Ok, looks like upgrading my G4 1.25 GHz PB is out

I've been reading everything I can find here and it looks like my PowerBook optical drive won't work with the Leopard DVD. The drive is a ComboDrive and is a Matsushita CD-RW CW-8123.
OTOH, I haven't seen anything about the SuperDrive in my G5 iMac (yet): Matsushita DVD-R UJ-845
I did notice that Matsushita drives have more reported failures than Pioneer drives, though that may be be because there are fewer Pioneer drives out there.

I strongly doubt that it's happening for even a major fraction of the people who have systems with this model of drive or, given now many have the model of drive, the large majority of people with PowerBooks would be unable to install Leopard, though of course it's early in the release of Leopard so we don't know how many people have tried. Whether nor you you'd have a problem I can't say with certainty, but I'd bet that all would go smoothly for you if your drive is having no problems reading DVDs now (if it can read the Tiger DVD, chances are high it would read the Leopard DVD as well). Up to you, though; unless there's something in Leopard that you badly need or want, there's little penalty in waiting (we may find that it's nothing more than just a run of badly-pressed disks).
I'm beginning to think that PPC machines (and possibly early Intel) should be left at Tiger, and only fairly recent Intel machines should use Leopard.
For what it's worth, I have or know of a number of older systems that have Leopard installed and that are working without problems, so I don't think it's related to older/newer systems per se.

Hello I am getting some nasty popups on safari. looks like malware. virtually all menus on safari are frozen out. Search with firefox and followed some directions to use the activity monitor to force quit these processes and it was no use.

malware on safari. tried activity monitor > force quit but they just popped back up. Please help.

The problem wasn't in quitting safari but everyone time I opened it, that crap would pop up. Should I be able to use it now without holding down shift?

Music Video does not playback it looks like a white negative!!

Please please help...I have downloaded itunes7 and now I cant watch any of my new or old music video's...the music plays but the video looks like a white negative...you can make out the faint outline of people and things moving but nothing else??????????????

I read a solution somewhere that worked for this music video problem, that was before i gave up on my music skipping and reverted back to i-Tunes 6 (so music no longer scratching but videos not working without delay/skipping.)
Anyway the solution was, Quit i-Tunes, select start menu -> control panels -> quick time. Click on advanced tab, uncheck box next to enable direct 3D video acceleraion and then open i-Tunes

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

I've tried resetting my phone, looking for the pics in the new 'deleted' folder. I tried forwarding the jpegs to sees if they'll appear in a new message (but turnout the phone won't let me forward these pics). Apple is trying to say it's the 30 day reason, but I know that is not the problem. ALl of my pics older than 30 days were viewable. It is the upgrade that screwed this up. Help! Important pics!

As for iPhoto, it sounds like you were trying to move files around in the library. That is a bib no-no in Aperture or iPhoto.

Actually, there seems to be a bit of a bug. Encountered this with a couple of files my wife made. The files were set to "open with" the new Keynote, but clicking the file brought up this error. Right-clicking and selecting "open with..." worked correctly. I can only assume the OS was attempting to open the file with Keynote '09 despite the file property setting.
Probably requires a Launch Services DB reset (although I haven't actually tried it on my wife's MBA yet...since she's still "working on stuff". So I can't confirm if it will solve the problem).

I had fits with the last link I posted. At first it worked fine, then all of a sudden, it quit working. I now have iCloud - iCal syncing, but iCal is read only. Not a real big deal since you can log onto iCloud using Safari and post a new event.
I finally gave up on Address Book because it kept creating multiple contacts, which if you tried to merge or delete the multiple contacts, the contacts were deleted. It also worked at first and then stopped working as it should.

IPhoto after upgrade still looks like the old one

So yea the thing is. after i upgraded iphoto to newest in Mavericks
it still looks the same. shouldent it be black now ?
mine is gray and looks like the one in Lion 10.7

Click on the full screen button in the upper right hand corner of iPhoto and you'll see what was shown in the Keynote address on the new MacBook Air. That was the full screen mode.

Photos look like garbage after iOS4 upgrade?

Every photo I had on my phone that looked good now looks like low resolution crap after this 4.0 'upgrade". All my wallpapers are pretty much unusable now so I'm going to snap a black sheet to use it's that bad.

I noticed my battery drains fast as well. My son was using it for 20 minutes playing games and the battery disappeared quick. I have tried shutting it off, then back on and disabled a few things. I am so far wondering why I even bothered to upgrade. Especially since mine is only a 3G. Will see...
