Okay, Im at a loss Virtual PC 7

Okay, so I just got my new MacBook and was really excited. I went through and started to install the usual standard applications I have on my 17" powerbook. You know the necessary evil ones from Microsoft. Well I was so excited I got office 2004 installed, all the updates and then bang !!!! Virtual PC 7.
So, I put in the VPC7.0 install cd, double clicked on the installation icon, every thing seemed fine. Then you reboot and then all of the sudden, an error message.
Virtual PC failed to start - close, report or reopen....
Also, I got a message about the VPC service not having the appropriate permissions. So, I clicked on the fix prompt, it reboots and gives me the same message to report close, or reopen.
Then I downloaded the 7.02 update and tried to install it as well and it failes with the same error.
Has anyone installed VPC7 on their new macbook pro??? Or am I just an idiot (which is entirely possible, but I've done this many many times before)
Thank you all for any information that would help.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

MS is working on releasing Intel compatible versions of their apps. This is from Microsoft's website:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=macIntelQA
Q. What does the announcement about Intel-based Macs mean for Virtual PC for Mac?
A. Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 is still the best emulation solution for users who have PowerPC-based Macs, but it does not run on Intel-based Macs. We are working with Apple to determine the feasibility of developing Virtual PC for Mac for Intel-based Macs. Virtual PC for Mac is highly dependent on the operating system and hardware and will require additional development to run on Intel-based Macs.

  • WL9/bpel10.1.3.4 MLR10  high availability setup missing internal queues.

    Hi,
Noticed that setups on weblogic HA (High Availability) cluster setups have a bug in setting up the JMS SOA module.
Currently 2 mandatory queues (distributed) and corresponding Factories are missing: eg BPELInvokerQueue and BPELWorkerQueue.
These queues basically guarantee no message loss during for example http/SOAP communications. Like in our case BPEL <-> OSB.
On non HA setups and probably older versions of BPEL the porting to WL9.2 goes smoother as they do contain these queues/.
Does anyone know putting them manually resolves the problem? Putting Service request on OTN to support this.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,
and so on. It's much more simpler, better and less expensive.
CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.

  • CRIO and ni 9234 modules not working or communicating through fpga with accelerometers, fpga connected to real time application which is also connected to shared variables linked to modbus slave

    Hi,
I have a compact rio which has a 4 way chassis attached to that chassis is three ni9234 modules they are linked using fpga to a real time application then using shared variables in the low speed loop that are linked to a modbus slave to communicate with dcs, the ni 9234's have accelerometers connected to them with iepe ac coupled option on the c modules, my problem is the real time application seems to be running okay even when power loss occurs it restarts with no problem and the fpga writes to the portable hard drive bin files fine but without a accelerometer connected I get low noise readings as soon as I connect a accelerometer to any one of the 10 outputs it just goes to a fixed number (0.03125) as soon as disconnect it again it reverts back to reading noise, I have run a scan on the modules and only get a spike when I connect or disconnect the accelerometer, I have tested the voltage at the pins of the module and I get 22 volts dc which makes it more likely that the hardware is not the problem but a software is maybe causing this to hang-up, I attach project and files for your perusal. I also carried out a new project which in scan mode directly linked the module input to shared variable and the same scenerio again. Help would be much appretiated.
    Many thanks

Whren using waveform acquisition with the 9234s we recommend the following FPGA and RT template.
    http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/209114
it can be extended as a data logger with:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6388
or using shared variables combined with scan engine
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/9851
The FPGA in all of these, as well as the RT framework have been used successfully by 1000s of users.  I would recommend giving these a try.

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migration and Architect a resilient and high availability exchange setup

    Hi,
I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers  and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My
goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.
Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.
Here is what I have planned so far.
    1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.
    2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.
    3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?
    4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.
    5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.
    6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.
    7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.
once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.
Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.
thank you for your help in advance

  • NI VB connected to our docking station sometimes face boot/re-boot problems

Since we have the ‘National Virtual Bench’ connected to our docking station (USB) we sometimes face some boot/re-boot problems with our laptop.
The booting hangs, and shows below message on the display. Power Off/On doesn’t help.
It appears to be caused by the Virtual Bench, when switched On. When Switched Off, booting is okay.
Switch off the Virtual Bench box when booting/re-booting the Laptop.

Just to follow up: The behavior I was getting above (stuck at the Dell logo for ~80 seconds) was because the Dell Latitude E6330 BIOS (version A02) wasn't giving the device a standards-permitted amount of time after a particular USB control message. That problem was fixed in version A06.
I was able to reproduce your issue on the E6330 with BIOS versions A08 through A14. Those versions seems to get confused by the presence of a composite USB device with both HID and Mass Storage interfaces (such as VirtualBench). A14 is currently the latest version for that model, so I suspect this is still a problem in the latest versions for other Dell Latitudes and Optiplexes.
We're working on escalating this issue to Dell. In the meantime, the workaround is the one you've already discovered: either disconnect your VirtualBench or put it into standby (power button) while booting your laptop.

  • New VM Server - Very Slow Performance with QuickBooks

    Hello all,
    Oh the dreaded performance issues!
Okay we currently have a virtual server hosted with a different company - it has two VPU's and 8GB RAM.  The contract is about to expire so we're switching to a Microsoft Azure VM.  This server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 - main purpose is
to host QuickBooks Enterprise v15 - with 10 users connecting via RemoteApp and/or RD.
So for the new Azure server we selected the A3 (4 cores/7GB RAM) option - running Windows Server 2008 R2 - I know old O/S - but still need for now.  We also attached a new 250GB disk for additional storage of data/programs.  The test users noticed
performance issues right away so we temporarily upgraded it to the A4 option (8 cores/14GB RAM) and although it is better there are still performance issues.  For example to run a statement report in QuickBooks - viewing both connections side-by-side
    - it is 2x faster on the current "live" server we have hosted with the current hosting provider.  On the Azure VM we also tested installing QuickBooks on the C:\ drive and then on the attached 250GB disk - the F:\ drive - same performance results
    on both.
This is a new VM...fresh install....just so strange why it would be slower than the 8GB server.
Does anyone have any ideas on where we can start to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks so much!

I understand the performance seen by end users are low. However, do you know what is really wrong? Do you see Azure VM using almost 80% of CPU & RAM, if not adding more RAM & CPU may not really help you.
    - How is the CPU usage of your on-premise node vs Azure VM
    - How is the memory usage of your on-premise node vs Azure VM
Do you have any specific characteristics for Disk IO requirement? Can you check IOPS on on-premise vs Azure?

  • My New Observations

Well... everybody take a deep breath: I have re-installed Lightroom. Here's what I discovered that led to my decision to re-install:
    1. I used Lightroom V1 for a week (after using BETA 3 and BETA 4) and messed around with the different modules. I experimented and explored. I developed 9 images and exported them as JPGs.
    2. I decided to return my purchase of Lightroom after feeling like it was a mess and wasn't ready for prime-time.
    3. I re-cataloged with iView MediaPro and opened my first image from IVMP to ACR/PSCS2 for edits. I tweaked the image in ACR and transferred it to PSCS2. I saved the PSD. I then cropped the image, sharpened, and added my watermark. I saved that PSD too. I then changed the color space and saved as a JPG.
    4. I then realized that while my workflow wasn't terribly slow, it wasn't terribly fast either. However, what I did realize was that in the time it took me to edit that one image, I had edited (and exported) those 9 images from Lightroom.
Wait... I was scratching my head. Could Lightroom actually help me develop a more streamlined workflow? I sat down and thought it out for a minute. I came to another realization: I started with a RAW image (using IVMP/ACR/PSCS2) and ended up with a RAW plus two PSDs and a JPG. With Lightroom, I had only a RAW and a JPG.
I'm scratching my head again. So, I think, Lightroom is also saving me disk space. Hm... okay, how can I use virtual copies? I then figure out that I can take my RAW file, edit it, and make a virtual copy for each crop size I intend on using. For example, I have a RAW file. I edit it. I then decide to print it as an 8x10. So, I create one virtual copy and crop it to 8x10. Later, I decide to also print a 5x7. Another virtual copy, this time set to 5x7. I can use virtual copies so that my crops are consistent; I don't have to worry about re-printing a cropped image and hoping that I crop it the same this time as I did last time because I have my crop saved as a virtual copy. Additionally, I have taken up no appreciable disk space because these aren't actual files.
It was like a lightbulb clicking on. And so... I have re-installed Lightroom.
While I still believe there are issues that must be addressed, and there have been bizarre design decisions with the development of Lightroom, I maybe realizing how Lightroom will work for me. Maybe this is what I missed the first go 'round.
So, with large fork in hand, I must take my leave to eat a slice of humble pie.

Yeah... I still feel like Lightroom is too slow, and I am hoping that Adobe recognizes that as well. The speed, coupled with the "bugs" and certain unusual design features, still bothers me. However, once I stepped back from my initial disappointment, I saw something different. After trying Lightroom and then going back to IVMP/ACR/PSCS2, I found what Lightroom was about.
Now, if I could block the Slideshow, Print, and Web modules from appearing in the Module Picker, and if I could add modules for Noiseware, Smart Sharpen, and Photoshop Actions, I would be set.

  • Loss of network connectivity at random times to guests and now hosts Server 2012 R2 Hyper-v on Dell R620...Guests virtual disks reside on a NAS.

We have set up 2 Hyper-v environments (Server 2012 R2 fully updated) on Dell R620's. The guest machines are configured do that they reside on a NAS (also a Dell R620 with server 2012). We are having an issue on both the environments where the guests will
lose network connectivity. The servers ran well for about 4 weeks and recently the guests started having issues and we have even had to reboot the host due to network connectivity problems.
We have 4 virtual switches set up. 1 connected to its own NIC. 1 for management and the 3 others for guests.
The 3 for guests are not configured to allow host OS sharing.
We do not have IP addresses on the NICS for the guests. Only on the management port. (all 1 GB NICS)
We have updated the firmware and drivers for the standard Broadcom Netxtreme cards.
We do not have Jumbo frames enabled because of some issues with switching compatability.
I've seen articles recommending to turn off TCP offloading and to disable virtual machine queues. Is this best practice?
Any thoughts of where I might look to help diagnose this issue?

    Hi ,
"1 connected to its own NIC. 1 for management and the 3 others for guests."
Also you mentioned that : " is only hosting these 24 VMs ".
First please try to disable the RSS in the property of the NICs for guests .
Then run powershell " Get-NetAdapterVMQ " to check the parameter "NumberOfReceiveQueues"  (NumberOfReceiveQueues – The number of queues that the NIC has available to use and assign to VMs,
the host and a default queue) .
If I understand correctly ,when you enable VMQ  the number of connected VMs on that NIC should not be more than the value of  "NumberOfReceiveQueues" -2 .
For details please refer to following link:

  • PCA  Virtual Cube for Balance Sheet/Profit & Loss

    Hi
I ma trying to create a Balance Sheet and P&L for profit centers, similar to the BS & PL available on 0FIGL_V11. I have assigned 0GLACCEXT to a custom virtual provider, but I am unsure whether I can use the same function module (RS_BCT_FIGL_DATA_GET) on the custom VC or should whether I will need to create my own.
If I need to create my own Function Module, can I copy RS_BCT_FIGL_DATA_GET, but how should I adapt it? Are there any other function modules more suited to this task?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

  • FTDI virtual com port driver (VCP) and Labview 2009 - random connection loss

    Hi,
I am using an FTDI chip to go from USB to serial communication (FTDI Driver: 2.06.00). It seems to work at first but then after some time the connection gets lost ("connection for the given session has been lost" or "I/O error"). This happens in MAX as well as the built executable of the program I am running. Latest VISA drivers are installed - 4.6.  I have tried flushing the buffer before and after communication with both visa clear and visa buffer flush vis. The lost connection seems to happen randomly.
I have seen other threads about this issue but they never reach a resolution. One thing i notice is that there are two FTDI devices in this system and only one fails, however when I unplug the working device the one that fails is able to connect again.
To sum up here are the system specs:
    Windows XP SP3
FTDI 2.06.00 and older 2.04.02 drivers both fail.
2 FTDI devices on the system - they do get assigned different COM ports
    Labview 2009 run-time
    VISA 4.6 run-time
    Thanks for any help.

We use Targus ACH63US Super Mini USB 2.0 4-Port Hub. It doesn't require external power but if you have a high power device you will have to plug the Targus hub into two usb ports on your pc (one provides power and the other does power and data transfer). They provide the usb Y cable to do this.

  • Can Virtual PC access the web pages served by my Mac?

Macs are really awesome for web design. Really wonderful. Sooner or later, though, you run into this one little nagging issue: 85% of the ever-lovin' public uses IE 6. So, you gotta test all your stuff on IE 6 before you release it.
So. I've just installed XP Pro on Virtual PC 7.0.2 running on OS X 10.4.7. I've got the internet connection working by turning on virtual switch networking, which the program warned me probably wouldn't work with my wireless network (but seems to). The internet connection did not work until I turned this on.
While doing web development, I turn on Personal Web Sharing and preview my pages by accessing them through http://localhost/. I should be able to access pages served from my Mac from other computers on my network by typing in the IP address shown in System Preferences. Indeed, this has always worked in the past, but from separate computers. My theory is that the virtual PC is a computer on the same network as its host, but when I try to access my Mac's IP from Internet Explorer, it doesn't work. Other web pages work, just not the ones served off my Mac.
I literally have changed no settings within Windows. The only thing I've changed in VPC is the virtual switch networking thing.
    ipconfig says this:
    Windows IP Configuration
    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : domain.actdsltmp
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.107
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
And the TCP/IP prefpane says this:
    IP Address: 192.168.1.101
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.1.1
So...looks good, right? Yet it's broken. I'm at a loss. Does anyone know if this is possible at all?
    Thanks,
    -Ryan

    hi there,
sorry I cannot answer the reason why, but I have the same problem.
I initially made my website in iweb version 1.x and when I bought the new copy of iweb updated the site to iweb 08
however since doing so, the minute it was uploaded, I got emails saying that my website had crashed peoples computers and it was slow, something that I had never had before
having updated the domain to iweb08 I couldnt go back, so rebuilt the site in iweb06 - and since never had a complaint since.
However forgetting why I decided against using iweb08 to produce my site, when I got my new mac, I recreated my website from scratch in iweb08
within a couple of hours of uploading the new site, I can various emails saying that the site was crashing peoples computers and again the site was slow, yet I was only upgrading the site, using the same basis for the iweb08
anyway have gone back to my iweb06 and asked the people that had the problems to try again and low and behold the website is working a dream
Could someone shed light on why iweb08 creates so many problems for the people viewing the site.
I viewed the site okay in mozilla firefox, but is does seem to be an issue with PC's and also IE
I have iweb 2.0.4 currently as its a new imac, and 1.1.2 on my macbook
    the site is with 1and1

These are the results of a test I ran, but I don't know how to solve the problem. The game is unplayable because of the amount of packet loss. I know it is an issue of connection between the game and my router, so should I get a new router if mine is old?

The router I would imagine to be okay for the first bit, but for the sake of things, reboot the router and also try giving your ONT a reboot by unplugging it from AC power and then disconnecting the battery. Re-connect it after 30 seconds by connecting the battery and then plugging it back into AC power.
Also, see if the packet loss takes place during specific times of the day. If your router has a WAN connection over Coax (rather than an Ethernet connection) to your ONT, also consider checking your MoCa speeds based on this FAQ. Poor MoCa speeds can suggest shoddy coaxial causing some issues, too: https://secure.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.2_MOCA#16569

  • I am unable to install Virtual Machines on my Mid-2013 MacBook Air

    Dear Apple Support Community,
I have recently moved away from a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro to a new Mid-2013 MacBook Air. As much as it pains me, I have a need to install a virtual machine running Windows 7 in order to utilize an application called vSphere. The vSphere web interface is too unreliable to use via any web browser, so running a Windows VM is the only way forward.
However, when using VMWare Fusion 5 (I know 6 is available, but I do not have a license for it) or VirtualBox (very latest version) I receive an error which states that my CPU is not 64-bit compatible. I was under the impression that since Snow Leopard (10.6) was release that Mac OS was fully 64-bit. My MacBook Air is currently running Mavericks (10.9.1). It has a 1.3GHz Intel Core i5 CPU.
I read that Apple restricts access to the EFI firmware settings, as I originally thought it was a case of enabling Virtualization capabilities on the processor. To further add to the dilemma my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro has no issues running VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox, so I am at a loss as to why I am unable use these virtualization platforms on my new Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember reading somewhere that the new macbook air's from 2013 have a 64 bit core i5 4250u processors.
    Also intel mentions it here:

  • How can I create a virtual keyboard shortcut in my dock?

So I started using my MacBook Pro as a device I connect to my TV. I have an HDMI adapter, and, after setting up the display and sound, it is awesome! I even purchased a Trackpad so I can sit on my couch and navigate. The cost of the adapter and Trackpad are more than paid for with my canceling of cable.
Anyway, my question is about the virtual keyboard in OS X. It doesn't happen often, but I sometimes have to type in a user name or password for sites. I know how to go through "System Preferences", "Universal Access", and then "Keyboard Preferences" to turn it on, but is there a faster way?
What I really want to know is if I can create a shortcut in my dock for the virtual keyboard?
If not, does anyone know of any third party, virtual keyboard applications that would work this way?
    Thanks!

    @ KA-BOOM!!
    Okay, try this:
    1. Copy KeyboardViewer.app to your Applications folder (or wherever you want it).
    2. Edit this copied KeyboardViewer.app bundle with TextWrangler or a comparable text editor or a property list editor, changing a single character in KeyboardViewer.app/Contents/Info.plist so that the value for NSUIElement is 0 instead of 1.
    3. Drag the new KeyboardViewer.app to the Dock.
When you want to quit the application, do so from the Dock icon.  (If you click the red button--the usual way to quit KeyboardViewer when it has been invoked from the menu extra--the application will keep running facelessly in the background and you won't be able to get the KeyboardViewer GUI back again unless you kill its process or restart.  All in all, quitting from the Dock icon is the quickest solution.)
