Oil painting effect in Photoshop 7.0

How can I emulate oil painting effect in Photoshop 7.0.1?
I don't want to upgrade to newer versions .
Are there alternatives? thanks.

GIMP, Krita, PDPaint, Flamepainter and otehr freeware programs have all sorts of vector blur/ smear/ flame filters that could emulate this in one way or another...

  • How Did I Do It?  Oil Painting Effect- Really Realistic!

I'm sure I was using PS CS3 32 bit on Windows XP when I did this...
Notice in the model's hair the shiny reflections of the thick "oil" brush strokes.  I have used Eye Candy and Photo Tools before, but about all I find when I search now is pixel bender, and that doesn't come close.  Any ideas?  I would love to be able to do this again!
I'm using 12.0.4 64 bit on Windows 7 Home Premium.  Thanks!

There are lots of ways you might have done that.
You might google for photoshop Oil painting effect or Russell Brown has some great painting videos for cs5

  • Oil Paint effect to Video Timeline Clip

Check out this video I put together for this question,
    http://youtu.be/tPiNYqk3BcQ
As you can see I'm just playing around w/ the effect/amounts etc.
I had to manually apply this effect at every frame in the Photoshop's Timeline, which takes a to long... I would love to do it to whole clips. What's the best workflow for that?
A way I tried w little success before was to split the clip into individual frames, (forget how to do that) & then apply a batch command to all the pics, I remember trying this method & it not working w/ Oil Paint effect.
    Thanks for your help.

You can apply the Filter to an imported clip in Video Timeline Animation as opposed to Frame Animation.
But if you are trying to animate the settings of the Filter I guess you may be trying to fit a round peg in a square hole (or however that figure of speech goes) and might be better served with using the proper program for the task, possibly After Effects.

  • Early 2012 imac not showing oil paint filter in photoshop

I do no see the oil paint filter. Some research says graphics card not capable. That feature was the main reason for installing photoshop.

    Thank You.
I remember now that I dsiscovered the oil filter on an old 2005 macbook I purchased for
40 bucks at a pawn shop. I was so impressed with photoshop and illustrator that
I joined creative cloud. After searching this site I purchased Topaz impression from the
app store. It is very nice and also plugs into photoshop and has family sharing feature.

  • Pixel Bender - Oil Paint Module Crashes Photoshop?? Any ideas?

I have downloaded and intstalled pixel bender for PSCS5. It works well except for the oil paint module.
Can't move sliders. Every time I use it, Photoshop crashes!!! Any ideas???
    Thanks, Joe

    Samantha,
I have not had the problem with any other filter. Sorry I do not have a
    crash log.
The problem occurred several times, but recently I have not been able to
recreate it - in other words,
it now seems to be working. I'll let you know if anything changes.
For your information I am using 32 bit Photoshop CS5 on a Windows XP
    Platform.

    Hi,  Joe.
First, thanks for downloading the plug-in. I believe you may  have hit a
bug we are planning to address shortly in an update. I'd like to  confirm my
suspicion, though, and ask if you have been able to re-create the  crash
using any other filters. One of the issues were addressing in our next  release
is actually a UI problem and not specific to the Oil filter. If you  have a
crash log, I'd be interested in checking the stack,  too.
Let me know either way; if it's not the issue I'm thinking  of, I'd like to
    investigate your problem.

  • Please restore the oil painting filter to Photoshop.

For the first time since version 2.5, I had to abandon the current version (cc14) and use an earlier version to complete a job where the oil painting filter had been used in smart objects.
I suppose the developers might just as well take out gaussian blur or smart sharpen next. Please! Don't be capricious; some of us use this software professionally.

This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.
    Feature Requests go over at
    Photoshop Family Customer Community
But before you start a new one do a search, the issue very likely has come up already.

  • How to get an oil painting effect using Illustrator

I am looking to do something similiar to this in Illustrator.http://www.oilpaintings-sales.com/oil-paintings/michelangelo-buonarroti-genesis-the-fall-a nd-expulsion-from-paradise-the-original-sin-79148.html
How do you blend the colors in the body for the shadows and the muscles, etc..  I created an outline of the image, and I could start by using a gradient mesh but using a gradient mesh means it gets too complex and we have to create the mesh in the shape of the body which makes the coloring more difficult and probably isn't the right way to do it.If I wanted to create a similar image can someone tell me about how to do the coloring for this.  I know how to get the color palettes right and the shadows but, the main problem I'm facing is blending in the different shadows created on the body with the skin tone. I don't mind spending hours using a gradient mesh to color this but I still think I'll face the problem I just mentioned.
If anyone can help me out it is appreciated, please try to elaborate on the details so I get a better understanding.
    Thanks.

Well, basically you lay down a base g-mesh (A). You get tones and shades close with general lighting in mind. Then you can lay down an additional layer of color or additional g-meshes for further showign and highlights. (B) when these are combined you get more dramatic tones (C) that are more easily tweaked and adjusted. In addition, using the Appearance Panel you can also add fills to apply textures (D)
Essentially for me, I find laying down a mid-range color base is best. Then I can add dark and light objects on top of that base to alter lighting further. Trying to get lighting perfect in one pass is expectionally difficult in any medium - traditional or digital (except 3d software).

The Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop

I too object to the oil paint filter being removed in CC 2014. It was extremely useful in a number of different ways, so I used it a lot. And especially irritating when I pay so much for the CC subscription to hear Adobe needs to dumb down the cool and useful features in favor of keeping other older less useful filters.  Weird.  So now I have to go back and forth between the old and new versions of PS to do what I want….

  • Oil Paint In Photoshop Casuses Crash

Just about 80% of the time when I use Oil Paint in Photoshop CC it just goes black and restarts my system and looses my work.  This only happens when using the Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop CC.  Does anyone have a clue as to what might cause this.  Asus P8Z77-V motherboard, Intel CPU i2700k, 32 GB ddr3,  NVidia GForce GTX660 Ti.  1SSD and 6 hdd's.  Run lots of other photo editing software and no problems with them.  Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    TIA

Update your graphics driver and configure it suitably. The oil paint filter uses GPU acceleration, so this is crucial.

  • I would like to make a portrait look like an oil painting.

I just bought a membership to CC 2014 and have a very nice portrait that I would like to try an oil paint filter on. I see that there is no oil paint filter in Photoshop CC. I have seen tutorials on-line that have an oil paint filter but that must be Photoshop CS6 or 5. Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on how to do that in Photoshop or will I have to buy a special program for that effect. Thank You.

hanks so much for the help. I was able to find the download. I downloaded the .zip and following the directions looked for c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Plug-ins\ . I could not find the exact place but did find this under CC 2014. See attachment. Do you think this is where I should copy them to? I am fairly familiar with computers but I don't know what the file is where the Plug-ins are located. I thought the plug-in folder was all by itself, not nested. I hope this is of some help. I am flummoxed here! Thanks again.

  • How can i make the smooth paint effect?

Just see the below image. Can anyone suggest how do i get this effect using photoshop? or is there any other software through which i can attain this? I tried using HDR effects of photoshop as well as photomatix and lightroom. No where i could find this.

    Hi smILUv,
Here is a tutorial that demonstrates how to do exactly that: Photoshop New Oil-Paint Filter and Skin Tone Selection Tool.
The key is to use the Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Creative Cloud (CC). To do this, go to Filter --> Oil Paint.
This dialog box will appear and you will be able to make adjustments according to your image.
    This is the end result:

Does anyone know if there's a downloadable OIL PAINT filter for Photoshop CC2014 since they took away that filter from the 2014 version? Is there a way to get the filter without going back to the previous version?

I'm not sure what I expected when CC '14 came out the other day but suddenly having an entirely new version of PS installed wasn't exactly it. That's of no moment but I have to ask, where did Filter... Oil Paint ... in PS CC 14.2 get to in PS CC 2014.0.0? I'll be truly aggravated if it's gone ...

    It's gone.
