OIM Exchange Provision - Primary address (SMTP: vs smtp: proxy address val)

The Exchange provision process completes successfully, but it appears as if the proxyaddress that gets created is NOT for a primary address. This is indicated by the value being prefixed by "smtp:" (lowercase) vs "SMTP:" (uppercase). If I set the primary email on the user form manually it will update and create a primary (uppercase SMTP:) correctly for that same user. Is the behavior of the initial provision an issue with the connector or the Exchange (recipient policies) configuration?
** I'm aware that there is a 9.1.1 version of the Exchange connector that appears to have fixed alot of stuff, but I can't upgrade right now from my 9.1.0.1 version.

I'd have to second Mike Crowley. This is the way it has always been.
Snuffy has a correct email address on his mailbox of [email protected]
Someone comes along and adds [email protected] to his proxy addresses. Now, if someone internal sends a message to [email protected], Exchange consults the Active Directory first to see if any recipients match that SMTP address. If
they do, it routes the message to the local recipient rather than an external domain.
This is a feature, not a bug, and it is the way Exchange has been since Exchange 4.0 days.
Sometimes, observed, real-world behavior is better than any KB article. :-) I suggest you pass along this information for them to read:

• Some Outlook clients getting internal FQDN of newly installed Exchange 2013 CAS server as Outlook Anywhere Proxy address

Hello Folks,
I have this problem and is making me crazy if anyone have any idea please shed some light on this:-
1. Working Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients with webmail.xyz.com as Outlook Anywhere proxy address.
2. Installed new Exchange 2013 server (server02)with CAS and Mailbox role, Exchange install wizard finished and server is rebooted.
3. Server came up online started changing internal and external FQDN's of Virtual Directories and Outlook Anywhere to webmail.xyz.com
4. As soon as Fqdn's changed some outlook clients create support request that Outlook suddenly white's out and after reopening it is giving error cannot connect to exchange. upon checking Clients Exchange Proxy address is set to http://server02.xyz.com,
even though OA/OWA/ECP/OAB/EWS/Autodiscover/ActiveSync FQDN's Point to webmail.xyz.com, on all servers if i create new outlook profile for same user it picks up correct settings through autodiscover and connects fine, this is happening to about 20% of outlook
clients every time i am introducing new Exchange 2013 server in Organization. we have around 2000 users and planning on installing 4 exchange servers to distribute load and everytime changing outlook profile of close to 150-200 users is not possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Cool

Here are the EXCRA results
Here IP (x.x.x.x) returned is my Load Balancer IP (Webmail.xyz.com).

Hello,
I have issue when sending email to some addresses. Server respond with:
Remote Server returned '550 5.1.0 RESOLVER.ADR.InvalidInSmtp; encapsulated INVALID address inside an SMTP address (IMCEAINVALID-)'
My enviroment: Exchange 2013, Outlook 2010 - no cached mode. Issue happend with two email addresses but not always.
Any suggestion, how to resolve issue?
Thx.

Hi Tomas,
Does this issue occur in OWA? How is the impact, only one user or all users?
Please try to run Outlook under safe mode to avoid add-ins and AVs.
If there is any 3rd party add-ins, please try to disable them for testing.
Thanks

• UTL.MAIL error ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in

Hi,
I am new to the forum so please excuse if I post incorrectly without conforming to the standards.
We need to send mails using the UTL.MAIL package and have installed them on the database.
Whenever I am trying to send an email I am getting the following error:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in
[email protected]
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 654
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 671
ORA-06512: at line 2
The test code which I am running is as follows:
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test <[email protected]>',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
I have tried different combinations:
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test "<[email protected]>"',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
even tried
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => '[email protected]',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
Everytime I am getting the same error.
This seems to be working with an exchange mail server but never on the SMTP server.
In the SMTP server logs the sender address is not having the angular brackets <> unlike the other mails which are being sent over.
It seems that the SMTP server is pretty strict and the SMTP admin will not change any settings on the server.
The oracle version is as follows
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Could you please help me out with a solution.
Some how the angular brackets are geting stripped off (which UTL MAIL package generally does), Is there any way in which I can include the angular brackets.

I dislike UTL_MAIL - clunky and poor abstraction interface, and not well written.
Had a look at the code. It does this:
WHILE (ALL_RCPTS IS NOT NULL) LOOP
UTL_SMTP.RCPT(MAIL_CONN,'<' || GET_ADDRESS(ALL_RCPTS) || '>');
END LOOP;The GET_ADDRESS() function process the ALL_RCPTS parameter, returns the 1st address from it, and updates the (in/out) parameter with the remaining string.
SQL> var address varchar2(200);
SQL> exec :address := '<[email protected]>,[email protected]';
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
get_address=[email protected] address=[email protected]
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
get_address=[email protected] address=
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> The address is explicitly surrounded by brackets as per the RFC. So that is what your SMTP server should see.
If not - perhaps then our UTL_MAIL versions do not match. Cannot recall from what version I pulled and unwrapped the UTL_MAIL package code I have.
Personally though, I've ceased using UTL_MAIL a while back. It lacks in may respects. I have written my own mail package that supports multiple attachment, complex Mime formatting, attachments of 20+ MB in size, and so on - running on the UTL_SMTP interface (that provides the transport layer for sending mail). And for issues like you are facing, I suggest considering using UTL_SMTP directly.

• OIM use case- Email notifcation post Exchange provisioning

Hi,
Consider the following use-case:
After AD and Exchange accounts are provisioned for a user, email notification need to be sent to the user's manager containing some attributes. One of the attributes is user's email address which will not be given by the user. It would be concluded when Exchange Account is provisioned. Now this email adress is to be retrieved. It could be done by giving a JNDI call to lDAP in the java code.... how this is to be initiated...please give some pointers in this direction..

Like Rajiv is saying OIM normally sets the email address during provisioning so you can use the value from the process form.
There are some circumstances and configurations when Exchange will overwrite the email address with a "better" email address. In that case you can use s slight modification of this code http://iamreflections.blogspot.com/2010/08/manage-ad-with-jndi-demo-tool.html
The attribute you need to get is called mail (there are a dew other alternatives but mail is always present)
Best regards
/Martin

• How to use a ip address for pop & smtp server names when creating a new account

My xp PC is on a lan behind a Freebsd os [IE. flavor of unix] which is not running a dns server. The only way to reach it is by ip address. I have configured the account with a ip address for pop & smtp. When I create and sent a email, Thunderbird shows a window saying it trying to connect and after 10 seconds it goes away with out showing the status window. There is no email in the sent folder. Is it possible to do this ???? I can accomplish this using ms/outlook so I know it is possible.

I haven't tried this in years, but could you give this server a name and enter that into TB
Then in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts you add that name and ip

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Given the error you're receiving, it appears that the spelling of the email address is being put in incorrectly. Rather than spelling "iCloud" you have it spelled "iclod."

• AD and Exchange provisioning succeeds but OIM user creation fails

Hi,

When i create user in OIM, AD provisoning starts ,then AD user gets created , then exchange provisioning starts & exchange gets provisioned. Now when you search user with that ID, then no user found in IDM. Where as user gets created in AD and Exchange.

• SMTP server has rejected address

When sending an email to a specific address - and only for that specific address - I always get the following message from [email protected]:
Remote SMTP server has rejected address
Diagnosecode: smtp;553 sorry, your envelope sender is in my badmailfrom list (#5.7.1)

The same happens when I directly reply to an email from that address.
Sending the same email from my iPhone works perfectly.
What's wrong? Mail app otherwise works fine.
Any help much appreciated.THX

• Exchange Provisioning - Provisioning error

Hi everyone,
I use OIM 11g R2.
I want to make provisioning and reconciliation between exchange and oim.
Scenario 1:
I made reconciliation a user from exchange machine.
This user created in OIM.
And I want to provisioning this user form OIM to exchange.
Scenario 2:
I created a user in OIM.
I made provisioning this user to AD.
And I want to provisioning this user form OIM to exchange.
both two scenario, When I make provisioning, an error occured :

Do you have any idea ?
What is the meaning of "No provisioning handler is installed."
Altought I installed Exchange management Shell, why this error uccured?
and
If you know create user power shell script to execute power shell tool, can you say this script ?
I want to execute this script manually on power shell machine.
Thanks.
Best regards.

Try
Make sure that your IT resource account is in the member of:
1. Exchange Organization Administrators.
2. Local Administrators
This error may also happens if there are more than 100 smtp proxy addresses defined on the Default recipient Policy. If this is the cause, please split up all smtp proxy addresses into two new Recipient policies.
Also you can try with the Administrator account with which you are able to create mailbox.

However this Jar file is available in the OIM APP server under lib folder.

I am not sure why it is telling me this? Is it looking for the jar file in RM machine? Can you please advise?
I will assign points. Thanks in advance.

Yes, its unable to locate JAR file on Remote manager server.
Last time, i just copied ext and lib from Server\xellerate\ to remote manager folder.

you have to install *"Exchange Management Shell"* on the Connector server machine. For executing Power shell script This is required steps.

• OIM approval / provisioning workflows

Hi All
I have a query about OIM approval / provisioning workflows.
Application X (e.g. Active Directory) has an OOTB connector which can provision the user and manage his role in the application. The user can raise request for role change via OIM Admin console.
My query - Can I configure access policy/user group for creation of a base user identity in the application X. This will create user identities for all users in application X without any roles. Later user should be able to request for roles and upon approval, his role should be updated in application X.
Can this scenario can be implemented with any OOTB connector with provisioning and role approval workflows in place. Do you see any complexity in this. Please provide your comments.

The base provisioning van be done using access policies.
If you want request based role management in pre OIM 11g you would have to do it over custom ROs. There are a couple of ways to do this.
The easiest way to do is to combine the approaches in these two postings and create a custom RO that moves the user into an OIM group that has an attached access policy that manipulates the child table on the base target system RO.

http://iamreflections.blogspot.com/2010/09/oim-howto-target-system-group.html
Please take a look and see if this is understandable. I probably should write another entry that addresses this specific use case.
