Ok I have a ? About Iphone and a .Mac

I'm looking into getting a Apple computer to compliment my new Iphone . The phone is my first Apple product and i like it however I've noticed i sometimes have problems syncing it to my pc that runs on windows vista . So do i have to get a mac computer to have a .Mac acct. or does my iphone qualify so i can get one ? Secondly The Apple computer i would like to get will cost a bunch so I'll be saving for it for a while it is a G5 desktop tower . It took me 2 months to save for the iphone and you could say I got bitten by the Apple bug and would like to complete the set .If I have to wait to get a .Mac acct. I will but I would like to know all the same. All replies welcome

I would also say that if all you want is a backup of your iPhone, you don't need .Mac. iTunes (on the Mac) will back up your iPhone. I had to do a hard reset, and iTunes remembered all my activation information. The only thing I had to reenter was cities for the weather widget and stocks for the stock widget, and maybe the password for my router. You would be better off backing up your Mac hard Drive regularly to a firewire drive using something like SuperDuper.
.Mac is great is you need to share data among multiple macs, particularly if you travel a lot. It also lets you create a personal web page, share photographs with friends, etc.
I would also encourage you to look at Steve Jobs demo of the upcoming Leopard (new version of OS X) version of .Mac at MacWorld 2007. It is a long demo and .mac is toward the end. The demo is on the Apple Website as http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/keynote/ (You can view this demo on your iPhone!)
This would be another reason to get an intel based Mac so you can run Leopard and take advantage of the new .Mac features such as being able to get on all your Macs even while traveling.
