OHS for RHEL 5.3

Where does one go about getting the right version of the Oracle HTTP Server for Redhat Enterprise Linux RHEL 5.3? The database version is 11gR1.
The version at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_linuxsoft.html is not compatible. The installer says "Checking operating system version: must be redhat-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3, redhat-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4, redhat-Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3, redhat-Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 or SuSE-9"
Thanks

Hi Vikas,
So does this mean that the OHS needs to be installed in its own Oracle_home? Yes you'll definitely want to install into it's own home.
Also, typically I install the OHS using a specific account, i.e I create an 'ohs' account rather than using the Oracle account, this helps to insulate you from any 'whoops I typed the wrong thing' type of errors.
I don't see this library anywhere, any idea where it comes from? It should be available as an RPM on your RHEL disks, alternatively check to see if you have libdb already installed as it may be that you have an older version. In my experience I've often been able to symlink to a more recent version of libdb and have the OHS successfully work (ideally you will want to use the correct lib version, however I can certainly say I've had it work with newer versions which I've just created a symbolic link for).
Hope this helps,
John

    My Oracle Support ... and only if you have a paid-up support contract.  Actually, I'm not sure 9i would be available even then.  10g is only available to those with a paid-up sustaining support contract.  9i is so old (hasn't been supported in this millennium) I wouldn't be surprised it is not available at any price.  Further, I doubt it was ever certified for RHEL 5.  Hard to tell since the documentation isn't even available .....
    Just out of curiosity, why would you be needing such an antique?

  • Oracle 9.2.0.6 support for RHEL 4 AS update 4

    Hi All,
    Where can i get information on the support matrix for oracle 9.2.0.6 for Red hat Enterprise Linux 4 Advanced server update 4. The document at http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html does not give information on the 'update' versions (update 3, update 4 etc). Please advise.
    Regards,
    Kishore

    You must have the minimum update specified by oracle for any OS and as long as you stay on same release, it is supported. Oracle doesn't provide support info at different update levels instead it specify the minimum update which is required for you to have the support.
    Check the minimum update requirement for RHEL 4 and if you are on that or above that, you are fine.

    Have your corporate credit card ready when you begin the process of opening the SR.
    Oracle will be happy to take your money for providing the service.
    Is there no Archive on the net from where I can download this Media???
    No. Old products are gone from public acccess.

  • HIT for RHEL 7

    When is support comming for RHEL 7 based installations ? We are getting ready to turn up a RHEL 7 based datacenter and we can't seem to find a HIT for Equallogic

    you made me smile. el 7.1 is right in front of the door, and still no sign of dells great hit kit. if you think, how long it took dell in the past to update the hitkit for example from el 6.4 to 6.5 ... 6+ months. dunno if theres a version for the latest el6 yet, somehow i feel like heres none for sure.
    equallogic linux support is a very special story... i little bit overdone but...: nearly every el cheapo iscsi san is better in that term. or simply doesnt need a a special driver.
    for me, i am done with equallogic after 4 years with several different arrays (61xx, 4xxx - 1G / 10G - SSD only). only trouble, buggy firmwares, unbelievible release times for hit kits.
    expect a sales guy who tries to sell you enterprise storage contacting you ;) compellent.

    Hello Guys,
    I want to install Oracle® Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86-64 in RHEL 5
    Please experience people guide me ... please don't give me http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm (Oracle® Database Installation Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86-64) link i already gone through but it's to much in depth and not able to understand what is that i can use from this.
    My Machine is having 12GB RAM and it's 64bit machine.
    So please provide me steps that only relate to my oracle installation. I just want to do simple installation without database and my machine not have graphical interface also.
    Send me your generic steps that i can run on my machine. if you want information about my system specification please ask.
    So please people help me out... i am really thankful to you guys .....
    Thanks ,
    ORACLE DBA P

    That also good idea man. thanks for your valuable advice.
    I have confusion here ...
    3. Changes to be made to Kernel parameters
    After installing above mentioned packages, we need to change some Kernel parameters and make them match to Oracle requirements. Parameters which should be changed are shown below
    shmmax     2147483648
    shmmni     4096
    shmall     2097152
    shmmin     1
    semmsl     250
    semmns     32000
    semopm     100
    semmni     128
    file-max     65536
    ip_local_port_range     1024 65000
    rmem_default     1048576
    rmem_max     1048576
    wmem_default     262144
    wmem_max     262144
    We do all these changes in the /etc/sysctl.conf file by adding these lines to that file:
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmni=4096
    kernel.sem=250 32000 100 128
    fs.file-max=65536
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range=1024 65000
    net.core.rmem_default=1048576
    net.core.rmem_max=1048576
    net.core.wmem_default=262144
    net.core.wmem_max=262144
    Question: What will be my value for this as my system is 64bit so this all parameter is ok if i put all straight ?
    ----> Setting Shell limits for the Oracle UserTo improve the performance of the software on Linux systems, you must increase the following shell limits for the oracle user:
    1. Add the following lines to /etc/security/limits.conf file
    oracle soft nproc 2047
    oracle hard nproc 16384
    oracle soft nofile 1024
    oracle hard nofile 65536
    2. Add the following lines to /etc/pam.d/login file
    session required /lib/security/pam_limits.so
    session required pam_limits.so
    3. In order to use Oracle Software, we need to make a change in “oracle” user’s buffer size and number of opened file descriptors. In order to do it, we add below lines to /etc/profile file
    if [ $USER = "oracle" ]; then
    if [ $SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
    ulimit -p 16384
    ulimit -n 65536
    else
    ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536
    fi

    Question: this things also i need to change ?

    Let me know the correct place where i can open support ticket with Microsoft or any way for resolution?Thanks in advance,Rakesh

    Hi Rakesh,
    " To enable key/value pair (KVP) infrastructure, install the hypervkvpd rpm package from your RHEL ISO. Alternatively the package can be installed directly from RHEL respositories.
      In Windows Server 2012 R2, the key/value pair (KVP) infrastructure might not function correctly without a Linux software update. Contact your distribution vendor to obtain the software update in case you see problems with this feature. "

  • Connect addin for RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to convert the .deb package of Adobe Connect add-in to .rpm to install on RHEL, tryed with Alien, but does not work.
    Anyone knows why the Adobe, that always lauched your applications to most commons Linux packages versions, like: .rpm and .tar.gz, is packing this important add-in only in the Debian / Ubuntu format?
    Too many companies uses RHEL or SuSe Linux, the Debian / Ubuntu are very used in Academic environments, wherever...
    I'm waiting for a good suol to help me convert this package...
    Thanks by attention,
    Ricardo de Aquino Borges

    HeywardDrummond,
    I'm sad to know that your idea is only justify the NO packaging of a new (rpm or tar.gz) addin version. Being from the commercial or financial I understand your way of thinking, is a matter of necessity...
    Oh, yes the market share!
    According to your spreadsheet shows a percentage of 0.7and 0.8 for Mobile that have two versions (iOS that "does not" support the Flash Player, and the Android) great!
    In contrast to the statistics, Linux has more than 5% of this market share and has only a single version for the addin. That was only developed because of the formal request made by the Brazilian government, where the company I work, actively participated.
    Soon there will be a big pressure for a Linux version of Connect Application Server, (as the Flash Media Server already has the Linux version), due to the new market (the area of education), that is very interested in this valuable tool (Adobe Connect), but is synonymous with Linux....
    Anyway I do not care their arguments, because this is a question of programming relatively easy to solve, a good Linux developer will be happy to carry more one version of the addin.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • RAID configurations for RHEL partition

    We have RHEL 5.x in our production environment using VMware which is configured on RAID using RAID 1, RAID 5 & RAID 10. I had couple of queries with RAID configuration:
    1) Is it possible for a RHEL partition to have 2 RAID configurations, like some part of partition on RAID 1 and the remaining on RAID 5?
    2) How to identify the RAID configurations used by a RHEL partition.
    I hope, I have been able to explain the problem.
    Requesting a reply to my query.
    Regards

    1) Is it possible for a RHEL partition to have 2 RAID configurations, like some part of partition on RAID 1 and the remaining on RAID 5?
    No. RAID configurations work on the block level and do not use logical partitions. You can however partition a RAID volume.
    2) How to identify the RAID configurations used by a RHEL partition.
    Depends what you are using. If you have a hardware RAID, it is transparent to the OS and cannot be seen without using any hardware specific host adapter utilities. If it is software, it depends on mdadm, LVM or BTRFS. What are you using?
    P.S. you will most likely do not want to use RAID 5 unless you have special hardware controller to deal with RAID 5 checksums, etc. It's definitely not a solution for large storage, since it will take days to rebuild in case of a failure.
