Oil Paint Error
I'm using Photoshop CS6 on my laptop. When I tried to apply the oil pain filter, I got an error message saying "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software." Could you let me know on how to fix this?

Is it my graphics card. If so, how do I check to see what I have? I have an HP about three years old.You need to upgrade your video driver from the web site of the manufacturer of your video card, not from HP, not from Microsoft, and not through Windows update.
Windows should tell you exactly what your video card is when you look at the computer properties. I'm a Mac user, so I can't give you more precise instructions. -

Hey i have Photoshop CS6 and i updated my graphics driver and oil paint still isn't working, can someone please help me?
I have a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Version: 8.15.10.2869
I read other discussions on the forum and still it wouldn't let me use Oil paint.
It still gives me an error saying "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."Your video driver caused an application crash. Photoshop noticed the crash caused by your video driver, and disabled the GPU functions because of that bug in the video driver.
You need to update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website, or contact the GPU maker to let them know about the bug in their driver software.
And with that GPU, I wouldn't expect much functionality - it's kind of old and at the low end for GPUs. -

Oil Paint Filter "unknown graphics processor error"
When I try to use the Oil Paint filter in Photoshop, I get this error message:
"The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
I have updated both my system and Photoshop. When I'm at work on a newer machine the filter works great, but I've been working from home on a macbook from 2007 and it doesn't work. I can't afford to buy an ENTIRELY NEW laptop simply to use this filter.

When you go to Preferences > Performance and look at the GPU settings, what is the mode? Basic, Normal, or Advanced?
Perhaps you can try ratcheting down the settings,but I somehow sense your video card is not supported and your vram is below the 256MB minimum.

Are you still experiencing this problem? We removed the Oil Paint mission, so you should not be seeing it. Can you tell me which version of Level Up you have? You can check the version in the Extension Manager.

Oil Paint Filter not working - CS6 - Can you help resolve this?
Can you help? The CS6 oil paint filter is not working. The error is: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
I have the latest graphics driver software. I have the latest update for CS6. I have followed various community support recommendations to no avail.
In the Advanced Graphics Processor settings (preference, performance) only "Basic" is available and I can't select (grayed out) "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate computation" and can't select "use OpenCL".
My System: Windows 7 (64 bit), HP Pavilion dv6-3250us Notebook with Intel(R) High-Definition Graphics Driver.

Oil Paint Filter not working in Photoshop CS6?
Ok, so I have had PS CS6 for a couple of months with no problems. I downloaded the oil paint filter, but to use it i needed to update my GPU drivers, so I did and it started working. Last week, i noticed that when i attempt to use the filter, it says that need to have the box in the preferences section saying 'enable graphics processor' checked. before it was previously checked. Now when i go to it, it is greyed out because of an 'error' in my display drivers. I reinstalled my display drivers but it did not solve the problem. For some reason it is still greyed out. I know that my GPU meets the requirements for using oil paint, it was working fine before so why has it decided to stop working now?
I have not removed any parts from my computer so it wouldn't have affected it. If anyone could help me on this issue then i would be extremely grateful.You haven't installed the Photoshop updates -- you should be on 13.0.3 or 13.1.1, not 13.0.0.
Oil Paint uses the GPU, and requires a decent GPU.
Your GPU doesn't support many of the features needed by the Oil Paint filter, and barely supports any of the GPU features in Photoshop (notice that it does not support OpenCL, or Normal or Advance mode for GPU drawing). -
Problem opening the oil paint filter
When I try to open the oil paint filter (either CS6 or CC), I see the dialog open for an instant and immediately disappear. There are no error messages, PS doesn't crash - the filter just fails to run.
I'm not finding any similar problems in searches. Others who've had problems with this filter have been told to upgrade their display driver - mine is already the most current. It would help if there were at least some error or warning message with a clue as to what's going on. I am certain I've used this filter in the past, but probably not since CS6 was new.
I'm running on a desktop system, Windows 7 with 32GB memory and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 with 1 GB graphics memory.
I haven't notice any other problems in Photoshop with other filters, etc. Any ideas?I backed out to the previous driver level - still no joy. It's not the best software behavior to not display any sort of message pointing to the cause or at least confirming it's detected a problem. (Speaking as a computer engineer with 30+ years of complex software system design experience.)
Not sure I want to go further backward in drivers. Where do I go from here? -
Oil paint filter: The operation could not be completed
And this is just one of the problems I am getting. I'm running Win7 64bit, photoshop cs6 (also 64bit), have an i7 2600 and 16GB of RAM and an ati 5870 card running the latest drivers (12.8)
So, the operation could not be completed whenever I try to run the oil paint plugin and when I try to use the iris blur, my canvas goes blank. If I pull it out of docked mode and put it in a window, it's still blank until I move the window about and I can see my image, but as soon as I stop moving the window around, it's blank again.Thanks for the advice. I had found that suggestion elsewhere on the site after I posted and just finished a reinstall of drivers. That fixed the problem with liquefy and oil paint. However, I still have issues with the first three Blur filters: field, iris, and tilt shift. All three cause the canvas to go black when run and no matter what I do I cannot restore the image without exiting photoshop. If I close the window that is now black and reopen the original file (unsaved after the error) without exiting I still get a blank canvas. In order to be able to view that file again I need to close down photoshop completely. Then upon restart I can open and view the file.
If I completely disable "Use Graphics Processor" in the performance preferences then the filters work like normal.If I reenable they go back to the the black canvas behavior. I also tried leaving the "use graphics processor" enabled and changing the subsettings such as Drawing mode and none of those changes helped... the graphics processor needs to be completely disabled. -

When I am trying to use an Oil Paint Filter I receive a message:
"The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the the latest software."

What video card do you have on your system? Does it have 256MB VRAM or more? Do you get any other GPU feature to work.
Try going to the manufacturer's website for the video card in your machine (I'm assuming this is on Windows) and getting the latest available driver.
