OK - - this one's weird... sporadic missing text

I'm in a school network environment.
On the server, I was doing some manipulations with user home folders, and as part of this, manually cleared the trash and caches folders on all user accounts.
NOW, some (only some, and with no consistency I can see) accounts, when they launch safari (or firefox, in two instances, but not others) see webpages with hugh chunks of the text missing.
It's not always all the text. But usually 'most' of the text is missing. Plain text sites work OK. Pages or areas with fancy scripts or formatting don't show up. Images show fine.
resetting safari does not help. trashing and reinstalling does not help. A clean install of firefox fixed those two issues, but not the safari ones.
The local admin account, DOES NOT have this problem. So the applications, I guess, are fine...?
WHAT was in those folders (trash, cashes) that would cause this kind of behaviour?

IE 9 missing text

Hi,
I am on the new 4.0, but I have always had this problem. I am missing text when viewing the site in IE9 (it always comes up in "Compatibility View"). In the image below, Firefox is on the left, and IE 9 is on the right.
I am using normal text and am not doing anything weird. It is Helvetica, and then has a rectangle with fill behind the text.
I have always had this problem, and have seen it also on Menus and Accordians. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks!

I figured it out, but still need your help. This is a weird bug that has to do with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.
IF you have Helvetica installed on your PC, and are using IE 9 or 10, then websites with Helvetica will not display properly.
IF you do NOT have Helvetica installed on your PC, then everything displays perfectly in IE 9 & 10.
So since I can't tell customers to uninstall Helvetica from their computers to view my site, I have 2 options:
1) Don't use Helvetica, or
2) Is there a solution I can use with Muse? Apparently it has to do with listing Helvetica in a CSS file: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/ie9-is-showing-some-pages-as-bla nk/6a13fab2-0e7d-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5

The latest .key I created is huge, .... Finder shows it as 5GB. Other .key of similar slide total are about 300-500MB. There is nothing different about this one. It is just .jpg files (photos) and text. No movies, no audio. Why so big??

iMac. 2.4GHz. Core 2 Duo. 2GB SDRAM. OS - 10.9.5.   Keynote - 6.2.2 v.1878.
I just completed a keynote slide show. The Finder indicates it is 5.25GB. It is 200 slides, no movies, no audio of any kind, no special transitions. It is just photos and some added text explanations. The individual photos are each 5-6MB, with about 190 photos total. I have other previous .key's about the size in terms of the number of photos and they are showing in the Finder as taking up 300-500MB. There is nothing different with this one particular presentation. I usually organize and store my photos using .key after a trip. Photos are downloaded into iPhoto (7.1.5) and then I build a keynote presentation by copying the photos as .jpg's out of iPhoto and into Keynote, with text as notes on or under each photo. Something changed with the latest keynote in terms of file size. But I can't determined why it required 5.25GB of disc space while other .key's of the approximate same size and content are only taking 10% of that amount. Anyone have an idea what is going on with keynote is this particular instance??? I know I could compress it, but I want to understand why the last time I used keynote the file size was so huge. Some additional information. In looking at the package contents info, under the DATA Folder there are several entries for each slide/photo in the .key presentation. There is a long list of contents that shows each image as:
    pasted-image-1234.png
and a second list right below that identifies each image again in the .key as:
    pasted-image-small-1234.png
Both of these lists show image files of 15-25MB for each photo, even though the original .jpg photo was 4-6MB. They list/show all of the images in the .key, but DO NOT show the added text. So it appears the package contents indicates two separate .png files for each photo in the .key, but the file size for each is 3-5 times greater than the original .jpg that was copy/pasted from iPhoto. And for some reason there are two copies of each.
There is also a list for the two following image/data files:
    pasted-image-small-small-1234.png
    st12-1234.png
Both of these lists show a file size of 100-200KB for each image, and again show all of the images in the.key.
Only the st-xx-xxxx.png list of images also show the added text.
Again it appears when I created the Keynote presentation by copy/paste images from iPhoto, Keynote stored multiple copies of each image as .png file several times larger than the original .jpg.   The completed Keynote slide show is so large is almost impossible to work with. The system is so slow that routine commands are not completed, e.g., trying to "save as" into a .pdf never finishes and I have to "force quit".
Still trying to determine why this occurred with the 6.2.2 version. Any chance I can delete all but the st-xx-xxxx image list and get back to a normal file size??

Yes, you're safe to continue. That means that there are text boxes that you did not put any text into and they contain the holding text which will not be printed. That text is shown in a light grayt and is in Latin. Normally you can just put a space in the text box to replace the holding text so as not to get that warning message.
Before ordering the book proof the book according to this Apple document: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture. Check the pdf file for any missing text or photos and any warning indicators in the text boxes indicating that some of the text has exceeded the space allotted in the text box.
Keep the pdf file to compare with the printed copy when you reciive it.

Msg 2114 error when i try to text this one person with my iPhone 4S???

I seem to have an issue when i try to text this one person.....
They do NOT recieve my texts.....but i can recieve theirs.
I get a message after i send them a text from 923-0 that says i used the invalid number of digits.....MSG 2114
Tried deleting the contact , resending just using the number hand typed in...and still does not work!

Finally Worked! Remove all instances of the contact name and number used in previous messages, phone calls, recents, etc. Shut down sms, mms, imessage, etc in settings. Restart phone. Go back to settings and restart sms, mms, imessage. Send a text without creating the contact first, just enter the 10 digit cell number and send text. Worked for my iphone 4s texting to 1 person's android I couldn't send before. That 1 person was a previous contact that had only 7 digits entered for the phone number. Now I added that contact back to the list and sending text still works. Contact phone number now shows up as +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx . Thanks wjosten.

We've tried reactivating iMessage, deleting threads, and contacts but nothing seems to work. Has this happened to anyone else?

Restart both devices (press the HOME and power button until the Apple logo appears then releasae). If both devices have iMessage turned on and to send as SMS when iMessage is not available, the the green messages are indicative of iMessage not being available on one or both devices.

Hi all
I am having problems with one particular web site AccuWeather.com. It will load and display fine for a while and then it will suddenly start displaying in plain text only without any HTML formatting at all. I have no trouble with any other web sites they all load and display fine. The only way I can get Safari to display AccuWeather properly again is to Restart my Mac. I have tried all the usual, i.e. emptied the cache and reset Safari. I'm using Safari 3.1.1 on Tiger 10.4.11.
Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received as this one is really annoying me. I use AccuWeather quite a lot!

In fact one of their downloadable options is 'Weather for my Apple Dashboard', so we can't accuse them of being Apple-unfriendly!
The site contains a lot of Java as well as Flash videos. Do you have all the following installed?

In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-003. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:

Missing text in many programs - Rox, Thunar, Deluge, etc [SOLVED]

I'm having a very confusing problem. Basically, text is just missing from certain programs. Here are a few quick examples:

Deluge:
It's very strange. First of all, this just started happening recently, and I don't think after an update or anything. But I know "it just randomly started happening" is a dumb thing to say.
Here is the info I think could be useful:
-I have the ttf-freefont package and the xorg-font family of packages
-I have updated and restarted since this happened; nothing has changed
-The filenames look perfect if I just list them in the terminal (no newlines or anything)
-The filenames that have disappeared aren't anything special, it's seemingly random (no weird characters in them)
-The icons are totally fine
-All the things with missing text are still totally functional if I use them
-I thought this was a file manager issue, but it happening in Deluge too, so nope
-I downloaded and tried Nautilus, same deal, but some files had random words from their name appear. Just as bad basically though
-I also downloaded and tried Midnight Commander (a text based file manager) and everything is perfectly fine in it
Any suggestions? This is very mysterious, and driving me nuts.

Edit: To clarify, in the Thunar and Rox pictures I just took screenshots of a small portion of a folder. In the Deluge pictures, in the first one those 3 blank looking buttons in that menu should have more words (like "Remove Torrent"), and in the second one, those + and - buttons should also have text.

Cairo 1.12 was just moved into [extra], so chances are this bug will reappear the next time you -Syu. If you're running Nouveau drivers, then the underlying cause of your issue might be this bug:

If this is indeed your issue, then you need to install the xf86-video-nouveau-0.0.16_git20120512-1 package from [testing]. If you re-enable [testing] and do an -Syu, it should automatically install this package.

Missing text in RoboHelp 7 when previewing/generating Frame files

This is a new issue for me. Until last week, it seemed to work fine. Now, though, whenever I import by reference my frame files I have noticed that, while they look fine in the Design view, when I click Preview it has missing text in parts. In one file, which was all text (no graphics), it was completely in Preview. Then, when I generated the help, that topic was still blank.
This doesn't always happen, though. Sometimes a topic is fine up to a point, then, all the text is gone, leaving only the screenshots. It generates that way also. On the other hand, some files come out fine, with no missing text. (This is only apparent in the Preview and generated help.)
I'm using TCS 1, that has RoboHelp 7, and I generate to WebHelp. I've applied an update that makes it 7.01.001. I've also applied the "missing space" fix that Peter Grainge suggested (it worked ).
Like I said, TCS worked fine up to last week, then I started seeing these missing chunks of text. I tried creating a new RH project and starting all over, importing only one small file that had all text and no screenshots/graphics. Both the preview and generated help came out blank, although I could see it plainly in the Design view before generating.
Has anyone else had this issue, or know what it might be?

That is, it showed nothing when I opened it in IE9, but in Firefox it displayed just fine. I tried replacing <head> with the one above (in the output), but it didn't seem to do anything. I'll keep trying, though!

Missing text after EXPORT from PMD to PDF

Hi,
I have a document, designed through Adobe pagemaker 70, which I would like converted to PDF. Within Adobe PageMaker 70 I performed a File-->Export-->Adobe PDF, kept all the default options and managed to generate a PDF version of the *.PMD document. However, some of the text in the PDF document is missing. I searched on the internet and discovered one can do Document-->Examine Document within Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to display any hidden text. Doing this I was able to see the missing text.
There is an image in the source Pagemaker document, but the image is not square but cropped along it's outside edge and the text flows around the edge (hope that makes sense). What's puzzling is that in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the generate PDF has the image displayed in a box and some (not all) the text behind this box is shown as hidden, where as in the source document all text flowing around the image is visible.
Can anyone please help with this problem and tell me how I can get the hidden text in my PDF document to display so it's visible in an Acrobat Reader or when printed?... I am still a bit of a newbie with both Pagemaker and Acrobat so your help would be much appreciated.

Random missing text in brochure

I am new to this discussion board but am so happy to have found it.
I am working in XI. I have two brochures that are missing some text on a few page and is fine on all others. The brochures were created in InDesign. I have opened one of the updated bochures from last year and it is fine. It is also fine when I view from Acrobat. Any suggestions on what the issue is or how to fix?

No missing text in Safe Mode.
First time unchecking hardware acceleration fixed it. I decided to check if it was really that by checking it again and seeing if it disappeared again. It did. Then when I tried to uncheck it again, the text was still missing and I couldn't fix it again. But after some back and forth of switching from safe mode to normal and vice versa with the hardware acceleration unchecked, the text reappeared again. So I decided to leave it since its fixed for now. Thank you so much for your help.

Missing text in Firefox, Thunderbird, and Libreoffice

On my laptop, when I run Firefox, Thunderbird, or Libreoffice maximized, everything in the top part of the window is fine. But, there is a line about 2/3 of the way down the window below which there most of the text is gone. (this line may even be halfway throught a line of text, such that the top part of the word is displayed, but the bottom part is not.)
Examples of missing text (all below the line):
In all cases, the text on status bars (like those at the bottom of the window) is gone, however, loading bars are still there.
In firefox, images will be there, underlines for links will be there, but the text will not.
In Thunderbird, the message view is fine, but all of the system status bars, including but not limited to message info and the notifications, such as "this might be a scam" or "Do you want to load the images?" are not. I do not know whether the message entries in the inbox are there because that is always above the line.
In libreoffice, all text, including the actual document text, status bars, and the entries on the start screen (create new text document, create new spreadsheet, etc.) are affected.
However, if I run libreoffice or firefox via Xforwarding over an ssh tunnel from my desktop, everything works fine, subject of course to network latency. (I do not have Thunderbird on my desktop, I use claws instead, which also does work fine.)
Also, if I shrink the window to half-height, then the problem no longer exists.
I have tried reinstalling libreoffice, firefox, thunderbird, the xserver, and my graphics drivers (nouveau) using the --recursive option, and nothing has changed. I cannot tie this problem to any particular system operation (such as an update), but that does not mean that it is unrelated to such an event.
Window manager: xmonad
Desktop environment: none
Video driver: nouveau
Model: Dell Inspiron 8600
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am tired of only using the bottom half of my screen.

Missing Text in Spotlight and ITunes

I have an eMac G4 with 10.5.1.
Spotlight piles results atop one another at the bottom of the drop-down window (using the menu bar) and cuts off the "Spot" part of spotlight.
Additionally, there is no text in the iTunes store OR any license agreement windows that pop up during installs.
This is too weird. I can't recreate it on any other machine.

Windows XP - Missing text when printing to Xerox Docucolor

Currently printing Illustrator CS3 from a Windows XP to a CREO driver running a Xerox Ducucolor 240.
Sent a document and discovered some of the text was missing. It was a label set up 2-up on the page and the missing text occurred in the upper label, but was not missing on the lower label.
I went back to see if I had not duplicated all of the label and discovered that the document was complete.
Without changing the document, I sent it again. This time it printed correctly.
What could make the document lose some of the content?

Something likely happened during the transmission of the job to the printer. It could be a fluke but if it happens again, you should check all your connections, condition of your wires and cables, and your power protection.
Could also have been a blip with Illy and/or whatever other apps you had running at the same time; a slight conflict somewhere occurring at the exact wrong nanosecond.
ETA:
In other cases (though not in this one), it could be a font issue. Corrupt font, duplicate font on your system or with the printer. It could also be an issue with the Illy file itself; not exactly a bad idea to copy everything and place it in a new file.
