Okay, I'm a bonehead.

This question requires a quick story. I bought the film Invincible from iTunes (very fun movie, by the way.) Anyway, I was watching it the other night on my computer, and got so excited about one of the football scenes that I knocked a beer all over my wireless apple keyboard (which is now dead, but that's another aspect of the story unrelated to this and is but one more reason to loath my own stupidity.)
Anyway, as I grabbed the keyboard to get it out of the way of all the beer (Harpoon UFO), I must have hit some weird key combination. Because Invincible was suddenly GONE from my "Movie" tab in iTunes, whereas it had been there before. Very strange. (yes, I had a spare keyboard to get back up and running after my beer spill.)
Well, I had to see the end of the movie, and was a little buzzed and a lot ****** off, so I figures, screw it, I'll download another copy, don't care what it costs.
Well, I was only half paying attention, and realized right after I had clicked "okay to buy" while on mental automatic pilot (okay, maybe I was slightly impared), that I had just ordered the SOUNDTRACK, not the MOVIE. Which I had NO INTEREST in buying. Thinking fast (and stupidly), I turned off the computer to prevent the download from happening.
What a good strategy. Well, the soundtrack for Invincible never downloaded, but today I got a receipt for buying it, $10 down the toilet. How can they charge you without verifying you even got the music?!? Whether you wanted it or not.
So, here's my first quesion. How do I get Apple to at least allow me to download this $10 soundtrack that I don't really want? I can't see just GIVING them $10 for nada. I recognize that trying to get my $10 back would be a fools errand...
Second - more as a point of interest, and here I am exposed as a total idiot, I had forgotten that I had already backed up the movie to a portable hard drive! (Yes, I was dumb enought to want to buy a new copy, forgetting the backup.) Anyway, once I looked at the backup, the movie magically reappeared on my "Movies" tab, but Invincible no longer shows up on the "purchased" tab. I guess I don't care, since I can watch it again, but what's with the weird behavior?
This all probably sound irrational or downright dumb, but what can I say? I'm a recent convert to Macintosh, and my instinctive reaction to Windows problems is blind anger and hostility. It carries over. Plus, Invincible is going to get a football fan worked up, and stuff like this happens.
Anyway, if someone knows how I can get my tunes, or better yet my ten buck, back, thanks!
Thanks in advance.

  • Finding Service Name

Okay, I'm a bonehead. I installed 9i release 2 on a Windows 2000 test box several months ago. I got busy and didn't write down any of the basic information for the instance, and now I need to find the Net Service Name. Is there in installation log that keeps track of things like that when you do an install?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Open a command prompt and type
    lsnrctl status
This should show you the service names that the Oracle instances on your machine has registered with the listener.
Note: Above is not tested on a 9i install :)

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Preventing disabling of check box - item okay in MIGO

    Dear all,
In the MIGO transaction - during goods receipt for subcontractor material, when the item (incoming) is checked as item okay - automatically the child material (Material sent to subcontractor) is also activated thereby to enable 543 movement.
Unfortunately some of the users are disabling the check box (for the material sent to the subcontractor). This prevents depletion of stock from the subcontractor but inflates the stock of the incoming material.
Is there any way - either by authorisation check to prevent users disabling the check box or other methods?
Experts suggestion is required in this regard.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you using the Sky Go app to try and watch it ? If so are you logged in with your Sky account ?
If you are using the app then you could try closing the app completely and see if it works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Sky Go 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Sky Go app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Leaving pc with SSD on -okay?

    Model Name: Satellite P770-BT4G22  / Model-Part Number: PSBY3U-0CX02H
I have had a problem with restore points disappearing on my computer.  If you go to Control Panel>System>System Protection and the Configuration tab it will show space taken up (I have it set to 20% allowed) and it would be making them every day, but when I'd go to view them (Control Panel>Backup and Restore> Recover System Settings or Your Computer) it would not be uncommon for Windows say there were none and that I had to set up System Restore.   So I'd go back to the Config screen and "delete" the restore points to free up the space, set it all up again only to have them disappear randomly.  It seemed like this was happening 1-2X a week to me.
I'm kinda past troubleshooting that as I looked at it on a Windows 7 forum, tried everything I could find, and none of it worked. Although  someone has suggested there may be problems with the hibernation or paging files and I should delete them - I haven't tried that yet.
However, quite by accident, I found that if I left my computer on - did not let it go to sleep - the problem disappeared.  It's been weeks now and it hasn't happened once.  I have oddles of restore points.
So my question is if it is okay to leave my computer - which has a hybrid solid state drive - on all the time?  I have another computer which is a server and on all the time but it's a desktop without a SSD and I don't know if it's different for a notebook with a SSD.  If leaving it on is a problem then I will need to look harder to find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.

Okay so when I try to download apps on my phone a totally different Apple ID that I've never used before popped up. I've already tried settings under apps/iTunes and signed into my own apple account. But even doing so my apple Id won't show up

    Try this:
Open the iTunes app, select the Music tab, then scroll all the way down to the bottom.  Here you can sign out of any current Apple ID and sign into a new one.  Good luck!
And just in case there is another Apple ID linked to your account you can check at http://appleid.apple.com.

I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files on iMac 20inch but still have them on the TC for future reference..eg some movies on iTunes. I want to directly save them on the drive so I can delete them from iTunes and gain some storage. (Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.

  • Discoverer report runs okay in test system but very slow in live

    Hi all
My Discoverer report takes about 5 minutes to run in the test environment. The same report (absolutely the same SQL in the custom folder in the admin edition and the same conditions and sort in the Desktop edition) takes at least 45 mins to run in live.
Has anyone faced a problem like this? How can I speed up my report in the live environment? I am using Discoverer version 4.1.48.06.00
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards
    Aruna

    Hey Aruna.
Are you sure the 2 environments are exactly the same (ie: one recently copied to the other)? Reason I'm asking is that if one has many more records, or one has an index, etc. then that would, of course, cause a difference.
What about the time when you're running it? Is the production environment an Apps environment and they're running batch jobs, updating shipping info in the last week of the month, etc?
I would first of all see if the environments are the same by trying something as simple as running the query in TOAD or SQL Navigator or SQL Developer in both environments and then seeing if there's the same difference. If not, then move on to the Discoverer side of things.
If they're still different, then are the Disco environments the same? Have you turned query prediction, etc. off in DEV but not in PROD?
Is the DEV box a hot damn new UNIX box with all the good stuff like oodles of memory, multi-processors, etc? And is the PROD box a Commodore 64? Okay, just kidding on the last test, but you get the idea.
Start at the same relative time (ie: morning). Start TOAD, etc. and see the speed difference there. Then move on to Disco and see the speed difference.

Okay since last apple software update my safari will not open youtube, yahoo or google, an error message comes up saying safari cannot connect to the server.  Can anyone help me with this please?

    Hi Joshua ..
Check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that wasn't the issue, try using OpenDNS.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, prevents the, "can't connect to server" issue, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser re directs, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
    More about OpenDNS here.

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
