Deciding that I have always been a Mac person it was only obvious that I get the iPhone for my job and pleasure. I have come across one major problem!!! I'm Japanese, and I live in Puna Hawaii. Though I speak english with no problem, the world I work in does not always speak english perfectly. I had assumed when buying this iPhone that I'd be able to write/text messages in other languages? So I have a $600.00 so called "state of the art" phone in my hand, yet I'm unable to text in Japanese!? Wassup with dat?
Please don't tell me I have to wait to iPhone launches in Asia before Apple puts Japanese "Hiragana" and other languages on their "state of the art" phones. Which at this point don't seem so state of the art if you ask me?

Actually Japanese fonts are in the right place. You should have no problem reading Japanese on the web, email, etc. But in this version input and user interface is English only. Presumably that will be modified as the iPhone is released for the European and Asian markets over the next 18 months or so.
A workaround for doing email several languages can be had by pointing the iPhone browser at this page:

Possibly something similar could be done for Japanese Kana, but it might not be very easy.

Ok, hopefully I have your attention. I have asked this about 5 times and never even got a response. It's somewhat frustrating.
Anyway, I'm working a system out with logic pro 8 and a MIDI controller to use it as a DJ performance rig and play my digital music live. With what I have figured out, only one thing stands in my way, and that's the MIDI capabilities of the software. I set key commands for my controller, but whenever I set them up for a specific song, they are held out through the whole application, not just a project. What I want to do calls for individual command sets in every song, so like knob R1 isn't controlling a flanger rate in all of my songs, but only for the project I call up. Is it possible to set up "song sets" like this in logic, and if so, how would I go about doing it?
If anyone else performs with logic live, please let me know so I can maybe get some ideas on techniques for performance. And if there are any good "remix-style" plug-ins out there, like a scratch or beat-juggling plug-in, let me know about that too.

As you've already found out, controller assignments are not song specific, they are part of the global preferences.
For the most part this makes sense ("Hmm, did I map that key command I always use on control=F9 to a different key in this song..?")
However, if you learn controller assignments to plugins, in general they only apply to the plugins on the channel of the selected track. In this way, if you have mapped MIDI CC #13 to flanger depth, then if you switch to a track that doesn't have a flanger on it, you can have CC #13 mapped to something else as well.
You can also arrange automation parameters based on the currently available tracks, so you can set up groups of parameters you want to control by assigning them as automation parameters and grouping them together in folders. I forget what this mode is called, but it's part of the MCU controller assignments handling, and it's useful.
Be aware though that Logic isn't really designed as a live performance tool, albeit it can be bent to do that - Ableton's Live does much better here.
There are lots of beat juggling plugins around - I like Audio Damage's Replicant, but you can also try the free Supatrigga, and I'm sure others will recommend stuff too (I also like Live's built-in Beat Repeat).

HT4557 I don't have this on my iPhone 4 = "Settings iPod". Help!

I'm trying to set up Home Sharing on my iPhone 4. The instructions say = "On your iPhone, tap Settings > iPod". Why would a setting for iPod be on my iPhone? If it should be there, I can't find it. I'm totally confused and frustrated with trying to set up Home Sharing. Would appreciate some help please.

On iOS 5/5.0.1/5.1 it will appear as Music instead of iPod, as Music and Vidoes now have separate applications.
So Settings > Music now.

Jon D, I am interested looking into your situation in more detail. Those file primitives (and others like "Search/Split String", "Get Date/Time String", etc...) shouldn't be actual files anywhere on the system (unless you are using the compatibility VI in the "_oldvers" llb which no longer does anything but return an error). Could you elaborate a little bit on the problem you experience with files of these names, and perhaps attach an example?
The problem was when I was printing the documentation for the VI as an HTML file. As part of the documentation, I would add the list of subVI's (Print->Print Contents->VI Documentation->List of SubVIs and Express VIs selected). When the HTML files were generated, if you looked at the HTML, where the Open/Create/Replace.vi would be listed in the subVI's list, would be a broken link, because no Open/Create/Replace.png coulld be created.
I do note that when I tried to replicate this with 8.5, that the Open/Create/Replace.vi doesn't cause a problem because it appears that primitives aren't added to the list of subVI's anymore with that print option.

Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects. If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button. To install over an existing system do the following:

An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.

3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

1) Open iTunes and sign in to the iTunes Store.
2) Select "View My Account" from the Store menu.
3) Enter your password and click the View Account button.
4) Click the Edit Payment Information button.
5) Select "None" as the payment type.
6) Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.

I just installed the latest iMovie 10.0.2. Please don't say "look at the help menu" - it doesn't help. This is radically different than the version I'd been using. For starters it automatically converts to mp4 rather than .mov - that's my 1st question

Sorry for the long headline - I'm new to the support community and thought that was the post! I've been happily using my old version of iMovie - I don't even know the number - I guess it was 11? I just installed the most recent 10.0.2 and it is radically different from what I've been using. For starters, whereas my uploaded video used to be in the lower section, and I would edit up above, now it's reversed. Whereas I used to click on the transitions and drag a blur or whatever to my movie right while I was editing, now it's on a different screen. And the easy old Export file button is gone, where you could choose setting, file size, export as Quicktime movie - all gone - now it converts to mp4 and I STILL can't figure out how to get it back to .mov

Thanks for running that test on the brand new library, jfinch420. I can add that Home Sharing seems to be otherwise working. Yesterday, as a test I shut off Home Sharing and rebooted the AppleTV and my iPhone Remote app stopped working. I reenabled Home Sharing and the app began working again. The Remote App requires Home Sharing to work. This would seem to indicate that Home Sharing on my AppleTV seems to be working. So the problem for me is very specifically that all network services work on my AppleTV except the ability to access my iTunes library.
I'm trying to think of what variables changed. iTunes was updated to v12.0.1.26 on October 16th, and there was an AppleTV update on November 17th, but my 2nd gen AppleTV is still running 6.2.1. There is no later OS for it. I was using my AppleTV to stream media from my iTunes library on the 26th. For the life of me I cannot identify what changed while I was away over the holiday. By November 28th, my AppleTV could no longer connect to my iTunes library.
In addition, my AppleTV frequently crashes and reboots when accessing preferences from time to time. It's likely related. In fact, last week I changed my library name to see if the AppleTV would notice. I did it again a moment ago and my AppleTV crashed every time I selected "Computers". I rebooted iTunes and the AppleTV and that fixed the crashing problem. I don't know what it means, but I'm throwing it out there for what it's worth.
I will check the following things next:
1) Connect iTunes & AppleTV via ethernet to rule out WiFi router issues.
2) Use a different iCloud account to enable Home Sharing.
3) Wait for the weekend when my friend can use his iCloud info to test home sharing between his laptop and my AppleTV.
4) Call Apple. Maybe there is a component on the AppleTV motherboard that has gone bad causing the problems.
BTW, I have an enormous library, too, but your test ruled out library size as an issue.

There's also a "quit" in the menubar. Once it's not active you can delete it.

I just installed LR CC and am having trouble opening catalogs where I followed the instructions to upgrade. Just posted a question about it.
Discovered a problem when I went looking for some images that were not included in the most recent catalog. After opening up a couple of older ones and upgrading, I went back to the most recent and couldn't opening. Message says it is not writable. And also says it may be due to incorrect permissions. If you have any suggestions for this, I would love to hear them.
