OK This might be a dumb question....

I know that Appleworks is not going to be updated. I even have a copy of Pages already. My questions is this; I keep getting this:
Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x0000000017874000
Crashed Thread: 0
When I open Appleworks anymore. It started doing this not long after I updated to 6.9. I know that Pages does almost everything Appleworks does. Except that which I use Appleworks for, drawing! I do have Graphic Converter but I do not like it as well as I like Appleworks.
My husband tried today to give me a copy of Appleworks but even that gave me the above error when I went to report it after it failed. It gets to Starting Points and crashes. I'm ready to take the copy from my old laptop and see if that one works on this one. Any ideas that might help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Is that from a crash report? I don't read crash reports, so I don't know what it means. But, since this happened after you updated to AppleWorks 6.2.9, it may only need some simple "housekeeping." Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.

• This might be a dumb question. But when...

I back up my HD is it backing up my applications like all my Adobe software or any games or anything in my applications folder? What exactly is being backed up I guess is my question? Thanks

This depends on the backup program. My software, SuperDuper, makes a complete clone of the hard disk, and other software does, as well. Time Machine backs up your drive, as well as documents you draft and update. Other software only backs up critical documents. It depends on what you want to back up.
It makes sense to back up the whole drive, since that includes updates and miscellaneous files that are on your hard drive. For example, on my SuperDuper backup, every file on my HD is duplicated on my backup. Of course, that means that you must have a backup drive of sufficient size

Or does his Ipod ID change to my ID?
Or does it work without any problems, to setup two IDs on the same computer??

This might be a simple question. On those sites that do not differentiate between CRT, laptop, tablet etc. such as an iPad Mini and using the Facebook site fir example when going to post a comment and you do not have a enter button on the IPad and the speed is slow how do you get your comments to post if we do not have a enter button?

Hi droidboy52999,
Your email won't have the same confirmation number as it was ordered over the phone. You will need the last name used for the order, the location code (this ends in 01) and an order number (five to six digit number). Please keep us posted if you need further assistance with this.

• This is probably a dumb question, but I can't find an answer. How do I make the text on my calendar larger so I can actually read it when I print it out?

This is probably a dumb question, but I can't find an answer. How do I make the text on my calendar larger so I can actually read it when I print it out? I am using a MacBook.

Press "Command P" and when the Print dialogue box comes up, towards the bottom there is an option allowing you to choose the text size, i.e: small, med, large.
Hope this helps,

Hi Winterwilly,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below answers your question of how to use QuickTime to record something on your MacBook Pro’s screen.

• This maybe a really dumb question...

I know this maybe a really dumb question but I do need to ask:
-Do I need to buy a new vista to install on my new mac?
(I have a start up one that was included with my previous pc laptop..)
-In terms of partitioning, how should I distribute space?
Thank you in advance.

jlee636:
The Boot Camp installation guide is [HERE|http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp>. It should be able to answer questions related to installation. Of course these discussions have several other information on boot camp/ windows. All you need to do is launch a search on them.
-In terms of partitioning, how should I distribute space?
Too many people make a partition very small and then regret having done so. My recommendation is to have a partition of at least 32GB. It is highly dependent on what your will be installing on Windows XP/Vista.
-Do I need to buy a new vista to install on my new mac?(I have a start up one that was included with my previous pc laptop..)
It is more than likely that the Windows disk that came with your previous PC/Laptop is an OEM disk and will only work properly with that particular PC. This is generally the case with Dell, HP, Sony etc. The installation disk in the cases above are usually branded.
For more information on which Windows version(s) work with Boot Camp then please click [HERE|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/11889.html].

• Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

• New to Mac and Safari, this may be a dumb question.

Hi guys. I just picked up a macbook yesterday and am coming from a pc. I just wanted to know if it is possible to make the safari window take up the whole screen. It seems by default to only take up a portion of it, and it makes viewing some pages difficult. How do you enlarge the windows? I can't figure it out on any app.

Hi MacNewbie,
To resize windows on a Mac, you use the bottom right-hand corner of the window. There should be 3 lines like '///' there to indicate it is re-sizable.
You can also click the green button in the title bar. This is a bit like the Zoom button in Windows - there difference is that it will maximise the window to the largest size needed to display the information, which may be smaller than fullscreen.
Hope you're enjoying the MacBook and feel free to ask any more questions.

• This is such a dumb question - excuse me....

Sorry, but I have really been scratching my head over this and have actually run it past the tech guys at work and they aren't clear either.
I am getting some new mac stuff as payment for some illustration work. I've gone for a new iMac, with Leopard of course, and I want to go wireless. I am also going to ask for an airport extreme.
So, I have a 'box' installed (technical aren't I!!) by Scarlet - a Belgian ISP - which plugs into the phone line. Into that needs to go an ethernet router and my land line. The phone calls will be made over the internet (I thiiink - they certainly go through the 'box).
Question, the airport extreme is an ethernet router, right? So I plug that physically into the box provided by the ISP - which is connected to a phone socket - and, once all is configured (anyone out there live in Brussels and fancy earning a few quid/euros???), the iMac and my old PB should be fine? So what is the airport express?
There's a 'card' in the computer, airport extreme, airport express, modems and this 'box' thing from Scarlet. I'm beginning to panic gently.
Am I bying the right thing if I buy airport extreme? Is that all I need to get going? Thanks and sorry such a newbie question. Just don't want to get the wrong thing.

Question, the airport extreme is an ethernet router, right?
The AirPort Extreme Base Station is a wireless Internet router with a built-in Ethernet switch.
So I plug that physically into the box provided by the ISP - which is connected to a phone socket - and, once all is configured (anyone out there live in Brussels and fancy earning a few quid/euros???), the iMac and my old PB should be fine?
Sounds like this "box" provided by your ISP is a ADSL modem, and if so, then yes this should work with the base station and have it provide Internet access to both the iMac and PowerBook.
So what is the airport express?
The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is another wireless Internet router manufactured by Apple. It's primary difference with the AirPort Extreme is that it allows streaming iTunes to your speakers/stereo ... and it is much more portable.
There's a 'card' in the computer, airport extreme, airport express, modems and this 'box' thing from Scarlet. I'm beginning to panic gently.
Not to worry. Apple doesn't help when it came to naming conventions ... as AirPort is used for both their routers and their wireless adapters, like the one built into the iMac. (which is called an AirPort Extreme Card). Take a look at the following Apple article to help "see" the differences: Identifying AirPort hardware
Am I bying the right thing if I buy airport extreme? Is that all I need to get going? Thanks and sorry such a newbie question. Just don't want to get the wrong thing.
From your network description, the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) sounds like it would be the best Apple router option.

• Might be a dumb question

hi,
I was wondering what is the difference between downloading the zip files (and installing it), or purchasing the Oracle Database Standard Edition ($5000) from the Oracle store?? Is it just a trial version??
Again, sorry if this is an ignorant question. :)

The best think to do would be small talk with Oracle salesman  There are different types of license you can buy. If you choose Named User you have to buy a license for every user, if you choose per Processor license you buy a license for each processor and you can connect as many users as you want.
