OK...the fix for 3.4 problems here...

Hi All,
Short version: Fix is to delete Aperture and reinstall. Everything now works fine. If you have 3.0 or later DVD it no longer needs a serial number.
Background story...
OK, this was not Apple's finest day for an install...messy and costly downtime.
I went through te same as others:
1) crashed every time,
2) then deleted the Aperture plist to get it to run but no FB and other anomalies
3) did full install and update we are now apparently good to go.
ALSO, Apple seems to have done away with any serial number protection. I have a DVD media version of Aperture 3.0, and it has up to now required installation, entering the Aperture 3 UPGRADE SN, then my Aperture 2 SN, then I could run Software update to get to the current version.
NOW...I deleted my problematic 3.4 installation. (simply deleted the App alone), ran the installer for 3.0 from the DVD and it did not ask for any serial numbers. I then ran Software update, selected 3.4 and everything (at least everything I care about, lol)  now seems to be working.
Regards,
KJ Doyle

Trashing the Aperture application and then reinstalling a pre-3.4 version of Aperture worked for me. In my case I used a 3.1 trial version from the Apple website (since I didn't buy the original Aperture via the App Store). No need to enter the serial number, but I had to create a new photo library (since my library was upgraded to 3.4 upon yesterday's original attempt to upgrade to version 3.4). I then ran Software Update, which recognized that I needed to upgrade Aperture 3.1 to 3.4. Upgrade was successful.
I was able to set up my web export accounts, i.e., Flickr and Facebook, via Preferences, though I did this before the upgrade to 3.4 a few minutes ago. I closed the application, reopened it at the same time holding down the Option key, which allowed me to choose my original photo library from yesterday. So far so good, and no crash. Thank you, all, for your help!

We've reached out to the Hotmail team and they've determined that this is a bug in their code. (It was masked by a timing issue in 3.5 that was fixed in 3.6.) We've worked with them to develop a fix but they may not have deployed it yet.

  • What is the fix for some applications repeatedly asking permission to accept incoming connections?

What is the fix for some applications repeatedly asking permission to accept incoming connections?
On every restart, AutoPairs and Epson Event Manager asks me to reject or agree to allow incoming connections. It is very aggravating and time-wasting. I know other Mac users who have the identical problem with other applications on their Macs.
Isn't there some way to make my Mac understand that "Yes" means "Yes" once and for all?
I am presently running Yosemite, but this was a problem with prior OS X versions too.
    Respectfully,
    Nate

This is a comment on why you might, or might not, want to use the built-in Application Firewall.
The firewall blocks incoming network traffic, regardless of origin, on a per-application basis. By default it's off, and when turned on, it allows applications digitally signed by Apple, and only those applications, to listen on the network. It does not block outgoing traffic, nor can it distinguish between different sources of incoming traffic, nor does it filter traffic by content.
No matter how it's configured, the firewall is not, as some imagine, a malware filter. If that's what you expect it to do, forget it. All it will do is bombard you with pointless alerts.
Consider some scenarios in which you may expect the firewall to be useful.
    1. You enable file sharing, and you allow guest access to certain folders. That means you want people on your local network, but not outsiders, to be able to access those shared folders without having to enter a password. In the default configuration, the firewall will allow that to happen. The router prevents outsiders from accessing the shares, whether the application firewall is on or off. But if your computer is portable and you connect it to an untrusted network such as a public hotspot, the firewall will still allow access to anyone, which is not what you want. It does not protect you in this scenario.
    2. You unknowingly install a trojan that steals your data and uploads it to a remote server. The firewall, no matter how it's configured, will not block that outgoing traffic. It does nothing to protect you from that threat.
    3. A more likely scenario: The web browser or the router is compromised by an attacker. The attack redirects all web traffic to a bogus server. The firewall does not protect you from this threat.
    4. You're running a public web server. Your router forwards TCP connection requests on port 80 to your Mac, and the connections are accepted by the built-in web server, which is codesigned by Apple. The application firewall, still configured as above, allows this to happen. An attacker hacks into the system and tries to hijack port 80 and replace the built-in web server with one that he controls. The good news here is that the firewall does protect you; it blocks incoming connections to the malicious server and alerts you. But the bad news is that you've been rooted. The attacker who can do all this can just as easily turn off the firewall, in which case it doesn't protect you after all.
    5. You're running a Minecraft server on the local network. It listens on a high-numbered port. You, as administrator, have reconfigured the firewall to pass this traffic. An attacker is able to log in to a standard account on the server. He figures out how to crash Minecraft, or he just waits for you to quit it, and then he binds his own, malicious, Minecraft server to the same port. The firewall blocks his server, and because he's not an administrator, he can't do anything about it. In this scenario, the security is genuine.
    6. Here is a more realistic scenario in which you might have reason to enable the firewall. Your MacBook has sharing services enabled. You want those services to be available to others on a home or office network. When you're on those networks, the firewall should be off. When you move to an untrusted network, you can either turn off all the services, or enable the firewall with a non-default configuration to block them. Blocking is easier: one click instead of several.

  • The fix for the A12E1 Error code!!

After weeks of talking to people at Adobe and doing every single fix they told me and having complete failure every single time I finally got it nailed thanks to the 6-7th guy I talked to!
Here is the fix for A12E1....
On your computer you will create a NEW USER ACCOUNT
Be sure to give it ADMINISTRATOR access
Go to Adobe.com and download CRETIVE CLOUD, it will install the CC as well as the ADOBE APPLICATION MANAGER
When the install is complete and you've downloaded all of the programs you want SWITCH BACK to your old USER ACCOUNT and the programs will all be in there ready to roll.
I never thought I would be done with this giant pain but it really does work
Hit me up on Twitter and let me know how it goes for you. @Bruce_Bishop
    Enjoy

Uninstall the application, reinstall it. Also download the update manually from the Adobe site. Without knowing anything about your system, it doesn't get any more specific than that. And please ask such questions in the product specific forum next time.

I’ve been struggling with connection problems for a week. Thankfully, I found a fix. Your mileage may vary, but this may be your answer:
Fix for Wireless Connection Problems on MacBook Pro

Yeah BR, please tell me what your cure is. I have the same setup as you, Vista with the same wireless card you have. Cannot stay connected to the internet. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support and they can't fix it. I hate this f....ing computer, will never buy another one. Please let me know what you did. Once I get it running right I'm selling it and will buy a cheap Dell, never have any problems with them. I have keyboard problems, capital letter problems, connection problems, and download can take 1 to 2 days. Pure BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is that the one available in the repo does not support sfz files (it only supports gig).
I just compiled the one from AUR. I don't know how I missed that, even though I looked for it in the AUR. It's working perfectly now.
I am curious though why the one directly from the site was not compiling.
Thanks a million for the tip

  • I have used Pages 09 and Keynote without any major problems until this new update. I have read many of the fixes but have a problem. When you get Pages 09 and Keynote back, Apples continues to want to update the 09 system. So it stays updated.

I have used Pages 09 and Keynote without any major problems until this new update. I have read many of the fixes but have a problem. When you get Pages 09 and Keynote back, Apples continues to want to update the 09 system. So it stays updated. I have had to turn off my auto updating that was nice but I'll do it one at a time in order to keep the Pages 09 and Keynote. When something works don't mess with it. Any fixes out there?

I can't say that I have had a problem playing videos in Flash because I could always play them in browsers other than Firefox.
In Firefox Tools>options>Advanced Hardware acceleration is turned on.
I don't know if that is different that tuning it off and on in Flash or not, but for now it is a moot point.
As I stated in my previous message, after following all earlier suggestions/instructions nothing helped. But The latest one, someone suggested that maybe version 17 of Flash might be a stable version.
I made no other changes except to install it, a few days ago, and so far so good.
    Many thanks for your help,
    Giovanni

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Anyone know when Mac will have the fix for the slow internet due the 10.8.2. upgrade?

I just uped to 10.8.2 on a Mac pro, and know the internet throughput has dropped from a Ping of 87, download 24.24 Mbps , upload 3.82 Mbps to a ping of 248, download .37 and up of .17.  I have plugged two other Macs (one at a time) into the same network cable as above and got the per 10.8.2 upgrade speeds. Seems that one must conclude that the slow internet issue must be due to the 10.8.2 upgrade. When will Mac have the fix for this?

The error that I am getting is this "Time Machine can't use the disk image because it can't be written to."  Any ideas on the fix for this?  When I go to the Time Capsule my Macbook Pro shows that it is locked, I think I did something wrong, but can't figure how to unlock it to see if that fixes it.

As far as we know, Time Machine cannot write to a disk image. It needs to write directly to the Time Capsule disk.
