Oil Paint Filter Doesn't Turn Out
I'm using the oil paint filter and for some reason it doesn't turn out when I use it. It doesn't seem to be an issue for very very small sized images, if I make the photo smaller it will work just fine. However, for any regular sized images I get this result below. I just got a new computer, so i'm not sure what the issue could be? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it

Photoshop CS6 Extended crashing when using Oil Paint filter
I replaced a standard hard drive with a new SSD drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7 and all of my programs. I made sure all Win 7 updates, program updates and drivers are current. The good news is Photoshop CS6 Extended loads much faster. The bad news is now Photoshop crashes when I attempt to use the Oil Paint filter. The only hardware change is the new SSD, I haven't changed any video devices and I never had any issues running the Oil Paint filter before I swapped out hard drives and did the software reinstallations. I've tried the OpenGL Drawing Mode in basic, normal and advanced, and still get crashes when attempting to use oil paint. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Installed TWAIN devices: NONECrash info helps, but it would seem that you just see the old "intel chips don't cut it" problem. Turn of the intel graphics unit in the driver or even in the BIOS/ EFI. Perhaps updating your storage/ SATA driver when installing the SSD simply has re-enabled it.

Oil paint filter -- image doesn't show up
I'm running CS6 on Windows7, Intel HD Graphics P4000 with driver updated. I have used the oil paint filter successfully in the past. Now when I try to use it, the filter window comes up, and it notes that the image I want to work on is at 25% size, but it remains blank -- the image itself never shows. Any ideas?
I have the exact same problem. Although, it has never worked for me -- just a grey screen where I expect the photo to be.
I did update the graphics driver for my Dell Inspiron 7520. It didn't change anything.
I also updated CS6 - no difference.
In other forums it was suggested the I go to Preferences; Performance; Advanced Setteings and check the "Open CL" box. But it is greyed out and I cannot check it.
Anyone out there know how to fix this??

I downloaded PS CC 2014 a few days ago, and just opened for the first time. The Oil Paint filter is no longer listed in the Filter menu. Has it been deleted in this "update"? I hope not because I use it as part my workflow and have it as a step in many of the Actions I've developed to produce my signature style.
Also, access to my Extensions and Exchange is blocked; that is to say, Extensions is greyed out in the Window>Extensions drop down menu. This means I can't use my watermarks.
In order to use all the features of PS CC and CC 2014, I have to save my work and open it in the other version, then switch back again to apply a watermark. Very annoying!
Any insight would be appreciated.
In Camera Raw, the button to toggle between pre- and post adjustments in the active adjustment panel has been reinstated, a good thing, but it should not have been removed in the previous "update".

No syncing is for Your Photoshop settings(not really) and presets between machines for a Photoshop versions CC to CC, CC 2014 to CC 2014 not between versions. Photoshop Preferences Settings like UI setting not to open documents and others are not synced.
Photoshop also has a feature to Migrate Presets between version of Photoshop, This has been available for some time. Photoshop menu Edit>Presets.. When you install a version of Photoshop you are also prompted with a question asking if yoy wish to migrate your presets from a prior version of Photoshop during the install process. Note the your new document Presets are not migrated but you can do that yourself with a file copy. Also Photoshop preferences are setting not Presets you need to set preferences you change from Adobe default settings.
Note no New Document Preset sync option. -
Oil Paint Filter not working - CS6 - Can you help resolve this?
Can you help? The CS6 oil paint filter is not working. The error is: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
I have the latest graphics driver software. I have the latest update for CS6. I have followed various community support recommendations to no avail.
In the Advanced Graphics Processor settings (preference, performance) only "Basic" is available and I can't select (grayed out) "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate computation" and can't select "use OpenCL".
My System: Windows 7 (64 bit), HP Pavilion dv6-3250us Notebook with Intel(R) High-Definition Graphics Driver.

Need Oil Paint filter enhancement to work with large images
As Adobe is not supporting the Oil Paint filter with the next version of PhotoShop, can the code for this filter be made available for open source development?
I desperately need to utilize effects that can be created using Oil Paint, but I have to have the code altered so I can apply these effects to relatively large image sizes.
The current filter works fine for relatively small image sizes around 500kb or so, but has little or no effect on images of around 100mb.
I need to have this capability. I would like to have the code of the current filter altered to be able to achieve this.
I realize I will need to continue using PhotoShop 6 as the code will not be supported with the next version of PhotoShop.
If this is not the correct forum to post this, please let me know where I should be asking this question.

Oh, and by the way, Oil Paint has been removed from Photoshop CC 2014, so if you're planning a business based on automatically turning people's large photos into oil paintings you should assume you'll be stuck with running the older Photoshop version.

Oil Paint Filter not working in Photoshop CS6?
Ok, so I have had PS CS6 for a couple of months with no problems. I downloaded the oil paint filter, but to use it i needed to update my GPU drivers, so I did and it started working. Last week, i noticed that when i attempt to use the filter, it says that need to have the box in the preferences section saying 'enable graphics processor' checked. before it was previously checked. Now when i go to it, it is greyed out because of an 'error' in my display drivers. I reinstalled my display drivers but it did not solve the problem. For some reason it is still greyed out. I know that my GPU meets the requirements for using oil paint, it was working fine before so why has it decided to stop working now?

Problem opening the oil paint filter
When I try to open the oil paint filter (either CS6 or CC), I see the dialog open for an instant and immediately disappear. There are no error messages, PS doesn't crash - the filter just fails to run.
I'm not finding any similar problems in searches. Others who've had problems with this filter have been told to upgrade their display driver - mine is already the most current. It would help if there were at least some error or warning message with a clue as to what's going on. I am certain I've used this filter in the past, but probably not since CS6 was new.
I'm running on a desktop system, Windows 7 with 32GB memory and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 with 1 GB graphics memory.
I haven't notice any other problems in Photoshop with other filters, etc. Any ideas?I backed out to the previous driver level - still no joy. It's not the best software behavior to not display any sort of message pointing to the cause or at least confirming it's detected a problem. (Speaking as a computer engineer with 30+ years of complex software system design experience.)
Not sure I want to go further backward in drivers. Where do I go from here? -
Applying Oil Paint Filter to Large Scale Images
I need to apply the effects available from the Oil Paint filter to very large, 80mb images. The filter works exactly as I need it to on small images, but not at large scale. A comment I have heard in a Lynda.com video on the Oil Paint filter mentioned that the filter does not work well on large images. However, I REALLY need this, even if I need to pay someone to write a program that can do it! Does anyone know if / how I can get the filter to work for large images and / or if there is a third-party plug-in that will provide the same results? Having this filter work on large scale images could make or break a business idea I have so finding a solution is extremely important to me.

I just wanted to let all you folks developing Photoshop how angering and frustrating it is when you
remove a feature or a filter without making it clear to your users ahead of time. I never would have
updated Photoshop had I known the Oil Paint filter was going to be yanked. I'm in the middle of a
project in which it was a crucial feature for me. Now I need to go and load of an old version of PS.
That is if you didn't kill that option off as well. You folks did the same thing to the iPhone app ...
when you yanked the creative filters pack .... which we paid for and again found incredibly useful.
Don't get me wrong .... I love everything you've done with Photoshop since V1 Beta. It's an amazing
tool that has changed my art and career for the better ... to places I never could have gotten without
it. But it's pretty short sighted to take out features that people find useful and have based images for
jobs on having the ability to use.
You folks just erased my Xmas day as I'll either be reinstalling the old version and making up for the
time lost today. Or trying to figure out how to simulate the effect .... if that can ever be done. Sorry if
this comes off as whiny ... not the intention.

I think I own like 665 they ever shipped and v1 beta before that so I have handle on how to use
the app. Again ... I love Photoshop but I hate when they yank the ability to use filters I spent a ton
of money on for previous versions and found very important. I hate when they put out that iPhone
app then offered those "pay for effects" packs. Then they hose all of use who paid to have those
things and again came to use them and find them useful ... then have them just tossed aside ...
these guys are genius developers .... how hard could it have been to post these? To top it all
off PS CC 2014 is dog slow on regular filters it used to fly on. Progress is not always such a good
thing. It's nice that they are expanding the functionality of PS to 3d, video and all that other crap.
Unfortunately for use that do artwork that just sits there ... we get screwed in the deal. PS owns
the market ... all we can do is piss and moan once in awhile. Unfortunate I have to go back to
old machines with old software to do my work ... but at least I can still do it. Not something I can
with the current version -

I'm not sure what I expected when CC '14 came out the other day but suddenly having an entirely new version of PS installed wasn't exactly it. That's of no moment but I have to ask, where did Filter... Oil Paint ... in PS CC 14.2 get to in PS CC 2014.0.0? I'll be truly aggravated if it's gone ...

Missing Oil Painting Filter
in photoshop CC 2014 where did the oil paint filter go? it is the filter i need for almost every photo -
Don't know which version of Photoshop to get, I need the oil paint filter.
I'm a new designer and on class I did some really cool stuff with the oils paint filter and I LOVE IT, it will be a great part of the style I want to develop but I'm on a CC trial and it is not there! I've done my homework and have found out that apparently the latest version of CC has eliminated the beautiful filter! Go figure!
I want this filter BADLY, so what are my best options?
Adobe has so many products and versions that I'm really confused about what to get.
So should I get CS6? Or is there an older version of CC that has the oil paint filter?
I also saw somewhere there's an oil paint filter or plug in the CC but only for windows and I'm on a Mac.

The Oil Paint Filter is gone from PSCC2014. What replaces it?
I am disappointed to "not" find the Oil Paint filter in PS CC 2014. But all the old old filters are still available. I am on a trial basis for CC. Trying out LR....and PSCC

When I try to use the Oil Paint filter in Photoshop, I get this error message:

I have updated both my system and Photoshop. When I'm at work on a newer machine the filter works great, but I've been working from home on a macbook from 2007 and it doesn't work. I can't afford to buy an ENTIRELY NEW laptop simply to use this filter.

When you go to Preferences > Performance and look at the GPU settings, what is the mode? Basic, Normal, or Advanced?
Perhaps you can try ratcheting down the settings,but I somehow sense your video card is not supported and your vram is below the 256MB minimum.
