Okay to delete files in Cache Fold

Is it okay to delete the files/folders under Program files/Creative/Software Update/Cache?
Thanks,
Peter

Peter,
Yes, it's safe to delete that. That's a temp folder to store the updates you have downloaded when you use the Software Autoupdate from the Creative website.

  • Gmail stops working until i delete the offline cache folder. why?

Using the Apple Mail Client, my G-Mail account stops updating every couple weeks.  I found through forums that if I delete the offline cache folder (it's hidden, library-mail-account) everything goes back to normal.  Why is this happening and why hasn't it been fixed?  I'd appreciate any insight!

    Hi Eric,
Since it doesn't happen to gMail on several Macs & OSX versions from 10.4.5 to 10.7.4 & beyond, I suspect Disc corruption, or possibly RAM, have you checked either?

  • New Tab Page - thumbnails are not using the files from cache folder, but they want a connection to their origin website.

    Hi there,
each time I visit a website, FireFox saves a thumbnail of all these sites for the "New Tab Page". Those thumbnails are cached in the 'thumbnails' Folder . That's so far ok for me.
    The problem is:
Every time if I use the "New Tab Page" (...after shutdown & reopening the browser and only with 'mousehoover' on any thumbnail) all the thumbnails on that page don't use the cached thumbnails from the local profile folder.
    This means:
Instead of using the cached thumbnail-files all(!) these thumbnails dials to their origin websites without(!) a mouseclick on any of these thumbnails (...see jpg pictures) !
I'm using the "Clear history when Firefox closes" with the following options:
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.history - false(!)
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings - false(!)
So, i can't believe that this homedialing of pinned and unpinned thumbnails should be a normal function.
    1. Screenshot: thumbnails in the New Tab Page
    2. Screenshot: the same thumbnails in the Cache Folder "thumbnails" (...also they are there after shutdown of Firefox)
    3. Screenshot: Dialing to the origin websites (...after restart of Firefox)
The Browser Version is Firefox ESR 31.2.0 and in the installation are no Add-ons, which are - for example - prefetching linked websites.
I would like to use the "New Tab Page" without 'homedialing', so the question is:
How can I force the thumbnails to use the cached thumbnail-files ?
    or
How can i disable the 'loading of content from their origin websites' already on mousehoover ?

There is a preload pref available that you could try to disable on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *browser.newtab.preload = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Applescript Deleted Files via "Make Folder" command

As I was working on an app to transfer photos from my memory card to my computer, I opened a new applescript window to do some testing of the next part of it separate from the main script. I did a simplet "make folder" command to make sure I had the right path. I went to the location I set (my photos library) and one by one, my photo folders started to disappear! This is the code Applescript ran:
tell application "Finder" to make folder in folder "Canon EOS T1i" of folder "Pictures" of folder "Steveporter" of folder "Users" of disk "Macintosh HD" of application "System Events"
The weird part is, ONLY the folders the app made were effected. I have other photos outside of folders that were not deleted, and my iChat Icons folder is still there. I also have the ""Untitled Folder" created by the script.
Does anybody know why in the world that one line in a script would delete my entire photos library? There were no other scripts running, the only apps were Safari and Applescript. I'd also like advice on how I can recover my photos. I downloaded the trial of MacKeeper and it is currently scanning my iMac for recoverable files. Thanks!

I have not heard good things about WD external enclosures.  The drive are supposedly OK.  Take drive out put in another enclosure.
    Stop using the drive immediately.
Get  an external drive.  I like OWC.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
    Has everything interface:
    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.

The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.

  • Cannot delete file from shared folder

While I was looking for another file in my shared folder, I discovered a jpg file named shannonhenry.jpg. All it appears to be is a school photo of a boy, maybe 14 or so. I tried to move it to trash to delete it because I do not know who this kid is, and I got an error message saying that I do not have sufficient priviledges. Anyone know what this file is or could be????

Well Kelley, that photo did not come with the system so it had to come from you or someone else putting in the Shared folder.
Choose the file and "get info" (command- i) turn the dislclosure triangle on "Ownership & Permissions" make sure you can "read & write" and make yourself the "owner"(open the lock and enter your admin password).
Then check under General, turn the disclosure triangle and be sure the "locked" box in NOT checked.
    Let us know.

  • Deleting files from trash folder 10.9.2

I recently updated to 10.9.2. Nothing seemed to have changed but the trash folder is acting funny. Now I am not able to delete any file from the trash. I select empty trash securely and then the dialog box displaying the number of files to be deleted appears and disappears in 1-2 seconds and the file/s dont get deleted.
Is there a way out of this?
    Cheers!

  • Unix command to delete files with .cache extension

I was wondering if anyone knew of a unix command that can be sent to another computer that will delete all files on the hard drive with a certain extension such as .cache.
    Like: rm *.cache
    Thank you!

Well, I don't recommend it, but if you want to fubar the computer, send this as root:
    find / -name "*.cache" -exec rm -f {} \;

  • Deleting my preview cache folder

hello, i have a similar problem to many that lightroom is now saying its having problems with the preview cache.....after reading some discussions i have found the folder and am going to delete it however i need to know if this is deleted witll all the photos i have in lightroom that have not been exported be deleted?
    thanks URGENT!!!!

If previews are deleted, LR will re-create them when needed (LR cleans the oldest ones out anyway, after a period, by default).
Probably best to do this while LR is not running - whenever it starts up a Catalog which lacks an associated previews cache, a new empty one is automatically created straight away. Then as you start working in that and accessing images, it will get populated.
However, the previews are purely a convenience, for performance reasons. The actual LR editing is stored inside the Catalog as instructions - and does not depend on any bitmap preview.

  • HELP! Deleting files in local folder deletes files from Mac HD.

After "getting" entire remote folder, all folders on my desktop and all folders and files linked to them (thousands) showed up in the Files Panel of my Local Folder. And each had a plus character next it. Worse, deleting one of these files deletes the actual file from my desktop and Mac HD. What can I do?

The + means it's a folder, click it to see the files within it.
DW doesn't store any files, it just organizes and works with the files on your desktop, so deleting a file from within DW will delete it from your HD. That is the expected and correct outcome.
When defining a site, you need to create a root folder for your site files to be stored (don't use your desktop folder). If you don't create a root folder to work from, I could see accidentally including all of your desktop items in your site. If that's what has happened, you need to redefine your site: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/
Anything that was deleted will need to be restored from a back-up, if that's what's happening.

  • Cant delete file from a folder..

    Hello All,
I am using Oracle Database 10g on Linux OS
I want to delete some file using PL-SQL for that I have written following program.
    DECLARE
    fileHandler UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    BEGIN
    UTL_FILE.FREMOVE ('MY_DIRECTORY','my_filet.txt');
    EXCEPTION
    when others then
    dbms_output.put_line('error is = '||sqlerrm);
    END;
but when I execute this I get a error message as
error is = ORA-29283: invalid file operation
but the Directory Name and File name are valid, though the error is there .Why?
    Pls help
    thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Abhijit.

It probably has to do with the permissions and file ownership of the target file on the server.
I tried the same code. I was able to delete a file where the owner was 'oracle' , and got the same error you have mentioned while trying to delete a file of another user with wrong permissions.

  • Delete File From Mounted Volume

    Hey,
I am trying to delete the "Calendar Cache" files on both my laptop PowerBook G4 and the Mac Pro Quad that I sync my calendars with. I am using ChronoSync and the individual calendars sync fine, but there is a little house keeping needed with the cache file. They need to be deleted on both systems in order to "refresh" the views of the calendars.
So after the sync of calendars, I have the software initiating an AppleScript that deletes both. Here's the script:
+(* PowerBook Files / delete cache file *)+
+(* Please note that both systems have the same username. This may be arise a conflict *)+
    +tell application "Finder"+
    + activate+
+ tell application "Finder" to delete file "Calendar Cache" of folder "Calendars" of folder "Library" of disk "useranthony"+
    +end tell+
+(* Mac Pro Quad/ delete cache file *)+
    +tell application "Finder"+
    + mount volume "afp://10.10.10.1/anthonyabraira"+
+ tell application "Finder" to delete file "Calendar Cache" of folder "Calendars" of folder "Library" of disk "/volumes/useranthony"+
    +end tell+
I am having trouble addressing a deletion on the networked Mac Pro Quad.

why send it to the trash — just delete it...
(* PowerBook Files / delete cache file )
    try
do shell script "rm -rf /Library/Calendars/Calendar\\ Cache"
    end try
you may need a delay for the Mac Pro Quad to mount
( Mac Pro Quad/ delete cache file *)
--the mount and then the delay
    delay 4
    try
do shell script "rm -rf /THE-CORRECT/PATH-HERE/Library/Calendars/Calendar\\ Cache"
    end try

  • Media Cache Folder taking up 80GB disk space

    Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Sony VAIO S with Adobe Premiere Elements 8 preinstalled, and ripped my CD collection into iTunes. I opened Premiere Elements and created a project to see what sort of features were included, but didn't import any media or capture any video.
I (even more) recently found that my disk space had dropped by roughly 80 GB, seemingly due to the Adobe Media Cache folder. It would seem that Premiere has been running some sort of background service (my suspicions are on ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe, a program that reappeared briefly after I 'cleaned' the cache folder) that has imported my AAC iTunes music collection into the Media section in Premiere, and in the process uncompressed all 7 GB of my 256KB/s AAC music into 80GB of 16bit/48KHz PCM, copied to the Adobe Media Cache Folder in C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache\Media Cache Files
    My questions are:
    - Can I delete the Media Cache Folder without causing problems with Premiere?
    - Can I prevent Premiere from adding all my media automatically (and uncompressing it in the process)? I don't mind not having all my music in the 'Media' sidebar of Premiere, I can just import the music I need.
Specs (if they help): Sony VAIO S, Intel i3 330M, GMA HD, 4GB RAM, Win 7 HP 64 bit. Premiere Elements 8.0.1. I also have PSE installed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim.

    Hello again Bill,

(sata) don't know if that's the controller
         C: 150GB velociraptor system & programs  17 free (until I delete cache)

G:  1TB  7200rpm   raw  202 free  - having to off load occasionally to archive disk,
I hope I have followed Harm's recommendations on allocation of disks, only have the three separate.
