Okular showing wrong characters in pdf

hi all,
i hve some problems with the recent okular (kdegraphics-okular 4.6.3-1), poppler (poppler 0.16.4-1) and gsfonts (gsfonts 1.0.7pre44-2) related to a known and so-called solved bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26139 .
the workaround discussed there does not seem to be a workaround for me as they just copy some files i wont find on my machine. anybody has a clue how to fix this properly?
bug is beeing seen in okular only, xpdf can show the pdf file properly. if someone points out a upload solution i can provide a sampe, where pi ist shown as != (as told in the bug report)
thanks in advance
ford

i think you have to convert them first, because the original data is in hex/binary.
Try convert it using FM CV120_CONVERT_CONTENT_TABLE.

  • Can't show special characters (ÆØÅ) in pdf fields created with inDesign CS6

Hi Guys im having a problem with special characters in pdf's form fields created in inDesign CS6
instead of the character ÆØÅ it creates squares or some other seemingly random character
    Here's the pdf

    I figured it out
Just in case people had the same problem here is how it's done: (i misunderstood the two posters above me, so you are actually going to change fonts within acrobat, like they said, and save it)
Open the pdf in acrobat, go and change font settings for each of your fields and change the font under the "Appearance" tab.

Hi. My ipad doesnt show some special characters (like omega). The is a problem when opening a pdf in safari, ibooks and goodreader, i.e. everywhere i try. Please, I need a solution since the ability to show pdf including those signs is why we got ipad at our company.

Please, I need a solution since the ability to show pdf including those signs is why we got ipad at our company.
I think the only solution is for you to try to get your material in another format, like .doc or .html, or modify the way the pdf's are created. Whether your current pdf's are made in some unusual way or iOS lacks something they need is hard to know. To tell Apple about the problem go here:

  • OfficeJet 8500a Plus wireless; Desktop is running XP sp3 ... printing wrong characters on .pdf docs

HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus on a wireless network; Win XP SP3.  Also have HP Deskjet 882C connected via USB to same computer.
When printing .pdf docs on the 8500, unpredictably, on some lines or sections of the document, the type prints as though it has switched fonts to a foreign language like Greek or Russian ... totally uncomprehensible.  I can attempt to print the same doc again, and I may get additional lines or sections in the wrong font, even though they printed correctly the first time.
I can print the same document on my 882C first time, every time without error.
Attempted to update 8500 drivers and firmware, but control panel on 8500 says no updates available.

Are you sure your using the 8500A drivers and not the 8500- they can and will cause this?  If not please check the print preview of that job and see if it looks okay and let me know.  Also make sure your Adobe is up to date... which version do you have?

I've seen this issue be raised in the past for another language. The advice then was to try copying the fonts in "C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\Template Builder for Word\fonts" to "<JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib/fonts"
(Thanks to Kevin W -- I copied this advice from him! :) )

  • International characters not showing properly in Adobe PDF form?

I'm trying to help out a customer with an issue they have with a form.
They had a form created, but it doesn't show danish characters properly.
It's created in Adobe Acrobat Pro on a Mac.
As soon as I enter a danish character it shows some sort of gibberish, all other characters show correctly.
This happens both if the form is opened on a windows and on a mac.
I found an article with google talking about a font that needed to be installed, but being very inexperienced with mac, I'm a bit at a loss if it's in Acrobat or on the mac the font is to be added, and how to do that.
Anybody that can enlighten my darkened mind ? :-)

I've seen the same thing on Photoshop and Fireworks CS3, and even just the other day on iMovie '09, but I was still on Leopard – so are you sure it's Snow Leopard-related?
In my case, CS3 apps would show squares, and iMovie wouldn't even move the cursor (it wouldn't even let me enter curly quotes). With iMovie it was easily fixed by typing in TextEdit, then copying and pasting to iMovie. No success in CS3 apps, which categorically refused to enter any glyphs that weren't more or less standard Latin.

  • How to show Greek characters in Italic style

How to show Greek characters in Italic style
Hi all, I'm tryng to resolve a problem with the Greek characters
I need to display labels in two languages, english or greek inside my report.
At the beginning of the report I have a placeholder with the xml code : *<?param@begin:p_language?>*, so I can understand inside my report if the user chose the Greek or English, and then I have many placeholders (labels) which have to be written in Greek or English.
If the language chosen is English, I don't have any problem to show my labels bold or italic in every fonts
Inside the placeholder I wrote the following code:
*<?xdofx:if $p_language = 'Ελληνικά' then 'Οργανισμός' else if $p_language = 'Αγγλικά' then 'Organization' end if?>*
I can chose font, style and bold/not bold directly from Word and when I run the report in pdf I see exactly what I chose.
If the language chosen is Greek....I see always the label in Arial, NOT BOLD and NOT ITALIC...
In order to see Greek characters BOLD:
    a) I added (under the ADMIN tab/Runtime Configuration/Font Mappings/ ) a font named Arial and I addeda target Font named Arialbd.ttf under the directory: D:\Oracle\Oracle_Homes\BIP_101341\jdk\jre\lib\fonts
    b) I changed the font (from word) to Arial
Now, ONLY with tha ARIAL font I can see my labels in greek bold, but I can't still see them in italic style.....
So, I tried to force these condition inside the placeholder with the following code:
    *<?if:$p_language = 'Ελληνικά'?><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="inlines" name="font">Times New Roman</xsl:attribute><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="inlines" name="font-style">Italic</xsl:attribute><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="inlines" name="color">red</xsl:attribute><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="inlines" name="font-weight">bold</xsl:attribute>Οργανισμός<?end if?>*
...but I continue to see the labels in Greek only bold, red but not in Italic Style......
Also adding another font called Arialbi.ttf (Arial bold Italic)...I can't see my labels in Greek bold with Italic Style....
Anybody had the same problem with another alphabet different from the latin one ???
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

  • When calling report in forms, only html format can show chinese characters

    To all experts,
When I run report by calling run_report_object() in forms, only html format can show chinese characters. If I choose pdf format, garbage characters were shown instead of chinese characters. My settings on server are as follows:
    NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.UTF8
    FORMS60_REPFORMAT=PDF
Do you know why? I hope to print report in PDF format as PDF turned out to be more regular in format. Is there any additional settings required?
May experts here broaden my mind?
    Richard

Assuming that you are using version 6i, try using Oracle9i Reports it has support for multi-byte in PDF.
By the way, Reports questions will get better response if you send them on the reports forum.

You have two different ways of generating Japanese PDF files from Reoprts. One is font aliasing and the other is font subsetting.
    <font aliasing>
You will need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
    [ PDF ]
    .....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
    "MS UI Gothic".....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
You may need to download and install Japanese Font Pack from Adobe's web site (if your Acrobat is non-Japanese version).
    <font subsetting>
You will need to add C:\WINNT\Fonts (or wherever your TTF/TTC fonts are installed) to your REPORTS_PATH.
You will also need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    "Andale Duospace WT J" = "Aduoj.ttf"
    "Albany WT J"="AlbanWTJ.ttf"
    "MS UI Gothic" = "msgothic.ttc"

  • Chinese Characters in Spool converted to Junk characters in PDF

    Hi,
I have spool generated from Script , the Spool shows me Chinese Characters. When I am trying to convert the Spool to PDF using Program RSTXPDFT4 , the PDF contains Junk Characters instead of Chinese Characters. Please let me know how to get the correct Chinese Characters in PDF.
    Regards,
    Swathi

    Hi,
For the spool you try to convert to PDF, which device type was this spool created by. It must be created via a Chinese device type like e.g. CNSAPWIN. The form used to create the spool must have language key ZH. The fonts used in the form for the Chinese characters must be a Chinese font like CNSONG or CNHEI.
Alternatively, if you create the spool via Unicode deviec type SWINCF, then the font and the form language are not important. It should work to convert the spool to PDF regardless of the language ley or font used in the form.

  • Reader 9.0.0 - Clipboard exports wrong characters

    Hi,
I've been trying to copy text from a pdf file into Windows Notepad.
Apparently, Acrobat Reader 9 sends wrong characters to the clipboard. Here's some text from AR9 (Android_Apps.pdf):
    "Biometric authen5ca5on system
    currently suppor5ng iris based
    authen5ca5on"
It seems AR9 changes "ti" into "5". How come?
    Axel Dahmen

    >But yet, doesn't pdf store the original text in addition to ligatures?
No. There's no capability to do that, and even if there was, no way to
force the PDF creator to use it.
What a PDF creator generally sees is a reference to a single character
in a font. In good cases, the character in the font uses a standard
like like "fi", "fl" or "ffi". This stuff gets stored into the PDF.
And there is a mapping into the Unicode ligatures. Acrobat is
actually fairly smart on text extraction: if you are extracting text
with a known ligature, and the operating system doesn't support it
(like using "fi" on Windows) it does generate a pair of characters.
However, "ti" is not a standard ligature, and doesn't exist in Unicode
so far as I've seen. This is fancy typography, but a problem.
