That it's irrelevent to those with a fairly signifiicant knowledge and skill base may or may not be a topic for this board. I suggest that a pre-purchase warning to the dummys - or even a post-purchase update - is the ethical course of action, but I can see how that's beyond the purview of this context. Sorry to impose it.

Should have read the label before I bought it
I'm an absolute beginner at FCE (I've opened the box, that's about it). I have occasionally produced videos using iMovie 09 but found it a bit limiting so thought I'd go up a notch. I don't want to spend much (any) more money because my forays into movie production are few and far between and the ROI on spending lots of money would be years.
I've just bought the software and loaded it up. Now I'm about to start some of the tutorials when I get a mo'. The Mac's I want to use are a G5 running 10.4.11 and a MacbookPro running Leopard. With the software I bought a couple of books and have started to read one by Tom Wolsky called "Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop". A few pages into this book I started to worry that perhaps I've done the wrong thing. The first major problem appears to be that the output from FCE is going to be pretty useless unless I buy a studio monitor (or at the very least plug in a TV). So I had a look around and these things seem to come it at around £1200 plus! Also, reading some forum posts, it seems you have to shell out another grand or so to buy a capture card to drive the video monitor, and we haven't even got onto sound yet. Eeuuw!
I have a TV I could use. It's a Samsung HD which has SCART, HDMI and a "PC" interface (the latter a 15 pin D connector). My camcorder is a Panasonic HDC TM-700. Tom says you should plug the camcorder into a firewire port and the video monitor (TV) into the camcorder; but the camcorder doesn't have a firewire connection so it appears I can't put it between a Mac and the monitor (TV).
So question 1 is: am I going to be able be able to use the TV as a monitor without spending a lot of money? I should say that the G5 has an ATI Radeon 9600 card in it with Dual DVI connectors, one driving a 30" monitor, the other one isn't in use.
Question 2 is: if I don't use a video monitor (or TV) am I wasting my time altogether?
Question 3 is: I'm not too bothered about editing HD, SD should be fine for my purposes. However, should I want to work in HD it seems that I can only capture HD footage on an Intel Mac. I do have the MacBook Pro which is Intel. If I do the capturing on the MacBook Pro can I then bring it over onto the G5 to work on?

Although I have the Panasonic TM-700 most of the video work comes to me from a client's Sanyo Somethingorother camcorder. It's mainly instructional stuff about the equipment his company makes. They arrive on a memory stick, usually as MP4 files at 1280 x 740 or 640 x 480 (he gets confused with buttons so you never know what's coming). My job is to cut them up to make a meaningful 'story' and add titles, transitions and background music, the final movie is then delivered either via YouTube (which I embed into his website) or occasionally on looping DVDs for kiosks at trade shows. I also embed some of his movies into Flash presentations. It's not colour critical work, as long as the viewer can understand what's going on.
There are a few things wrong with using iMovie for this. The model of MBP that I have doesn't handle transparent PNGs properly (discussed elsewhere on these forums) so titling and watermarking using these files isn't possible (unless I take the job home and do it on an iMac, which is a pain).
I import a lot of stills and iMovie seems to make a mess of these, washing out the colours and generally making them look terrible, again lots of others seem to complain about this.
There are other things I find limiting. I'm hoping FCE will resolve these issues.
98% of my work is DTP and web design and the G5s are still very capable for this. However I will upgrade them later this year to MacPros which should be a better vehicle for video work as well. I can use the MBP but it tends to go out of the office for days at a time so not really practical.
Anyway thanks for your help, I'll go on and do the tutorials and see how I get on with FCE on the G5, without a video monitor or TV for the time being at least.

You would have to be more specific. You though you were getting only one phone and you somehow have MORE than one phone???? If you only have one phone, you are not on a Family plan. You may be on the More Everything plan, but you can only have one phone and still be on the More Everything plan. You do not have to have multiple phones to be on the More Everything plan. It all depends on how you want to use the phone.
Yes, Verizon has single line plans, but they do not have all of the same features as the More Everything plan. Single line plans are not the best solution for all customers who only want one phone. -

I just got a new iMac desktop. I need to install Lightroom on it. I had it on my laptop and I cannot find the disc anywhere. Shouldn't I be able to download it online with a key code from the original program? I cannot get thru in chat support with adobe and I tried to call and it doesn't work either. This is my only hope someone help.

I purchased CS5 design premium in 2011 and when purchased i was under the impression that there were 2 downloads available. I currently switched to a new computer and would like to use my additional download of the program, however it is showing that none is available.

So, I've always considered myself a guy in the know for all things Apple. People are always coming to me for help with things as it relates to thier iPhones/ iPods/ iPads/ iOS and generally I can help them. I am an Amercan living abroad in Ghana, so a lot of ExPats bring their things to me for support. Being abroad, I find that I have need to carry mutiple phone lines (something that I would never do in the States). So I have three iPhones --my 4, 4S, and 5 (as soon as I get back to the States in a few months, I HAD planned to purchase the 5S).
Anyway, friends all laughed at me because they were all on some version of iOS 7 and I was happily content with iOS 6. I wasnt a fan of the new iOS and wasn't interested in updating. However, newly updated apps now forced me to update and so I did. I really should have read the thousands of dissuccuins first, as then I would have known that some iPhone 4S devices have issues. Unfortionately, the update to iOS 7.0.4 killed my wifi and bluetooth. Thinking it a software issue, I did a clean factory restore and sewt up the device as new. No luck, still not able to connect to any wifi or use my bluetook headset. I googled until my fingers hurt trying to find a solution; none of the alleged fixes do anything for me. I'm so disappointed in Apple.
I have no idea what to do. And I'm seriously reevaluating my opinon of Apple products. Too many people online say that contacting Apple hasn't really accomplished anything as iOS 7 updates seems to have effected the hardware. Which really ***** for someone like me.Apple guys are deleting posts. I have found my posts have been deleted. Apple should MUST let us downgrade at least to previous release from current which was working fine.

P2 "I should have known better."
I rented a P2 card to finally shoot something on one. Back at the computer, everyone told me, go to import and boom it's that easy-your clips are in the project...NOT.
First, the card didn't show up on my desktop when I plugged my HVX200, firewire, into my laptop. I thought I was missing a driver or something so I downloaded a bunch of stuff I didn't need, evidently. I wasn't aware the import function was now a part of Log and Capture.
Anyway, I held the Mode button on the camera and the P2 card mounted like a drive.
My question. I dragged some stuff off the P2 card. I have a folder on my desktop (I returned the P2 card) with .MXF files (Audio), .XML files (Clips), .BMP (Icons), and .MXF (video). I don't have the ever important text files. I guess I didn't drag those over but I grabbed everything, I thought. I fumbled through 'Log and Transfer' but I can't figure out how to get these clips into my project. Am I screwed?
I know this P2 stuff has been beat to death but I'm a dumb fisherman who should have read the manual first. Thanks.Gah, you know what? That lastclip.txt file is pretty important. I was right in the tutorial. I thought that importing would work without it, but FCP needs it.

i am replacing ram in an early 2009 imac. easy - right? but the pulling on the tabs didn't work. i have had the ram sticks out before; but now they don't budge. should i apply more pressure? use a tool to pull harder? will the tabs break off?

the computer has beem working for years after my 1st ram removal; but i may have pushed them back too hard. i did pull firmly - tried pulling up slightly; tried tugging on the sides of the stick; pulling in pulses. the only thing i have not tried is using needle nose plyers with protection on the tab film itself.
have you had the pulling harder ever work? or break the tab? -

It is up to you. If you are worried about problems and OS X Mountain Lion is working properly, maybe it is better to leave OS X Mountain Lion until Apple makes OS X Mavericks more stable. Initial versions are never the best ones, and you may find bugs in OS X Mavericks, so you should consider the option of upgrading to OS X Mavericks later. Also, OS X Mountain Lion still receives security updates and it is still supported.
If you want to upgrade, continue the download. Make sure you make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading, and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com -
When starting Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 I am all of a sudden getting a message that says "One or more of the scratch disks don't have read/ write access" and now the app won't operate - how do I fix this so I can use Final Cut Pro?
Glad you found the answer. But something seems wrong. FCP should be able to assign the scratch disk to your startup drive. It's not advisable, but it should be possible. You might want to try and figure out what's going on before what ever's going on cause other problems.

I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel? Is Parallel in fact the best way to go?
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.

FTPS: Does PIISUSER should have more roles?

We are using FTPS to connect external IP from De Militerized Zone.
We were using De-centralized adaper engine in De Militerized Zone. we are testing the FTPS with plain File to File.
Are we supposed to use any other "xi adapter" or proxy to in the interface to connumicate external IP?
We are getting this error:
MP: Exception caught with cause com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Connection refused
I know It doesn't make any sence, eventhough I'm asking you... Does PIISUSER should have more authorizations to send FTP out???
Thanks for Ur time.,In general the ftp errors that you are seeing are passed through the OS. PIISUSER doesn't even play into it, this is happening at the OS level PIISUSER is just an internal SAP userid.
1) check that you can execute the ftps call from the OS with the same userid and password
2) check that you are closing your connection when you are done with it in your directory config

My macbook pro is failing to read a new sd card with movies recorded on it. Any ideas please? A previously used SD card has downloaded without problems. I have tried using a card reader as well as downloading from the video camera itself, neither works.
I can view the latest recordings on the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it but didn't think of that at the time. Why Report Balance on ONLY One Card?
I keep reading the suggestion of allowing only one CC to report a balance of 9% or less each month (then PIF), but to PIF your other cards to $0 balance before their statement dates. Essentially only reporting a balance on one card per month. Why?? W
