OLAP Connection failed - SAP BW to SAP BO 4.1
Hi everyone,
i want to connect our SAP BW system via BICS to SAP BO. Unfortunately it doesn t work and i don t know how to fix this.
I created and tested in IDT an OLAP Connection - everything is fine, everything works. Then i published it to the BO server and when i test it there i get the following message:
"Failed to get connections for connection [server.adress] using session locale [English]. Connect to SAP gateway failed Connection parameters: TYPE=A DEST=custom_Session-7:server.adress:user:EN:SAPBW7.0:CREDENTIALS ASHOST=server.adress SYSNR=00 PCS=1 LOCATION CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host with Unicode ERROR partner 'server.adress:3300' not reached TIME Tue Jan 13 RELEASE 720 COMPONENT NI (Network interface) Version 40 RC - 10 MODULE nixxi.cpp LINE 3286 Detail NipConnect2: server.adress:3300 SYSTEM CALL connect ERRNO 10060 ERRNO TEXT WSAETIMEDOUT: Connection timed out COUNTER 8.
Can anyone help here and give me a hint. I don t know where to start looking.
Thanks alot in advance for your help
Cheers
Christopher
Hi Victor,
to your points:
Can you ping the BW server from the BO server?
what do you mean with "ping". i don t know how to do this in BO and i couldn t find this via google
In case of windows on the BO Server: Did you install SAP GUI and can you access BW?
Yes SAP GUI is installed and i can access BW. I created there Multiproviders and queries which i wanted to connect to bo. So from this side everything is fine.
Are you trying with an application server or message server? (For a test try with app server and/or IP Address)
i m trying with app server (with its ip Address)
Thank for your help
Cheers
Christopher

Using OLAP Connection for SAP BW based on authentication type Prompt
We try to use an OLAP Connection based on authentication type Prompt. This should cause a dialog to popup where the user can enter credentials for SAP BW. This works fine for Analysis for OLAP, but not in Web Intelligence and Design Studio.
In design studio the following message appears:
failed to connect to "BA1CLNT100"
Configuration of destination
customized_guid:FnTHdVPWmQ4AMLQAAD4XL4cAAFBWmWVp is incomplete:
Parameter user id missing: neither user nor user alias nor sso ticket nor certificate is specified.
Does anyone know if this feature is supported and what causes this error?Hi,
Can you check the option "Disallow insecure incoming RFC connections" from CMC >> SAP Authentication and see if it helps.

How to build a WEBI query on a SAP NANA OLAP connection?
hi fellows,
we all know that a relational connection can be built to SAP HANA database, and we build data foundation, biz layer to publish it to the repository, so that we can create a WEBI report based on a query to visit the universe.
However, does anybody know how to create a WEBI query on a SAP HANA OLAP connection? Since we don't need to build any data foundation on it.
I created a sap hana olap connection, but failed to find anywhere to publish it? Can anybody help?
thanks,
JenniferHi Jennifer,

SSO to SAP works but no OLAP Connection per SSO Auth
Hi experts,
we have setup an SSO for the Authentication of SAP BW and SAP BO and used the portal integration. We are using SAP BO 4.1 SP4 and SAP BW 7.4.
We use the Login via Netweaver Portal go then to the SAP BO where the reports are stored.
The SSO login works fine, but the OLAP connection to the SAP BW system does not fly. I have tried to create a connection via IDT. This works.
After that I created a WebI report in the Applet and chose BEx Connection and retreived the error:
error.openSapBwBrowsingSessionFailed
Then i tried the WebI Rhich Client and recieved the message: Unknown Error in SL Service and Even do not recieve the list of possible Bex connections.
We are using SNC for the user authentication in SAP BW.
An now it is getting very unnormal:
When i go the IDT tool and create the connection again and republish this to the repository and try to connect again via WebI Applet, i do not get the error message again.
Can you please assist, as our Business user can not publish their OLAP connection.
Regards,
MarkusThe new Business Objects version (BI 4.0) comes with a new authentication
technology to create a trust relationship between a non-SAP user and the SAP
data source. How to determine the correct method to be used?
When using legacy .unv universes (XI 3.1 technology) = SNC
When using .unx environments (BI 4.0 new semantic layer) = STS
when you try to connet BICS connection or IDT it is important to use the STS methodology.
check the below link to have configurations.
Follows a Wiki link with a "How to setup SSO against SAP BW in SBO BI4.0 for LDAP users". and follow the raunak kumar suggestion when you configire SNC and STS.

Universe based on SAP HANA OLAP connection
Can I create universe based on SAP HANA OLAP connection ?
How can i access SAP HANA view which was created using OLAP connection in WEBI and Dashboard? It does not allow creating Universe on top of SAP HANA OLAP connection and give an error.
SAP BusinessObjects query and reporting applications can directly connect to OLAP SAP HANA connections. No universe is required, only a published OLAP SAP HANA connection.
ThanksOLAP connection are only meant for tools that make use of OLAP connectivity only like BEx ..and HANA analytic views and calculated views are also treated as OLAP cubes for them..
So these connection is only available with analysis product like Analysis Office (which is meant to be used with Bex or OLAP cubes ) and Design studio which is again mainly built around OLAP paradigm..
You can not create a universe or Webi on Olap connection on HANA as of now.. However it could be like exposed in a future release of BO which is not public yet... -
Unable to create Business Layer on top of SAP BW OLAP Connection - BI 4.0
Friends,
Need an useful information, why can't we create a business layer on top of SAP BW OLAP connection which is built with BICS driver.
Today when i tried to create a business layer in IDT tool of BI 4.0 it didnt allow me to do so. Is it a s/w bug or am i following a wrong approach. I do know, we can create a .unx universe through relational connection. But i dont want that, please provide your input.
thanks,
TilakHi,
this question has been asked many times before, so a search will reveal your answer.
as the warning told you when you tried the workflow in IDT - business layers aren't supported for Bics connections - i.e. you can't create a UNX ontop of Bex using BICS..
unfrotunately, it was a strategic product decision that seemingly can't be reversed/influenced, despite the inherent problems this causes.
There are lots of requests for this feature to be restored, on the Ideas Place here: https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/community/ideas/businessanalytics/sbosemanticlayer
Please search and Vote for one.

Connection to SAP R/3 dedicated system failed....
Hi friends,
I have to read materials from r/3 for which i will have to define an r/3 system in EP , so taht i can use it in VC and access BAPI's as webservices. However my attempts to connect to an r/3 system are failing.
this is the blog that i used to create a System fot r/3 in EP.
<a href="http://help.sap.com/bp_epv260/EP_EN/documentation/EP/N03_BB_InstallGuide_EN_US.doc#_Ref59851215">http://help.sap.com/bp_epv260/EP_EN/documentation/EP/N03_BB_InstallGuide_EN_US.doc#_Ref59851215</a>
when i test connection in EP it says
Results
<b>Retrieval of default alias successful
Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.</b>
Please let me know what might be the issues.hi venkat
i am working on NW 04s SP 9 . and with it user mapping is done in User Administration and inside user j2ee_admin , there is a tab called user mapping for system access , there i have specifed r/3 user name and pwd , there is some other issue , here is the trace of that issue.

Connect to SAP gateway failed - internal error
Hi, I've developed a simple .NET application that connects to a SAP system and makes a function call using a SAP Connector Proxy object. Everything works fine in my workstation, but deployment doesn't. I'm also deploying the following libraries: SAP.Connector.dll, SAP.Connector.Rfc.dll and librfc32.dll.
The fact is that deployment works fine in some servers, but not in others. I've checked that .NET Framework is installed (both versions, 1.1 and 2.0). I've checked the "WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services" file. What else should I check? Any idea? Every suggestion would be appreciated.
The error message is the following:
Connect to SAP gateway failed Connect_PM GWHOST=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, GWSERV=sapgw00, ASHOST=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, SYSNR=00 LOCATION CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host ERROR internal error TIME Mon Nov 13 16:23:08 2006 RELEASE 640 COMPONENT NI (network interface) VERSION 37 RC -1 COUNTER 1
And the connection string:
CLIENT=100 USER=****** PASSWD=****** LANG=EN ASHOST=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx SYSNR=0
Thanks in advanceHi Daniel,
Can you connect to the particular system by using SAPGUI ?
if yes, then your librfc32 file is working fine.
NCo internally consumes it's functions.
Other points to check are
1> service name as appears from within the r/3 system [transaction : smgw]
2> NCo 2.0 uses .net 1.1 & nCo 2.5 uses .net 2.0, do you have both versions running parallely ?
3> gateway errors are infrastructure issues, please verify your firewall settings for the relevant protocols : http / https & also sap ports 3300 onwards.
the services file you have checked will list the ports that need to be opened on the firewall [in the case of multi - domain applications]
4> check in your 'hosts' file [same directory as your 'services' file]
This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
space.
Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
For example:
102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

However my JCO destinations were working perfectly until recently. I checked on the logon group. I have one called CLUST, which i use for this purpose.
I have also checked both service files and they have the following for the ECC server im connecting to.

From the JCE destinations screen i cannot even ping the server. I can though when i log on to the server through remote desktop.
