Okay, I Give Up!

I have been trying to find an answer and I can't! Please help!
I have a 30mb video iPod that still has a bit of charge in it, but it is running low! It will not charge hooked up.
I cannot get it to be recognized on my iMac! The icon will not show up on the desktop!
I have reinstalled iTunes, but I CANNOT get the icon to show!
Please help me! Thanks!

I understand the following may not relate to your iPod, but the ways to solve are quite the same
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
Intermediate Level
A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

Advance Level
A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
http://www.ifixit.com/
Just in case that you are at the following situation
Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
Last Resort Level
1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Okay I give up - wicked slow startup time

I've been reading every post I could find related to slow startup times, and trying every conceivable solution others have thought of and that I could think of, and I'm still plagued by a slow startup time!
Last week it was not a problem. I had just created a 10GB partition and installed Windows XP on it. Things were running smoothly. My startup times weren't like 20 seconds, but they weren't as bad as they are now (a consistent 3.5-4 minutes). Maybe it would take a minute to a minute and a half to start. Then suddenly over the weekend, it started taking 5+ minutes to boot! What could have happened?
I panicked and erased the Windows partition, backed up to Time Machine (suspecting possible disk failure in my future), and started doing every maintenance thing I know to do (fsck-which returned no errors, permissions repair, reset nv-ram and p-ram, OnyX maintenance scripts). This got it back down to where it is now, a consistent 3.5 minutes. That's still much slower than it should be.
Below is everything the Console says immediately after booting. Thanks so much for anything anyone can do to help!

  • Can we trust customer service?

Hopefully someone from VZW can help me, otherwise this will be another complaint against VZW.
When I had purchased a new phone (outside VZW), I had contacted VZW customer service to inquire about waiving my activation/upgrade fee of $30.  When I talked to the rep, I mentioned that I have been a subscriber for well over 10 years and was wondering if they could help.  Well, he said thank you for being a long time customer and said that he can help with that.  At the time, he told me that it shoudl be no problem and that that they also had a promo around Christmas time that it would be waived.  How it was communicated to me was the the fee could waived when I activated.  I had asked the rep to note it my accocunt and call history and he said OK.
Well, not that I get my bill, I saw the $30 charge (along with the taxes and surcharges associated with this $30).  I was called customer service and also talked to a supervisor and they were not able to waive the charge.  Apparently, the first rep I talked to around Christmas time noted it on my account that it would only be waived if I activated by 12/24....it was communicated differently to me.  I activated that phone 12/27.
I'm just very disappointed that there is no other avenue for someone to help, especially since I have been pretty loyal to VZW.  I'm also disappointed that they did away with the email inquiry and support (I used to email them and they would get back to me right away and with very favorable resolution)...there was a time when their support did help me and did take into account my loyalty and all my on-time payments.  I have 5 lines on a family plan and slowly, I am adding data to each line (not all of them have it...yet).
But if this is the model that VZW is heading (or already there), it doesn't make any difference which company to go to.  Just go with the cheapest company, i suppose.  For me, I can afford to since I live in an area that has coverage from the major cell providers.
Verizon, if you can help, feel free to respond to this to see what you can do.  It's not like I am always disputing this or that....just been paying my bills on time.  I have no problem paying for things that I signed up for, but the fact that the customer rep said one thing and "gave the impression" that the fee would be waived, I feel disappointed and not given accurate information.
    Thanks for hearing the rant.

I get what you're saying, and I understand that I will have to pay the fee, but the fact that I called specifically asking if it could be done and was told explicitly that they could waive it.  Also told me that he couldn't waive it unless it was charged already (which I have not activated yet).  Now, you can argue that this isn't part of the contract...but the fact that I called specifically asking about it and the representative told me "yes" and that it shouldn't be a problem.  After he said that, he also checked on promotions and said that they are waived it until the 24th.  I asked him to make sure to document our conversation, which he complied, but I guess he only documented half the conversation.
So I guess what you're saying is that the customer service representatives don't necessarily have to give accurate information?  He had time to find out...I was on hold when he went to ask about it.  This misinformation is a reflection on Verizon as a company.  I suppose that's the problem with customer service these days and with a lot of these large companies.
It never hurts to ask for anything, but if he had said at first that they couldn't do it and it would only be waived during a certain period, I would have activated by then.  But I told him my intent on activating right after Christmas....the rep told me that he documented our conversation and it should not be a problem.
I've had times where my phone inadvertently used data (before data plans became the norm) and a simple call to customer service took care of those charges, which was a "bend" from the contract.
As for entitlements....sometimes it's good to have it.  Do they have to?  Of course not....but could they?  They could to keep business.  I routinely give my business to the companies that have treated me well...even given me perks (hotels, car rental, restaurants, etc).
Contract does not excuse being okay to give out wrong information.

  • Help! ADF default behavior rejected by end users...

    Hi,
We have built an ADF 11g application during the past months. Last week we had our first user acceptance test with a small group of users. The users were very satisfied about the nice looks of the screens. But they had quite a lot of issues with the default behavior of ADF. I'll provide a list of the most important issues below. I hope more people here at OTN have experienced these issues and perhaps have some workarounds. And perhaps Oracle can use lists like this to improve the next version of ADF...
<ol><li>Multi record edit<br>We have a lot of multi record edit screens. These are all editable tables. Those tables have the following problems:
<ol type="a"><li>Whenever a partial refresh occurs, the whole table gets reloaded. This takes some time, which is uncomfortable. But the main problem here is that the table does not preserve the scroll bar position. The situation can be improved a little bit by setting the <tt>displayRow</tt> attribute to <tt>"selected"</tt> on the table. This will cause the table to show the selected record at the top of the view port after a refresh. But this still confuses the end users. In their experience the records are randomly jumping around.</li>
<li>Records are not always inserted at the bottom. (In fact, they are inserted above the selected record.) End users simply expect records to be inserted at the bottom of the table, no matter what. And I can't disagree with them. Isn't there a setting to achieve this in ADF?</li>
<li>Whenever the user navigates to another record in the editable table, all validation rules on the record he navigates from are fired. That means he cannot leave a required field empty to fill it later. The end users say this is very annoying. We would like to delay all validation until the user presses the Commit button. But as far as I know this is not possible, is it?</li>
<li>The selected record position is not preserved on a full refresh. Our Commit button forces a full refresh of the page. This sounds like a sensible choice to me. However, users tend to click on Commit quite often. But after a full refresh of the page, the currently selected record in a record set is always reset to the first record in the set. In a large data table, this annoys the users very much. Isn't it possible to preserve the selected record over a full refresh?</ol>
<li>Annoying validation errors<br>Many end users are annoyed by the somewhat "persistent" validation error messages. In a larger form or an editable table, users sometimes want to ignore an error and first enter other data, before correcting the error. This is hardly possible, because ADF sets the input focus to fields with errors and keeps popping up windows with a list of fields that have errors. We would like to make the validation less "aggressive". It is okay to give a field a red border if it contains an error. But leave the input focus where it is. And don't show any popup until the user presses the Commit button. And even then show the popup window only once.</li>
<li>ADF BC caching and business rules in the database<br>We have some business rules in our database that automatically fill some fields with default values. We have e.g. a master-details relation, where a value in the master record is calculated based on the values of the detail records. We have set the calculated field in the master record to "refresh after update" and "refresh after insert". Sometimes the value of the field gets refreshed, but sometimes not. Users know that the field should be calculated by "the system", and are asking if they did something wrong if it doesn't. I know we could do the calculation in ADF, but our policy is to have all business rules in the database and to not repeat ourselves (DRY). Is there another way to guarantee that the calculated value in the master record gets updated after an update or insert of one or more detail records?</li>
<li>Partial refresh loses data<br>If a field causes a partial submit to occur, fields in the same record that were not (partial) submitted before lose their data. This forces us to enable partial submit on all fields. But that causes a delay after moving the focus to the next field and validations to be fired too early.</li>
    </ol>
I've numbered the items above, please use these number as a reference if you're posting an answer to a specific question.
Please let me know any solution, even if it is only a partial solution. We've a nasty situation now. Our application is (nearly) finished, but it is blocked for production by the users because of the behavior of the ADF framework, on which we have very little influence. We can't blame the users for that, most of their criticism is fully justified. So we have to come up with a good solution for these issues before we can go to production. So any help would be highly appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Bart Kummel
    PS.
We're using JDeveloper/ADF 11.1.1.1.0, we deploy to a WebLogic 10.3.1 server and we have an Oracle 10g database. We're using the full ADF stack: ADF Business Components, ADF Bindings and ADF Faces.

    Hi Bart,
I can answer for few of your questions.
    Bart Kummel wrote:
    Hi,
We have built an ADF 11g application during the past months.
In their experience the records are randomly jumping around.</li>You can set the fetchSize in the iterator to a minimum value (Say if you are displaying 20 records in the table at a time, you can set the fetchSize to 20, so that, it will fetch only 20 records at a time, and the remaining records on demand basis, i.e they will be fetched when you scroll in the table).
<li>Records are not always inserted at the bottom. (In fact, they are inserted above the selected record.) End users simply expect records to be inserted at the bottom of the table, no matter what. And I can't disagree with them. Isn't there a setting to achieve this in ADF?</li>I suppose you are using the default createInsert operation. You can write your own method instead of the default createInsert, which would have something like
    public void customCreateInsert(){
    vo.last();
    vo.createInsert();
}You can expose this method as method action and use it in place of default CreateInsert.
<li>Whenever the user navigates to another record in the editable table, all validation rules on the record he navigates from are fired. That means he cannot leave a required field empty to fill it later. The end users say this is very annoying. We would like to delay all validation until the user presses the Commit button. But as far as I know this is not possible, is it?</li>You can set the immediate property to true for the column for which you want to skip the validation. However, the validation will fire when you submit / commit the changes (which is expected).
Isn't it possible to preserve the selected record over a full refresh?</ol>Again, you can have a custom method, which would get the current row, commit the transaction and do a setCurrentRowWithKey to point to the last selected record after commit.
And even then show the popup window only once.</li>You can add a af:messages tag in the top and set globalOnly to true. Also, set the immediate property for the items to skip the validation when they tab out.
Is there another way to guarantee that the calculated value in the master record gets updated after an update or insert of one or more detail records?</li>We need some more information. Do you see any "pattern" on which this things occur?

  • IP routing utilizing Verizon private network (GRE tunnel) with remote cellular gateways

Okay, I give up, and think I have done my due diligence (I have been engrossed and fascinated spending many more hours than allotted to try and learn some of the finer details).  Time for some advice.  My usual trade is controls engineering which generally require only basic knowledge of networking principals.  However I recently took a job to integrate 100 or so lift stations scattered around a county into a central SCADA system.  I decided to use cellular technology to connect these remote sites back to the main SCADA system.  Well the infrastructure is now in and it’s time to get these things talking.  Basic topology description is as follows:  Each remote site has an Airlink LS300 gateway.  Attached to the gateway via Ethernet is a system controller that I will be polling via Modbus TCP from the main SCADA system.  The Airlinks are provisioned by Verizon utilizing a private network with static IP's.  This private networks address is 192.168.1.0/24.  Back at the central office the SCADA computer is sitting behind a Cisco 2911.  The LAN address of the central office is 192.168.11.0/24.  The 2911 is utilizing GRE tunnels that terminate with Verizon.  The original turn up was done with another contractor that did a basic config of the router which you will find below.  As it stands now I am pretty confident the tunnels are up and working (if I change a local computers subnet to 255.255.0.0 I can surprisingly reach the airlinks in the field), but this is obviously not the right way to solve the problem, not to mention I was unable to successfully poll the end devices on the other side of the Airlinks.  I think I understand just about every part of the config below and think it is just missing a few items to be complete.  I would greatly appreciate anyone’s help in getting this set up correctly.  I also have a few questions about the set up that still don’t make sense to me, you will find them below the config.  Thanks in advance.

So after spending countless hours analyzing every portion of this,  I think that adding one line to this will get it going (or at least closer).
    ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.0.0 22.20.19.19
That should allow my internal LAN to reach the Airlink gateways on the other side of the tunnel (I think)
Now for a couple of questions for those that are still actually hanging around.
#1 what is the purpose of the Ethernet address assigned to each tunnel?  I only see them being used in the BGP section where they are receiving routing tables from the Verizon side (is that correct?).  Why wouldn't or couldn't you just use the physical Ethernet address interface in its place (in the BGP section)?
#2 is the config above correct in pointing the default route to the physical Ethernet address?  Does that force the packets into the tunnel, or shouldn’t you be pointing it towards the tunnel IP's (172.16.200.2)?  If the config above is correct then I should not need to add the route I described above as if I ping out to 192.168.1.X that should catch it and force it into the tunnel where Verizon would pick it up and know how to get it to its destination??
#3 Will I need to add another permit to the VZW_VPN for TCP as in the end I need to be able to poll via Modbus which uses port 502 TCP.  Or is TCP implicit in some way with the GRE permit?
I actually have alot more questions, but I will keep reading for now.
I really appreciate the time you all took to trudge through this.  Also please feel free to point anything else out that I may have missed or that can be improved.  Have a great day!

  • Nstalling Windows Home Server 2011 on a ProLiant ML350e Gen 8 Server (Nothing appearing in Operating System Selection During Install)

We just purchased Windows Home Server software that required a new server to be purchased. We went with the ProLiant350e Gen8 Server. IUpon starting up the new ProLiant server I booted from CD-Rom and got to the Windows Install program. I clicked  "Install
A New Server" However, as soon as this page loads it gives me an error that says "Load Driver" "A required CD/DVD Drive Device Driver is Missing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." It gives
me the option to browse or click okay. Browse only brings up the (x:) Boot drive and VID. It doesn't find the driver in VID Than if I click okay it gives me a message that says "No Device Drivers were found. Make sure that the Installation media contains
the correct drivers and then click ok" I have tried to use smart provisioning but this fails as it cannot recognise the media from the DVD drive.
    Thanks in advance,

You should use HP smart start DVD to install the Windows Home Server. If you are booting directly from the Windows DVD it would some times not detect the drivers because of the hardware compatibility issue. You should contact the the vendor and seek help
    from him.

  • How to format 9 or 11 digit number with dashes

    Windows Adobe Pro 9.
Someone please be kind and have mercy on me, I've researched this issue for 5 hours now and cannot resolve it on my own.
I have a text field where the user will enter either a 9 digit or 11 digit number separated with dashes. If the number entered is 9 digits, it should appear as
XX-XXXXXXX. If 11 digits, it should appear as XX-XXXXXXX-XX. If only 9 digits are entered, the -XX at the end must be omitted.
I found a javascript that showed how to allow a varying number of digits, and I also found one that showed how to cause the dash to be entered, but I'm not smart enough to know how to combine the two. I've only used one other javascript before (how to format the time 12:00 am, with a gigantic thanks to Mr. George Johnson), so I know that I must put the script in "Advanced > Document Processing > Document JavaScripts." I think then I would go into the text field format and select "custom," and enter a keystroke and format script???
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    alice

    Hi Mr. Johnson,
When I copied the first part of the code into the document-level javascript editor box and hit okay, it gives this message:
    SyntaxError: return not in function
    8: at line 9
and the cursor moves to the empty line after:
// Do nothing if field is blank
        if (!s) return;
    Is there something missing?
    I really appreciate your help.

  • Flash Radio Buttons

Okay, I give up, I've searched online and in several forums,
    pored through
the Director documentation, and can't find a single tutorial
    explaining how
exactly to use the Flash component Radio Buttons in Director.
    And
apparently I'm not alone, about all I could find was another
    post in this
group from over a month ago asking the same question without
    getting a
single response. (Also found a few other questions regarding
    them in other
forums, but one thing I didn't find anywhere was anyone
    actually *answering*
these questions.) Do I have to actually use Flash to get
    these to work?
Assume for a moment that I know exactly nothing about Flash
    (not far from
the truth). What exactly do you have to do to make the other
    buttons
automatically deselect when you click one? According to what
    little
documentation there is in the Director help files, this
    should happen
automatically, but apparently I'm missing something, because
    it doesn't.
This was relatively simple with the old classic Radio
    Buttons, and I'm
seriously considering just going back to using those (never
    mind the
primitive graphics), or maybe just scripting my own from
    scratch. (It's not
really that complicated a behavior, and at this point it
    seems like it would
be easier than trying to use what seems to be an almost
    completely
    undocumented feature...)

The Flash Components are not documented in Director, though
    they are
documented in Flash. If you can parse the dense and difficult
    to
understand Flash Help file (and yes, you would need to have
    Flash to get
it), then you can see all the docs for those components.
Before I go much further, I should say that in my experience,
    using
#flashComponents is a painful and tedious business. I do not
    recommend
it. It will probably be MUCH easier on you in the long run if
    you write
    your own script from scratch.
But, for the sake or archival completeness, this is a script
    that will
do what you want with the checkbox/radio button
    #flashComponents:
    1) Go into the Property Inspector and on the FlashComponent
    tab for each
member, make sure that the eventPassMode is set to
    #passAlways
    2) Put this code onto the buttons:
    on mouseUp me
    if sprite(me.spriteNum).selected then
    sendAllSprites(#deselect,me.spriteNum)
    end if
    end
    on deselect me, vExcept
    if me.spriteNum<>vExcept then
    sprite(me.spriteNum).selected=0
    end if
    end

    CASE WHEN "Core"."Close Date"."Close Month" = VALUEOF(PREVIOUS_MONTH) AND TimeStampDiff(SQL_TSI_Month, "Core"."Open Date"."Open Month" = VALUEOF(PREVIOUS_MONTH) , "Core"."Open Date"."Open Month" = VALUEOF(PREVIOUS_MONTH) - 3 ) <= 3 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END
When i say okay, it gives the error

  • Buffer I/O error on device sdd1, logical block, HDD failure? [SOLVED]

    Hello!
I'm a bit puzzled here to be honest. Granted i'm not using linux as much as I used to (not after windows 7). I have archlinux running on my HTPC. Never had any issues before that was this severe, unless I upgraded and forgot to read news section. Booted the htpc today to be greeted by "Buffer I/O error on device sdd1, logical block" with a massive wall of text, a few seconds later "welcome to emergency mode."
*This is NOT hdd where the linux kernel is residing on. What logical purpose would it serve for the kernel/userspace to abort everything just because fsck fails or something? If this was indeed my linux partition I would fully understand.
Anyways, I used parted magic, ran fsck, smart. Sure enough fsck warned me about bad/missing superblock. Restored the superblock by using e2fsck. I had over 10 000 "incorrect size" chunks. Ran 2-3 SMART after that. fsck says okay, smart gives a 100% status report with no errors.
Oh yeah, I have turned off FSCK completly in my fstab, thinking about at least turning it on my bigger hdds
    Questions:
*Is SMART reliable? If it says it's alright, does that mean i'm safe? Would physical broken sectors turn up by SMART?
*I know SMART warns the user in windows 7 if hdd failure is imment. Is this possible within linux as well? Since i'm NOT using a GUI, is this possible to send through a terminal/email?
*Sometimes the HTPC have been forefully shut down (power breakage), could this be one of the causes of the I/O error?
As always, thank you for your support.

Sorry for the late reply guys. Been busy with my other hdd that decided to screw with me. e2fsck first complained about bad sectors, and wrong size. Now it says all clean. I've decided to remove this HDD from server and mark it "damaged".
Thank you again for your help

    1) Don't trust the 'SMART overall-health self-assessment test result', run the diagnostics (short, long, conveyance, offline). The short and conveyance tests are quick so start with them. If they both pass run the long test. The offline test is supposed to update SMART attributes, but it generally takes longer than the long test, so save it for last if at all. Usually when I see bad drives the short or long tests pick them up.
    2) Look into smartd.service.
greenfish wrote:What logical purpose would it serve for the kernel/userspace to abort everything just because fsck fails or something?
Systemd craps itself if an fs configured to mount during boot can't be mounted, even if the fs isn't necessary for the system to boot. Rot sure about how it handles fsck failures. This 'feature' can be disabled by putting nofail in the fstab options. I add it to every non-essential automounting fs.
Thank you for the useful information. I will save this post for future references.
Will deff look into smartd.service, especially when I have so much data running 24/7.
Will also update my fstab table with "nofail" like you suggested
    Thank You!

  • Setting variable in script to result returned in another script

    I have two scripts.
Using a default answer dialog, the first script returns a result consisting of one word.
The second script begins with "set myWord to . . . ."
Is there a straightforward way of completing the myWord command with
"text returned of result," where the result is in the first script?
I've looked through the forum and the answer is probably there, but I'm not certain.

Okay, I give up (but not for lack of trying).
First, I get nowhere in the second script unless I use "load script file" in place of "load script"
More problematic: as a first script I'm using this as a test script:
property firstScript_myWord : [but I don't know what to put here, I've decided]
    on run
    tell application "Finder"
display dialog "What is your name?" default answer ""
    end tell
set firstScript_myWord to text returned of result
    end run
The display dialog part works as expected, and the result listed is the text returned of the result, i.e., the name entered in response to the dialog box. The Event Log is appropriate EXCEPT it doesn't show anything about setting "firstScript_myWord"
After running the first script, if I run the second script I get a variety of results -- seemingly dependent on whether the first script has been run more than once. This may be consistent with the persistence of declaring a property.
I do expect the first script to be run many more times than once, with different names (or words, or whatever) entered -- and what I was looking for was a second script whose myWord would be set each time to any new "text returned of result" in the first script. But, if there has been no change in myWord, I do need the last myWord to persist through reboots, etc.
Another approach would be to save the "text returned of result" in the first script to a file, and the last entry in that file could be used to set myWord in the second script -- but I haven't figured out whether this is possible (or how to do it).
What you provided has been helpful, and it's almost certainly something I'm not doing right preventing me from making it work.

  • Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/sql/CharacterSet

    Okay, I give!
I keep getting this runtime error when running this program I wrote.
the oracle directory (where all the classes are stored) resides in the directory where my Class files live. I even added: ./
to my classpath, but that didn't help at all.
I navigated to: oracle/sql and did find CharacterSet.class
What's even stranger is that I developed this application on a Sun/Solaris machine using Java 1.2.2 then I deployed it on a Sun/Solaris machine with Java 1.3 (but I am not using any of JDK's 1.2 stuff... its all just plain java).
Very strange. Any input as to what this problem may be I would appreciate some guidance.
    thank you!

If you are using the OCI driver, you may need to include the NLS classes:
    nls_charset12.zip
    In the classpath.

  • Photo management software?

    Another question...
On the PC, I had (well, still do - in my Boot Camp partition) is a photo management program called CompuPic. With that program, I was able to arrange all my photos into a hierarchical folder arrangement and which helps me zero in on the desired photo - from there I could bring up the picture and do simple photo editing when needed.
I have seen iPhoto, but its insistence on organizing by 'events' is kind of a turn-off - having to add an 'event' for each folder looks to be more work than I have time for.
Any other good photo management programs out there?

*as I move the mouse over each 'event', the thumbnail has an annoying tendency to change to different photos within that folder*
This isn't an annoyance, it is a mini-slideshow. An event's thumbnail is the first photo in that event and as you slowly moving your cursor over the thumbnail you get to see the rest of the pictures inside that event. It is a convenience since you don't have to open the event (double-click it) to see what's inside. If you aren't sure what event the picture you're looking for from, or if you've forgotten what pictures are in the event this is nice.
For me, an event is a convenient chronological organizer. I know the picture I want was taken at Betty's wedding, or maybe the day before at the rehearsal dinner. Okay, that gives me two events to look in. But is isn't the only way to organize.
Tagging: I am becoming a huge fan of tagging files - pictures and otherwise. iPhoto originally came with only rudimentary tagging ability but it has gotten better with each new release. As time has gone on my tagging has become more extensive so that I'm using permanent albums less and less.
Albums: You can create an album and drag any group of pictures into it. Want to put all Granny Smith's pictures together? No problem and it doesn't matter if they are in different events. Just start looking through your library of pictures and start dragging them into your Album.
*Smart Albums:* This is even better - and why I like tagging my photos. A Smart Album is created like a smart playlist in iTunes. Create one using a set of criteria and let iPhoto do the work for you.
Folders: Here's where you start building your hierarchy. Don't want to put all the family vacations into a single album but want to be able to find all the family vacation pictures? No problem. Use an album for each individual vacation and then stuff all the albums into a Folder.

You are facing three problems: First, you don't know how to use iPhoto and don't understand its methodology or power while you do know CompuPic. Second, CompuPic's methodology is totally different from iPhoto's and you are trying to enforce its methods onto iPhoto. Doesn't work - it's like trying to teach a dog to ride a bike. Third, you are coming into iPhoto with a whole lot of pictures and importing them in and organizing them with events is not fun - believe me. I know.
My wife probably had the best idea and it came from seeing and hearing me struggle. She upgraded to the newest version of iPhoto and combined all her old pictures into one event she called 'Old Stuff' and began using it. In the course of a couple months she settled into the new version and then took a weekend to organize the 'Old Stuff' into separate Events. By this time she knew how the program worked and had developed a good strategy for working with it.

  • Stuck in recovery error

I recently had a problem with the hard drive on my laptop that made it unusable. While I could get it started it would error and restart and then try (but fail) to repair itself when I tried to do anything. To try and get myself a usable system again I have bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236561 and a set of recovery disks from HP. The hardware Installation was easy but Im having problems with the recovery process. It has got itself to 4% of the 'copying files required to restore the hard drive' and I get an error
    Copy File Fails
    Fom D:\PRELOAD\BASE15.SWM
    To C:\RM\Image\BASE15.SWM
    Press Ok to retry
and clicking okay just gives a few seconds before it pops back up again.  Ive no idea what I can do to make it get past this. An advice on what the problem mightbe and what I can do to remedy this would be greatly appareciated.
