OID on Linux (Intel)?
Im running 8i on RedHat 6.2 and couldnt find a version of OID in my install. Is it available for linux?
John
[email protected]
Hello John:
OiD is available for Linix on Oracle 8i release 2 which is the same thing as Oracle 8i version 8.1.6
Oracle 8i release 1 is version 8.1.5 and we did not port to Linix on this version.
We will be releasing OiD on 8i release 3 (version 8.1.7) within the next few weeks.
Oracle currently plans to release OiD on every new release of the database for Linix.
OiD is also going to be bundled with future releases of the 9i Application Server on Linix as well.
To recap. Your choices for OiD on Linix are as follow: Oracle 8.1.6 (release 2), or wait a week or two for our newest release on Linix, Oracle 8.1.7 (release 3.)
Thanks,
Jay

Oracle 9.0.1 Linux Intel images on OTN corrupt
The oracle 9.0.1 Linux Intel images I downloaded
from Oracle technology network are corrupt. Disk1 and
Disk2 images are bad for Linux Intel. A gunzip -df
to decompress the image fails i.e
gunzip -df Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz
gunzip: Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz: unexpected end of file
gunzip -df Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz
gunzip: Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz: unexpected end of file
The other alternative i.e a cpio extract on Disk2 is also suspect.
cpio -imdv < Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz
cpio: warning: skipped 40 bytes of junk
cpio: premature end of file
Disk3 for Oracle 901 Linux Intel on OTN is good.
Disk1 and Disk2 images for Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux Intel
may have to be updated on the Oracle technology network.
Any other suggestions or tips are welcome.

Oracle 9.0.1 Linux Intel Images on Downloads corrupt
The Oracle 9.0.1 Enterprise DataBase software for Linux Intel downloadable version on the Oracle Technology Network has 2 of the Disk images currently corrupt.
After downloading all the 3 Oracle 9.0.1 Database CD images in binary for Linux Intel from the Oracle Technology network, Disk1 and Disk2 images were found to be bad.
Disk 1 and Disk2 images could not be decompressed using gunzip or cpio. The following errors occur on linux
Disk1:
gunzip -df Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz
gunzip: Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz: unexpected end of file
Disk2:
gunzip -df Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz

I have put in a request for support on Metalink and posted
a note on this on the Database-general and Installation,
Technology Linux and the OTN Member feedback Forums. But have got no feedback on this so far. Oracle Support have
recommended putting a note on the OTN forums as they have
no means of validating the Oracle 901 Linux images on OTN.
If the Oracle 901 Linux images could be checked and feedback provided, that would help.
Thanks
MalaYes. The filesizes of the Oracle 901 Intel images
on OTN match with what I downloaded in binary mode.
I found a reference in one of the DBMS forums on OTN
which suggested using the download tool from Getright.
Using the getright tool and the direct url link path
reference I downloaded the oracle 901 Linux images again
from OTN. This time I was able to run gunzip and
cpio -imdv successfully on all the 3 oracle 901 Linux
images without any isssues.

AshwaniHi Manuel,
I tested on my client, and I also keep getting the error 1053, which indicates timeout and the new created service can not be started during the limit time, so you can try to change the service time limit, please note this needs to change registry value,
Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems:
In Registry Editor, locate, and then right-click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
a.Point to New, and then click DWORD Value. In the right pane of Registry Editor, notice that New Value #1 (the name of a new registry entry) is selected for editing.
b.Type ServicesPipeTimeout to replace New Value #1, and then press ENTER.
c.Right-click the ServicesPipeTimeout registry entry that you created in step c, and then click Modify. The Edit DWORD Value dialog box appears.
d.In the Value data text box, type TimeoutPeriod, and then click OK
Refer to:

I installed OID which come from the download version of Oracle 8i 8.1.7 on redhat linux 6.2. I use universal installer installed the software code and run postcfg script in $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/postcfg to generate the database and LDAP schema. After correct some
bugs manually in the postcfg(it is better to add one sentence of oidmon -start) and bugs in oidadmin(script in $ORACLE_HOME/bin, one is it point to a wrong place of jre, the other is it use a switch that only worked on sparc), I finally started the oidadmin.
BUT, I still can not login the OID from oidadmin. Can any guy kind give me some info on what is the initial password for oidadmin of OID? I have tried all combos that listed on the on-line help, like: cn=orcladmin, oracladmin, etc. it doesn't work. I also use sqlplus as system to search it in the tables
of the OID database, but find nothing.
Thanks for any info or hint!
nullHello:
Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. I was exhibiting OID at AppsWorld in Paris and New Orleans for the past 2 weeks.
Assuming you have followed the installation procedures from the "OID Installation Guide" there is one small bug patch that needs to be applied to the Linux versions. You can obtain a copy of this patch from the Oracle Metalinks web site:
http://www.oracle.com/support/metalink/index.html
Assuming that OID is up and running you should be able to start a gui JAVA tool from the command line prompt by typing in "oidamdin" or from your Linux Window console. The super user account name is "orcladmin" and the default password is "welcome". The default port number is 389. Also make sure you put in the host name of your machine.
Let me know if any of this helps. If not Ill try to help you reinstall OID to make sure it is installed properly. I am unable to fully understand where you are stuck from your description of the problem.
thanks,
Jay

what was the error in the database installation?

Our admin username "portal" password expired, and we need to change the expiration date in our Oracle Directory Manager/Oracle Internet Directory (OID). We are familiar with accessing OID in a Windows environment, but not sure how to do so in a Linux environment.
Is OID accessible using a IE browser (i.e., is there a special port) or is it somehow accessed in the back end?
We are using Oracle-Application-Server-10g/10.1.2.0.2 on Linux. Let us know if you have any ideas. From the linux console - oidadmin

Migration from linux intel 32bit to linux AMD_Opteron 64bit
Hi,
I'm trying to duplicate an instance from a 10.2.0.2 intel 32 server to an opteron 64bit (10.2.0.3).
Which are the options?
If I take an Rman Backup and I try the Restore I can't open the destination db.
If I issue a startup migrate and then I run the catupgrd.sql script I get the error
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION version_script
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [56319], [], [], [], [], [], [],
ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319]
If this depends from the platform migration, maybe the only option is to use export/import?
Thanks.Hi, the OS is RedHat3 on the source database and RedHat5 on the destination database.
I would have preferred to use the backup/restore but, since I have found several issues on the migration from 32bit to 64bit, I think I will use the export/import path to move data.

Hi,
Yesterday i having problem with my oid. So i want to re-install oid. But an error said i already register in database. So, how to remove from database? Other thing, i'm not create backup for directory oid.
MzarM.Deregister manually: on the infrastructure server, run:
deconfig.pl -u cn=orcladmin -w <psw of orcladmin> -dbp <psw of SYS>
Mind you: user id must be cn=ocrladmin, or else you'll get javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - Invalid Credentials]
Now you should be able to choose the "deregister and remove" option in MRCA.
I really liked the Re-installation chapter of the 10.1.4 manual:
"The installer does not allow reinstallation of an Oracle Application Server instance in a directory that already contains an Oracle Application Server instance.
To reinstall Oracle Application Server in the same directory, you have to deinstall and then install it." -
Using Linux/Red Hat/Intel for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server
Anybody have any experience of this? We're looking to get off AIX, and Total Cost of Ownership for using Solaris/Sparc versus Linux/Intel is very similar.
The decider will be if no-one is using Linux as a platform for Sun ONE/Java Directory Server....
Any feedback would be appreciated....We run Directory 5.1 in production on Solaris/Sparc, but I've tried it with sucess on Red Hat 7.2 on Intel. We have not been able to get it to work on Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 or 3.0. The main problem has been that the administration server fails on startup. Obvious the lack of support for the latest enterprise class Linux is a huge drawback. At this point I've decided to stay on Solaris/Sparc until Red Hat comes out with its own release of Netscape's Directory. When that happens we're going to evaluate whether to move the whole environment to Red Hat. The Sun and Netscape servers are almost identical in terms of features and performance, but having an open source version that can run on less expensive hardware would be a terrific win for us.

I am trying to find out what people's general experience is with OID on AIX. We are in the design phase for building a new OID for our main database and using AIX would be easier for us.
However Linux appears to be the most popular platform for OID. Does anyone out there have experience with both platforms and if so have you encountered any issues with using AIX compared to Linux?
Also it would be great if some kind soul could let me know roughly how big the user base is for running OID on AIX compared to OID on Linux. We don't want to be one of a select few with a particular configuration.
We are planning to use OID / OIM 10.1.4
Thanks for any advice you can give.In my experience, oid on redhat runs the fastest. User bases range for our clients from 100 to 50,000. Also, upgrades will come out on linux faster than aix, since it's getting to be a less used OS. Just my thoughts.
