OID Working Normally But I Want to Understand "oracle SID " Processes

I'm runninng OID as part of an Identity Mangagement 10.1.4.0.1 installation on Linux. When I look at the processes that oracle is running I see many "oracle<SID>" processes.
I'm looking for where I can read about the different types of processes that comprise OID on Unix/Linux. I'm particularly interested in knowing how "oracle<SID>" processes are created and destroyed -- is each process synonymous with an active connection to the directory?
Thank you for pointing me to the docs on this or telling me what you believe these "oracle<SID>" processes represent.

Those Oracle<sid> processes are database instance processes - OID is implemented in a database (where else?).
They should be there for the life time of your server - they should not be killed, destroyed or whatever - they can be stopped by logging into your server - after setting the proper environment variables, execute:
sqlplus / as sysdba
shutdown
exit
The shutdown can take a while - it allows all active, current sessions to do their thing. Another option is shutdown immediate, which will kill active sessions, as soon as the running transaction finishes. Both options result in a clean shutdown, leaving the database in a consistent state.
A real killer is shutdown abort - it will simply abort all transactions, but leaves the database in an inconsistent state. Oracle will recover automatically in most cases.

  • My iphone 3gs was working normally but now won't turn on

Yesterday my iphone was working normally but this morning it won' t turn on.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm so sorry to hear. I actually had requested
several times to have my insurance cancelled because it never covered any
of the issues I've had in the past. When I amended my plan a few months ago
they must have reactivated it. Nowhere on my digital bill was the insurance
listed so I had no idea I was even paying for it. I'd normally be livid
but, it actually worked in my favor.
I would for sure check into your legal options. For now I suggest getting a
cheap refurbished phone until you are due for an upgrade. Don't commit to
their payment plan that you will be paying well after you are qualify for
an upgrade. If I thought any of the other cell phone carriers weren't just
as bad in some way or another I would switch but, I honestly don't know
anyone who's not getting screwed in some way. This is definitely some next
level bull, though. Now I know why no one from Verizon has commented in
    on this thread.

Since upgrading my Mac book pro with Yosemite, I have problems with my Xerox Work Centre 3045 printer. The printer works normally but it does not recognise scanner, I can not scan anything. Can you help?

Open Disk Utility and select your hard drive, then Repair Permissions, it will probably return a very large number of errors, primarily printer and library errors, so run it a second time.  Then restart the MacBook Pro.  If it still will not scan, try using Image Capture from Finder > Applications and see if that will work.  If not, contact Xerox about updated drivers.

i tried using safari, Google chrome and firefox, all not loading
WHAT DO I DO TO FIX THIS?

You are correct.  Syncing should transfer any purchased media, including videos, from your device to your iTunes library provided your computer is authorized for the Apple ID used to make these purchases.  You mentioned that you have uninstalled iTunes before, but if you didn't follow this guide exactly, uninstalling iTunes and all of its components in the order specified, it may not have been successful so you should try again:  Windows XP or Windows Vista/7.

  • I bought a iphone 4s of ebay it works great but i want to use the passcode but can't because he can't remember what he put it as

i bought an iphone 4s of ebay and it works great but i went to set up a passcode but the person who had it before has put one on there and he can't remember what it is, is there anyway of resetting it

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
A Complete Guide to Recover Your iDevice if You Forget Your Passcode
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Firefox 4 was working normally but when I updated to 5 it does not load when I select ANY firefox icon from ANY menu?

But when I load a second browser (like Chrome or Explorer) it will pop up two or three windows like they have loaded but do not show under open programs or on my desktop, this only happens with firefox and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled.
I am running Windows 7 and have had no problems with firefox till now. Both my other browsers work normally. Though my tool bar in firefox has also disappeared and been stating it needs to be reinstalled

The next step I would recommend is to do some troubleshooting(Safe Mode,Problematic Extensions etc) -
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20plugins
Just to make sure you can get started in Firefox Safe Mode - Hold the Shift key down as you double click on the Firefox icon, ignore the page that opens and Continue. Firefox isn't the only thing that has been updated and new conflicts and culprits can emerge.
I would also recommend a search of your computer to make sure no residue of "Conduit" remains.

  • Odd situation: indexes working normally but related preferences are missing

    Hi,
i was wondering if anyone has seen this before:
I have a couple of instances, one for development and one for production (Oracle XE).
In the dev instance i can query view CTX_USER_PREFERENCES and i see all the preferences i defined that are being used as parameters for the context indexes i defined.
In the production instance, installed with EXP/IMP, there is no trace of such preferences, however context queries are working normally. Also, if i generate the DDL for these indexes i can see that the missing preferences are mentioned, however if i try to specify one in a new index, it tells me that the preference does not exist.
I tried to see if querying CTX_PREFERENCES from SYS could make a difference, but it doesn't.
    I am puzzled...

    Hi,
it is normal behaviour if you use exp/imp, see note 468599.1 on Oracle Support. The index will continue to work, but a change will lead to errors (missing preference).
So the preferences need to be exported by hand, or use ctx_report.create_index_script to create a script for those indexes.

  • With newer MacBook Air, sending both video and audio to an LG TV works fine, but I want to send the audio to a sound bar attached to the TV.  Any way to do this?

I am trying to get audio to play through the soundbar attached to the TV for great sound.  Works fine with Apple TV, but on the MacBook Air, system preferences will only find the TV speakers.  If I change the settings on the TV to external speakers (the soundbar), then I get no sound at all.  The HDMI connection does what it is supposed to do, providing video and audio, but the audio can only go to the TV.  I don't know if you can go backward and send only video through HDMI and then connect to the soundbar through the mini jack ports on the computer and the soundbar.  Any solutions will be appreciated.

its important to do this in the correct order so the camera will be senced by the Mac and to prevent the Firewire connection from electrical damage:
    power down your Mac
connect firewire from camera to Mac
power on camera and insert tape in camera and play back
    power up Mac
    start QuickTime
File > Preferences > record tab
video source - select the camera you have
sound source - select the camera you have
    quality - select device native
the video should show in the QuicTime window
a  green line below video will show presence of sound-it will play through the speakers if they are selected in system prefernces
    rewind tape and playback
click on red button to start recording

  • I recently tried to update IOS on a work computer not logged in as an administrator, this wiped my phone and put it in safe mode. I restored from a different computer but now need to back up from the work computer but dont want to"restore" to get contacts

Itried to upgrade my software at work which failed and wiped my phone . It then wouldnt restore either and put the phone in recovery mode.
I installed a new version of itunes on a home computer and restored my phone but it now has none of my contacts apps photos etc.
How can I get this back from my work computer without restoring as this will fail again. Is there anyway of sending my backup from my work computer to icloud and backing up from there?
I think the issue is that as I do not have administrator rights at work so  the restore/backup fails each time.

  • I just got home from work where my iPad was working normal, but when I got home I pulled out my iPad and there's nothing but a black screen. I've tried to hold on the on buttone and the start button on the bottum front of the screen and so far nothing Why

Unexplainable screen outage. Is there any ideas as to why a perfectly working screen would turn black and not be able to reopen? I was using at work, storeds it in my briefcase and when I got home I turned my iPad back on to work on my music files, but all I received was a black screen I've tried to hold town the on - off button at the top of the screeen and also the small button pad at the bottom of the screen, all with no changes. How do I get my iPad working again. I really depended on using this tonight. Any ideas?

Is the iPad charged?  Plug it in with the charger/wall outlet for half an hour and try again to reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears.

  • Problem with Permissions... fixed, but I want to understand more

Hello. I had a GB project with recorded guitar on my HD. I moved this to an external hard drive before continuing recording. All was fine, but then I couldn't export/share to .aif on either the external or the Mac HD.
I moved the project back to my hard drive and tried exporting to AIFF again, but no joy.
Someone on the Apple discussions board said to repair permissions. So I repaired the permissions on my HD (turns out there were a billion things showing up). I was able to export the song perfectly. So thank you!
Now I want to know: why? What happened? If I intend on keeping future projects on my external instead of on my HD, should I repair the permissions on my external? What exactly am I doing? Did GB think my project was illegal somehow?
    ok thank you.

Pretty much apps and data have permissions. These permissions keep track of who has the permission to read, write, delete, modify things. Some things can only be used by the OS some by a admin or a certain user. Sometimes when moving data around a permission can get corrupted. Repairing permissions will check data and make sure the defaults are reset. Not a big deal and doesn't happen very often.

  • Time Machine working great but now want to back up an NTFS USB HD also

Got my Time Machine working well backing up my whole system onto a 1TB LaCie USB Hard drive formatted: Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)
However I regularly use a 500GB LaCie which is formatted NTFS (where all of my MP3s are located on for iTunes) and would like this to be included in the Time Machine Backups.
I installed NTFS-3G to make this data accessable and editable etc.
After a few hours of trying, I still cannot seem to get this drive to backup. I made sure it wasnt an exception in the Options Tab.
Anyone know what it is I am doing wrong?
    Cheers
    James

This is from CCC's Help section:
    +Supported configurations+
HFS formatted partition or hard drive+
+Hard drives in Firewire, eSATA and USB enclosures including Firewire-based iPods*+
+CCC will not backup directly to optical media (e.g. CD-ROM or DVD-ROM)+
+CCC is supported only on machines that officially support Mac OS X Tiger (or higher)+
    and:
+Mac OS X is installed on an HFS+ filesystem. The HFS+ filesystem defines many types of metadata that describe non-data attributes of your files. Creation date, access control lists, permissions and ownership, Finder flags, and extended attributes are among the various metadata types defined in the HFS+ standard. To adequately back up all of your files and their associated metadata, CCC requires that your backup volume is also formatted as HFS.
+Additionally, Macintoshes can only boot from hard drives partitioned with either the Apple Partition Map (APM) scheme (PowerPC- or Intel-based Macs) or the GUID Partition Table (GPT) scheme (Intel-based Macs). The hard drive icons that you see in the Finder are volumes. The partition scheme of a hard drive describes how volumes are physically defined on the hard disk. Every hard drive has exactly one partition scheme and at least one volume. When you "partition" a hard drive, you simply create multiple volumes on that hard drive.+
+See the section of CCC's documentation labeled "Preparing a hard drive for use with Carbon Copy Cloner" (in the "General overview of the features of CCC" section) for step-by-step instructions for partitioning and formatting a new hard drive for use with CCC.+
I use it or SuperDuper to create a bootable clone; however, when I just want to copy certain files, I just use the drag 'n drop method - it just works.
