Yosemite, and other recent operating systems do not support the older AirPorts.
Listed in order of preference with the third option not recommended for most users, and the fourth option not recommended at all.
1) Use...or borrow for a few minutes....a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.
2) Replace the 8+ year old AirPort Express with a new version
3) Use Boot Camp on your Mac to install Windows, then download and install AirPort Utility for Windows.
4) Download unsupported software from the Internet from an unknown source, which requires that you change default security settings on your Mac.

  • Airport express - how to use with Comcast

I have Airport Express - and a ethernet cable. But I use Comcast and the box does not have a spare ethernet connection. Now what?

    have a spare
There should definitely be one Ethernet port on the back of the Comcast modem. You need to connect the cable from the modem to your AirPort Express.

  • How do I re-configure an old airport express to be used to stream music wirelessly to my receiver?

I am trying to reconfigure an old airport express to stream music to my stereo.  I plugged it in and reset it using the button on the AE.  Upon restart I renamed it and created a new wi-fi network.  It connected to my existing wireless signal and had the green light on the AE illuminated.  After turning selecting a song to play off my iPhone 5S there wasn't any option the select the network I created.  Any ideas?

I plugged it in and reset it using the button on the AE.
Plugged into "what"?  I take it that you mean that you plugged the AirPort Express into the Ethernet port on your router using an Ethernet cable, since that would be the only way that it could create a new network
I renamed it and created a new wi-fi network
You are telling us here that you created another different wireless network than your existing network, so you have two wireless networks now.
It connected to my existing wireless signal
The AirPort Express cannot do this if it is creating another network, as you say it is. Or, when you say "it", maybe you are referring to another device?  In that case, please clarify on what "it" might be.
After turning selecting a song to play off my iPhone 5S there wasn't any option the select the network I created
You must first connect the iPhone to the new wireless network that you created, and enter the password to connect......before....you can go into iTunes and select a song to play.
Unless you really do need two wireless networks, it would make more sense to configure the AirPort Express to "join" your existing wireless network. Then, everything is on the same network.  Did you consider that option?

  • My 5 year old Airport Expresses don't work with the new Airport Time Capsule?

My question is after wasting hours trying to install my new Airport Time Capsule, Ive noticed that the "Airport Utility" doesn't recognize any of my 4 five year old Airport Expresses. An error message says " This version of Airport Utility doens not support this (these) base stations"? Does that mean that their is no work arounds which means I have to purchase 4 replacements?

You need the older airport utility.. that can be installed on Lion or Mountain Lion.. it cannot be installed on Mavericks.. do you have an older computer even a windows one.. or can access, borrow or bribe a friend over for drinks with laptop.. then you can configure your expresses.. !!
There is a rather complex workaround on Mavericks.. when I posted it in the past.. Apple deleted it.. go figure.
    Kappy's post is still there.

  • AirPort Express Base Station - Use with HP Laser Jet & Time Warner

Have this brand new AirPort Express Base Station that I want to install in place of the Linksys router that is connected to the Time Warner cable base station delivering internet connection so I can connect HP Laser Jet 6/6mp printer via USB on the AirPort Express. Any recommendations or suggestions ?

    Thanks
    The question is this
If I use the Airport Express Base Station as wireless router for internet service coming in from Time Warner AND plug the HP LaserJet printer USB plug into the AirportExpressBaseStation will I be able to overcome the communication problem I am having when I plug in the HPLP's USB plug directly into the MacBookPro and cannot get use of the printer due to language ( Apple Talk vs Post Script ) problems ? Probably not make any difference since the USB female on the AEBS is just a conductor !
While I have you ! How do Mac people delete backwards like PC people do when they press the delete key and letters delete from left to right ?

  • How Many AirPort Expresses can you use with BaseStatio to Exended Coverage?

I have the airport Extreme N Base station and have one airport N Express hooked up to get better coverage...
can I hook up more than 1 express to make a bigger coverage area on my property?
    Thanks

can I hook up more than 1 express to make a bigger coverage area on my property?
Yes, but you cannot connect the additional 802.11n base stations in series to extend the range as the 802.11n "extend" feature does not support relays like in a 802.11g WDS.

  • Older Airport Express How to use as wireless to Wired.

I am running a Belking Wireless as my main. I can set up the AE to Join exsisting network but I dont have the option to allow ethernet clients. I want to hook my DVR wired to my AE to allow it internet access. Is there any way. Has V6.3 firmware.

If I buy the newer AX will it be possible?
If the Belkin supports ProxySTA then you could configure this newer AX to be a wireless client and use it's Ethernet port.
Otherwise you could connect one AX to the Belkin via Ethernet and configure it to act as a WDS main base station and the other AX to act as a WDS remote base station.

  • HT1515 How do i get my old AirPort Express (7years old) to work with my new Time Capsule?

How do i get my old AirPort Express (7years old) to work with my new Time Capsule?

Does anyone at Apple have help for this sort of question - I too have an old printer (HP LaserJet 5MP) that I would like to keep using on my Mac. (Mac OSX 10.6.8).
I got it working by getting a USB cord that connects to it - but every once in a while it just stops working for weeks. The mac 'sees' it and it sends the data because the printer lights start blinking but then it just doesn't do anything. Is there no one who can tell me (and raterada) how to get some new life into these old printers. I would rather not add this (and a new toner cart) to the landfill just yet. . .

  • How can I use my old AirPort Express?

How can I use my old AirPort Express (the one that plugs right into the wall without a power cable) to stream music to a stereo when I am using the new Airport Express?  The AirPort Utility 6.1 will not recognize the old AirPort Express.

Apple does not make it easy for you to use an older device when they want you to buy newer devices.
See this link for tips on how to install a version of AirPort Utility on Mountain Lion that will allow you to configure your older Express:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
This is not supported by Apple, so it is your decision on whether you want to move forward with this. It works fine for me, but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you, nor offer support if you have difficulty.

  • Using old Airport Express with new Airport Extreme to stream music

I recently purchased the newest Airport Extreme to replace my older Airport Express. I'm running OS 10.8.5. I like the speed of the new WIFI signal for streaming to Apple TV. No long waits or buffering interruptions while watching movies. I still want to use the old Airport Express to stream music from my iPhone to a stereo in another part of the house. I plugged in the Express module and it just flashes amber. Doesn't show up in Airport Utility either.

I suggest that you first perform a "factory default" reset on your old AirPort Express, and then, check out the following Apple Support article for configuring it for streaming.

  • How can i change my old airport express password with mavericks

I just bought a new TV and I am trying to connect to my wi-fi, which runs via an old Airport Express. The TV manufacturer says that I should try changing my password from a WEP to WPA - but it seems that I can't even access my Airport Express because it's not supported by Mavericks. Is there a work-around, or do I need to upgrade my Airport Express? It's running fine otherwise - supports multiple laptops and iPhone.

  • Can I share my internet with my Ipad and simultaneously connect to a airport express that I use to remotely connect speakers?

Can I share my internet from my Imac with my Ipad and simultaneously connect to a airport express that I use to remotely to connect speakers?
The big problem that I'm having is that when internet sharing via the airport I can not simultaneously connect with my airport express.  It would be great to be able to share internet from my Imac so I can be using my Ipad and at the sametime have my wife use the airport express to stream music in a different room. It would be awesome to be able to have the ability to do both. Does anybody know how?

Unless your iMac was made before 2006 (this forum is for old iMacs), you might get better assistance by posting in one of the following forum areas:

  • I have an old Airport Express. How do I get Airport Utility to recognise it?

I have an OLd style Airport Express that I was using with my 2007 iMac and Tiger. Recent upgrade to Mountain Lion.
How do I get the Airport Utility to recognise it so I can set extra stuff?
    AndrewH66

Here are the AirPort Utility downloads:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Bottom line: I don't believe it's possible to use your old AirPort Express with Mountain Lion.  The current AirPort Utility is 6.3.1.
I'm assuming you have this one (from around 2004):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP76
If instead you have this one (from arount 2008):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP1
... then AirPort Utility may well support your device.
