Ok seriously, this whole "Error: Serv:RequestTimeout" is ridiculous!

What is the deal with this?!? Sometimes (very rarley) iChat seems to work ok, but most of the time whenever I'm trying to chat with somebody, I'm able to send my message, but instead of receiving their message, I get these annoying pop ups that tell me "An AIM service error occurred. Error: Serv:RequestTimeout".
I've read about others having this problem, and I've done the whole Port 443 thing, I've tried forwarding ports on my router, I've tried erasing and re-installing OS X (because I'm always having other issues, with sites like youtube - don't get me started), but nothing is working.
Does anybody have any other solutions besides the ones that have already been stated that might work? This is getting old. Oh and btw, none of these problems were happening when I first got my MacBook (in January) and things were working perfectly for almost 2 months. So this is pretty recent, like the last two weeks or so.

Hi! ok.......i'll do my best. but it's word for word the same problem as junlee. When chatting, "Error:Serv:RequestTimeout" appears and interrupts my connection. only happens at home.
I'm with Comcast and I have the WCG200-CC router
Mac Firewall status:
set to Allow all incoming connections
Quicktime Streaming setting:
I followed your advice and Set System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5 and Restart iChat. Then set iChat menu > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Drop down to 500kbps

don't think so - i thought parallels went out with ancient history! ha ha
Methods of opening ports in modem and/or router.
no clue on that one
Is Internet Sahring On ?
no
What Logi in port is iChat Using.
switched to 443, have tried 80 and the default
What ISP are we talking about ?
Comcast
What have you tried to get around any issues ?
set at 443
deleted com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restarted iChat
MANY TIMES
all was well with Tiger. the moment i upgraded, hit and miss errors. i'm bounced off my own router about every 5 minutes or so. but on some days, no worries. extremely annoying and interrupts my workflow when discussing things via chat.
i found ONE piece of information saying that Leopard has major problems with G routers which i learned mine is and that only N routers running at 5 Ghz work.
so, that's what i know. i can't switch from Comcast.
any thoughts?
thanks in advance. you are always SO helpful! helped me 3 years ago!!!

And just about a month later this issue comes up again. It seems that time is the only real answer to fixing this issue. I tried a combination of solutions last night and when I woke up this morning, I launched iChat...it flickered (like it does before it says you have logged in too many times too quickly) and I immediately quit the app.
Started up Adium, works like a charm.
Opened ichat about a half hour later, and started flickering again..what gives

  • Error: Serv:RequestTimeout

iChat shows all of my AIM buddies as offline and when I go to instant message one of them I get the following error after a few minutes: Error: Serv:RequestTimeout.
I was able to sign on iChat about an hour ago so I am unsure as to why this is happening? Any help is appreciated.

ya, you did the right thing... what you really need to do is switch to port 443, and turn ssl on... otherwise, it would go right back to 5109...

  • "AIM error. An AIM service error occurred. Error: Serv:RequestTimeout" wha?

i got this message,"AIM error. An AIM service error occurred. Error: Serv:RequestTimeout" and it happens every time i try and IM someone. anyone have any idea why? also...im new to ichat -- and am used to AIM. don't really understand it...therefore right now...don't like it. but im sure once i get the hang of it, i will...

Go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings and whilst Logged out of AIM change the port to 443 and then Log in to AIM.

  • "An AIM service error occurred.  Error: Serv:RequestTimeout" - Please help.

So I've been having the dreaded
    "An AIM service error occurred.
    Error: Serv:RequestTimeout"
pretty much ever since I got my MacBook Pro a year ago. Up until recently, it only popped up maybe once a month. But now it's gotten to the point where I get the error message within 5-10 minutes of a chad starting with someone else. I have tried changing the port and whatnot, but I still get the same error message. I have gone through pages of similar topic forums, but no solution has fixed my problem.
    Does anyone have any advice?
P.S. I tried switching to Adium. I hate it.

Shut down the computer any router and modem.
Repower the Modem and wait until it says it is Ready.
Then any Router and wait again.
    Lastly power up the computer.
Also check that any DNS servers listed in the modem or router set up pages are copied across to the Mac > System Preferences > Network (Maybe advanced button > DNS tab).

  • Might this whole Error -8 issue be an Apple/AIM issue?

Much as I appreciate the invaluable assistance from the gurus in this iChat AV Forum (I DO, and I'm still trying to test a wide variety of their suggestions and fixes), I just think what's being overlooked is that the Error -8 phenomenon's become so prevalent recently - just look at the posts over the past few days - and affecting such a wide brand range of routers and external hardware (NAT routers not withstanding), that the common denominator is some internal issue with iChat's interoperability with AOL's AIM servers.
Now, I don't have a .Mac account, but I do know that I can access Apple's .Mac Servers to test iChat on any one of their appleu3xxx accounts. Other users' positive tests seem to verify that fact.
Skype video works with a Mac. SightSpeed video works with a Mac. Heck, no other software I've tried appears to have a problem with blocked Ports and SPI invites and the like. And it would appear to a layman like myself that all these other software developers are dipping into the same technology well, as it were, and just bottling it with a different label.
For something like this Error -8 to be so widespread, to just "happen" to many who've experienced consistent operational success with iChat for such a long time... Well, that seems rather suspect and too coincidental to me. Might not Apple take a peek into their own backyard and realize someone left the gate open... or closed in this case?
And now that I have vented, I will return to Ports 5060 and 5190 and their 20 friends at 16384-16403 to badger them for a little love.
    Onward...

    Hi Ralph...
If you set up a Network with lots of devices in
default mode it is likely that Web Browsing and Mail
Apps will be able to access the Internet as the ports
they use to do are below what is normally closed off
    in the device.
This does not mean your network is set up properly.
iChat is much more fussy about it being a good
network, before you even get to the point where you
can say it does not go through NAT devices that well
(when you have several in a chain)
If the network does have two DHCP servers on the LAN
the chances are that iChat will not work (the
computer gets two IPs from two routing devices)
Similarly if you are both Wired and Wireless to the
same routing device with different IPs then iChat can
    have problems.
    Okay, how about this...?
    My plot thickens...
    Current home network consists of:
2Wire Gateway DSL Modem Model 1070-B
    Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router
Broke the network down to a just the naked 2Wire modem plugged directly into the B&W via Ethernet. No Mac Firewall enabled. No built-in 2Wire Modem Firewall enabled. One DHCP Server. Wide open. The Error -8 remained.
    Next test...
Reconnected home network to original configuration (default 2Wire Firewall ON, Netgear Router UPnP on, with no ports forwarded, with SPI Firewall DISABLED, with DHCP Server DISABLED, and NO Mac Firewall).
I booted up iChat AV on my trusty, 7-year-old old Pismo PowerBook with 10.4.8 installed. Plugged in the identical iSight camera used on the B&W. Contacted the same party with whom the last Error -8 occurred not minutes earlier, and... a video chat initiated without so much as a hiccup. Flawless. That's the same modem, the same router, my original settings, and even using Airport 802.11b. On a machine that's as old as my B&W, with only a G3 500 processor.
    Go figure.
The only difference I can see between the B&W and the Pismo is that the Pismo doesn't have Security Updates 2006-007Ti, 008Ti and 2007-001Ti, as well as the latest iChatUpdatePPC installed.
Hardware doesn't seem to be the issue.
    Could it be software-based?
    Just wondering. And, thanks.

  • While viewing a page I suden get "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found." However I can back arrow to the page

I just upgrade to versions 18.0.1. I am suing Window 7 64 bit.
Now I while I am viewing a page I suddenly receive the error massage "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found."
I can use the back arrow key to bring the paper back.
If I have several tabs open, I can watch one tab after another change from the page name, It doesn't seem to matter who page it is, Yahoo, Washington Post, NBCNews,

I am not a techie. I keep 15-20 to tabs open at a time for reference while working. When I upgraded to this version, all my tabs were closed and my history was erased. I still have not recovered from that loss. I do not want to have this repeated!
If I was using pdfforge extension (what ever that is) before the upgrade, why is it venomous now?
Besides this issue, since upgrading I suddenly starting having the audio from commercials being played from tabs that are not active (open). I now have to leave my audio muted.
I expected assistance from Firefox not some unknown individual ( iamjayakumars) who for all I know is a troll trying to get me to do something to expose my computer to attack.
I allowed Firefox to collect data they needed from my computer when I submitted the question.
Fix the bug in your program! I have used Firefox since it came out. I am within a hairs width of switching browser. The only thing holding me with Firefox is my bookmarks. If I figure out how to export them, I am gone.
    FIX YOUR BROWSER!!!
