OID meta repository

Oracle Guru's,
I am new to this subject and I need your help as my manager is expecting lot of things. Well Let me tell you my configuration first, I have Oracle 10gR2(10.2.0.3) RAC on sun solaris 10. I need to install OID for which I have to create meta repository . I have two questions ?
1. OAS creates 15 schemas, Do I need all of them for OID or I can install the required one?
2. Shall I create the meta repository in application database itself or create a separate instance on RAC sharing with existing application database instance. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing that in terms of performance or other ?
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

I'm by no means a guru (I've been working with OID for less than a year). As far as I know you should only need the Identity Management Schemas (ODS, OCA, ORASSO, ORASSO_DS, ORASSO_PA, ORASSO_PS, ORASSO_PUBLIC). These are the schemas that support Oracle Single Sign-on and Oracle Internet Directory. The other schemas (like the product metadata ones) are for other applications such as Portal.
I am even less experienced with the architecture side of things, but my understanding is that you will achieve greater performance by running a multi-tiered installation (Application and MetaData repository on separate servers).
Hope this helps some.

  • 9iasR2:InfraStructure:Meta Repository

I've tried to install 9iasR2 Infrastruture on a SUN Ultra-5 Solaris 8 workstation, however I faced a problem during the installation of Meta Repository, the process at "Creating and Starting Oracle Instance" that take a huge time and the state of 44% of the total process! It take more than an hour and still not yet finished the process. Anybody got any idea? or I need to get it install on a Sun Enterprise server?

    Hi,
Thanks for reply, here are my hardware spec, as you can see from the top utility, I have 4G of swap space and no other heavy proccess running on the machine, just the DBCA, and can notice that there is an instance PID=20386 running almost for 9 hrs. I believe that it is the oracle database server instance.

  • Can Portal and OID Metadata Repository be shared?

    Hi
I am designing a solution for my client which includes Portal and OID implementation. I was then posed the question whether the portal and oid metadata repository should be shared. Is there any best practice that anyone can share? Thanks!
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
I had faced this question once & I opted to use a separate Database for the Portal Schemas.
I am not aware of any document that details the best practices - but, my deisgn was based on the fact that the Portal Schemas would grow in future based on the number of Portal Pages & Applications. Our Client had forecast hat they would be using Portal quite heavily & hence, a separate MR was the way to go for us.
We just installed a new Oracle Database, used the Oracle Metadata Repository Creation Assistant & registered the database with Oracle Internet Directory. During the installation of Portal, the Oracle Universal Installer offers a choice of Metadata Repositories for the Portal Schema.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

  • Changing host name of OID repository... Where do I need to make changes?

We are moving our OID metadata repository to a different host and Im curious where I need to make the modifications in our OID installation to accommodate the new host name.
    Things we have already done:
    1) Modified and pushed out the new tnsnames.ora file.
    2) ODM -> Entry Management -> Oracle Context Made changes to a) orclnetdescstring b) cn=OID -> cn=Description_0 -> cn=Address_List_0 -> cn=Address_0 -> orclnetaddressstring
    3) Updated the %ORACLE_HOME%\OraHome\sysman\emd\targets.xml
After these changes were made, completed rebooted the system. OID seems to be working, however if I open a command prompt and 'tnsping OID' I still get the old host name, however if I fully qualify it, 'tnsping OID.xxx.local' it finds the correct host name....
Am I missing an update somewhere that causes tnsping to not find the correct host for the repository? Can I update the current repository registration via oracle tool?
    Thanks

  • User created but can't log into Portal. OID not in-sync with Repository.

    Logged into Portal as portal
    Go to Administ Tab
    Created a group i.e. TestGroup
Created a user i.e. TestUser, put the user's default group as TestGroup.
I logged-out and and tried to log in as TestUser it doesn't let me log into Portal.
I do see the TestUser under TestGroup when going to Administer Tab and checking it, but some how can't log-in. I tried to use wwsec_api.user_in_groups to print the group names using SQL-Navigator but it never returns anything for the user I created above.
    username := 'TestUser';
    groupid := WWSEC_API.USER_IN_GROUPS(p_user_name=>username);
..........Now if if try the following and use portal it returns me all the groups the portal user is in i.e.
    username := 'portal';
    groupid := WWSEC_API.USER_IN_GROUPS(p_user_name=>username);
..........Looks like OID and repository are not in-sync. Can someone give some in-sight why is this happening and what can I do to fix this. I even tried adding the user under some other groups but still never returns me the groups when I run the above PL/SQL.
    Thanks

Under Administer -> SSO/OID Tab I have Enable directory synchronization is checked. But still can't log in. Any ideas.
    Thanks

  • IDM/OID upgrade assistant (UA) failed in the examination - on 11.1.1.2

Does anyone have problem upgrading Oracle Identity Management/OID from 10.1.2.3 to 11.1.1.2 on Linux SUSE-10 64-bit?.
    1. Upgrade Oracle seed DB 10.1.0.5 32-bit to 10.2.0.4 64-bit. Using DBUA - OK, no problem.
    2. Started As 10.1.2.3 Infrastucture - IDM/OID/Metadata Repository and Middle Tier - Portal/Forms/Reports/Discoverers - OK, No problem.
    3. Installed Weblogic 10.3.2 - OK, No problem.
    4. Installed NEW 11.1.1.2 IDM/OID components OID and DIP only - OK, No problem.
    5. Run ua (upgrade assistant) to upgrade OID to 11.1.1.2 and got error - Examination OID failed. UA stopped.
Installed 64-bit Fusion Middleware IDM/OID - Probably this is the problem?.
Have not tried the 32-bit Fusion Middleware IDM/OID yet.
Had a SR opened with Oracle Support and have no solution yet.

    Hi Milan,
take a look to "Oracle Database Data Cartridge Developer's Guide" [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e10765/dom_idx.htm#autoId50] (here is the 11g rel2 version but is the same with 9i)
    Domain Indexes and SQLLoader*
SQLLoader conventional path loads and direct path loads are supported for tables on which domain indexes are defined, with two limitations:
    -The table must be heap-organized.
+-The domain index cannot be defined on a LOB column.+
To do a direct path load on a domain index defined on an IOT or on a LOB column, perform these tasks:
    -Drop the domain index
-Do the direct path load in SQL*Loader.
    -Re-create the domain indexes.
doesn't seem to be possible to use "direct path method" with spatial (domain) indexes
i hope for you that there is a workaround ...
    good luck,
    CarlT

  • WebCenter Portal application with OID

Can someone show the way to resolve the below Challenge?
Intention: Integrate OID User repository with Oracle WebCenter Portal application
    Sequence of steps followed:
    1) We have created a new provider under WLS and made the control flag to sufficient,
    2) Reorder the OID Provider with the default provider and changed the default provider control flag to optional
    3) Created new WebCenter Portal application(with the default webcenter framework template) and deployed into custom managed server
    4) Now iam able to login to the sample portal application with the OID Users
Challenge: i can able to get the administration tab in the application(Sample deployed application) by making the OID Group as a Administrator role, but if i go to the security tab under the webcenter framework administration option it is not fetching any user/group list from OID+*,
it is showing the popup message like "An unknown error occured during data streaming, Ask your system administrator to inspect the server side logs "
and here are the logs from custom managed server,

Do you have same more logs? Maybe in AdminServer?
    When you get
ADF_FACES-60098:Faces lifecycle receives unhandled exceptions in phase RENDER_RESPONSE 6
    javax.el.ELException: java.lang.NullPointerException
Usually is a error that you isn't catched in some class and you get error in your jspx page.

  • Crashing Metadata Repository?

    Hi,
Realize this may be more suited for the General Database forum, but since it involves the OID metadata repository and the DBMS_LDAP APIs, thought I would try this board first.
I am trying to load 1400+ users into Oracle Internet Directory from an existing database.
I have written a small PL/SQL procedure that queries the database for the users info and then loads it into OID using the DBMS_LDAP APIs. I am using SQL*Developer to write and debug the procedure.
The procedure loads 1131 users, but then halts, returning a "No more data to read from socket" error. All users before this point are loaded correctly into OID.
Running this procedure from SQL*Plus results in a "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel"
Researching the OTN and MetaLink forums leads me to believe that either the source database or the OID metadata repostitory is crashing, causing the connection to be lost. Perhaps this is a memory issue. . .?
I checked the logs for both the source database and the OID metadata repository - I can't find anything related to this problem (i.e. messages occuring at the same time I run the procedure.)
Can anyone give me any hints on how to troubleshoot this problem?
    TIA
    Jim

Because your stored procedure executes on the source database, I would look there thoroughly first.
Have you checked with your DBA for any resource limits on the userid that owns the session. Limits can be expressed in a number of ways, typically are defined in a user profile and can definitely manifest themselves as unexpected aborts out of nowhere for long running processes.
Of course a DBA can manually whack it, as well.

  • APEX 3.0 with Single Sign On for single application

    Hi All,
I have been playing around with SSO (IAS 10.1.2) and an APEX application for the past couple of days and am still having problems.
I have followed the instructions word for word in the various how to documents named in this forum and am now at the point where I successfully redirect to SSO login page > login using a username created in OID (which is the same username/password in my application) > then get redirected back to "http://<MY_SSO_HOST>:7777/sso/auth"..
    Some things about my instance:
    1. Oracle DB > 10g 10.1.2
    2. Oracle IAS > 10g 10.1.2 (different server to above)
    3. APEX 3.0 > trying to run SSO authentication against a single application rather than the whole APEX instance.
    4. I have (after a lot of grief - figured out that the DAD MUST be /pls/somedad and that the port number 80 must be defined in the SSO token regardless - those two little gems got me as far as I am..
Now I know very little about SSO and am trying to evaluate it for my application (which uses a DB login/password and has to continue to do so for other reasons which I do not control). I am assuming there is some method of synchronizing the OID/SSO repository with my db accounts but haven't yet figured that one out.
I cannot for the life of me see what's wrong here. Any ideas??

    Thanks Scott..
Okay let me go through the responses here..
...login using a username created in OID (which is the same username/password in my application)
My application overlays another Oracle application (old client server) which relies on physical database user accounts to perform its own internal grants etc. i.e. it uses where USER = blah all over the place.
Therefore my application is currently using the internal authentication scheme DATABASE (using DAD to resolve the credentials). In attempting to use SSO I am assuming that SSO must in some way be synched with my database (otherwise how does it pass any password changes applied in SSO to the database?)
Given that it's a base install (SSO) the only login I have there is the default orcladmin account. So I am trying to figure out how to get SSO to pass an acceptable login name/password to my application. My first attempt has been to create a user in OID that matches the DB login to see if SSO passes these on login - maybe I'm completely missing the point here??
...After login you get redirected to "http://<MY_SSO_HOST>:7777/sso/auth"? That's not right..
I have created/registered the application as per the how to guide using <my app name>.<my host>:<port> and setting the success URL to http://<my host>:<port>/pls/<mydad>/<my schema>.<custom success proc>
When I fire up my browser and go to http://<my host>/pls/<mydad>/f?p=9900:1 it sends me to the SSO login page. After entering my username and password I then end up with a HTTP 404 - not found page with the URL "http://<MY_SSO_HOST>:7777/sso/auth".
..You should think about getting to 10.2 at least, ..
Agreed but when I tried to upgrade the other day it fell in a big heap - so I backed it out to 10.1 again.
..I think I know what you mean. You installed the SSO SDK in a schema local to one workspace..
That is correct - had to do it as my instance has multiple applications and I want to check it works on this one before breaking anything else!
..No, that's not always the case. If you find that putting '80' in works in your configuration and leaving it out doesn't work then put it in..
I tried initially without the 80 but it threw errors whenever I tried to connect (these errors were APEX ones not SSO). On an off chance I put the 80 in there and presto it worked (in the sense that it redirected me to SSO anyway).
..Your application's use of a DB login/password is incongruous with using a different authentication method -- SSO or any other...
Given the constraints mentioned earlier (answer to first question above) I don't really have much choice. I have an Oracle application that uses DB accounts to authenticate users and authorize thier use of the app modules. What I need to do is 'wrap' and APEX application around this Oracle application to make it SOX compliant (it does not currently enforce password aging/structure etc.) So.. I was thinking that SSO might be the answer.
If SSO (used with OID) can enforce password aging and policies my intent is to have SSO 'manage' the user passwords for my APEX app (and it's underlying Oracle application). Hence the question about synching SSO with the underlying DB accounts. I thought the whole point of SSO/OID was to allow various enterprise apps to have thier authentication layers 'managed' by SSO - again maybe I'm misinterpreting this..
..if your application is working now with a non-SSO authentication scheme, then it should continue to work the same with SSO because after authentication, APP_USER is FRED in both cases..
Agreed - but how does SSO "know" to let a given user have access to that particular application?

  • Patching mid tier and infrastructure tiers.

    Greetings!!!
I am having some questions on patches and hope someone can help me here.
We have two Oracle Application Server machines both on Windows 2003 servers 32-bit and both are on 10.1.2.0.2 release.
The first machine is hosting HTTP Server, Forms (OC4J_BI_Forms), Reports, Webcache (Application/Mid tier). Release is 10.1.2.0.2
The second machine is hosting OID+Metadata repository, Single Sign-On, HTTP Server, and OC4J_Security (Infrastructure Tier). Release is 10.1.2.0.2.
I am now applying patches to both the servers.
Here are the steps I have:
    1. Apply the Patch 4505133 on the Infrastructure (10.1.0.5 Patch Set)
    2. Apply the Patch 5983622 on the Mid-tier. (10.1.3 patch set)
I have already completed step (1). I patched the infrastructure database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.1.0.5.
Am I missing the other step to patch Infrastructure tier components? Should I also patch the HTTP Server and the Oracle Home on infrastructure tier? I am not talking about the infrastructure database here. I am already done with that step.
If I only patch the Mid Tier with #5983622, then won't the mid tier will be on 10.1.3 release and infrastructure components (HTTP Server, SSO) will be on the same old 10.1.2.0.2.
The primary requirement is that I need to upgrade HTTP servers on both the tiers to the same level. Can you suggest me the equivalent of patch 5983622 for infrastructure tier and the way forward? Will appreciate any answers!!! TY.

    Hello,
I think u are mixing some things here.
In order to apply 5983622, u have to update database version is 10.1.0.4 to 10.1.0.5. (patch 4505133) That must be done before patching the two homes of Application Server.
Patch 5983622 is for Application Server. U have to apply it on Infrastructure Tier and on Application/Mid tier Home, in order to update Application Server from 10.1.2.2 to 10.1.2.3.
    regards,
    Pedro

  • Multiple instances of 9iAS in a single server

    Hi,
Is it possible to have multiple instances of the 9iAS in the same machine.
I have managed to install two different instances of the infrastructure on the same machine with different homes. But while trying to install the second instance of the portal and wireless the installer selects the earlier instance of the infrastrucure (SSO and Meta repository). Is there anyway around this?
    Thanks
    Vinodh R.

I installed infrastructure in one machine and trying to install ias in other machine using infra on the first one. but iam getting one typical error again and again.
i.e when during the installation of ias we have enter the values of existing sso and ias-admin pwd...i entered the infra sso host name and also ias admin pwd. but it says..
'return value from sso running function is INVALID'. I want to install ias on second machine so that resources are not wasted on the first host. also i am getting wwc-41490 error when trying to login the sso page of infrastructure host. why is this. Kindly help me as portal config is very imp for me.

  • Start Oracle Internet Directory failing... server context is null

I'm trying to install Oracle Internet Directory on a RHEL5 64 bit for the first time.
The database (11.2.0.3), Weblogic (10.3.6), and OID (11.1.1.6) have all installed okay, and I'm running the config.sh script.
I specify 'Creating the schema' and enter in the SYS credentials. The installation goes fine but fails to "Start Oracle Internet Directory" at the configure component stage.

I notice that Metalink ID: " FMW 11g Oracle Internet Directory Configuration Process Fail: Error Creating Ascomponent Oid1 [ID 1289015.1]" refers to IPV6. I only have IPV4 enabled. Is IPV6 a mandatory requirement for OID?
    Thanks in advance.

I downloaded the RCU 11.1.1.6 patch (13517109) and it ran fine this way (after a drop/create on the OID schemas).
Obviously running the {Middleware_Home}/Oracle_IDM1/bin/rcu file isn't the way to do it. I'll pay closer attention next time....
    Thanks for your help.

The above is the reason I've almost stopped using Oracle AS.
The architects who put in DCM, OPMN, OID, Metadata repository into Application Server should be shot!
I've had to re-install my servers several times when I get strange unsolvable issues like the above. (Its faster that way! Believe me!)
My suggestion is that only use OC4J.

    Hi,
The Meta Repository of BW has only one version, the current version.
The company CUBESERV has a product "CubeServ BW Documentation Tool, Version 3.4".

You can export the metarepository and generate versions.
