would be silly to re-encode those files just so I can make my girlfriend a mix-cd -- and I don't want duplicate songs in my library since I might accidentally play the second-generation file at a gig. Some of us have professional standards, you know
    Indeed I do hope that Apple reads these forums and especially bug reports. They would be wise to keep people like me happy, since I'm responsible for more than $5000 worth of business for them over the last five years or so.
    Again, though, I do think this is a pretty minor issue. It would just be nice if Apple could write a quick email to the guys at xiph pointing them in the right direction.

  • HTML 5 OGG FILES

    I'm really excited about HTML5!!!
    How do you get OGG files into the forumlua. Here is an example formula, but I want to use my own videos files:
    <video src="movie.ogg" controls="controls">
    your browser does not support the video tag
    </video>

    Here's one way
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/HTML5-Media-Players/Video.html
    The fallback in my code is SWF but it can just as easily be OGG - or both.
    The method of converting movies to OGV is on the same page.

  • Re: Itunes will not play OGG files.

    I am not being combative. I asked a simple question and got a stuck up answer. The I should have got back is apple does not feel like making Itunes play OGG files. It is more of a management descion then anything else.

    Hi Mac Dudes,
    I am not running Mac, but have the same problem. I have managed to get my music back by doing the following, hope this helps someone else (from my post in the windows section):
    To cut a long story short...
    Installed iTunes 7 over my existing 6.0.5 setup. Disaster.
    No audio, Audio card now seemed to have been disabled by iTunes 7 install (SoundBlaster Audigy).
    Rebooted and sound back but all audio played from iTunes 7 was distorted and impossible to listen to. Audio from Windows Media Player was fine.
    Uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes 7. Downloaded iTunes 6.0.5 from Apple.
    (Windows) http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
    or
    (Macintosh) http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605.html
    On launching iTunes 6.0.5 I received the following error: Cannot read iTunes Library.itl as created by newer version of iTunes (or something to that effect).
    Opened up my iTunes folder which I have on a separate partition and located the folder "Previous iTunes Libraries". I backed up the present .itl file into this folder (called it iTunes 7 fookup for reference) and then copied the latest .itl backup (which was iTunes Library 2006-09-13, yours may have a different date), back into the iTunes folder and renamed it to "iTunes Library.itl"
    Launched iTunes 6.0.5 and my old version of iTunes is now back to its former glory and my music (thank god) is now playing as before.
    <Rant Alert>Thanks for nothing Apple, that's 5 hours of my life I will never get back. As for iTunes 7, you can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

  • .ogg file returns a 404.3?

    Hi
    the following file appears as not found on the server even tough I can "see it". http://code.vikincas.com/pardo/assets/music/ogg/VALENTIN.ogg
    I have added the MIME type already like this,
    <staticContent>
    <mimeMap fileExtension=".ogg" mimeType="audio/ogg" />
    </staticContent>
    and I have checked that the .ogg files works locally before uploading it into the server.
    Is it a server thing?
    Help, please!!

    The ogg file isn't on the server (404 response), at least not in that location.<br />
    The mp3 file is there and Google Chrome used that for me.
    I'm not sure what you mean with "<i>I can see the file in the server through my text editor</i>" ?
    You can't use a text editor to verify the presence of a file, you need an FTP program to check which files are on the server.

  • Syntax to delete all .ogg files recursively [solved]

    damn.  is there an o'reilly book about 'find' yet?  there should be.  i read the man page not too long ago and realized that it's a whole damned file-manager unto itself.
    `man find` and search for '-delete'

  • [FEATURE REQUEST] - dlna client in Xperia WALKMAN Android app does not support flac or ogg files

    Hi, I have found a pretty bad bug in the dlna support in the WALKMAN android app for Xperia phones.
    Please could a mod or a community person who is in contact with the developers, pass this info on to them and ask them to please work on it.
    I have the latest updated Version 8.3.A.0.5 of the WALKMAN android app installed on a SONY XPERIA Z mobile phone and I have a dlna server set up and running on my local network.
    If I download, install and use the DNLA Total Media app available in the Google play store instead of the WALKMAN app, I can play flac and m4a files; no problem.
    However, if I use the WALKMAN app to browse to my dlna server and try to play flac or m4a files, I get a small black box on screen that says "Content not available."
    If I browse to and select an mp3 file instead, the WALKMAN app will play (stream) the mp3 file and no small black box will appear.
    So it looks like the dlna part of the SONY WALKMAN app is missing support for some audio file container types which are supported by default on the Android operating system and work natively in the WALKMAN app (I tested play back from internal storage.) I believe ogg format playback is missing also. Because it is not required by the dlna specification.
    Please improve file type support in the dlna client part of the WALKMAN app for XPERIA phones. People working in professional audio environments don't use mp3 anymore (And haven't done for over five years.)
    Thank You

    Thanks for the feedback!
    As you say, i believe the DLNA standard doesn't have any support for flac and ogg but i've seen some 3:rd party apps that can do it but i'm not sure if those uses DLNA in that case or just UPnP. I will forward your feedback though.
    The only solution for this that i know of today is to use a 3:rd party app or perhaps mount the share using SMB instead from Settings -> Storage.

  • Audacity 1.3.3, how to export OGG files? [SOLVED]

    I can't find the way to export files in ogg format using the latest Audacity (1.3.3). Even in the preferences menu it doesn't appear anymore (edit > preferences > file formats, I only see mp3, no WAV, FLAC, OGG,...) Then when exporting, I can't choose mp3 or ogg, just wav and others.
    Anybody knows how this new version works?
    Thanks.

    It is strange. I have the necessary libs installed, also tried deleting configuration files, but still the same. Downgrading to 1.3.2-beta solves the problem, though. Here are some screenshots so you see the problem:
    Audacity-1.3.2:
    Audacity-1.3.3:
    And when I select File > Export, 1.3.2 gives me options (wav, ogg, flac, mp3) while 1.3.3 gives me none
