Ok to move LR 2 presets and settings from old Mac PowerPC into my Mac Pro and LR4?

I had a Mac PowerPC but recently purchased a Mac Pro.  While I was at it I got Lightroom 4.  Now I want to migrate the Settings and Plugins folders from my LR 2, which is on the Mac PowerPC, to my LR 4, which is on the Mac Pro.  Is that going to cause a problem?

Hi.
...My question is: Can I use the hard drives and RAM chips from the older Mac Pro in a new Mac Pro? I have a lot of money tied up in the additional HDs and RAM chips and I hope I can save money if they are compatible with a new "very basic" Mac Pro...
While your HDDs are reusable as Kappy said, be aware that the sleds they are in are not. The new Mac Pros use a different sled design so you'd need to take the drives off the old sleds and install them on the new sleds before you can install them in a new Mac Pro.
Also, you can get some good deals on the RAM you'll need here http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1333-memory.

  • Transferring settings from old Mac o new iMac

Hi! I just placed an order for a new iMac on the Apple store. Currently I sync my iPhone, iPad and iPods with my PowerBook G4. Once the new Mac arrives I plan to sync my iOS devices with it, I understand that there is a migration or setup assistant that will transfer all my settings from the old Mac to the new one.
Are there any tips or special precautions I must take? Should I use a USB cable, Firewire or use wi-fi?
    Thanks,
    Cesar

You can use an ethernet cable, a FireWire cable if your laptop has a FireWire port or a wireless network. In your case the ethernet is probably the easiest because even if your laptop has FW it is likely to be FW400 and the new iMac has FW800, so you would need an adapter or adapting cable.
You may wish to read up on the precautions for going from PowerPC to Intel Macs.

  • How do you move Compressor 3.05 settings from one Mac to another?

How do you move settings from one Mac to another?
I have Compressor 3.05 installed on two Intel Macs: a MacPro tower and a MacBook Aluminum. I created a new setting on the MacBook, and can see it in Library -> App Support -> Compressor as "<name>.setting" Then I moved to the Mac Pro for speed and created a few more settings. I copied these settings from the Mac Pro libary and put them in the MacBook library; restarted Compressor on the MacBook but still cannot see those presets from within Compressor. I hate to re-create all those settings, but I do move between both computers depending on what I am doing.
    What am I missing? Thanks.

    To copy single settings.
    1. Drag & Drop your setting from the Compressor Settings window to i.e. the desktop
    2. Copy .setting file to an other Mac
    3. Drag & Drop the .setting file(s) over to the Settings window in Compressor
    To copy settings groups (folders)
    1. Go to */Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Compressor*
    2. Copy the settings group folder you want to your i.e. the desktop
    3. Make sure Compressor is not open on the other Mac
    4. Copy the settings group folder to the same location on the other Mac
    5. Open Compressor
    Hope this helps

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • I bought a used iphone 4 today. how to transfer all my old and important data including apps and email settings from old iphone 3gs to the used iphone 4?

i bought a used iphone 4 today. how to transfer all my old and important data including apps and email settings from old iphone 3gs to the used iphone 4? that means, making the iphone 4 just like the iphone 3gs?

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect)  On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

I rented a movie on my Apple TV and now I also want to watch the movie on my Mac.  How do I access the rented movie without having to rent again from the Mac?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you rent a movie on the Apple TV, then it can only be watched on the Apple TV. If you want to watch movies on multiple devices, you need to download it to your computer, where you can then transfer it to other devices or stream it to your Apple TV as well as watch it from your Mac.

No, it will not affect the iPhone 6 content if you wipe the old iPhone 4s.

  • How can I migrate my junk-mail settings from one Mac to another?

I would like to move my junk mail settings from one Mac to another. I found this article (https://kb.siteground.com/how_to_synchronize_the_junk_email_settings_in_mac_mail /), but can't locate the file indicated in the article, so I suspect that the article is out of date (though it's not dated).
    Both machines - MacOS 10.9.5; Mail 7.3.
    Any insights much appreciated!

Make your user library visible and see if you can find it.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library.

  • How to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another (both OSX)?

Hello, I have not found a detailed description on how to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another.
My issue is that I have a Mac G5 with 3 different settings saved as "presets" for the same printer. This works great, since the posters I print (on the large format printer) need different margins and different paper at times.
This G5 is basically retired and only used for printing. G5 has OSX 10.3.9
I have a MacPro as its replacement (OSX 10.4.11).
The MacPro has all my apps and other settings setup to my liking.
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
If someone would list the steps needed to accomplish the transfer of printer settings or advise if this is possible, then I would be very grateful! The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
    Thanks!

Hi SCChelpdesk, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
This is the File that holds that info on Tiger, not certain on Panther...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
After moving, you very well might have to change the Owner's Permissions within Get Info window, then log out/in.
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
MA would transfer the info, but/and, if the user that had that info had the same Shortname as on the new one, it'll demand you give it a new Shortname to use... but then those settings would be transferred to that new user on the new machine. I think the 1st one will work though.
The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
We can go through that way if you like... not all that hard.

  • Can i copy my settings from one mac to another?

    Hi
Since I had a problem with my Mac's drive that suddenly failed (I am able to read ONLY), I replaced the internal HD with my emergency HD that I had backedup a few months before. I would like to know if there's a way to copy my settings from one mac to another? Is there a specific folder for all apps or do I have to find out each and every single file for each app?
    I need the settings for
    System (view, font, color,)
    Finder (view, etc)
iTunes (that include all library, playlists, etc),
    Firefox (Bookmarks, settings & plug-ins),
    Safari (Bookmarks, settings & plug-ins),
    Address Book (contacts)
Thuderbird (emails accounts, contacts, passwords, etc)
Stickies (stickies on the dock - i have info on there unsaved)
    Filezilla (FTP infos)
    Would appreciate.
    Thnx.

All that info is found in your user/library folder, I just did a 60 machine rollout and copied all those settings from user/library, just be forewarned that if you upgrade software those setting will not take on the machine, for example Adobe CS 3,4 will not usable by CS5.  let us know if you need more help.  Also make sure you copy most of your preferences in the user/library/prefences folder.
Note: If you are using an identical backup with all apps and user settings, you can just copy all folders from user to your new home folder.  Remember that only if the image or backup is identical to your production OS.

  • Using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook

When using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro, that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook, will emails, contacts and calendar entries be moved to Outlook on the new MacBook or into Mail, Contacts and Calendar?

I doubt they will. But then I'm not sure as I used a migration program once about 18 years ago and totally FUBARed the system I had at that time and I've never used one again.
For me the reason to have a new system is to start fresh. Installing only program that I now use and manually copying data over from the older system.
Not sure your older version of Outlook, and the outlook mail boxes, are compatible with Office/Outlook for Mac 2011.
A better place to ask this question would be on the MS Office for Mac forums.
Hope it all works out for you.

  • I would like to copy my iPhoto (9.4.1) library from my Mac Pro (10.7.5) to a Macbook Pro (10.7.5). Can I drag the iPhoto Library to Air Drop and send them to the MacBook? Will that then be a usable iPhoto library on the Macbook?

I would like to copy my iPhoto (9.4.1) library from my Mac Pro (10.7.5) to a Macbook Pro (10.7.5). Can I drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder to Air Drop and send them to the MacBook? If I then move that to the Pictures folder on the MacBook will that then be a usable iPhoto library on the Macbook?

It would be better if you could connect the two Macs via a hard wired LAN to copy the library from the Mac Pro to the MacBook.  Wireless connections can have momentary dropouts which could affect the reliable copying of files.
If you do go with Air Drop be sure to open and inspect the copied library closely to confirm it was a successulf copy.

  • Migrating iTunes library from old mac to new, and library is on external HD

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to point my newly set up iTunes to my old iTunes library file located on my external HD. It wants to build a new one.
I have a new iMac 5K I just got Friday. I have an old Mac Pro 2007 running 10.7.5 (the latest software I could update to due to hardware restrictions.)
Unfortunately, I can't do a straight up Migrate from the old one to the new one, due to the difference in OS. I got most of the iMac set up, but am having some issues with iTunes. My entire iTunes library is on an external HD, and it has been for quite some time. In preferences under advanced, I had my iTunes Media folder location set to the folder that was on the HD.
So when setting up my new iMac, I set the same preference in the new iTunes, so it has access to all of my music, but I don't remember how to point the new iTunes to that "iTunes Library" file so that all of my playlists and settings are in there. Intead iTunes keeps building a folder and library file on my Music folder that's on my iMac.

A library is everything in an iTunes folder, not just media.  In particular, iTunes is looking for a file called iTunes Library.itl.
You do not tell iTunes to use media by pointing to it in preferences.  You tell iTunes to use a library file which itself knows where the media are kept.  You tell iTunes which library file to use by holding down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and pointing it to the correct library file.  If this file was on the external drive in a complete iTunes folder there then all you have to do is point it to that folder on the external.  If you didn't really have your entire library on the external drive but only had the media files there then you need to copy the iTunes folder on the old internal drive to the exact same location on the new computer and start iTunes.

  • How to move photoshop from old mac to new mac?

how to move photoshop from old mac book air to new mac book pro retina display (no disc drive)?

It can be possible to use the Migration Assistant, but you must take into account that any recent Photoshop requires activation with a server account, like Apple iTunes does for purchases. To avoid potential problems, you want to make sure that you deactivate any software (like iTunes or Photoshop) that you have installed from any company that requires activation, and then reactivate them after you migrate. Otherwise it is possible that any software you activated might stop working if it notices that the underlying hardware has changed.
Also, you only get 2 activations of Photoshop and 5 of iTunes, so you don't want to lose any because you forgot to deactivate before getting rid of the old Mac.
Migration Assitant is not perfect, so the most reliable way to migrate is to deactivate Photoshop before migrating and then run a clean installation of it after migration using your original media and serial number.

  • How to restore factoy settings on my mac pro desktop

Does anyone know how to restore factory settings on a mac pro desktop?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To restore the Mac Pro to factory settings:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD that came with your Mac, and press the C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X, so it will be installed using default settings
This will erase everything, so make a backup of your data before
