Old 3GS for New iPhone 4

What's the cheapest way to get a new iPhone 4 if I have a 3GS? Suggestions?
How is AT&T subsidizing if you have a 3GS? Thanks.

You need to check your upgrade eligibility status for your AT&T line number which can be done via AT&T's website, or you can call AT&T customer service or stop by an AT&T corporate store.

  • Exchange recently purchased 3gs for new iphone?

We just bought the iphone 3gs 2 weeks ago. Do you know if we can exchange them for the new iphone at no additional cost?

Yeah I'm workin on my 3rd 3GS and I've been with AT&T for 4 years, paid two hundred for every one of them even with the apple care protection plan! I've had this 3GS for less than 30 days and I bet if I want the new one it'll cost another $200 + $18 for early upgrade!! I think if u've had the phone less than 60 days they should replase it with the newer model no questions!

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I just buy a new iphone 4S, i wanna sync my data from 3GS to new iphone but i forget the password for the 3GS

i just buy a new iphone 4S, i wanna sync my data from 3GS to new iphone but i forget the password for the 3GS

Connect your 3GS in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • Error message when I try to restore and update my old 3gs for my daughter

I am getting a message that says "sorry" we cannot continue with your activation at this time. Whats that mean......?, I dont have any # codes or anything. Im trying to set up an old 3gs for my daughter, and for now (until I get the sim card from at&t) I wanted to allow her some time on the device using our wi-fi connection . Ive never seen this message before

If you don't have a sim card in the phone, you won't be able to activate it. You can't activate any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim itself need not be activated, but it must be valid & present.

  • I just swapped old modem for new model. Says I'm connected but airport flashing amber and no connection. Do I have to configure a new network???

I just swapped out old modem for new model. Airport flashing amber. Wi-Fi connection good but airport not responding. Do I need to configure a new network connection? Change anything in airport utility?

    Welcome to the forum!
I'm a big fan of resetting in situations like this. Who knows what boxes you've ticked where...
Use the hard reset button with a paper clip on your Airport express. Hold it til the light starts blinking, then let it reset.
While it's resetting, go into your Network prefs and make sure you're set up to connect via Airport. Delete any references to your prior wireless network in the preferred networks section. Go into your keychain utility and delete any passwords there. (this is assuming you were using some form of wireless security).
After your AE has restarted, choose it from the Airport pull-down menu and run the Airport Setup Assistant utility. Once you've got it up and running, use Airport Admin utility to set security and passwords.
Seems drastic, but after all the poking around you've done, these steps should be pretty simple to perform. I'm guessing your original "Looking for PPPoE host" was a temporary problem with your IP. Maybe the ethernet cable was unplugged from AE?
    Good luck

  • When was the 1.13 firmware released for new iPhones?

Hi, I just want to know when the 1.13 firmware was released for new iPhones from apple.com?
My family have order 2 new iPhones recently (separate orders) and I want to know if it will be on the latest firmware or if I’ll need to update it for them?
    Thanks.
    Smiths.

1.1.3 was released yesterday. When you setup and sync your phone if the software is not up to date, you will be able to do it at that time.

  • Trade old iphone for new iphone

i have the iphone right now. but the old one. can i trade my old one for the new iphone?

On trade in of those of us who have the old iphone - the responses to previous questions about this have been difficult for me to navigate to find the definitive answer. Is it officially May 27, 2008? That if you purchased your iphone BEFORE that date, you ARE NOT eligible to trade in your old iphone.
If so, this is the last time I am buying a new innovative product from Apple when it first comes out. It seems just too soon to be offering such a significant upgrade on a product which I have only had for 7 months! Usually it is 2 years before a cell phone is upgraded.

  • Can't get old music on new iphone for 40 days??

I got a new iphone today after having an ipod for a while. ive gotten alot of music so i went to the music app to download it (on the new iphone) it all shows up and has the little cloud download icon so i download it and it instantly pops up with this; "This device is already associated with an apple id. You can download past purchases on this device with just one Apple id every 90 dyas. this device can be used with another apple id in 42 days." Any ways to fix this or get my music back? I recently traded phones with a good friend so this probably has something to do with it.

Did you not log out of the friend's Apple ID? Did you restore the phone and activate it with your Apple ID? You can restore the device as new, then restore it from a backup of your iPod if you want, or just sync your own content to it and it should work.

  • My springboard crashed moving from old 3Gs to new (but used) 4.  Now what??

I recently got a new phone from my new work- the iphone 4. It was previously owned by a co-worker and still had all his info on the phone. I activated it with at&t but didn't have my old phone for them to do a data transfer/backup. They gave instructions and it seemed really straight forward.
I followed their steps to backup and then data transfer all my songs, apps, calendar, etc. All seemed fine until the new 4 turned said "Springboard" had crashed. It entered safety mode too. My contacts transfered but not my apps. Everything of the new old owners is still on there.
I wanted to try again but it won't respond to iTunes - I think because it is in safety mode. I had my 3Gs for almost 3 years but I'm completely unfamiliar with "Springboard" and safety mode.
What do I do now?? I would like to avoid going to the at&t store as the wait it forever.
Also, I don't have iCloud yet- I don't know if this makes a difference backing things up but I really don't have money to get Lion yet.

He had moved the iTunes Music folder to an external drive
    Bummer.
Copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder to the external.
Plug it in to the new computer.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* then select the *iTunes library* file in the iTunes folder on the external.

  • Help transferring everything from old 3gs to new 4s

My girlfriend has just got a new 4s to replace her old 3gs.  Unfortunately, the (windows) desktop we used to sync the 3gs has recently pretty much died.  Is there any way to get all the data from the old phone to the new one easily?  I've got a macbook I can use to sync the new phone, but not sure I can get everything off the old phone this way...
If I lose the music that's not too much of a problem, but don't want to lose contacts, texts, apps, saves, settings etc.
    Thanks

You've got your work cut out for you, but here's what you need to do. First create a separate login on your computer for your GF. Then do the following...DO NOT UPDATE the software on the 3GS or connect the 4S until you've first done the following:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your GF's computer, her phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to her phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from her phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on her phone will be in her itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore her itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
Now that you've done the above, you can connect the 4S & follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109
You should be good to go.

  • Back up from iTunes for new iPhone

    Morning guys and girls,
My iphone 3GS has packed up after 2 years, no problem. My carriers have given me a cheap Samsung until the new Iphone comes out in the next few weeks.
The night before it stopped working completely I did a back up.
So, when I sync the new iphone 5 to it in the weeks ahead I have the following questions.
Will the new iphone automatically load all my apps onto it?
Will the new iphone automatically load all my text messages onto it?
and finally Will the new iphone automatically load my contacts but most importantly contacts that were on my iphone only?
    londonman2

    One final question...
Will I be able to deauthorise by old iPhone 3 GS now that it is unusable?
Obviously I'm aware there's a limit of 5 computers (laptop, imac, ipod etc) for individual iTunes purchased etc...

  • Trading iPhone 3GS for an iPhone 4S! Please help!!!

Ok, so I have an iPhone 3GS. I really want to trade it for an iPhone 4S. Can I do this? How much extra would it cost? There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with my iPhone 3GS. It's only like 2 months old. I bought my iPhone 3GS from Amazon but I have the original case and everything. Could I just go to an Apple Store in QLD, Australia and pay the money and trade? Help me please!

Apple does not provide a trade-in program.
You can sell your existing device and use the proceeds towards purchase of a new device.
Also, Amazon is not now and has never been an authorized reseller.  It's highly unlikely your 3GS is only "2 months old".  Most likely it was purchased used coming from Amazon.
