Ok another newbie problem plz help me
Hi all, I just posted a few minutes ago where to find SDK 1.3.1 standard edition, I found and finished downloading it, I installed it, and the book I am using says the following, plz bare with me but I don't have a clue what this means cuz my comp doesnt have what that thing says. ok here it is:
Windows NT and 2000 Configuration
To set any environment variables on a windows NT or windows 2000 system, choose Start, Control Panel, System, Environment from the taskbar. A dialog box will open where you can view the current values of environmental variables and make changes to them.
The PATH variable might be listed in System Variables or User Variables. PATH contains a list of folders seperated by semicolons.
At the beginning of the PATH setting, insert the folder where you installed the SDK followed by the text /bin and a semicolon (";").
For example, if your PATH was c:\windows;c:\command and you installed the SDK into C:\jdk1.3 your new PATH should have the following value:
PATH c:\jdk1.3\bin;c:\windows;c:\windows\command
After making this change, look for a classpath variable. If you don't find it, you're done configuring theSDK. Click the Apply button to save yuour changes, and then reboot your computer.
If you do find CLASSPATH, place your cursor to the left of the existing CLASSPATH value and insert the SDK folder followed the the text \lib\tools.jar;.;
For example, if you installed the SDK into c:\jdk1.3 and your classpaht had the value c:\javaclasses, your classpath variable should have the following value:
c:\jdk1.3\lib\tools.jar;.;c:\javaclasses
After setting your CLASSPATH variable (if necessary), click the aplly button to make your changes permanent, and then reboot the computerl
Long isnt it? well anyway my path thing is completely different than what it says, when I double click it or press on edit, it gives me this:%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
and it doesnt look like anything of the stuff in the book. am I doing what it says or is there a mistake I made? if so plz tell me what I should do, no evil people plz I don't get all this stuff. :)For example, your PATH is %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem and if you installed the SDK into C:\jdk1.3 your new PATH should have the following value:
C:\jdk1.3;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem -
Hey guys
As you can see of the subject im just another newbie who needs help +)
Well...here i am newbie to java programming who extremely wants to now it and be able to manage it +)
My understanding that all that i need i can get from books. So is there any of you guys can give me an advise which book is better to start off. There is a huge amount of books on the market and i feel a bit lost.. which one?? +)
Or there is better option for me to learn Java??
CheersIf you can get the assistance of someone who really knows Java in person, that will be your most valuable resource. After that, the online Java tutorials, and any of the books recommended are good starting points.
If you've already got some sort of programming background, I'd personally recommend reading "The Java Programming Language" as a way to get a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of the language, then perhaps the Bruce Eckels book "Thinking in Java" (which is available online).
After that, your most valuable resources will be the JavaDoc APIs which you can access online, or download.
Finally, if you choose to ask questions here:
* Remember to search the forums for answers first.
* Try to include code to illustrate the problem you're encountering
* Always include all the error messages (including compiler errors).

Another Thread About Compiling
I'm having problems compiling some java source files, and after scouring these forums and doing countless google searches I can't seem to get this figured out.
The source files are divided into two packages: tic, and tic.event. As such, the directory structure is a folder called "tic" that contains several source files and a .jar file and another folder "event" which contains the remaining source files.
Here's the command I've been trying to use:
javac -classpath /home/tic:/home/tic/event:/home/tic/pircbot.jar tic/*.java tic/event/*.javaAnd I'm getting a ton of undefined symbol errors:

22 errors
Most of those classes (Time, TargetEvent) are in the tic.event package. Not sure why it's unable to resolve things like super and serializable though. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Ok, here is UserMode.java which should correspond with the last error for example:
package tic.event;
import java.util.*;
public class UserMode extends TargetEvent {
private String mode;
public UserMode(String sourceNick, String sourceLogin,
String sourceHostname, String targetNick, String mode) {
super("USRMD", sourceNick, sourceLogin, sourceHostname, targetNick);
this.mode = mode;
public String Serialize(ArrayList incoming) {
ArrayList outgoing =
new ArrayList(Arrays.asList(new String[] {mode}));
outgoing.addAll(incoming);
return super.Serialize(outgoing);
}Once again, I know this program works, so I'm not sure if analyzing code syntax is going to help here...
EDIT: Ok, yeah I'm pretty sure its something with the classpath too.. but what should I be checking here?

Log Message:
Another batch of compiler fixes.
QE notes:
Doc notes:
Bugs: SDK-24083, SDK-24084, SDK-23721, SDK-24386
Reviewer: Corey
Tests run: checkintests
Is noteworthy for integration: yes, fixes DMV issue and FB issue
Code-level description of changes:
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/tools/PreLink.java
Revert a last minute change, which I made before revision 12043,
by moving the while loop back outside the for loop. Otherwise the
iterator only gets created once inside the for loop. This fixes
SDK-23721 and SDK-24386.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/as3/SyntaxTreeEvaluator.java
Modified stripRedeclaredManagementVars() by checking if classInfo
is null before using it. It can be null when errors have
occurred. This helped reveal the problem with SDK-24083 and
SDK-24084.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/SourceList.java
Modified calculateRelativePath() to better handle multiple
directories which overlap by name. This fixes SDK-24083 and
SDK-24084.

I've been trying to do the tutorials in a book titled Apache Jakarta-Tomcat as part of my introduction to JSP. I'm new to Java but do know the basics. I have on my machine Java 1.3, Java 1.4, Java FrameWorks 2.1 and Jython 2.1 on Win2000 Pro. So enough about my configuration. I have never worked with packages also.
I downloaded the files from the books site due to the fact I make a lot of typos when hand coding Java (I've become a pretty good debugger of my own code). But everytime I go to compile the *.java I get error messages. So below you will find HelloTag.java and beneath that the error messages that are thrown when I try and compile it. I tested other bits of *.java and have had no problem compiling them. Is there a JSP module I'm missing?
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something from my configuration.

9 errorsWell, it looks like you've not got the servlet development kit JAR on your classpath. I think it'll probably be called servlet.jar on your system. Add that to the classpath if it's not already there.
Incidentally, you've bumped into one of the areas Java's slightly lenient - declaring a method that looks like a constructor:
public HelloTag() { }
public void HelloTag() { }The first is a constructor, the second is a normal method. I'm assuming you intended to have the former instead of the latter.
Anyway, hope this helps. -
Problems compiling Zaptel package [SOLVED-ISH]
Hey guys, I'm on an Arch64 system and I'm having problems compiling Zaptel (a dependancy for Asterisk).
Here's the pastebin of the errors I get from the Zaptel makefile: http://pastebin.com/776475
Here's my analysis so far:
There's a line in the Makefile for the zaptel driver that goes like this:
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.17-ARCH/build/ SUBDIRS=/home/woogie/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8 modules
This line activates the kernel's makefile in order to build modules, but specifies that the source directory for zaptel should be included in the make process.
Then things go down the proverbial drain - linux/err_kernel_only.h gets included in the build process, which is designed to do one thing only - stop the build process. So I'm not entirely too sure what's going on here. Is there something misconfigured on my system, or is the Zaptel build system flawed somehow, such that I need to compensate for it?Further information:
I've manually run the problematic make command from /lib/modules/2.6.17-ARCH/build on my own. After reading the kernel makefile documentation, I've learned of the V=1 flag to show me exactly what's going on. The failing command is this one:
gcc -Wp,-MD,/home/cestus/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8/.zaptel.o.d -nostdinc -isystem /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/4.1.1/include -D__
KERNEL__ -Iinclude -include include/linux/autoconf.h -Wall -Wundef -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -O2
-fomit-frame-pointer -m64 -mno-red-zone -mcmodel=kernel -pipe -fno-reorder-blocks -Wno-sign-compare -fno-asynchronous-unwind-tables -fun
it-at-a-time -mno-sse -mno-mmx -mno-sse2 -mno-3dnow -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wno-pointer-sign -I. -Iinclude -O4 -g -Wall -DBUILDING_T
ONEZONE -m64 -DSTANDALONE_ZAPATA -DZAPTEL_CONFIG="/etc/zaptel.conf" -DHOTPLUG_FIRMWARE -I/home/cestus/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8//include
-I/home/cestus/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8//include/oct6100api -DMODULE -D"KBUILD_STR(s)=#s" -D"KBUILD_BASENAME=KBUILD_STR(zaptel)" -D"KBUIL
D_MODNAME=KBUILD_STR(zaptel)" -c -o /home/cestus/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8/zaptel.o /home/cestus/zaptel/src/zaptel-1.2.8/zaptel.c
I've figured out that the bit which causes the failure is "-include include/linux/autoconf.h", because autoconf.h just includes the "err_kernel_only" header automatically, which then slays the build process. And I've also discovered that the Zaptel devs are uber-leet. They've found the magical -O4 level in gcc. You know, the one above 3, where the supported optimization levels in gcc are -O, -Os, -O2 and -O3 -
i'm new to java, just went through the tutorial just now..

i've installed the java compiler (j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe)
but it still isn't working.. any help?
thanks!then again.. i'm still having problems compiling..
i managed to install the right sdk, but.. i have to run the command javac from the bin directory.. else the command prompt won't recognise it..

Having problems compiling script
I am rather new to java an started a couple of days ago and I ran into a problem compiling this script in the command line
class VariableDemo {
public static void main (String args[]) {
int num = 1000;
System.out.println (num + " is the value of num") ;
At first I forgot to capitolize the 'S' in System (which is why I was getting errors) but after I had corrected it , I still could not get it to compile in a command prompt
even after I corrected my mistakes, I still get this error:
error: cannot read: VariableDemo.java
1 error
When I ran it through JCreator it compiled it just fine and found no errors. SO I just want to know if it is some thing that has to do with the command line or is there an error I am not seeing?
I am running Windows XP Pro with service pack 2 and using JCreator 3.50.010Sorry, I am new to this I just called it script out of ignorance, but, yes it is in the same directory. I even Pathed it out again to be sure.

How to programmatically jump from one topic to another in a compiled CHM file
Hello,
I'm working with the trial version of RoboHelp 9.0, trying to evaluate it for my company before we go ahead and purchase it.
Basically I'm importing a Word document and then exporting it into a .chm file.
I'm using a programing tool to jump from one topic to another in the compiled CHM file.
The topic is displayed just fine but the content on the left side stays closed and doesn't open accordingly.
I'm not sure how to extract from the RoboHelp viewer a topic's HTML address to serve as an input for my programming tool.
I'll appreciate any idea.hi
say there are two infoobjects X and Y.
X is existing infoobject and Y in new one.
go to infosurce-search for X-create export datasource - map the rules and load the data.
This is one way.
Other way is u can use X as a reference object of Y so that both of them have same structure and both objects will share common database tables in BW which are exsting for X.
Hope this helps.
Kindly assign the points if it helps. -

Problems compiling at91 driver for samutils-0.2.1
Hello All!
I'm having problems compiling the usb driver for sam7 tools. I am receiving the following errors:

Thanks for your help in advanceThank you for the reply, I noticed that the post below (its for Ubuntu) shows the gcc version to be 4.0.3

I poked around the Makefile in /usr/src/linux-2.6.39 and got rid of "-Wall" and "-Wno-implicit-function-declaration"

Unfortunately, I tried grabbing the package from the AUR, but I ran into the same issues. Seems the only common factor in this process is gcc.
Thanks for the help -
Problems compiling with packages
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could help me.
I have had problems compiling using a package. I have altered the classpath in autoexec.bat with:
SET CLASSPATH=%classpath%;C:\jdk1.3.1_02\classes;.
the package class files are stored in C:\jdk1.3.1_02\classes\helliker\id3
and I have imported the class with:
import helliker.id3.*;
I am getting the following error:
C:\My Documents\Uni work\mp3 project\test\Driver.java:1: package helliker.id3 does not exist
import helliker.id3.*;
^
Can anybody help?
Thanks,
DavePerhaps the version of Windows you are using does not use autoexec.bat. For example, in NT and XP, you set Classpath using ControlPanel/System/Advanced/Environment Variables.
Perhaps there is a typo in your Classpath, for example an extra space.
On a command line, try this:
javac -classpath C:\jdk1.3.1_02\classes C:\My Documents\Uni work\mp3 project\test\Driver.java
If that works, then definitely Classpath is not set as you think it is. -

Another batch of compiler fixes.
QE notes:
Doc notes:
Bugs: SDK-24472, SDK-14213, SDK-24555
Reviewer: Corey, Mike M.
Cycloner: Gaurav
Tests run: full cyclone
Is noteworthy for integration: Yes, the SwcDynamicArchive.java change
should reduce memory use in FB.
Code-level description of changes:
modules/swfutils/src/java/flash/localization/LocalizationManager.java
Added "locale" variable and initialized it to Locale.getDefault().
Replaced use of Locale.getDefault() with "locale" variable.
Added setLocale().
modules/antTasks/src/flex/ant/MxmlcTask.java
modules/antTasks/src/flex/ant/CompcTask.java
Added user-locale option.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/configuration_en.properties
Added user-locale description.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/tools/oem/internal/OEMUtil.java
Modified setupLocalizationManager() to only create a new
LocalizationManager if one hasn't been setup already.
Removed "finally { clean() }" from all local methods. It was
clearing out the LocalizationManager, which was causing the
configured locale to be lost. flex2.tools.oem.Application and
flex2.tools.oem.Library already call OEMUtil.clean(), so it
doesn't need to be called here.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/common/Configuration.java
Added cfgUserLocale().
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/config/ConfigurationException_en.properties
Added UserLocaleNotAvailable message.
modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/config/ConfigurationException.java
Added UserLocaleNotAvailable class.
compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/media/FontTranscoder.java
Modified getURL() to handle fonts in a SWC subdirectory. This
fixes SDK-24555.
compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/swc/SwcDynamicArchive.java
Modified save() to close and null out "out". This fixes SDK-24472.
