Oh No! Not Another Openbox Question

I want to change the Window type of a couple of applications so that they aren't affected by pressing the "show desktop" icon on my fbpanel. Also I have xcompmgr running and I'd like the applications to not have drop shadows so that they integrate better into the background.
The applications in question are gdeskcal and cairo-clock. Both are type normal.

If you want some apps not to have shadows, that's an xcompmgr issue. Openbox has nothing to do with it.
As for your first question, did you check the Openbox documentation to see if there is anything that Openbox provides in that sense? If you don't find it there (it's fairly exhaustive), then I'm afraid that's not Openbox either that is gonna be able to do that.

Oh no not another display question but here we go

I bought the new mb and did not really notice the display to be horrible mine I am satisfied with, but yes there is a but. A friend of mine wanted to switch to mac after all kinds of issues with windows another story any way he looked at my display and said this is horrible I asked what is wrong he pointed out that all of the capitol letters are fuzzy at the top and he is correct if you open word or excel or even on web pages they are fuzzy has anyone else noticed this? We went to the apple store to get his new machine the mbp 15" and he looked at them and noticed the very same thing on all of the machines in the store iMacs, mba but not the 17"mbp he looked at my 17" mbp 2.33 and did not see this but it is a matte screen. Does anyone have any idea why it would be on these new screens is it just a glossy screen issue?

I am not sure what you are experiencing, but I believe the pixel pitch on the 17" are lower, therefore resulting in a more smooth display. The pixel pitch, however, is still very low on the 13" compared to other displays, so you would have to sit really close to the screen in order to see each pixel.
Are you new to Mac? If so, it may be the different kind of font smoothing that is in the Mac OS X. They higher correct smoothness instead of readability. I do also prefer the Windows Clear Type font smoothing - at least for smaller fonts. While larger fonts seem to appear nicer in Mac OS X. Also (non-true type) fonts are better smoothed out in Mac OS X.
If you are looking at small font, the font smoothing might be turned off. In order to (almost) deal with the problem, you could lower the font smoothing size in System Preferences under Appearance.

(not) another bootcamp question!

Well after reading many posts and seeing the repetitive nature of them I find myself reluctant to add to the list...
However... Despite my trawling and repeat attempts keep failing dismally! So appologies in advance at asking what I am sure is a repeat question!
My Aim is to install drivers for camera and sound card for Windows 7.
I have an iMac mid 2007 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Boot camp v3.04
The steps taken so far is this:
1. Ran apple software update (no results returned)
2. Opened Bootcamp and selected option to install from disc (the option to download drivers returned an error cant remember excatly)
3. Created a partition 200gb
4. Installed windows 7 on partition
Now windows seems to run perfectly with the exception of the sound issue and missing drivers for the camera, peformance counter & usb input device.
The issue I have is I no longer have the Snow Leopard disc, after reading previous posts I have downloaded multiple versions of bootcamp, 3.####, 4.#### & 5.####. When I run the setup.exe it comes back with an error saying "this version of bootcamp is not intended for this computer model"
One thing I have recently read is that in Windows there should be a boot camp icon on the start menu tray, this doesnt seem to be there and when I navigate to unistall programs it isnt there either, could this be a potential sign/issue?
So anyway, I am looking for some kind of a solution to the problem, if anybody can help?,

Well, I have now managed to succeed and thought I would share the simple solution with anybody that may be having a similar issue.

It will also take you to the download page so you get the correct verision in my case 4.4033, run the installer and it should install drivers for everything!

We've had several instances where we have had to run chkdsk on arrays with over 1m files. Average completion time is approximately 72 hours. The maximum downtime window they have available is the 64 hour weekend window. File sizes and number of files were
much smaller then than they are now.
The idea, in theory, was to use VHDs to compartmentalize the data into smaller volumes which could be more easily managed. It would also improve performance when transferring these compartments of data as they would use sequential read/write rather than
fragmented/random. This idea was never fleshed out in entirety, they don't split data up into little containers, but simply into big ones per project. Hence the 11m files in one container that I am currently trying to diagnose.
Some other important facts: The VHD in question is mounted in B:/project/ as this server also allows remote workers to log in, but they are restricted to see only data in E:. Disks A-D are hidden via group policy.
Update: icacls is failing on a large number of files within this dataset. I counted the path characters to ensure it wasn't the 255 character limit I was encountering and verified that the paths being blocked are only about 150 characters long. Once it finishes,
I'll have to try taking ownership and then re-running it. At this point I still have no idea how long to expect. I'm running out of time as the environment will be in use again at 9AM tomorrow morning.

Bubble Event firing in one company but not another

Having spent the past 2 days trying to get the installer working (which it finally does thanks to people on this forum!), I've finally pushed my add-in out to people this morning.
Unfortunately, the bubbleevent seems to be being ignored in all companies bar the test company.
The code is below. The nominal codes do not begin with "720", so that section is not being fired in either company.
So, my question is, why would a bubble event work in one company but not another?

"You did not answer this question completely" warning

Hi All,
Sorry for bombarding the forum of late.
I have another issue coming up on this current piece. I have
a set of questions that are able to be answered in a random order
through a grid type layout. A little like jeopardy. The problem
hapens like this: when the learner clicks on the initial Q they
jump to the appropriate slide and answer the question no problem,
and once answered, they jump back to the question grid. This works
fine, unfortunately, when they click the next question they jump ok
but the question displays an error "you did not answer this
question correctly" and they can't click the choices. I believe i
checked and unchecked all the appropriate places, but I am not
sure.
Any advice would be great.

Have you configured your Quiz Settings to allow backward
movement? That's required when the user is not moving forward
linearly.
You should also play with the options in the Required
dropdown in the Quiz Settings until things work as desired. That
seems to control whether Captivate lets you jump over questions or
not, as your random access scheme would require.
I imagine it needs to be set to "Optional - the user can skip
this quiz" but there may be another setting that also works for
your needs.

Another newb question: multiple virtual servers

Hi, I have yet another ignorant question. I have several unrelated web projects that I am working on, and I would like to be able to set up a virtual server for each one for testing purposes, such as: http://project1, http://project2, http://project3. Can someone tell me if this is doable, and if there are any tutorials/resources on this for someone who has 0 experience running a web serer? Sorry for being so ignorant!

Yes, it is doable.
You can setup virtual server either by IP or by name.
If you have one IP, and want to set them up by name (ex. http://project1, http://project2, http://project3) you can do so easily with this type of configuration:

a) all virtual servers share the same HTTP listener
b) which virtual server serves the request depends on the $HOST request header send by the client. Sun Web Server does the matching for you. It will match $HOST vs. the virtual server's host attribute. Depending on which site you connect to the right virtual server will be used.
c) if the $HOST request header does not match any of the virtual servers, then the default virtual server defined in the HTTP listener will be used.
To create a virtual server, use the Admin GUI, access the configuration, and then add new virtual server. Or use the following CLI command.
wadm> create-virtual-server --config=myconfig --http-listener-name=http-listener-1 --document-root=/www/docs/myserver.com --host-pattern=myserver.com --log-file=../logs/myserver.com-error_logs myserverHost pattern will be used for matching. Some of this elements might be optional.

Can login with one laptop, not another

Two (long-winded) questions for you all:
1) Anyone know why I would be able to login to our domain from one laptop with a LEAP-enabled wireless card, but cannot login with another LEAP-enabled laptop sitting right next to it? I have pre-auth turned on for both laptops. Both laptops will query the ACS to get an address. Both pass 802.11/x credentials and receive IP addresses. One laptop (a Lenovo S12) can login users just fine. The other laptop is a Dell and will come back with "Domain is not available" after passing all of the pre-auth credentials.
I've made sure that the external database is pointing to the right groups in AD, but I do see authentication failures pop up on the WCS. The following is common:
Client '00:21:6a:28:56:4c (Admin, 10.172.1.14)' which was associated with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'AP102' is excluded. The reason code is '4(802.1X Authentication failed 3 times.)'.
Remember, though, pre-auth is telling me that it does pass 802.1X authentication, and you can see that it does get an IP, so this error is conflicting. I also get a lot of these, too:
Client '00:21:6a:28:60:a8 ([email protected], 0.0.0.0)' which was associated with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'AP102' is excluded. The reason code is '4(802.1X Authentication failed 3 times.)'.
I understand that it is trying to pass authentication for a device with no IP, but why does one login get an IP (as seen on the first message) and not another login (second message)? I get this with the same user name, not just when different people are trying. I can login to the Lenovo with [email protected], but I turn around and get "Domain is not available" on the Dell with the exact same AD account.
2) Here's another one that's baffling me: I have a user named [email protected]. When trying to auth to the domain, I see the following pop up in the event log on WCS (A LOT):
Client '00:1c:bf:96:d3:6a (..m [email protected], 0.0.0.0)' which was associated with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'AP122' is excluded. The reason code is '4(802.1X Authentication failed 3 times.)'.

Why is it that the user tries to login with "[email protected]", but the controller thinks he's trying to use random ones, shown above?! His actual login name is no where in the logs at all. Thoughts on this one?!
To throw another kink into this, we can login all day long with other devices, like iPhones and Android phones and Linux (on the exact same machines that had previously "failed", mind you) and never get authentication errors or random drops. It's making me think it is a Windows driver issue, but I can have a driver work on one laptop and not another that is the exact same model... It's very confusing at the moment for me, sending me spinning in circles to try and find what's going on.

What is the error you get while trying to connect like the network requires network key, or low wireles signal etc?
Also what is the model number of your router?

I need underlying field name (not alias), view that includes it and table that it comes from.

Application runs under 1 account not another.. 10.4.11

I have a G5 with 10.4.11 with multiple user accounts. I have a application which will work under 1 account but not another. I've erased and re installed the software under the account I want it to work but it still does not work. I erased the software and all the associated folders for preferences and such and it still does not work.
I've tried as well to fix permissions and set all access to read write for all users on various folders for preference and plists... still nothing. My last resort is to archive and install the OS again.
Any direction would be helpful.

I've encountered something similar with FujiFinePix for downloading pictures from a camera. It will only work in my admin. account, but the camera's not mine.

Problem with SMTP from one computer but not another

I have an iMac connected directly to my network via Ethernet and a MacBook Pro which connects via wireless. I have a program installed on my iMac that sends me alerts via e-mail, and it works just fine. When I try and use Mail, however, on my MBP with the exact same settings and credentials, it fails. To make this even more perplexing, Mail works fine from my office on a different network.
To work around this, I use Comcast's SMTP server on my laptop, but why would my regular e-mail provider's SMTP work on one machine and not another on the same network? The only difference is one is connected via Ethernet and the other by wireless.
I use a Time Capsule as my router and wireless access point. Has anyone got an idea about what's causing this?

Please report the relationship, if any, of the "regular e-mail provider's SMTP" and your ISP? If Comcast is your ISP, they regularly block use of Port 25, but if you have selected Use Default Port in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information for the Outgoing Server, then it may be making the wrong choice to work with Comcast. Regardless of the ISP, for this regular account click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, choose Edit Server List, then click on the Advanced Tab that will then be seen and choose Use Custom Port, then enter the proper port directly -- that port is probably Port 587, but that could depend on the advisory of the email provider for using their SMTP.
