OID Attributes question
OID domain is being set up for hr.mycompany.com
Users and Groups container will be set under hr.mycompany.com
Please confirim attributes for following
dc=com
dc=mycompany
1) should "hr" be set up as OU as below
ou=hr,dc=mycompany,dc=com
OR dc=hr,dc=mycompany,dc=com
2) objectclass attributes for dc=mycompany are domain,top,orclSubscriber
Is above ok?
3) For hr to be OU, what should be the objectclass for it?
it will be good if you are adding HR as OU , in case if you have IT or someother Organization Unit it will can be easily added and identified.
Once you add it as OU autimatically all required class will be added automatically , further if you have any custom attribute you can add your own custom class

I need to created a new attribute in OID and noticed that on the "General" tab (while in the Oracle Directory Manager / Schema Manager) that the "Size" input field will only allow for a "Maximum Size Value" of 999999999. I need 2147483648.
Then I noticed in the following documentation, the following:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b15998/schema_overview.htm#OIMUR0605
Sizing of Attribute Values
Attribute syntax does not put any specific size constraint on attribute values. You can, however, specify the size of the attribute value when defining the attribute. Some attributes in Oracle Internet Directory may have size constraints defined, however length characteristics of an attribute are not enforced.
So if I understand this correctly it does not matter what the value of the "Size" (Maximum size of value) is, because OID ignores them. How then do you control that the length of an attribute value does not exceed a defined length? Or am I missing something?
BHello Wee Ming:
The attribute size for uniquemember is 720.
Thanks,
Jay Thanks for the prompt reply...but what does 720 represents? Characters? Lines?
Sorry that I had to ask this question. -
Hello, people!
I have question about auditing in Oracle Internet Directory.
1. I turn audit on in my OID.
2. Restart OID.
3. Searching for Audit Log Entries by Using ldapsearch. The DN for the audit log container is cn=auditlog. To search for audit log entries, perform a subtree or one-level search, with the container object cn=auditlog as the base of the search. Work fine.
4. But when i add some user to some group, i get record like:
orclSequence=348,cn=auditlog
objectclass=top
objectclass=orclauditoc
orcluserdn=cn=orcladmin
orcleventtype=Modify
orclauditmessage=Modifying entry cn=XMLP_ADMIN,cn=Groups,dc=rd,dc=local
orclsequence=348
orclopresult=Success
orcleventtime=20091125141137z
Did any one knows, how determine what changes done?
Thanks,

OID Attributes Disappear After Schema Import
I'm running OID 11.1.1.5, and am importing the schema of another OID instance (10g). I had originially tried to import the whole schema - took all the attributes and object classes and imported them in one ./ldapmodify command via file with the correct format:
output schema:
./ldapsearch -h <> -D <> -w <> -p <> -b cn=subschemaSubentry -s base -v "objectclass=*"
import schema:
./ldapmodify -h <> -D <> -w <> -p <> -c -f <>
the file format looked like so for each attribute and object class:
dn: cn=subschemasubentry
changetype: modify
add: attributetypes
attributetyptes: ( <nnn> NAME ' ' SYNTAX ' ' SINGLE VALUE )
dn: cn=subschemasubentry
changetype: modify
add: objectclasses
objectclasses: ( <nnn> NAME '' SUP tup STRUCTURAL MUST ( ) MAY ( ) )
After running this file I saw the following behavior:
- many of the attempts returned "object / attribute already in use"
- the attributes were no longer viewable in the schema tab
- i could see the object classes that were imported
- the object classes contained entries of the attributes that were supposed to be created
- attributes within the object class contained none of the required values (OID, Syntax, etc)
- when i tried to edit the attributes from within the object classes, it throws an error and all attributes disappear from the objectclass
- OID becomes hosed
I have a full backup of the instance that I revert to while trying to debug this issue. My questions are-
1. Has anyone else run into this?
2. Any idea what the root cause is?
3. If so, how do you recover?
4. Is OID recoverable after this kind of behavior, or is a restore required?Looks like I was able to resolve my issue! Some of the attribute add fields had a SPACE in after the quote in the DESC value.
Rather than:
DESC 'some description'
It had:
DESC ' some description'
Hope that helps another poor soul. This led to major application-wide destruction if not done correctly; very little error checking on the scripts side. -

Hello, can you provide me some example on how to use this code? i tried putting this code in a field in a table however it doesn't do any changes in my report, the header still don't repeat.
i'm aware of the word functionality to repeat a header, but due to the structure of my table, that method will changes the output of my report. the reason is i have a looping condition in that header, so if i tried to repeat it, the looping also repeats.
to summarize my table outline:
<HEADER1>---repeating already
<HEADER2 with looping condition>---> the one that i want to repeat
both headers belongs to a one table
i tried separating the header 2 to another table but it destroys my report output
thanks in advance! :)Hi

OID Licensing Question (with ODS EE)
Hello. I am currently using OID (11.1.1.6) for my naming service (instead of tnsnames). According to Oracle you are granted a restricted-use license for using OID "... if users use the Directory Naming feature to configure Oracle Net Services." Since this is what I am doing, I I am under the impression that I do not have to license Oracle on the server with OID as long as it is the only thing on that server (which it is).
My company is looking at purchasing "Employee" Oracle Directory Services Enterprise Edition licenses (environment is all Oracle DB Enterpirse Edition, 10gR2 and 11gR2) so that we can setup chaining between OID and Microsoft AD so that user roles/permissions can be assigned through AD via AD groups.
My question is: since I will no longer be using OID strictly for connection resolution, and even though we will purchase ODS EE, will I be forced to license my server that is only running OID? I would think that this wouldn't be the case, but I always prefer to know ahead of time when it comes to Oracle and licensing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DCHi Saad;
I belive you can get the bestest answer from oracle support only. By the way you can also og a SR and confirm your issue wiht oracle support too.

Multi value attribute question
Hello there,
Our application would like to have a multi value attribute in DS11.1.1.7.0 on SLES platform. But here is my question..
1. Can i have a one single attribute with value like companyCode: ABC,XYZ,QWE,RTY
2. OR , can i have like below..
CompayCode: ABC
CompanyCode: XYZ
CompanyCode: QWE
CompanyCode: RTY
which is the best method for LDAP server performance?
ThanksHi,
Multi-valued attribute is supported OOTB by LDAP and it seems simpler&better (possibility to have better indexing, more efficient to add/delete values) to use the second option, especially if you need to search for entries based on one of the attribute value. By default, LDAP attributes are multi-valued in the LDAP schema so you can store several values for companyCode.
Note: attribute values in an LDAP attribute are unordered, so choose the primary option if you need to maintain ordering across attribute values.

We have a dev and a test portal server, and we have been successfully using the following code to read custom OID atributes. ie We have created our own LDAP schema/class with some of our own attributes. Then doing the following:
PortletRenderRequest pReq = (PortletRenderRequest)request.getAttribute(HttpCommonConstants.PORTLET_RENDER_REQUEST);
String flag = pReq.getUser().getPropertyValue("myflag");
This is working quite fine in our dev server, but does not work in our test server. The "flag" variable comes out as null in the test environment.
As far as I can tell everything is configured and setup exactly the same. As this is someone else's code that I am maintaining I am not quite sure where to start looking. Can someone point me in the right direction on where to look to work out how this "getPropertyValue" is supposed to work?Hello Amarys,
- In order to add Custom Attributes to Portal Database (default Java), you dont have to do attribute mapping in the XML. It is applicable for LDAP scenarios only.
- You need to define Administrator / Self Managed Custom Attributes based on who views / modifies [UME Custom Attributes|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp2/helpdata/en/44/0316d50bbe025ce10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm]
- You can use the UME API to read the custom attribute value set during the registration process -
static final String CUSTOMER_NAMESPACE = "com.customer.usermanagement";
IUser user = . . .;
String org[] = user.getAttribute(CUSTOMER_NAMESPACE,"hr_org");
if (org != null) {
for (int i=0; i< org.length(); i++) {
response.write("Org: " + i + " = " + org<i>);
} else {
response.write("No orgs found for this user.");
- Extremely good reference (make sure you dont use any depricated API) -

Experts for OID, need your help with following:
OID will be used to store accounts from a local Active Directory. (sync between AD and OID user accounts)
Question: When installing OID, need your suggestions for following entries during OID installation
1. LDAP v3 Name Space: ?? (Is dc=localdomain fine??)
2. OID information Realm: ?? (Is dc=localdomain fine??)
Following is the information about AD, whose users will be inside OID or synched with.
The AD domain is adauth.local
so user accounts are [email protected]
These users are in a AD OU called as "internal"Hi,
Keep both the entries(LDAP v3 Name Space and OID information Realm) as dc=localdomain,dc=adauth,dc=local at OID end.

D namespace attributes questions
Not sure these are actually Catalyst questions, but they are part of the workflow through Catalyst, so:
1) Are the "d" namespace attributes (such as "userLabel") compiled into the SWF when compiling in Builder?
For instance:
<s:TextInput skinClass="components.UserTextField" text="Username" d:userLabel="UserTextField" x="43" y="82"/>
1a) If so, how can I access them in AS3?
1b) If not, what's the use? I know -- they carry over some useful data, but is there something we can do with them in Builder other than search and replace?
Thanks,
KirkHi Kirk,
Any attribute that has a prefix (d:, th:, ai:, etc) is completely ignored by the compiler and is not accessible at runtime. They are called "private attributes".
They are not directly useful in Builder. Feel free to strip them out.

OID: directoryadmingroup Question
I am running OID 10.1.4.0.1 with all of the latest Oracle patches. I see references for directoryadmingroup in the ROOT DSE orclentrylevelaci attribute:
access to attr=(*) AppendToAll by group="cn=directoryadmingroup,cn=oracle internet directory" (search,read,write,compare)
I am unable to find the directoryadmingroup entry, where is it and how can I find it?
thxit will be good if you are adding HR as OU , in case if you have IT or someother Organization Unit it will can be easily added and identified.
Once you add it as OU autimatically all required class will be added automatically , further if you have any custom attribute you can add your own custom class -
JAD / JAR attributes questions.
From what I can tell there are 18 attributes (16 MIDlet- and 2 MicroEdition-) that are mentioned in JSR 118. Excluding for now the Runtime-Execution-Environment.
The JAD has five mandatory attributes (Name, Version, Vendor, Jar-URL and Jar-Size). The JAR has five (MIDlet-Name, Version and Vendor and MicroEdition-Profile and Configuration). I know that Name, Version, Vendor must always match (signed or unsigned).
My questions are about the other optional attributes and how they should be validated and the rules around if an attribute(s) is included in the JAD does it need to be in the JAR as well and must it always be identical.
Example1 (assuming mandatory atts are present and valid)
Jad = MIDlet-Icon: icon.png
JAR = MIDlet-Icon is not present
App is signed. Should this cause an error or is it allowed? What if the app is unsigned?
Example2:
Jad = MIDlet-Icon: icon.png
JAR = MIDlet-Icon: stars.png
App is signed. I think this would result in a 905. What if unsigned?
I've seen some docs that refer to four attributes that the JAD should ignore: MIDlet-Jar-Size, MIDlet-Jar-URL, MIDlet-Install-Notify and MIDlet-Delete-Notify. Are there others?Can you find the specifications for your device. Nokia, Motos, SEs all list the specs for their devices. Try visiting the web site for your device. Hi,
I am trying to set attributes of a object in a for loop so that it sets the attribute as many time as there are elements in the for loop and then add the object to an array list and then after exiting the array list set the same attribute to some thing else and also add it to array list so now when I print it out the array list it should print like this....
first item in array list// coming from for loop
second item in array list // coming from for loop
third item // that I am setting out of array list ....
I am doing it like this
Bank bank = null;
ArrayList cchList = new ArrayList();
flag = true;
for (int i = 0; i < arrayList.size(); i++) {
Cutomer cutomer = (Cutomer) arrayList.get(i);
bank = new Bank();
falg = false;
bank.setComments(cutomer.getDecs());
cchList.add(bank);
if(flag)
bank = new Bank();
bank.setComments(cutomer.getTxtDecs());
cchList.add(bank);
My problem is it is printing it twice .....
can someone tell me what I am doing wrong hereIf I understand your problem right, you're not grouping your if-statement.
if(flag)
bank = new Bank();
bank.setComments(cutomer.getTxtDecs());
cchList.add(bank);should be
if(flag)
bank = new Bank();
bank.setComments(cutomer.getTxtDecs());
cchList.add(bank);
}
