OLAP Catalog in 10g
We use 10g database and use AWM to create the analytic workspace, Dimensions, Levels, Hierarchies, Measures and Cubes etc. We also use BI Beans query manager for reading the Cube and have a UI on top of that.
Do we need to createn OLAP catalog also? What is that we will not be able to do if we don't create OLAP catalog?
What is the main use of OLAP catalog and how is it used in OLAP applications based on 10g ?
In 10g, standard-form AWs (such as the ones created by AWM) contain their own metadata. The OLAP API (which underlies the BIBeans) reads the embedded AW metadata. You no longer need the OLAP Catalog for AWs.
The OLAP Catalog is still used for data stored in tables. Also, for AWs that are not in 10g standard form, one must still create views and OLAP Catalog metadata for the views.

AWM 10g / Problems creating OLAP-Catalog of OEO-Database
Hi all,
I was creating a simple OEO-Database with one Time-Dimension with Express Administrator and exported it to an eif-File. Then I did the stuff Mark Rittman described in his article "Migrating Express Server Databases to 10g..". After this I started the Program CREATE_DB_STDFORM('aw_123'). Great! No errormessage and OLAP-Catalog Metadata was accessible over Excel-Addin or Disco Drake.
Then I tried the same with an existing OEO-Database an then I got folling errormessages at the end of Program CREATE_DB_STDFORM('aw_bsp01') and no OLAP-Catalog Metadata was created:
Analytic workspace AW_BSP01 successfully converted to >standard form.
Conversion done in 0 minutes and 3 seconds.

This errormessage does not say anything to me. I installed Patch 10.1.0.3C (Client and Server)
Thanks for help
ClausClaus,
I see a report of something similar in our bug database, but it's fixed in 10.1.0.3C. Please open a TAR so that we can look at this further.

No measures found in the OLAP catalog for user CS_OLAP
Working in XP, with Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0, AWM 10.2.0.1A, JDeveloper installed from the 10.1.2.0.2 Developer Suite, BI Samples are 10.1.2.0.0)
I'm receiving this error when connecting to the CS_OLAP schema through JDeveloper:
"Warning: No measures were found in the OLAP catalog for user CS_OLAP; therefore, you will not be able to create OLAP queries with this connection."
From the top...
I've installed the sample databases (oe, pm, sh, etc..) from the Companion CD. The SH schema (required for installation of CS_OLAP) is present.
I've executed install.bat from the ...\common_schema directory. It creates the CS_OLAP tablespace and user. There are no errors in the log file. It appears to be building the datafile. When it finishes, Enterprise Manager shows the CS_OLAP tablespace using 87% of its 325MB allocation.
In Enterprise Manager, there are a total of three tables listed for the CS_OLAP schema. They are: AW$AWDEBUG, AW$SHAW, and AW$UTILS. There are no "regular" tables listed, just these three Analytic Workspaces. I open an OLAP Worksheet in AWM, and I can execute AW ATTACH CS_OLAP.SHAW FIRST RO, and see all of the objects in the AW. They are populated with dimension values and data. It's a full blown AW.
I then installed the BI Beans sample applications. Again, no problems during installation.
I opened JDeveloper, drilled on the BIBEANS sample workspace, opened the CATALOG project, and checked the connection settings for the catalogBIDesigner. The TEST of the connection was successful, but I received that warning message. The 'Presentation 1' crosstab returns no data, only the little default table. Basically, the system can't see any data in the CS_OLAP schema.
So, an AW has been created for CS_OLAP, it's populated with dimensions and data, but JDeveloper doesn't see the contents.Nevermind.
The answer is found in the version of the BI Samples zip file.
BI_10_1_2_1_0_samples.zip works just fine.
BI_10_1_2_0_0_samples.zip didn't. -
I am trying to use BIBEANS in JDeveloper when i try to test the connection

Mapping measures to fact tables crashes (in OLAP Catalog)
I've got some problem with an olap catalog I create.
Describing briefly my situation I may say that I have got a few measures (dimensioned with the same dimensions) but they load data from different fact tables. Using the CWM2 packages I try to create a cube in the olap catalog but when it comes to mappings of my second measure it crashes.
- first loop:
map_facttbl_levelkey(measure1, facttable1)
map_facttbl_measure(measure1, facttable1)
It passes OK
- second loop:
map_facttbl_levelkey(measure2, facttable2)
map_facttbl_measure(measure2, facttable2)
map_facttbl_measure throws the following exception:
ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows
Do you know what is wrong? Do I do something that I shouldn't?In case if I am not clear above, this is what we are expecting for QTD. Would the cube do this rollup? if so what should we do to achieve this?

Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.2 or 9.2.0.3
Data Warehouse database configuration
Oracle OLAP option
Symptom(s)
~~~~~~~~~~
OLAP Catalog shows as INVALID when querying dba_registry:
select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
Change(s)
~~~~~~~~~~
Applied RDBMS 9.2.0.2 or 9.2.0.3 patch set
Cause
~~~~~~~
After installing the RDBMS 9.2.0.2/3 patch set, did you run catpatch.sql and utlrp.sql detailed in the readme? INVALID OLAP Catalog is usually a result of not running these Post Install scripts.
Fix
~~~~
Basically, you should do the following:
-- start the Oracle Listener
-- from SQL prompt (as SYSDBA)
SQL> shutdown immediate
SQL> startup migrate
SQL> spool patch.log
SQL> @/$Oracle_Home/rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
SQL> spool off
SQL> shutdown
SQL> startup
SQL> @/$Oracle_Home/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
Symptom(s)
~~~~~~~~~~
OLAP Catalog shows as INVALID when querying dba_registry:
select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
Change(s)
~~~~~~~~~~
Applied RDBMS 9.2.0.2/3 patch set and ran catpatch.sql & utlrp.sql
Cause
~~~~~~~
Appears to happen when there is existing data in the OLAP Catalogs prior to applying the 9.2.0.2 patch set.
Another cause is that the Oracle Listener is not up and running when catpatch.sql was ran.
Fix
~~~~
1. Run the OLAP validate procedure:
a. startup the Oracle Listener
b. connect to SQL*Plus as OLAPSYS and execute:
SQL> execute olapsys.cwm2_olap_installer.Validate_CWM2_Install;
SQL> execute cwm2_olap_metadata_refresh.mr_refresh;
c. verify if OLAP Catalog is VALID.
SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
2. If OLAP Catalog is still INVALID, in OEM compile the INVALID package bodies:
a. Start OEM
b. Connect to the database as OLAPSYS
c. Drill down on Schema -> OLAPSYS -> Source Types
d. Highlight Packages Bodies
e. In the right frame you will see which ones are valid / invalid
f. Right click on any that are invalid and select compile
g. verify that the packages are valid by highlighting Packages and checking the status
h. if any Packages are invalid repeat the same steps to compile. -
How to create OLAP Catalog Metadata from Analytic Workspace
Hi,
How to create OLAP Catalog Metadata objects automatically from Analytic Workspace, not using CWM2_OLAP_AW_OBJECT package.
Is there tool for it?Analytic Workspace Manager is the supported tool from Oracle for creating OLAP catalog metadata (plus the SQL views required for BI Beans). Hopefully this should be out in June as an additional download following the 9.2.0.3x patch.
However you might want to look at IAF Software's "Coaster" product (http://www.iafsoft.com/products/coaster.htm) which also contains functionality to create the OLAP Catalog. We've had a play around with it and have been impressed.

Oracle OLAP Catalog BI checkconfig diagnose warning
Hi,
platform server:

platform client:
- Discoverer 10.2.1 'Drake'
- Windows 2000

We are trying tot connect our Analytical Workspace with the new Discoverer. We want to use the OLAP functionallity of Disco. In production we already use OLAP Web Agent and OLAP_TABLE functions tot connect our AW, but that is whitout the use of the catalog.
After succesfully installing Disco on the server we get in de 'Extensive Diagnose' (same as the bi_checkconfig BI Beans procedure) of Oracle Discoverer this messages:

In Dicoverer we can connect tot the measures in the AW but the query created by Oracle Discoverer fails.A couple of questions:
Did you create any cubes and measure in your database?
Did you install the BIBDEMO demo schema that comes with BI Beans, and did it work? -
I need to migrate my Olap Catalog (i.e. cubes, measures etc) from one server to another. How do I do this, as I have already tried the standard Export, but it doesn't seem to export the cubes etc?
Hi,
Currently there is no way to export the metadata contained in the OLAPSYS account from one environment to another. The Server team are working on an export/import procedure that may be part of the next patchset. The only solution I am afraid is to recreate the metadata using OEM or if you have OWB you can reverse engineer the schema into OWB and generate the OLAP metadata information using the OWB Bridge.
Hope this helps

Upgrading rman 9i catalog to 10g catalog.
Hi,
I need to know the typical steps to upgrade the rman catalog from 9i to oracle oracle 10g. We have already 9i db's registered with 9i catalog and 10g db's are there which we will register with the upgraded 10g catalog.
Kindly provide links and also summarise here the typical steps involved.
Thanks in advance for all the help !!Depends. If you want to do an in-place upgrade, then upgrade the database to at least the highest 10g database that will be connecting. For example, if the highest 10g version you have is 10.2.0.1, then go to at least 10.2.0.1. I have been running 10.2.0.3 without any issues.
After upgrading the database, login to the rman catalog using the same ORACLE_HOME as the database, and run:
upgrade catalog;
That's it. No bells, no whistles. The docs are very clear on this and it's not a huge ordeal.
Or, you can export/import to a new database, and run 'upgrade catalog' on it. -
All...
I am using the Oracle 9.2.0.2 patchset on Sun Solaris
BIBeans 9.0.3
JDeveloper 9.0.3
I am experiencing a problem when creating connections to the OLAP catalog. I can create a new workspace and project but when I add the BI Designer and use the dialogue box to create a new connection, the connection hangs when I test it!! Last viewable message is...
"Connecting to the database and loading the metadata from the OLAP catalog. Please wait..."
2 days ago I created a number of connections and have been creating applications, but at the moment all my connections hang when trying to read the OLAP catalog. I know this because the existing connections work fine. In JDeveloper in the system navigator I can expand the existing connections and look at the schema within, but when a BI Bean e.g. the crosstab attempts to load it hangs. If I look in OEM I can see the correct connection to the database, and the connection is attempting to execute a packge called
GenMetadataProviderInterface.GetMetadatXML
What things can I check?
I have cleaned up and refreshed my OLAP catalog
All the Cubes in OEM are valid.
Now that there is no OLAP Service Instance Manager (with 9.2 this all in the database kernel) is there anyt[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.Thanks for that Keith... however the same error occurs. The process hangs, see the output below...

Olap cubes in 10g for reporting
Hi -
I am trying figure out how to use the olap cube I built in 10g.
1) Can you use materialized views on top of the olap cube in 10g? Sounds like this is a 11g feature?
2) Is query re-write for olap cubes available in 10g?
3) How are you accessing olap cubes in 10g other than using the Oracle reporting tools.
Thanks,
FrankHi Frank,
To answer your questions:
1) This is an 11g only feature
2) This is an 11g only feature
3) The options for accessing OLAP cubes are described here:- http://wiki.oracle.com/page/I+am+Completely+New+to+Oracle+OLAP
I hope this helps

Difference between Data Dictionary and OLAP Catalog
Can someone tell me the difference between the Data Dictionary and the OLAP Catalog. I unterstand that the OLAP Catalog hold the metadata for the AW. But I don't unterstand what do the Data Dictionary? Is this for the relational tabel?
Hi Margini,
Please check the forms u can find the lot of answers
Here is a link
http://www.sapdb.info/abap-data-dictionary/
What is a data dictionary?
Data Dictionary is a central source of data in a data management system. Its main function is to support the creation and management of data definitions. It has details about
· what data is contained?
· What are the attributes of the data?
· What is the relationship existing between the various data elements?

Virtual Catalogs in 10g database
I have heard that you need an 11g catalog to use virtual catalogs. I have also heard that it's possible to run an 11g catalog from a 10g database. Is there a way to create the 11g catalog on a 10g database directly, or do I need to make it in an 11g database then datapump it to the 10g database?
Hej Henrik,
You can mimick it by creating a function based index (FBI), and optionally creating a view on top the table, ensuring that the FBI is used.
Example:
SQL> create table t (x number primary key check (x > 0), y number not null check (y > 0))
Table created.
SQL> create index fbi on t(x/y)
Index created.The index will now have a "virtual column" of x/y.
And if you like, put a view on top:
SQL> create view v
as
select x, y, x/y as virtual_column
from t
View created.
SQL> select * from v
where virtual_column = 3
no rows selected.Hilsen

I would like to set up a way that if my website viewers are interested (volunterily), they can submit me their email addresses or phone numbers for further contact. How do I do this in iweb? thanks
