Oil slick mark appeared on LCD Screen

Hello, hope someone can shed some light on this problem, think its terminal though.
I was using my macbook (2007 mid) and was all fine, i went back a couple of days later, took it out of my bag and booted it up to find a large black area on the screen to the right with a large white square under it. The whole of this area is dead, the rest of the screen is fine. How has this happened whilst in the bag, looks to me like a right hand thumb my be the culprit but i would never hold my mac like this.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Paul

Unfortunately, it looks as though your LCD panel has cracked.  The panel will need to be replaced.  For a 2007 Macbook, it will cost nearly the value of the machine for Apple to replace it.  You can generally get better pricing from an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP)... or, if you're technically inclined, you can purchase a panel and attempt to replace it yourself:

  • Mark (stain) on LCD screen + Flickering

I have an Imac Late 2009. I have 2 problems since one month:
_1 My lcd screen has a stain (mark) on the upper right zone getting bigger and bigger.
_2 My screen started to flicker randomly. It is not the whole screen but just the left part.
Both problems appeared shortly after installing Lion.
I don't have apple care. What should I do?
    Thanks.

    1. Can you post a screen shot or camera pic? There have been heat related streaks on some iMacs.
    2. If it is just one part of the screen it sounds like a backlight problem. There are lamps behind the LCD, and either one of them is failing or part of the power inverter that runs them is failing. You need to take it in for an estimate. You can use this http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ to find the closest place, either an Apple Store or an authorized service provider. But be prepared, it will not be cheap if it is a lamp or inverter.

  • Random numbers started appearing on lcd screen.

I just started seeing random numbers appearing on my LCD Screen;  with that, the pictures also looked unclear.  Has anyone had this happen before?   Are there any fixes?  Thank you very much.  Happy Holidays!!
        Mark

    markpacana,
Can you describe some of the numbers and where they appear on the LCD screen? (ex.  in one of the corners or on the sides)
Do the numbers appear after every image that is taken?

  • A folder with an explanation mark appears on the screen of my ipod

When i turn my ipod on it displays the apple for a really long time then the folder with the explanation mark shows for a while then it turns itself off. I have tried to update and restore my ipod but then the ipod is not recognised on the computer so i have gone into my computer to find it via the usb ports but still it isn't found. When I put it in the port all it displays is either the folder, the apple logo or "Do not Disconnect" sign. The ipod also makes a really loud noise as though something is spinning inside like a C-D. Please can someone give me advice please.
If possible can you e-mail me on [email protected]

I take good care of my phone and i do not use it without a case. This is troubling me and I have read through many similar queries but i haven't found replies on any of them.

  • Strange marks on Curve 8900 screen

    Hi folks,
I hope someone can help me out. I have a new blackberry 8900 javelin (have like 4 months of use) and some strange marks appeared on the screen. They are small marks, but they don't disappear. I had the same problem with my last curve 8900 (I had 3 8900 models) but last time, the marks disappeared in a few days. Those on mine are not disappearing. I know it's not a liquid crystal leak, it's a malfunction or something, because the mark had a different shape in a few days ago. Here are some pictures i took to show the problem.
hope someone can help me out!
    thanks guys!

    Hey eduardopfm,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Those marks are definitely hardware/lcd screen related.  I would suggest contacting your network service provider or point of sale for repair options as this is not software related.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • A file folder with a ? Appears on my screen when turning on.  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

A file folder with a question mark Appears on my screen when turning on.  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

There are four general causes of this issue:
    1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
    2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
    3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.
    4. The internal drive has died or become unplugged. This is the most likely case if the computer took a sharp impact or there are unusual sounds coming from the hard drive's location.

  • Printing problems, black mark appears on document when printing using auto portrait/landscape

As the title says, pdf is fine on screen but when printing using auto portrait/landscape a black mark appears on the screen as in the photos below
when the orientation is selected the line disapears and the print works correctly
Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
    Thanks
    Ben

    Hello Pelle,
Thanks for the feedback. Our printing code in Adobe Reader Touch doesn't have that capability right now, but since you mention it we should probably do what you're requesting by default. I'll put that into our backlog for a future update, but I can't say yet when it will be available.
In the interim, if you have pages that are different orientations, you can print them in blocks manually to get what you want, but I understand that's a hassle.

  • My macbook fell and since then a white screen with question mark appears

    hey guys!
i really need to know what to do, my macbook fell while it was on. it froze so i restarted it, but the white screen comes in with the apple begining sound and everything but the screen stays blank for about two minutes and then a folde with a question mark appears. i tried putting in the cd that came with it, samething happened but after a while the appe sign appears and the computer started off my installation disc, so i try re installing everything, but when i get to the screen that asks to select a destination, there is nothing available.
i realize that the best thing to do is to go to an apple store and then sort everything out, but i am in haiti where the nearest apple store is in miami, i really need your help and i'm desparate cuz i cannot do anything without my laptop... please send me your help as soon as possible.
    thanks in advance

Your hard disk has been damaged. At this point, it will need to be replaced with a new one. You'll need to call AppleCare and they'll have you mail it in for repairs. I'm not sure what the usual turnaround time for that is internationally, but in the United States it's about a week. I'd tack on a few extra days to get the laptop to and from Haiti.
Either way, your computer will need to be repaired and the data that was on your hard disk will be lost. (Unless you take the machine to a 3rd party repair shop that specializes in recovering data from damaged hard disks.)

  • TS3423 17" macbook pro won't start blue file with question mark is all that appears on the screen

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
    Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Has anyone else got an oil slick problem on their screen?

I seem to have a problem with my screen, it seems to have an oil slick similar to what galaxy tabs have. Does anyone else have a similar problem and is it covered under the standard warranty for iPads?

I hadn't heard of this oil slick problem on the Galaxy Tab, but I just googled it and found some videos. If your iPad does that, it should be covered under the standard warranty, as long as it's not the result of you somehow misusing the device, dropping it, submerging it in water, etc. Take it to the nearest Apple store or authorized center.

  • Green-colored volume indicators that appear on the LCD screen NOT working

I have T61 with fresh install Window 7. After Win7 the laptop is VERY fast. The difference is incredible!
I was running XP and everything worked perfect, now the green-colored volume indicators that appear on the LCD screen is NOT working. Yes, I did downloaded the driver(s) from Lenovo site and made the rest work just fine.
Blue button works as well and when I open ThinkVantage I don't get any error.
    Any idea/help greatly appreciated.
(I can live with out it, but it would be nice to have a perfect running laptop)
    TIA
    Ivone

    Hi Ivone,
    Not ignoring you, honest!
I wasn't even sure that Lenovo supported Windows 7 on the T61... but they do! I don't have a Win 7 machine yet, but in the past, people have gotten their green bars back by re-installing one or more drivers.
I didn't find Windows 7 drivers listed in the T61 support matrix, but if you go to the Support & downloads page and select T61, then select Windows 7 as your OS, there are a couple pages of drivers available. (Sounds like you already found them, just noting it here for my own and others' benefit.)
Good luck, and please let us know if that works for you (and which driver fixes it, if you figure it out.)

  • Brand new Canon 5d mark ii has dust inside of the LCD screen.. !!!

Hello guys. I just received Canon 5d mark ii + 24-105mm lens kit in the mail couple of days ago. It's an amazing camera that will help to improve my work. I didn't want to use the camera until I received the screen protector and the UV filter to make sure that the camera is well protected.  (My previous SLR ended up having so many scratches on the LCD screen)
So today I received the screen protector. I was cleaning the Lcd screen to install the protector and I realized that there is a dust inside of the LCD screen. I didn't even use the camera more than to see if it functions right. It's totally visible.
I was wondering if anyone had this problem with their brand new camera ?!?!
I know there is an option to exchange the camera since it's in the return/exchange period but I really don't have time for this. I have photo shoots coming up and I really can't be without my camera more than couple of days. Unfortunately they don't have the kit in any of Bestbuy location in Los Angeles area that I can go in and exchange.  They will ask me to return the camera kit to a Bestbuy location and wait for them to credit my Bestbuy card (which will take 3-4 days - and i don't have enough credit limit to buy another one right away and be patient for them to give me my money back ) and replace an order online again.
    Any advice appreciated...
    Thanks

First of all. Thank you for your reply. I actually realized couple of other things that made me suspicios that this camera was used before. Of course i might be wrong however - the package shipped from Bestbuy Return center + loose diopter adjuster knob before than even touching it + having dust inside the lcd screen + hair and dust inside the lens - made me really uncomfortable keeping this camera.
Don't get me wrong, I love Best Buy. I've been shopping from Best Buy for years. I have been purchasing many things every year and I really do trust them.  That's the reason why i didn't mind to have Greek Squad 3 years extended waranty package with my purchase. However spending almost $3500 for a top of the line camera and not having it flawless from the first day made me a little disappointed. That's all..
I will be going to Best Buy later today and return the camera. I am just hoping that they can refund the money to my card in couple of days so i can place an order for a new one. Even better if i can return the camera and they can place an order from the store for me..
Thank you so much for your reply again...
