OID on AIX or Linux

I am trying to find out what people's general experience is with OID on AIX. We are in the design phase for building a new OID for our main database and using AIX would be easier for us.
However Linux appears to be the most popular platform for OID. Does anyone out there have experience with both platforms and if so have you encountered any issues with using AIX compared to Linux?
Also it would be great if some kind soul could let me know roughly how big the user base is for running OID on AIX compared to OID on Linux. We don't want to be one of a select few with a particular configuration.
We are planning to use OID / OIM 10.1.4
Thanks for any advice you can give.

In my experience, oid on redhat runs the fastest. User bases range for our clients from 100 to 50,000. Also, upgrades will come out on linux faster than aix, since it's getting to be a less used OS. Just my thoughts.

  • Oracle E-business suite database migrate from AIX to Linux

Oracle 11i application database migration from single Aix instance to oracle Linux cluster RAC.
What is the easy way to migrate?
Migrate single instance from aix to linux cluster.
    OR
Migrate single instance from aix to linux cluster RAC.
We have installed oracle Linux cluster.
Please help me which way I can go with RAC.
    Thanks
    Prince

Migrating to a single instance will be the simplest. The migration itself will not be much different between the two because you're migrating from one platform to another. The options you have available are, the traditional IMP/EXP, datapump, and RMAN to migrate to either a standalone or RAC environment. The difficulty will be in creating a RAC environment and a little a few extra steps in the RMAN restore. Working with RAC will make things harder, but the actual migration is similar. The steps to IMP/EXP, whether it's traditional or Datapump will be no different. However, standing up a RAC database will be.

    Dear All,
Please help me to understand the following scenario of ORACLE APP'S migration.
One of my client currently using Oracle APP'S ver 11.0.3 DB version 8.0.5 running on IBM AIX platform.
Currently three customized module under operation with 50 forms and reports.
Also some external application integrated with the current oracle financial 11.0.3.
The client is more interested to migrate their platform to linux based server.
They wants to move the current set up to the new version EBS along with the existing customized module. (My question is it possible to migrate the customized module to another platform. AIX to Linux)
If so , where i can find the right document to explore more idea of this scenario of migration.

    ram,
I am going to do the similar upgrade with replatform at the same time. I collect the information from forum and finally get an indicator to how to do it. You need to read the "Upgrading the Oracle Applications", B19297-01
    "Installing Oracle Applications" B19296-01 and
    "Maintenance Utilities" B19300-01
The documentation mentioned the way for upgrade an 11.0 version of EBS to latest release including some pre-upgrade tasks including the database version upgrade to work with 11i, etc.
    Hope this help.

  • Binary Compatibility - W2K vs AIX vs Linux

I have a question. It is posible to move .fmx files compiled on W2K with Forms6i Builder to an Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2.2 running on IBM-AIX or Linux without to recompile .fmb files created on W2K?.
    Thanks4All.

If forms are compiled on NT and oracle database is on AIX, after we switch to Sun Solaris, do I need to recompile those forms? if so, can those forms be re-open on Sun Solaris?
how about reports (.fmb)? currently I compile them on my PC (connect to oracle DB on AIX) and ftp it to AIX, do we need to recompile those reports after platform is changed to SUN?

  • Dataguard 11g setup between AIX and Linux

    Hi,
We are planning to move our Oracle databases from AIX 6.1 to Oracle Linux 6.2
To reduce the downtime, we are thinking of setting up a dataguard (physical or logical) and do the switchover.
    Have you performed this before?
Will you pls send me the steps?
    Thanks,
    DR

    Hello again;
I thinking no for the same reason.
When my shop moved from AIX to Linux we just install Oracle on Linux and patched it to the same level as the AIX. We created users, tablespaces, job etc in advance and then just used import/export to move the needed schema's. Data Pump make this much easier.
Do a schema(s) compare and switch when ready. But in any event I don't believe Data Guard can help you. You mostly have a migrate issue.
Please consider closing your question when complete.

XDK 10.1.0.2.0 production for HP-UX64, AIX and LINUX is ready to download on OTN:
    http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/xdk/software/production10g/index.html

The error indicates that the password (or wallet) files oidpwdldap1 and oidpwdr<ORACLE_SID> do NOT exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin or your $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are set incorrectly (a bit unlikely).
Assuming that the $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are indeed set to correct values, if the 2 files mentioned above do not exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin, then perform the below action plan:
    1. Set the ORACLE_HOME to INFRASTRUCTURE ORACLE_HOME
    2. set the PATH to $ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/ldap/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin:$PATH
    3. Ensure that you are able to login to sqlplus as "ods" user.
    4. If you do NOT know the password of ods user, then reset the password.
    5. Run the below command and enter the ods password when prompted for it.
    oidpasswd create_wallet=true
    6. Voila! The Wallet files are created under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin.

  • UNIX (AIX) to LINUX Database migration

    Hi,
I need to migrate the Oracle database from UNIX(AIX) to LINUX. I have a valid license for the UNIX box but wanted to know if the same license would also work for the LINUX box as well or not. I will be using the license only on one system i.e once the migration is done the database would no longer exist or will use the License key on the UNIX box.
Is it possible to migrate the license or do I need to get a new one for the LINUX box.
    Thanks,
    Nitesh

The license is for Oracle, so you can put Oracle on what ever O/S you want without affecting the license.

  • A question about license date validity during OS migration: AIX to Linux

    Dear all,
I would appreciate if you could kindly give us
your advice about the following issue.
We have an environment dedicated for training. The environment was
initially installed on AIX platform. However, after a while the
technical direction decided to migrate to Linux.
The migration was done at 18 September 2009, and during this process
the very date was chosen and designated by SAP to be the
valid start date of the new SAP license.
Now, our problem is, that the data programmed in this SAP envionment
(used for training) is not compatible with the current date. In
order to make them work properly, the host system date must always be
set to the last year (this is because we had unfortunately some delay for
    the migration).
It is fundamental to remark, that currently, we are absolutely not able to
modify the data and the sole solution (although not the best one) to
tackle this problem is to modify the operating system's date. This is
precisely how we proceeded, but unfortunately we encountered a SAP license
    check problem during logon.
As I explained, the migration from AIX to Linux was performed at
18 September 2009, which means, this was the date for the new license.
Yet, we need to go further in the past and to choose 24th July 2008.
On the operating system, of course, there is no problem and the
administrator can modify the host date with the appropriate date, but
on the other hand, by choosing this date, we are no more able to work
within this SAP environment. At the logon time, we receive a license
check error, which is normal, because the host date (24th July 2009) is anterior
than the start date for the SAP license (18 September 2009).
Also, we cannot ask for another license, because we will have the same problem,
they never create a license dated for the last year, and they always create an
    up-to-date license.
Could you kindly guide us how we can manage to solve this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,
    Dariyoosh

I think you're better off opening an OSS message in this particular case.
    Regards
    Juan

  • DB migration from AIX to Linux

    Dear Experts,
We are planning to migrate our existing 10g database of 11.5.10.2 from AIX to Linux. Can anyone share their experiences? Some docs/URLS will be helpful. One of my friends told that it takes more than 36 hours to complete the database migration. Is it really true? The current database size is approx. 100GB.
After the migration does, apps function as usual?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You can use export/import or transportable tablespaces to migrate the database.

    Note: 362205.1 - 10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i
How long the task would take? Depends on the hardware resources you have. The best practice is to try this on a test instance first.
The application should work as expected once the task is completed.

To move/migrate the 11i Apps Database alone means you need to follow the export/import method.
Please refer the note: 362205.1 "10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i"
In general steps to follow the DB migration is :
    1. create the complete export file in source database
2.create a new DB in the target instance
    3.perform the import
4.create the new auto-config and sync with apps tier

  • Is it possible/recommended to backup SUN, AIX to Linux RMAN backup Server

We have a number of databases in a mix OS environment and we are considering RMAN. We have a mix of SUN, AIX and Linux database servers. I would like to know if anyone has implemented RMAN in a similar environment and what were any known challenges. Would a single repository work for this scenario? Could we backup/restore SUN/AIX from a Linux backup server....
    Thanks in advance.

If you  are referring to a single catalog for multiple environments that is possible and works really nicely .
A catalog database can reside on any platform as  long it is accessible by the target server.
The backup server concept you are referring to though does t imply that you want the backup pieces from all your mix OS systems i.e. AIX, Solaris etc be stored on one backup server which is on linux. I think that might be possible since you can potentially nfs mount from any OS and store a file. I have not tested this though yet.
