Old Apple 20" monitor, new MacMini 2010, connectable?

I have an older 20" Apple Cinema Display. The clear plastic one with the ADC cable. I bought the Apple DVI to ADC adapter brick so I could use it on my older MacMini. The new MacMini comes with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter in the box. Will this adapter work properly with my older monitor, as the monitor works great, or would it work better with a Mini Displayport-to-DVI adapter purchased separately?

You may have to be the guinea pig and tell us if it works. There always has to be someone who is the first to give something a try. Sometimes, based on how complicated the conversions are and whether the Mac can detect the display, two adapters/converters in tandem do not work.

Quad with 2 old Apple Studio monitors 17'' ADC?

Hello,
I'm almost ready to buy a PowerMac Quad, but I've one problem to solve:
I already have 2 old Apple Studio Display 17'' with ADC connection.
The default video card in the Quad has 2 DVI ports, so I should use 2 Apple DVI to ADC adapters to run my old monitors (I already have one and I can say these adapters are huge, big and reqire power supply).
Is it possible to run the above configuration (2 adapters) without problems or damages?

Hi, the problem is a combination of Boot Camp 2.1 and the ADC->DVI box. I've described a solution here:

Basically:
[1] Plug everything in normally
[2] Boot into Mac OS X
[3] Set brightness to what you want (eg. in System Prefs, or via keyboard)
[4] Unplug the USB cable belonging to the ADC->DVI adaptor (this means anything plugged into the monitor now won't work, so you may need to also move peripherals from the monitor to the mac, or to a USB hub)
[5] Boot into Windows (XP SP2 or SP3 in my case)
[6] cue "I can see clearly now the rain has gone"
The disadvantages to this are:
[1] You're a USB socket down on the deal (the display gave you 2 but took up 1, now you only have the 1 that it was being plugged into)
[2] To readjust brightness (if you find yourself doing this regularly... I don't) you need to go Mac OS X-> plug cable back in -> adjust brightness -> remove cable -> reboot into XP.
For me (2007 Mac Pro, 23" stripey Apple Cinema Display with ADC->DVI adaptor) it was happening under an ATI 1900XT and also under an Nvidia 8800GT, each time I'd tried reformatting the Windows partition, reinstalling Windows XP etc. Whenever it was Boot Camp 2.0.x it was fine, but adding Boot Camp 2.1 to the party wrecked the brightness. XP SP3 made no difference whatsoever.
Of note, if you'd rather not sacrifice the USB port (it didn't bother me, as 2.1 also made my 802.11n network finally usable under XP, which was more important to me than losing a USB socket), the original poster in the above linked article suggested reinstalling the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers (from the Leopard disc) as an alternative fix (seemingly they'll overwrite anything Boot Camp 2.1 installed, thus "rewinding"). As I say, for me I needed the wireless network so didn't want to go back, but it might work for you as a 2nd route.
I've filed a bug on this, so let's hope the Boot Camp team knock out a fix soon,

Sign out in System Preferences>iCloud. This will remove any synced data such as Calendars, emails and Contacts from your Mac, but will have no effect on the data on the server - so that other devices logged into it will continue to see the data.

Anything you purchased with the older AppleID is forever tied to that specific AppleID. Just log out of the iTunes or App store with the new AppleID and log in with the older one. You can still keep the new AppleID for iCloud and iMessage if those are already set up - just use the old one for your purchased content.

From what it sounds like you are wanting to sign out of iCloud with the "old" ID and sign in with the new. The following Knowledge Base article should help you with that issue:

Specifically:
To change a secondary account to a primary account
iOS 5 or later:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Delete the secondary account.
Tap the Back button.
Tap iCloud.
Delete the primary account.
Add the secondary account that you want to be your primary account.

If the old Apple ID password does not work, you will need to contact the Apple ID Security site from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 or try going to http://iforgot.apple.com and see if you can get it changed through that portal.

Need help linking old Apple ID to new iCloud account.

I recently closed my iCloud account, which was the same email address for my Apple ID for personal reasons. I was forced to use a new email to open a new iCloud account. Now I cannot link the two because when I try to add my original Apple ID email address to my new iCloud account, it says my old email is already linked to another account.
How can I back things up to iCloud when the system will not let me link my original Apple ID with a new iCloud account?

When you sign in with a new Apple ID you create a new iCloud account, so if you are signed into a new account, your backups and other synced data will be in the new account, not the old one. Also, iCloud email accounts cannot be moved to another account. You can either start using your new iCloud email account, give your contacts your new address and forward email sent to the old address to the new one, or you can add back your old iCloud account as a secondary account on your device by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with your old ID. You can then turn on Mail in the secondary account and access your old email account on your device again. The only limitation of this is that email in secondary accounts is fetch, not push email. Push email is only supported in your primary iCloud account.

I had an iCloud old ID in my phone that I didn't know my password to.
can't change or remember password
logged out of old ID via settings blaa blaa ( see other posts to do this )
Created new ID
Logged out of this new one too
went to store and downloaded new free app with new apple ID
It worked
but my old apps will not with new ID
can remove old apps by holding down on the app until they wobble and press the X on it to delete
Have to now reinstall apps I want with new ID
Old apps still want the old apple ID....nooooooo!
New apps will work with new ID
I need my some of my old app because they have data and picture etc in them so I don't want to lose them.
I enter any password 3 times for a reset
it emails a reset to geeeee knows where???? so no good to me.
Now this is weird
I go to upgrade my old apps again....
I enter any 3 dud passwords and go to 'answer questions'
Enter my birth date and other question
it only **** worked and let me enter a new password
Old apps now updating with old email account
I now have two email accounts (with the same password)
1 for new apps
1 for old apps I need to keep until I can figure out how to find where the old email retrieval email is sent (no hope).
All this after an hour of upgrade to latest OS and other hour with all of the above!

TThere may be apps that are trying to update. Apps are locked to the Apple ID used to purchase them. They cannot be transferred.

It won't affect your info on your devices. It will remove her photo stream photos but not her camera roll photos, yes you need to delete the account.

Cannot play music purchased under old apple id after new hard drive installed

Replaced crashed HD and used Time Machine to restore to 10.7.5. Had changed my Apple ID a while backe (couple months). Now music purchased with old ID will not play, asking me to authorize under old ID, have no idea what the password was and the email address is no longer valid, so...how do I rgain access to those albums purchased under old ID? It plays on my iphone fine.

You may still be able to reset the password to your old Apple ID via iforgot.apple.com.
The old tracks will continue to play on the iPhone as long as they are on it but you may find they get deleted if you try to sync with your library while it isn't authorized for your old ID.

Hello, I am wondering if there is an adaptor I can use to hook up my old Cinema Display to a vhs/dvd or roku player. Any help would be appriecated.

Unlike similar sized monitors from Dell, the Apple 30 inch cinema display only has DVI input. You can in theory plug it into a DVD player which has DVI output (or HDMI via a converter) and it will display the lower resolution, but it's not going to be much better than just playing the DVD off your Mac
