Ok my mac is full. now what?

so my computer is full, i have two external hard drives that are also full. can i default my computer back to when it was new?

It is possible to delete data to free up space. You do have to empty Trash after you delete files to free uop the disk space.
Go to http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/freeingspace.html for additional suggestions.

  • Backup drive full - now what should I do?

Time machine said the partition on the backup drive I'm using for TM backups is full. What surprising is that according to OSX, there are 111 gb available on that partition & 121 gb used. Why do you think TM thinks it’s full?
Also, it only gave me the options of using another external drive or choosing to stop backing up certain files. Since the first backup that TM does is a full backup & the subsequent ones are incremental backups, I thought of deleting all the incremental backups, leaving the full backup, & then starting TM. Would that work, i.e. would it compare the files on the Mac to the full backup & then back up any changed or new files?
In any case, I didn’t get the chance to do that since all the old files were deleted & all that’s left is 1 successful backup from earlier today & 1 discontinued backup from today. Assuming that the successful backup from earlier today is an incremental, what should I do now? If I erase it, will TM do a full backup?
    TIA,
    Ellen

I've had a quick chat on the phone with one of my people and they do know of such things but have stressed that this is only possible if Bluetooth is enabled or wifi and connected to a network which means someone on the same network has or was doing this - If it's bluetooth and lets say one of the friends sent you an app to sideload via bluetooth then consider this person to not be a friend - To fully clean your phone I would not recomend a factory reset I would in cases like this perform a system repair see below for details
This will factory reset your phone
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Replaced hard drive in Mac book pro now what

I just replaced the hard drive now what?

Why did you replace it if you didn't know what to do?
First, partition and format the drive for OS X.
Then, Install OS X on the drive.
Since you did not provide information on the Mac model you are using nor the version of OS X you plan to install, there's little more to tell you.

  • Set up Mac Mini Server, now what?

I helped someone set up a Mac Mini Server just out of the box.
turned on, connected directly to their router, put in all the new info to set up the mac mini and then looked at it....
So we read we need to create SERVER USERS, not users for a separate account on the mac mini, but server users.  did that, or so we think we did...
one person who wants to run it is running 10.5.5 on is mac book, so I went to the iMac running 10.6 and went to sys prefs and connected to the server ... or so we think we did.
the green light is on but NOW WHAT?
the server doesn't show anyone connected.
but they can see the server on the side bar and when they connect to that, they have to use the password for the mac mini not their server password we created so they are not connected to it as a server they are connected as a hard drive, but the server admin software shows that NOW there is a user connected...
Am I missing something.  how do you take advantage of the server software if you have to connect like you would to someone else's computer?
and then why create server users on the server if they are not connecting to it through that?
    What are we missing?

I am not sure if this is exactly what the original poster was looking for, but perhaps I can try to clarify for him because I am coming from a similar place (and I think there might be a lot more of us now that server is a $50 add on, so a lot of novices setting up home or small business servers for the first time).
I think this problem might be worsened by the fact that though apple has done a decent job of explaining how to set things up in the server app itself, they seemed to have skipped over what you are supposed to do on your user computers that you are trying to connect with the server.
Anyway, I would like to start out with using server on my mac mini for file sharing and time machine backups (and then expand from there, once that is up and running), so I have gone through the setup of these in the server app: creating the user accounts, assigning them access to a couple of external HDs that I have attached to my Mac Mini, i tried to match the account names to the user accounts that are on the laptops that we are trying to wirelessly connect to the server, etc.
So my expectation is that then I would restart my computer, it would match up the username on the laptop with the username account on the server, i would login and then the file shares would automatically mount. Or, I could go into my Login options on my admin account of one of the laptops that I am trying to connect to the server and I could join it to the server. Both of these options seemed to be spelled out in the only explanation of what is supposed to happen from the user perspective, which was in the Snow Leopard documentation:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Mac_OSX_Server_v10.6_Getting_Started.pdf on pg 111 or so.
But neither of these routes are working for me, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong.

  • Can't sync my iPhone to both my PC & Mac...now what?

I was initially able to do a sync from my Mac (photos, podcasts, audiobooks and videos), then connected iPhone to my work PC laptop and only checked on the "info" page: calendar and contacts (Outlook) and bookmarks (IE). The first sync worked, and it had everything on it. But then when I went to reconnect the iPhone to the Mac, it wont show up under devices now and comes up with an unknown error. I had to do a restore.
Not sure what to do; I can't migrate all of my data together on one machine (cant dump my "fun" media on my work laptop, and can't keep calendars & contacts updated if they reside on the Mac (since they are Exchange based in Outlook). So:
    1. Are there maybe any sync programs out there that would syncronize my PC calendar & contacts to the Mac (so the iPhone can just have the partnership with the Mac)
    2. Has anyone figured out a way to allow to iPhone to go back and forth between the PC & Mac for syncing (as long as they are not trying to sync the same type of data)?
Any other thoughts out there - I know I'm not alone! Thanks

I figured it out!!!! (PTBoater, you led me down the right path!). You have to do as you mentioned, uncheck "automatically sync" on the info page, and check "only syn checked items". Then after you finish syncing with either the Mac or PC, uncheck both of them, click apply, and disconnect and the device should be recognized by the other machine. This worked for me...hopefully it will work for any of you guys out there struggling with it..let me know...

  • My mac air start up disc is full. What do I do now

My Mac Book air start up disc is full.  What to do now?

Do you have an external drive you can copy files to before you delete them? If you have apps you no longer use look in the app or it's download dmg to see if there is an uninstall. In itunes at the top menu there is a click on to find duplicates. You will have to scroll thru to find it. You can use this for videos and music. In your browsers clean out the cache and history files. Delete any music videos or picture you no longer use or need. Or store them to a back up drive. You need to have at the least 10% free disk space. Read this link.http://www.computerworld.com/article/2476645/mac-os-x/liberation-10-os-x-steps-t o-free-mac-disk-space.html

  • Apple TV 1st generation. purchases movies are not synch with itunes anymore. Hard disc is full now. How to transfer to MAC.

Sorry for my bad englich. I have an apple TV first generation for somie years now. I used to buy movies. Via Itundes sync they got transferred to my mac mini. This is not working anymore (half a year). Hard disk on apptle TV is full now.
I did not change any configuration. Computer and TV are activated for same store account.

Are you trying to transfer stuff to iTunes from AppleTV or from AppleTV to iTunes.
Syncing of purchases from AppleTV to iTunes is no longer a necessity if your country supports purchases in the cloud - you should just be able to download old purchases from the internet in iTunes - go to the iTunes Store page with the home icon and look for the Purchased Quick Link on the far right.
If AppleTV is full and you want different content you will need to change the sync Settings in iTunes - you can sync manually which is what I preferred.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Just got a Nikon D610 and CS5 for Mac can't open the images -- message says installed version of camera raw doesn't support the camera.  Downloaded the Raw 6.2 update for Mac, but installation failed. Now what?

just got a Nikon D610 and CS5 for Mac can't open the images -- message says installed version of camera raw doesn't support the camera.  Downloaded the Raw 6.2 update for Mac, but installation failed. Now what?

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.
