Okay so my phone crashes approximately every 30 seconds. I have tried resetting it by DPU as well as on the phone itself.  Once in awhile i get an error message about unknown error 1.  If i look at the diagnosis or if runs on itunes i get the following.  When I called the support at AT&T they think the phone is shot and it is a hardware thing but i have a hard time believing that when it happened when I sync'd it to my computer.  It did get progressively worse though, at first it crashed not that often and then got worse.  So restores are failing, recovery, everything.  Anyone run into this?

My Purchases show partially downloaded. When I attempt to resume the download I recieve an error message: "an unknown error occurred -50". I tunes has charged for the download and sent a reciept however the shows wont play?

I had the same problem so (assuming under the Purchased items in the Store you have a song stuck at 'Downloading'):
I went to Music, then Artists.
From there I chose the album.
The song that failed to download had the cloud symbol next to it.
I clicked the cloud symbol and the song completed the download for me.
(Please note this was in iTunes for Windows - I expect it to be similar in iTunes for Apple)

Some of the songs downloaded but not the majority, when I try to download the songs, it gives me an error 8003 Unknown error occured. What am I doing wrong? If I can't download this album, how do I get a credit??

    Hello mercdw,
Once the music has been downloaded to your iPhone, you can transfer purchases from your device to iTunes.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Alternatively, the following article provides further information regarding this error and steps that can help resolve the issue.
    "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023"
These alerts occur due to timeouts or conflicts trying to write a file during download.
If you encounter this issue while accessing iTunes Store:
See iTunes 9: "One Moment Please" or "Error (-50)" message when accessing iTunes Store
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads   Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
    Windows Vista:
  \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows 7:
  \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows XP:
  \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
    Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
If you encounter this issue while while downloading Digital Copies using Windows:
Use MSCONFIG (directions for Windows XP and Windows Vista/Windows 7) to disable conflicting software.
If using MSCONFIG steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict.
You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to reoccur.
If you are able to isolate the issue to a particular third-party software, you may wish to contact them to let them know of the conflict.

  • I am getting an error message "an unknown error has occurred" everytime I try to download an App from the Appstore.  My ID and password are correctly entered.  How do I get rid of it?

I am getting an error message saying "an unknown error has occurred" everytime I try and down load an App.  My ID and password are entered correctly.  What am I doing wrong and how do I get rid of this?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • HT1386 unable to sync my ipad2   receive an error message 1140 (unknown error)  HELP..don't want to have to go to the apple store to be able to sync my ipad to my desktop !!

For some unknown reason, I am unable to sync my ipad2 with my desktop.  I receive a message saying it cannot sync due to an unknown error 1140.
Hate to have to run to the apple store to get this resolved...hope someone here knows the answer !!  I need to sync !!
    Thank You.

Experienced User Terrell Smith recently posted on this Error Code:
    Terrell Smith:
"Today I was in an Apple Store, and four Apple Geniuses could not solve this problem. It seems to have something with large iPhoto Libraries, because when I started iPhoto up with a small library (1,100 photos), the problem did not occur. In iTunes, under the Photo's option "Sync Photos," if the iPhoto library is large (38,000 photos), the option to select the radio button "Selected albums, Events, and Faces" is grayed out, and you cannot select it.
My guess is that since the large iPhoto library will not fit on your iOS device, iTunes throws the 1140 error.
As others have noted, if you uncheck "Sync Photos" in iTunes, the rest of things will sync instead of throwing the 1140 error message.
But you don't have synced photos then.
The Apple Store told me they have no solution for this error. We should file iPhoto Feedback, and that this issue has been escalated to Apple Engineering."

"An unknown error occurred when trying to play the video OutputApplicationProtectionFailed"
As of last night (24/2/13) we lost the ability to view Catch Up, On Demand, recorded shows.  Also unable to use pause, rewind, forward etc. whilst watching live TV.  All channels still being received and able to record new programmes, we are  just not able to watch anything back.  When trying to watch recorded programmes it instantly returns to the programme select page but changes the status of the recording to viewed (black to white).
All cables checked, adapters reset, registration restored, adapters paired, numerous reboots.  Been through the same routine time and time again.  Vision box (New Look) indicates that it is offline, but Home Hub is showing all 4 blue lights and able to use wireless broadband for all other devices (phones, tablet, laptop).  Currently no key modulus / tokens showing on System Information page within Help and Settings but the same issue occurs when tokens are active.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have been on the phone for two and a half hours with three different tech support assistants this morning and still unable to resolve this new issue.

I'm afraid I have never come across this. If you have checked all tat you say and powered it off at the wall I'm afraid I'm stumped. If you have got nowhere on the telephone then it might be an idea to contact the Mod team - link below

  • Unable to log on with apple ID - error message "an unknown error has occurred"

When I try and log on to apple website using my apple ID, I get an error message saying "an unknown error has occurred".  How can I fix this?
I've changed my password several times and was able to successfully make a purchase from Itunes using new password, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

For whatever reason, I can now log in to the apps store with one of  my ids. It says my other account no longer exists so I can not update pages and numbers. It will not let me rebuy these programs under the working account because my computer recognizes that I bought them before.
