objective : to create OLAP universe based on SAP BW infocubes
I am trying to create olap universe connection.
detail spec of BOE setup is :-
1. I have access to SAP GUI through citrix.
2. Business objects xi 3.1 is installed on single server.
3. I am using full client.
4. Universe designer is on client machine.
when I tried to create new connection for SAP BW . I am getting following error : -
"DBD: An error occurred while trying to load the provider for transport sap. Failed to load library mda_sap. System error message: The specified module could not be found."
by serching forum I got an idea that I need to install sap business objects integration kit.
question 1. : do I need to Install SAP business objects integration kit on client or server.
question 2. : which component I need to down load from SAP website

Hey as u told that you will access the sap system through Ctirix. it means you have such a set up .
1. you are a client and you have a connectivity through BO server directly.
2. and as a client only you have access to sap bi system through citrix.
If yes then try it , i have doubt if you able to connect it .
b coz you need to have direct connectivity to sap bi system also.

Experts,
We are going to prototype Xcelsius and Analysis on SAP BI data. For this reason we are going to implement the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Integration Kit. As in we are getting a trial version from SAP. We have built a SAP BI Client 7 with ehancement pack 1 SP6 on a AIX server.
Do you know whether we need addiotional hardware to install the BO software. I presume one needs an application server of some sort? What is best practice in this, machine wise, operating system etc?
Though there is a lot of documentation availbale on the web, I cant find a simple server architecture.
I am useing the following documents as a guide, it says BO 3.0 but also relevant for 3.1 I presume?

Integration with SAP BI - SAP BO XI integration kit or PerformancePoint?

Hi all,
We would like to get some thoughts on SharePoint integration with SAP BI.Could you please help us in solving the following questions:
1. Which one is better? SharePoint integration through PerformancePoint Server 2007 or SAP Business Objects(SAP BO XI integration kit)?
2. What are the starting point(system requirements) to develop a prototype on both the methods?
I was able to find some info on both PPS and SAP Business Objects from the sdn forums and also from sdn documents(those were really helpful,thanks!) but it didnt provide a detailed insight into which one to opt for or how you can goahead.If someone has got more info on this please let us know.

That was really a very helpful peace of information on what I was actually looking for!
So as per my understanding PerformancePoint Server cannot report directly from SAP ERP(you mean SAP BI specifically right? ).So is there any third party software that we need to use for PPS integration with SharePoint?Are we still trying to connect to SAP BO or directly to SAP BI.
Also can you provide some info on what kinds of reports can we publish using PPS.
Please correct me if wrong.
We are trying to build a prototype on both type of integration.Our front end is SharePoint and our ultimate goal is to provide the SAP BI reports through SharePoint Portal.

Unable to use SSO with universe connection on top of SAP BW query

Hi,
We're creating a universe on top of a SAP BW query by using universe designer.
We logon to universe designer by using SAP credential.
When creating the connection, we set the option "Use Single Sign On when refreshing reports at view time" in order to logon to BW server. But when clicking next, an error arises:
"DBD: Unable to connect to SAP BW server Incomplete logon data"
The strange thing on this is that there is one laptop which is able to set up this kind of connection, while all other workstations are not able to set it because they recieve that error (we all work against the same BO server). So this looks like an installation issue.
We reinstalled SAP Integration Solutions on those workstations, but problem is still the same.
I found thread: Universe Connection Authentication on SAP BW which talks about the same issue, but solution involves uninstalling Xcelsius. But we do need Xcelsius!
Any suggestions?

Unable to create a crystal report 2013 on the top of SAP BW 7.00

Hello Team,
We are trying to connect SAP Crystal Reports 2013 to SAP BW 7.00 SP26. This crystal report is being developed on the top of a BEx query accessing through OLAP.
1. We are getting an error- 'Internal Error: The reports applicatiton server failed'.
2. Also, when we try to upload the same report from CMC, we get an error."...................Failed to read data from the report. Reason: Unable to open the OLAP Cube......."

Webi Reports Hyperlinks on top of OLAP Universe

BW-OLAP universe.
I checked below Link for the solution, but couldn't
get answer, as these are based on relational universes.

I have a OLAP universe. On top of it, there are two reports
One parent report and one child report.
Question: I have a column called Auction Id on parent report.
Now, when I click on any of the Auction Id values, child report
should only bring data for that Auction Id alone and not other Auction Ids.
In the child report, I have Auction Id as query filter.
Now while in Webi's Interactive Mode, I chose the option
Select Column--> Create Hyperlink --> Link to a document -->
Document prompts: Prompt User in runtime.
This option works fine.
However, when I change the Document Prompt to:
Select Object (or) Build Formula
report throws MDX error, during run-time,
Please suggest.

BW OLAP Universe connection error after applying BOE XI3.1 SP2

Hi,
We installed BOE XI 3.1 SP2 today on the server, and since then we are not able to execute the WebI reports built on top of BW OLAP universe. The error message is - An error occurred while trying to load the provider for transport sap. Failed to load library mda_sap. System error message.
The same error message appears when I test the universe connection.
Has anyone come across this issue? Your help is really apprecaited.
Our system config is Windows 2003 server, 64 bit, SP2.

Hi Ingo,
Yes, applying SP2 solved the problem. We reaslized that SAP GUI 710 is prerequiste to run the SP2 setup file.

Dynamic Conditions in OLAP universe

Hi all,
we want to use conditions that are derived from the current date to provide easy filters to our users. Like "Current Month" derived from the current date w/o users having to enter any value. In the old 5.1 Business Objects version this was working properly.
We use Webintelligence BO XI 3.1 with Fixpack 3.3 on top of SAP BW (BexQuery) which means we are dealing with an OLAP universe.
The Condition we want to use as an example is:

(CurrentDate)"></CONSTANT></CONDITION></FILTER>
It parses correctly, yet when applied as a filter in a web intelligence report it does not return a result.
The ultimate goal would be not the "Current Month" but a date range "Previous YTD".
I have found many threads dealing with similar questions, but non seemed to fit - we want to avoid that users have to enter a date, and we want to avoid increasing the number of measures. (And we want to avoid the worst case to have to do it at the BexQuery level due to performance aspects)
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Updating OLAP Universe Automatically

hi,
We have created Universes on the top of BEx queries. What happens in BEx query is that some of the column headers are getting updated every week. Beause of this everytime we have open the Universe refresh and export it back. This recurrent activity is very cumbersome. We are using BOXI 3.1.
So can we automatically refresh an OLAP Universe?

Cascading LOV in OLAP UNIVERSE

Hi.
I got a problem with a lov in webi.
I have created an OLAP Universe buitl on a SAP BW 7.0 infocube and I created a hierarchy and a cascading list of value but when I go to my WEBI report it doesn`t works, it isn`t filtering the objects by the hierarchy, it duplicates the same information for all the object's concepts.
For example i got a LEVEL 1 concept u201CBuenaventurau201D and it shows in LEVEL 2 u201CEGRESOSu201D and u201CINGRESOSu201D the problem is that it show the same for all the LEVEL 1 concepts and it should only show "EGRESOS" and "INGRESOS" for LEVEL 1 concept "Buenaventura" because is the only one that has information.
Can anybody pls tell me why is having this behavior.

Tengo un problema con una lista de valores en cascada en un universo olap que lee un infocubo de BW 7.0. Cree una jerarquía en el universo y una lista de valores en cascada, pero cuando voy al reporte WEBI y hago un prompt a la lista de valores no me filtra por concepto, repite la misma información para todos los conceptos.
Por ejemplo tengo en el NIVEL 1 el concepto "Buenaventura" y me muestra en NIVEL 2para este concepto "EGRESOS" e "INGRESOS", el problema es que me muestra lo mismo para todos los conceptos del NIVEL 1 cuando sólo deberian aparecer para "Buenaventura".
Alguien me podría explicar por favor por qué se comporta así.

As of now the cascading list of values are not supported in the universe created on top of SAP BW (Bex Queries).

Businessobjects Integration kit for SAP

Hi all,
I am integrating BI with Xcelsius tool. For that I want Businessobjects Integration kit for SAP in my client machine. I have reffered the following installation guide.

After selecting the option Yes, automatically deploy the web application(Step 20), i get one screen for Configuring web application Server. It is asking Sever instance and Service Name.
What is Server Instance and Service Name? Can you tell any example for Sever instance and Service Name ?
Help me in this regard.

Hi Hemalatha,
You wouldn't necessarily need the Web application to be installed on the client machine, and unless you want the user to access your Business Objects environment using SAP security, you wouldn't necessarily need the Web Application that comes with the SAP Integration Kit.
I agree that the documentation is not great in explaining what you would need if you want to do what you describe.
Are you looking to have connected Xcelsius models which use QAaWS over a Universe which is built over SAP BI content (Cube/Query)
If so, you may find that you only need the data connectivity components of the SAP integration kit.
Can you further explain what you are trying to do....I may be able to add more assistance.

Integration Kit for SAP - Edge or XI?

Hi guys, I'm a little confused, I know that BOBJ Edge Server components is a XI, capped and intended for smaller installations. The question is, I don't see in the installation components any "Integration Kit for SAP Solutions" specific for EDGE, however I do see "SBOP EDGE BI, VERSION WITH DATA INTEGRATION (FOR SAP ERP)" that includes the Int Kit.
The question is, what happened if I installed Edge before without the Int Kit for SAP, do I have to uninstall and re-istall? or I can use the Int Kit for SAP for XI?

mmmm, actually I had installed by mistake the Integration Kit for SAP for XI, it did let me install, after the fact I realized that I should had used the one that comes with Edge with Data Integration for ERP.
I did uninstall and re-installed the correct one, however, I also noticed that the SP2 for the Integration Kit says on the title "BOBJ XI 3.1 Integration Kit for SAP Solutions" and not BOBJ Edge. So makes me wonder if there is a real difference.

SAP BW OLAP Universe performance issue

Based on BO recommendation, I created a universe on top of a big BEX query which included all characteristics and key figures from a cube. I then created a webi report with 5 characteristics and 1 key figure from this universe. I also create the same report in BEX query designer(same number of objects). I ran both. The Bex query completed under a minute and the webi report took more than 12 minutes to run. I did a bunch of other test with different number of objects combination and saw similar differential in query performance.
I did a trace using 'sm50' and saw the open SQL submitted to BW from BEx was very different from what got submitted from the webi report. Here is what I saw in pseudo code.
Bex:
select dimension1.blah, dimension2.blah, dimension3.blah, dimension..... sum(measure)
from dimension1, dimension2, dimension3, dimension..... factTable
where dimension1.SID = factTable.d1SID
and dimension2.SID = factTable.d2SID
and ......
and (query filters)
OLAP Universe
select dimension1,blah, dimension1.SID
from dimension1, factTable
where dimension1.SID = factTable.d1SID
select dimension2,blah, dimension2.SID
from dimension2, factTable
where dimension2.SID = factTable.d2SID
select dimension3,blah, dimension3.SID
from dimension3, factTable
where dimension3.SID = factTable.d3SID
It seems the OLAP universe was querying the BW cube one dimension at a time and then somehow piece the result sets together to form the final result set. Dimension tables join to the fact table without any filter definitely causes performance issue. Beside, I have no idea why the query requests are submitted to the BW system like that.
I looked in varies forums and found no similar issues posted by others. Has anyone had any performance problem with there OLAP universe? Is this a matter of configurations?

SAP BW 3.5
BOXI 3.0

Hi,
You cannot compare a BEx query and a universe query by just comparing the trace.
BEx query makes ABAP calls and universe query makes MDX calls;
Moreover there is only one MDX call sent to SAP, what you have noticed is that there is one MDX call to retrieve member for a given characteristic whereas a prompt has been set on.
Last, Web Intelligence consume only flattened data (row sets) wheras BEx consume data sets.
That means that there is a flattening operation between SAP OLAP engine and the data sent to the Web Intelligence document.
A fix have been developed for a customer to improve performance on Web Intelligence queries, this fix will be available for all customers in SP2 planned in June 09.
Here is a a brief summary of what the fix provide:
- Provide data directly from SAP server to Web Intelligence document. Avoid unnecessary conversion steps: row set --> data set --> row set
- Eliminate redundant sort operations
- Other optimization operations
